Knicks vs. Pacers is ‘nostalgic’, Can New York control the series at home? | NBA | BREAKFAST BALL

All right make you
feel nostalgic? Yeah it’s one of the craziest
folk tales that’s ever been told in the history of sports that
people have convinced themselves somehow, someway, that Reggie
Miller owns the New York Knicks. Now, this will be the fifth
time that they face off Pacers and Knicks in the
Eastern Conference Finals over the last 30 years. So there is a
history to them going head to head in the playoffs. We all know about the 8 points
and 9 seconds, whatever it was. But Reggie Miller against
the Knicks is 26 and 41. So this notion that he owns the
Knicks or he’s a Knick killer is it’s like we invented
a story and no one ever said, hey, BS on the story. So it just lives
on and on and on. We don’t care about
Reggie Miller. Reggie Miller has a losing
record against the New York Knicks for his entire career. So shut up with the
old Reggie Miller. You nonsense. When it comes to
the New York Knicks. The dude had one good game
at Madison Square Garden, and people talk about it
like he owns the Knicks. It’s embarrassing. No one talks about the game
7 loss in Indiana for the Nix to go to the NBA Finals,
when Patrick Ewing dropped 30 and 25 against them. There’s your losing
record in the playoffs, too, for for Reggie
Miller at the Garden. Here’s the only thing
I’ll push back on you. Because, listen, I happen
to think Reggie Miller has an argument for being
the most overrated player in basketball history. Guy averaged 18 and
3 for for his career. Had great moments
against the Knicks. The 8 points and
9 seconds video. It’s great is awesome. Yeah, it was a great
moment for him. The trash talk with
Spike Lee was fun. This does give me some
90s nostalgia here. I will admit that I
don’t know that I buy that Knicks fans don’t care. Reggie Miller is going to be
on the call for these games and we hate that. Yeah, I’m with you
courtside at the Garden. You don’t think that guy is
getting heckled and booed as he walks through the
Garden at all times, like, I don’t buy that You
don’t care about Reggie. Let me rephrase that. We hate his guts. Thank you. We will heckle him. We will make his life miserable. You guys feel about
the fact, since 93, you guys have
played eight times. This would be the ninth
series that you’ve had Yeah And they have a advantage
over the Knicks. That means absolutely
nothing to me. I’m sorry. It doesn’t. I don’t care about that at all. The New York Knicks this time
around are the better team. The New York Knicks have no
reason not to beat the Indiana Pacers in this series. And I’m not going back to
John Starks or Charles Oakley or the late Anthony Mason. They should throwback
jerseys though. They should wear the jerseys
from that era for one game. I think it’d be
great if they did. Yeah, but this
notion, Yes, we hate Reggie Miller
because Reggie Miller can be a douche face sometimes. Also and I love that about him. He plays it up,
and he embraces it and there’s not enough of that. So I love like the dude
was in Central Park yesterday looking for heat. And he got it. You suck. Miller your sister’s
a better ballplayer. All that kind of stuff. But again, I just want to
be very clear about this. The notion that people
think that Reggie Miller owns or owned
the New York Knicks is just factually incorrect. All right.
All right. You’re right. Let’s he shouldn’t be doing
the broadcast, either. All right. Let’s move to the game tonight. It all goes down
tonight at the Garden. The Eastern Conference
finals are back in New York as the rivalry is renewed. Knicks Pacers karl-anthony
Towns spoke on the history between the two teams. Look, if you remember
game 7 last year, I don’t think this has anything
to do with Reggie Miller or Dale Davis or
any of the old guys that played for either team. But you do remember
game 7 last year, and here’s why the New
York Knicks obviously lost half their roster to injury. OG Anunoby was out. Brunson had the broken hand
and the ankle stuff going on. Josh Hart had the
abdomen problem. Could barely walk let alone run. And after the Pacers
blew them out in game 7, dudes on the Pacers walked
outside of Madison Square Garden, where there
was a lot of people out there hoping the
Knicks were going to win and heckled Knick fans. And that’s what we remember,
and they are going to feel it. And hear it starting tonight. I say it all the time and
I do genuinely mean it. Less hate in the world. More hate in sports I’m
your Huckleberry on that. I love this stuff. Like, I don’t think either of
these teams is winning a title, but clearly they can. This is the Eastern
Conference Finals. It’s fun that Karl Anthony Towns
invokes the word hatred like we teach our five-year-old. Don’t say hate, but he’s 5. I’m totally cool with these
multi-millionaire professional athletes tapping into some good
old fashioned old school sports hate. It makes sports better. I absolutely loved, like when
I was a player for Denver going to the Raiders. Yeah, walking in that
stadium and having all those knuckleheads
just screaming at you. Cussing at you. You love it. And I love the fact that the
Pacers gave the New York Knick fans a little taste
of their own medicine, went out and gave it
to Turner, who did it. You can fact check me on that. Went outside and just
gave us the business. And so that’s that’s
awesome by him. And it’s fine for Knicks
fans to be upset about it. And remember, I appreciated it. Like you said, I love that
back and forth and I’m glad there are players
who enjoy that. But now it’s our turn. Good now it’s our turn. But to answer the
question, I don’t really know what the argument
would be, that it would be a lopsided series. These teams are very similar. Yes, they like what they’ve done
over the course of this year and they are healthy
now, which is great. I’m very happy about that. Yeah I mean, these
teams offensively defensively shooting
the 3 winning they are remarkably similar. The Knicks are a
better rebounding team. The Knicks have
home court advantage and the Pacers are
the deeper team. So there are
differences obviously. But I think Haliburton’s
clutch Brunson’s clutch. Both coaches have seen
everything there is to see. Obviously Carlisle has his
championship with Dallas. Thibs doesn’t, but
Thibs is a great coach who makes adjustments over
the course of the series, especially on the defensive end. I think this series will
be longer than the Western Conference Finals, because
I think Oklahoma City is going to dispatch the Thunder. I think this is a 6
or a 7 game series. I think there will
be technicals. I think it will be
rowdy in both gyms. I think it’s going
to be great theater. I think it’s going
to be a great time. I’m with you on that. I think it’ll be very close. I think it’s going to be
somewhat similar to the Pistons series, in that every game comes
down to a possession or two. Yeah, I think if you’re
predicting like what we saw last night with Minnesota
and Oklahoma City, look, either one of these teams
can come out and just shoot like crap
and get blown out because they didn’t shoot well. I’m just not expecting it. I think you’re talking
a lower scoring series. I think you get to 101st. You probably win most of
the games in the series and I’m with you. It’s going to be more
old school basketball. Very good defensively. I know the Pacers bench is going
to outscore the Knicks bench. That shouldn’t be a
storyline because the Knicks don’t have a bench. The Knicks don’t use a
bench other than Mitchell Robinson and Deuce McBride. You look at the Pacers
throughout the playoffs are 4 and 1 on the road. In these playoffs you look at
the pace with which they play and you look at. They’ve got six guys that
average double digits. So like they are a team
to sit there and say, hey, the Knicks are just going to
dispatch the Indianapolis. You or the Indy Pacers. Don’t forget they
haven’t played in a week. So I’m I’m a rhythm guy and
a momentum guy to a point. They’ve got none of it. They’ve been off for a week. The Knicks obviously a
little less time off. But what Danny said, I’m with
as well as a basketball fan. Look, I’m a die hard Nick fan. Obviously I want the Nix
to win and the quicker the better that that I got. Plenty of them too. That being the
case, I got a set. I gave you a set. He doesn’t get one because
he’s not rooting for. Well, he’s got to
wear our jacket. So you can’t wear that. The overalls don’t
go with my jacket. The Knicks are the
better team jacket. I truly believe that the
Knicks are a better team. And the one guy. The one guy that if I’m
going to give you a guy and I can’t pick Haliburton. The one guy that can be
a real thorn in my side is Andrew Nembhard. He’s good. He’s the one guy. I’m like, man, I don’t want
to see that guy because he’s he’s a scrappy dude. He plays point for them and he
tees up and he plays defense. That’s the one guy I’m
like, I hate that guy.
