Just throw Flagg into the fire. Make Flagg the primary offensive hub like Jokic. Sign off ball guards like bruce brown who can both handle the ball and play off ball.

Defense. Health. Availability. Consistency. Mamba. Kobe. Greatness. Health. Nico.
The Mavs can contend for the NBA Title with their current roster. No trades are needed. All they need is good help, good fortune and the good sense to N-O-T follow the nonsensical advice of their loyal FAN-addicts.
They have 7 guards on their roster who are viable options and are the deepest team in the league.

It's just a crying shame how we've been dumbed down to a shortsighted messy mass of petulant babies. We hate Nico now just like Jordan and Pippin childishly hated Jerry Krause! The Man who cut 10 players when Jordan came back then brilliantly got 10 others to play with Mike and Pip for their 1996 championship runs.
Now,
In equal measure, we hate the GM who got rid of a spoiled, entitled baby for a team that plays defense A-N-D offense, doesn't do trick shots or put up 23 treys in real time at a 15% clip.
The plain fact is,
If healthy….there is no team in the NBA that matches up with the Mavs as constructed [with Cooper & Gafford].
If this team loses any of their dominate bigs:
Gafford
Lively
A.D.
P.J.
And Cooper Flagg…they won't win anything. In fact, it will destroy that mysterious and tenuous thing called "chemistry" that they have in abundance simply cuz they bond, vibe and mesh together in every team basketball athletic sense.
And,
If you cannot see T-H-I-S UR stupid!!
1.) pay Gafford
2.) play Brandon Williams
3.) use our man Jaden Hardy
For Gafford is another Dennis Rodman…Brandon Williams is the new bad-boy Isaiah Thomas and Jaden Hardy is the microwave [Vinnie Johnson]

P.S.: it may be best to start Cooper as a 6th man, limit A.D. & Kyrie to 30 minutes per game + push the youngster as 6th man of the year. In light of their age and injury issues, trading P.J. is stupid…but…trading Gafford is suicidal.

Every PG doesn't have to be 6'6" with a 48" vertical. There's still a place for the little 6'1" guy that beats you with guile, craft and overwhelming fundamentals:

Brandon Williams
And, all the greats from the past. If you draft Harper you're developing another Brunson situation and both Brandon and Jaden will leave.
T-H-I-S is much to do about nothing for Cooper Flagg will bring…
1) serious defense
2.) Larry Bird shooting
3.) mastery of fundamentals
I think he should start at 6th man, win 6th MOY award then start at the 3 N-E-X-T year. He can easily sub for P.J. at the 3 or A.D. at 4 + play center when Jason Kidd switches to a "small-ball" unit.
Late next year [when Kyrie returns] the starting 5 should be:
A.D., P.J., Lively, Kyrie and Klay!
With Cooper subbing as 1st man off the bench. Brandon Williams and Jaden Hardy will sub for Kyrie until he returns. The O-N-L-Y problem they have is too much depth.
Because their entire front line and 4 other backups were injured last year they had to play games with 8 guys or G-leaguers or guys off the street so guys like Williams and Hardy got extensive playing time. As a result we know:
Hardy is good
Jones is very good
Christie is a revelation
Williams is unstoppable
And all the others are solid role players such that starting Cooper immediately is both unnecessary/counterproductive. He's best utilized coming off the bench to sub for one of the oft-injured bigs.
Facts
Of course get Luka for Flagg, not even a question. Luka on this current team is 3 peat level.
What I get out of all this psychotic babbling is:

Adding Coop-a-loop Flagg gives us a glut in length, talent, youth A-N-D savvy + all the intangibles.
Brandon Williams is the most explosive, savvy, super athletic scoring threat off the bench in the league…and…the closest to him is Jaden Hardy.
Both can pass!
If they trade any of their top bigs they'll be giving away the one thing they have more than any other team in the league:
Tall, long, shot blocking athletic bigs that have a high basketball IQ.
No other team has T-H-I-S!!
A.D. and Lively are fragile.
P.J. is suspect
Bringing in any other guard to run the show while Kyrie is out is a slap in the face & will destroy team chemistry cuz the old pros on that team have high regard for the exceptional play of Exum and Dinwiddie.
More importantly,
Brandon Williams is ready N-O-W!!!
All this garbage about "not seeing over the defense" and blah, blah, blah is denying what Kyrie has been doing for 12 years at a mere 6'2".
I want to go on record to say that if they get A-N-Y outside point guard to come in to run the team in Kyrie's absence THEY WILL WIN NOTHING!
They are a championship caliber squad and need N-O-T-H-I-N-G more than good coaching and health.
