The SGA/Halliburton model: Would Miami Heat trade Herro for a rookie contract? | Five on the Floor

With rumors swirling that the 76ers might try to unload Paul George and their #3 overall pick for another star, maybe even Kevin Durant, should the Miami Heat look at taking what the 76ers or another team in their position might offer? Would it make sense to take back a big contract for a declining player if it nets them a young star? Ethan Skolnick is joined by Eternal Bast and Digital Adel to deliberate.

  1. Welcome to 3 months worth of “Should they trade Herro/Bam? Will they land KD?”

Also, If the Heat keep the 20th pick, he won’t get any play time so who cares who is selected.

  2. Detroit has a taste of the playoffs and know they need another scorer. Herro would be an All-Star scorer and not have the burden of being a #1 option in a more natural position

  3. these teams remaining are Scoring Guard reliant why don't we offer Tyler + 2 future FRP to Philly for Maxey and pair Maxey and Bam

  4. With all due respect twitter aside no one would really care if they trade bam and herro to reset.. this team doesn’t hold value to the fan base at all

  5. Herro is probabaly a top 10-ish (barely) guard in the league. A bunch of those guys are not great on defense. The issues are
    1. If the Heat overpay as he's not a max, no.1 option guy on a contender.
    2. They are not very clear what the ball park is and limit with him. If they not on the same page you trade him NOW and jump as high as you can into the draft.
Personally, he'll be fine as the 2nd best guard on a strong contender. He damn sure ain't a 6th man no more..that take is wild.

  6. How on Earth did you land on trading Herro as a "Halliburton trade" candidate instead of Bam, when Bam is always compared to Sabonis as the same exact level/impact of player around the league? Like this analogy doesn't even make sense, you're all so washed.

  7. If your resetting the clock than Bam is the one you trade not Tyler.
28 years old and is going to be paid 50-60 million very soon while not being the best player. That contract will cause roster building issues soon. Why would you be worried about what Tylers contract extension will be when you already have a horrible max contract in Bam? You can get alot more value from Bam as well. Bam also lines up perfectly with what the Pacers did in the Sabonis trade. Herro still has upside to be better than he was this season.

Also only looking at the remaining teams as having a great guard and 2 bigs is too black and white. What this playoffs has shown is the depth and amount of scoring threats each team has. All four teams left have at least 3 threats on the floor which is harder to defend. The Pacers legit have like 8 guys averaging 10-20ppg who are aggressively looking to score. Yesterday Neismith and Nembhard were just as impactful/important as Haliburton was.

Miami only has Herro as a scoring threat. Defenses literally only care about shutting out Tyler.

Duncan being your second most "feared" player is a big problem.

    Wiggins looks disinterested.

Bam doesn't even look at the rim at times and defenses don't respect him offensively.

Davion doesn't get ball pressure and defenses sag off him cause no one respects his jumpshot.

Jaime was nonexistent this year cause teams scouted him well but he still has potential.

    Rozier was… yeah.

Jovic was great at times but bad at times too. He still has alot of potential though.

Ware is more of just a lob threat for now but same as Jovic he still has alot of potential.

Haywood can barely dribble and is in the PJ Tucker role which defenses leave open.

  8. So trading Herro for much worse players who are only like 2 year younger?
Might as well trade Bam whose 28 to not have two timelines on the team.

  9. I love The trade for Ivey/Holland. It’s something I wanted us to do if we were to blow it up.

I even like Schroeder a lot and was hoping he would be part of the Jimmy trade.

I also think we could and should do the same with Bam. If we’re getting younger, Bam falls out of our timeline anyway. Trade him to the Spurs or something for Castle or the #2 pick.

Lots of guys that I think could have break out seasons:
    Mathurin
    Kuminga
    Keegan Murray
    Shaedon Sharpe

We have to think like this right now. We’re not in the win now conversation anymore. We can’t keep looking for aging talent on discounts…they don’t fit what we got.

  10. I believe Tyler can be the lead guard with the right team built around him. All these other guards mentioned have had the luxury of having a team built around them for years. They also have experience for many years now being defended as the lead guy.

Tyler finally got that experience this year when he inherited a team built for Jimmy for half of this season. He also was thrusted into the lead role after coming back from a long injury with no preparation last year against the Celtics. Those Celtics and Cavs series really showed the roster construction problems around him and not so much that he can be a #1 option. He can't be the only threat and he needs some other threats around him cause thats just to easy to defend.
