Spurs NEED Another BIG! Can They Sign One?

Spurs NEED Another BIG! Can They Sign One?

Spurs fans, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Our team needs size. It needs length. It needs girth. [Music] What is up, San Antonio sports fans? Welcome to TSR Sports. Hope you’re having a great week. What an absolutely crazy bonkers night in the NBA last night, which I’ll talk a little about at the end of the video. But first, we’re going to talk about our San Antonio Spurs. You may draft a big, but we could use another big. And there’s a pretty nice free agent list of bigs that are going to be available after the season courtesy of Hoop Hype. I’ll put the link uh in the comments below because I’m going to grab some pictures from the their article. It’s just a really long article and scrolling would have been driving me crazy. But I wanted to talk about the guys that are going to be available and as we talk about each player, whether I think we can get them, whether they’re going to stay with their team or maybe we just don’t want them. And of course, I’m talking about the four guys behind me. All right, now that’s all said and done. Let’s get into the the cream of the crop. Naz Reed, the Minnesota Timberwolves are currently in the Western Conference Finals as we speak, although they did not look very good in game one. Hopefully have a better game two tonight. This is a former sixman of the year. Made 14 million last season, 14 points a game, six boards. I would love to have him on the Spurs. I think he’s going to Minnesota. You’re you’re on a championship attending team now. Sure, the Spurs are up and coming, but we’re not to the point of where Minnesota is. So Nazar would love to have him, especially if the price is right. I don’t see him coming to San Antonio. But you guys have been talking about him, said TSR, talk about him. So we’re talking about him, but I don’t see us getting Nazarid. Up next, I think a couple of you mentioned this. Bobby Portoris, he has a player option similar to Nazare. He has a player option. So he could choose to stay in Milwaukee, but I think a lot of that might depend on if Giannis stays or goes. That could work two ways. If Jiannis stays, he might be like, “Okay, we’re trying to win something. If Giannis goes could also be maybe I get more minutes. Bobby Poris is a 610 stretch four. He’s a good rebounder. Freddy’s not the best defender in the league. Actually says it right there. Not the most impactful, but he will give us size rebounding and three-point shooting. Three things we’ll need. The 30-year-old’s cost looks like it’ll be about what 13 million 14 million. If we could pick him up in free agency, I could see him being a solid player off the bench. Maybe a spot starter if needed. So this is a, you know, having bets on the team is not a bad thing. I know we all talk about the timeline a lot and that makes sense if you’re going to get a player that you the Giannis talks. Does he fit our timeline? We’re not ready to be a finals champion, you know, a contender at this very moment in time. Bring in Giannis that accelerates a time, but do our young players match the timeline as he’s getting older, maybe more injury-prone. So, you know, vets though, you know, your Harrison Barnes, your Bobby Portoris, your Chris Pauls, those type of players that can contribute. Yeah, I’d be up for Bobby Porters. Just it depends what if he says Milwaukee, then this is all moot point, right? Up next, the Swiss Bank, Clint Capella. One of the actually he’s the oldest one we’re going to talk about here today. He’ll be 31 this season and with us he would be a backup center if the price is right. Yeah, right now he’s looking a little expensive at 22 million, but he’s also coming off a down season where he averaged under nine points a game and under nine rebounds. Is Atlanta ready to move on from him? Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know. Clink Capella, if we could get him on a good contract, you two years, I’m thinking like 15 million a year in my head, but is he gonna is he going to take that much of a pay cut? Can he get that much of a pay cut with the way the CBA is written? I don’t know. But Clinkapella, yeah, I’d like him as a backup. He’s a great rebounder. He’s actually, I believe, he led the league in rebounding many moons ago. Last but not least, and this is the one that you all have probably talked about the most and the one I’m going to spend the most time on. The dancing bear himself, Gershan Yabiselli. I’m going to read the right actually they have there. Versatile defender, quick feet, strong, stout, and able to hit open threes and finish around the cup. Had a solid return season in the NBA. One that should earn him another look with Philadelphia who was a dumpster fire this season with injuries. 11 points per game, just around six rebounds, 50% from the field, and the very nice 38% from three. So, what’s stretch four? And he earned $2 million last season. All right, a little bit to unpack there. He’ll be 30 this season. I know I’ve already said that, but 30. He’s a power forward, but could play a small ball center type role. He is not small. He’s 6’8 so he doesn’t bring a lot of height to the team but he is 265 pounds so he brings the WMBB’s Olympic teammate from last year so there’ll be chemistry there big question here for his fans is he’s going to get a raise he’s going to get a big raise based on last season how much of a raise though three years for 30 million which would be what quintuple his salary years for 36 million maybe more I have no idea what his market value is based off that one season. He looked good in the Olympics and then before that played with the Celtics and I think he lasted two years and did it just did not pan out for him. But I would love to have him on the Spurs. Just a nickname alone, dancing bear. Isn’t that worth it? Okay, maybe not just based on a nickname, but I think he would fit perfectly what we need. A big that can shoot a three. He’s got the WBY chemistry great as a backup a spot starter. just to question his cost and of course is Philly what’s Philly gonna do Philly actually that is a damn good question what is Philly gonna do they were messed last season tons of injuries Jeremy McCain was looking like rookie of the year blew out his knee Joel Embiid was just usual his usual injured self they brought in Paul George that was a mess they have the third overall pick in this draft which is going to cost some money I believe third overall picks first year salaries at least probably around what 10 millionish nine to 10 million I think that’s what Steph’s his first year. So nine or 10 million. Do they have the cap to bring him back? Maybe, maybe not. But I would love to see Gershan Yasili join the Spurs. I think that would be a lot of fun. And just Yeah, I I’d like to see him with our team. He was fun to watch in the Olympics. I didn’t really see much of him when he was with the 76ers except for the games he played, the Spurs. This is a player out of the four I mentioned that I’d like to see us target the most and try to get. That brings it back to you guys though. Out of the four that I mentioned, Naz Reed, Bobby Poris, Clint Capella, and Gerban Yav Gerson Yavoselli, which one do you think we have the best chance of getting? Which one do you think fits the roster the best? One of these guys or none of the above? There’s a bunch of other players on that hoop type list. Again, I’ll put in the comments. Brooks Lopez is on there. Too old. Al Horford. Um, we got Santiago Adam, I think, was on that list. There’s there’s quite a few guys and more than I realized, but I was like, okay, there’s a lot of bigs out there that are available, but it’s ought to come down to fit and cost timeline, too. I mean, we don’t want to get Al Horford, Brook Lopez. I think Lopez made 20 million last year. He’s pushing 40. The Spurs are not going to pay 20 million for a player at that age at this point in their career. Just not. But it’ll be interesting to see what our Spurs do and if they can get one of the available bigs on the market. I did talk about the NBA playoffs a bit at the beginning. So last night, if you didn’t, I’m sure you know by now, an insane comeback by the end of Pacers. A historic comeback. Uh teams leading by like 14 or more with 245 left were like 977 and zero. Now they’re 977-1 because the Pacers came back. A crazy shot by Tyresese Hallebertton. And then he did the Reggie Miller choke thing at the end. And I did a short of it. And I’m sharing with this with you guys because not only an amazing moment as an NBA playoff uh NBA fan watching the playoffs, but my short was 2 minutes long because I wanted to get that whole big ending of the fourth quarter, the missed free throw, I think was OG missed a free throw, the the three but not three two-pointer by Kyle Burton and everything leading up to it and it got blocked by YouTube. That’s the first time I’ve had a short get blocked. And I looked into it a little bit and it turns out you apparently don’t have to worry about copyright if a YouTube short is less than a minute, but over a minute it get copyrighted. And by the time I took it down, shortened it, re-upload it, it was 10 minutes after the moment happened and there were already a bajillion other videos out there. So that probably could have been one of our biggest shorts on the channel, but got the old copyright. I’m sharing this with you guys. If you create content or thinking about making content, seems like you’re pretty safe if you make a short less than a minute. So, moving forward, all TSR shorts, sports shorts, whether it’s the Yankees, the the Giants, or the NBA playoffs, I’ll be live for Spurs game. So, obviously, there’s no shorts on that for the most part. Keep them under a minute. Got to keep them under a minute and you keep under a minute, too, if you’re doing it. So, that’s all I got. Drop a comment, likes, comment, you know, like, comment, subscribe, all that good stuff. Having a lot of fun this NBA season. Love the NBA playoffs. This is the most fun I think I’ve had watching the playoffs in a long time. It’ be even a funner. Spurs are finally in it, right? I thank you and as always, go Spurs go. Go cuz the giant sting.

There will be some great free agents in the NBA this summer. Can the Spurs sign one?

  1. Thank you for doing video! Heard some crazy takes from others. I do nto always agreed but do more often than not. You started with my favorite player in N Reid. 25 and still learning and would be a great teammate. MN has three free agents, so it is possible….Would love Myles Turner! Probably number 1, but no way he leaves Pacers. I do think Pacers will wine NBA C, so might be perfect situation for NR. Love Capella, but at a much cheaper price! You did not include Turner? Guessing because you thought there would be no way he woudl leave Pacers.

  2. Again, because of his age, he NR is the best fit….Played on successful NBA team, great attitude, has improved every year….I think he will continue to get stronger and with the Spurs staff, including Tim he is a sneaky twin tower…little shorter, but man he can shoot the three and has improved on that stat also…

  3. Spurs really need a big that can play or sub wemby… see when wemby is injured or when he’s off the court, they don’t have a legit big in the middle that can play good offense and defence. select the best big in the draft for #2 and train him how to play basketball the spurs way. Select KHAMAN MALUACH… if this happens, we gonna see the latest version of duncan-robinson tandem in their line-up. Go spurs go….

  4. Yabu would be great, but as a 6'8" guy he really is more of a power forward and overlaps with Sochan. If we want him as a back-up 4 (if we don't bring back Mamu) I'm all for it.

That said, we still NEED a CENTER, a legit 7 footer, whether it's drafting Wemby's buddy, trading for someone on our timeline like Walker Kessler, or getting someone to fill in until we get a long term solution, someone like a Steven Adams, Capella, etc.

  5. The Spurs definitely need vets in the team and two positions should be filled in this summer with experimented players :
    – A stretching 3&D PF (the Spurs need on this spot a starter who can score easily more than 10 pts per game in order to reassign Barnes to the SF spot and Sochan to the second unit).
    – A backup C (the Spurs need a backup for Wemby. We shouldn't spend too much money for this role as he won't play a lot, surely less than 15 minutes per game).

For the stretching 4, the possible options are :
    1) Naz Reid : as Randle is making very good playoffs, there are high chances that Minnesota would want to keep him. If so, they won't be able to resign Naz Reid. A sign&trade should be the better option for Minnesota to get something while losing him. The Spurs should definitely target him with a package with Keldon, Malaki, Blake and/or picks.
    2) Gershon Yabusélé : he is free agent and he is also a very good option.
    3) Cam Johnson : all teams want him this summer and the Nets will ask a very high price.
    4) John Collins : if he declines his player option, a sign&trade could be organized (Keldon, Malaki and Blake !!).
The options Reid and Yabusélé are very interesting because both of them can also play backup 5 (if Wemby needs to rest a game). The other two cannot.

For the backup 5, lots of vets are available at the free agency. As soon as he is not too expensive, we can get one with part of our mid-level exception.
The draft is very loaded with lot of bigs. We can select one with our second round pick (Raynaud, Broome, Kalkbrenner,…).

  6. you know those FA want more money right? thinking outside of Capella they'll sign for their current salary range it's clearly dellusinal…

  7. I don't understand 6-7, 6-8 centers. "Well they have a wingspan of two school buses or their standing reach is 10-3". Unless they are going to stand on their hands and block shots with their feet they won't be any use in coming years. The Wemby effect is going to become a realization. You're going to see 7'+ players coming in that act like Guards or Small Forwards shooting the rock from all over the floor. In that context Hell make me a center, I'm 5-8, can barely touch my toes, can't shoot for crap. I can run up and down the court with Oxygen available at each end. Dirk was just the start. We need 6-10 or better centers. Raynaud, Lachlan Olbrich (showed pretty good in combine), Hansen Yang. Heck even Johni Broome

  8. The Spurs can get Steven Adam’s or Clint Capela cheap in free agency. One of them would be a perfect backup for Wemby.

  9. Jeremy Sochan is at most 6"6, he can't be a power forward. If he can't play 3, there is no reason still keep him.

  10. I think Giannis is trying to to send a message or scare the bucks into getting him another star player to bolster their roster

  11. Dylan Harper said Ace Bailey should be drafted no 1. I watched them both with Giannis. I think they should draft Ace Bailey. Plus he's 6'10"!!!

  12. …Naz reed and yabusele are like sochan…portis and capela are not that good defenders anymore…I want a 7 foot backup…draft wemby's friend at 14…or move up to draft kahman malauch… but out of those 4 Naz reed is the better defender

  13. Getting any good vet is going to cost $8-20 million; to average 8-12 points, 6-8 rebounds on the Spurs as a backup to Wemby. Any center in this draft is going to give us the same numbers, maybe less, but cheaper on a rookie contract especially in the second round. The dollars don't make sense for us. A true center with the 38th pick is the only route the Spurs have unless the front office can trade up the 14th pick to get Maluach.

  14. ive said it before and not many agree but if we could get steven adams it would be a great addition to the team. great offensive rebounder, strong and a great vet.

  15. Well, lets face it. We are 2 to 3 yrs away from competing against elite teams. We are slowly building with a very young core. So if that is the case, I will want to gamble on a relatively unknown big. A 7' 1" center from Penn State, who should be available at the 33 – 38 spot.
His name is Yanic Konan Neuderhauser. A huge athletic giant who has risen up the boards after he put on a solid performance at the combine, with impressive stats. Measured 7' .5 without shoes but 7' 2.5" with shoes. He can shoot, defend, drive, rebound. Just a fun guy to be around too. Always laughing and enjoying his time on the court. Hails from Switzerland. Has the personality of a soft, spoken, polite, very Spursy guy. Great fit. Check out his video's on YouTube. You're going to love him. I actually think he is a better prospect than Reynaud, Sorbert, Queen, Wolf, Beringer, and Broome.

  16. Draft Harper, best available SF/PF @14. And C @38. Get Luke Kornet as second C. Sign and trade Fox to Utah for either Lauri or Collins.

  17. Naz Reid may be too expensive for a backup big and Yabusele is a PF. I think the Spurs may be able to get a back up big with the #38 pick. Raynaud has been climbing up the draft and #14 is a big reach. An alternative could be Ryan Kalkbrenner.

  18. Draft raynaud if he’s there at #38. Or trade up end of 1st rd or higher at 2nd rd. FA sign Gershon or Adams. Naz would be perfect but maybe too expensive.

  19. "Dancing Bear" might want a different nickname. Some will associate it with the pornographic videos I've heard about with procured male strippers at wild bachelorette parties.

  20. I pray the spurs draft Ace Bailey. Id rather have him than Dylan Harper. And it really grinds my gears all my spurs fans would rather have Harper.

  21. Would Steven Adams be a decent add as a back up center on a really cheap deal? I’ve always wanted to see him as a Spur. Seems like he would be a nice enforcer next to Wemby.

  22. Santi Aldama would be a GREAT STEAL from Memphis. Shot 38% from 3 this year, 7ft and runs the floor like a gazelle. NOT very "girthy" but hustles on offensive reb, leading scorer for Spain national team in his 4th year in the league. Rich, he's a more established "Mamu"
