Dallas Mavericks BLOCKBUSTER TRADE For Jrue Holiday? Mavs Trade Rumors Are Heating Up

[Music] It is trade rumor season here on Mavericks today and that’s exactly what we are talking about. We talked about Derek White yesterday from the Boston Celtics. Now we have to talk about another Celtic in Drew Holiday. There might be some more Celtics come to as far as Mavs trade rumors go. I want to kick off today’s show by asking you guys this question though. Should the Mavs and Celtics make a trade? If you think they should, type T for trade. If you think they should not, type P for pass. I got to tell you, there are some intriguing names that the Mavs and Celtics could potentially swap here. Starting with Derek White, uh, who I think would be a fantastic fit for the Mavericks, but a trade probably wouldn’t be the best move. And we do have, uh, a video for you up on our channel right now about Derek White that we filmed yesterday. So, go ahead and check that out. If you see that thumbnail right there, you know you’re in the right spot. But today, we are going to be focusing on Drew Holiday, who is a really good guard for the Boston Celtics and someone that could make a little more sense for the Mavericks than potentially Derek White could. The rumors surrounding Holiday have picked up. Basically, since the Celtics were eliminated, combined with uh the Achilles tear of Jason Tatum, it could potentially make Holiday an intriguing option for not just the Mavericks, but other teams around the NBA. We’ll take a look at his contract to start here. And sorry, my voice is gone. I was yelling at the Dallas Stars game last night. What a win for the Stars, by the way. But anyways, Drew Holiday’s contract, he’s making 32.5 million next season. In 2627, it’s 34.8. And then he has a player option in 2027 for 37.2 million. And Drew Holiday, multi-time all-star in this league and obviously an NBA champ in 2024 with the Boston Celtics, is still a pretty solid player, although I do think he’s pretty much past his prime on the offensive side of the ball. This season, averaging just 11 points, less than 45% from the field and only 35% from three-point land. whereas when he won the championship with the Celtics, he was shooting 48% from the field and 43% from three. That’s not to say he can’t get back to shooting 38 39% from three if you were traded with the Mavericks cuz he’d be playing in a different role. But Drew simply isn’t the player he once was. He’s on the wrong side of 30 and at the end of this deal, he’d be 37 making $37 million. So, that’s certainly a hindrance that I think Nico Harrison would have to uh try to figure out as far as a trade framework goes. But here is a trade that our Celtics Today host Tyler Smith sent me. And I got to tell you, I was pretty intrigued by it. I think Drew Holiday along with draft compensation uh in exchange for Daniel Gaffford, Caleb Martin, Jaden Hardy, and Omax. Look, if the Mavericks are getting draft compensation in addition to Drew Holiday in exchange for those four players, again, I love Daniel Gaffford and I’d love to keep him, but he is in going into the last year of his deal and probably wants a contract extension or he’s going to hit the market and the Mavs lose him for nothing. This would be something I’d be interested in. We’ll dive into all the details here in just a moment, but I want to ask you guys, would you accept this trade? If you would, type A for accept. If you would not, type D for decline down in the comments. And this will be the pin comment on today’s show. You may get hit with a YouTube ad break here in just a couple seconds. And while that happens, go on down there and let me know whether you would accept or decline this trade. Got to tell you, I’d be intrigued, man. Like, I know Drew Holiday, like I said, isn’t the player he once was, but he fits a couple of desk of things the Mavericks need desperately. And we’ll get into the pros and cons here in just a few moments of a potential Drew Holiday trade. But I got to tell you guys about our sponsor, which of course is Prize Pix, America’s number one daily fantasy sports app. Pric has over 10 million members and billions of dollars in awarded winnings, making daily fantasy sports accessible to all. Unfortunately for game one of Stars and Oilers, I did not make money on price because I went with the Moore on Jake Hotinger. 27 and a half saves. The Oilers didn’t get enough shots for Jake to even get to 27 and a half saves. So that may be a good thing. Matt Duchain though did score his first goal of the playoffs. So we got we hit on that one. And then Conor McDavid, you knew he was going to get more than one and a half points. I was just trying to speak it into existence as he ended up with two assists in the game. So, I didn’t make money, but you can with our friends over at Price for game two. Download the Price app today and use code CLNS to get that $50 bonus when you play your first $5 lineup. Again, you don’t even need to win to receive the bonus. It is guaranteed. That link is in the comments and the description of today’s show. Shout out to Price. Run your game. All right, so the pros and cons of a Drew Holiday trade. Let’s start with the pros. Fills the need at point guard. We know Kyrie Irving is going to be out until at least January rehabbing that torn ACL. So, and Holiday has played point guard multiple times in his career, including uh when the Celtics won the NBA title in 23-24. So, I think that would be a good fit there. He’s a fantastic point of attack defender, one of the best guard defenders in the league. He’s the guy that’s going to pick up the point guard as soon as he crosses half court and hound him and affect uh the other team’s offense in a very positive way for his team that’s on defense. So, I think he’s a fantastic point of attack defender that the Mavericks have frankly been lacking since Derrick Jones left from the Mavs to the Clippers in last year’s free agency. And then you recoup some draft assets. We all know that the Mavericks don’t own their own pick from 2027 to 2030. If you could get a protected first round pick from the Celtics, I think you do this deal. And then there are, of course, the cons as well. He’s well past his prime. I believe he’s 34, about to turn 35. So, you’re getting an aging player. And it is a bad contract. I mean, 37 million in 2728 is a player option that Drew Holiday is certainly going to pick up at that point in time. And he’s cooked offensively. We showed you the numbers earlier. Shot less than 45% from the field this year and shot less than 35% from threes. So, if you weigh the pros and the cons together, um, look, there are certainly reasons to do it and there’s certainly reasons that you could be against it. And I could go either way. I will say this though, Holiday sort of fits the Mavs two-year window that Nico Harrison created when he inexplicably traded Luca Donic away. This is now a two-year window alongside Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving with the Dallas Mavericks. And Holiday absolutely fits that. He’s still a really good player and I think he still has some left in the tank. Again, I don’t think he’s going to be playing at an all-star level like he would earlier in his career, but he can still absolutely serve a role on this Maverick team if they were to go that route. And if this was the offer for Drew Holiday from Brad Stevens, uh, the GM of the Celtics to the Mavericks, I think I’m in. However, I don’t think this would be the offer that Brad Stevens would present to the Mavs, uh, including Drew Holiday. I think it would be, uh, more, I would say, favorable to the Celtics. Uh, because they don’t want to be giving up an NBA champion either. Like I know Drew Holiday, like I said, isn’t the guy he once was, but he’s still extremely valuable to the Boston Celtics, especially next season, uh, without the presence of Jason Tatum. They’re going to need that veteran leadership that Drew Holiday presents in that locker room. So, I don’t think that Stevens would accept an offer of Omax, Hardy, Gaffford, and whoever else was in that trade. I can’t even remember, but uh, and in addition to giving up compensation for Holiday, I just don’t see it happening. Yeah, Caleb Martin as well. Like if he wants to take these four players in addition for Holiday and draft compensation, I’m doing it right now. I I think I would to be honest with you, even given how bad the Drew Holiday contract might end up being in a year or two. But so we’ll see. Drew Holiday a potential option for the Mavericks in the offseason. I’m not sure it happens, but a name to keep in the back of your mind as we head deeper and deeper into the offseason, closer to the draft, closer to free agency and trade season. Before we get on out of here, let me ask you guys this. More or less of one and a half trades for the Mavs this off season. Do you think they’re going to make more than one and a half? Type M. If you think it’s less than one and a half, type L for less. Play price picks with me and use that code CLNS down in the comments section. And I briefly wanted to mention the game last night between the Pacers and the Knicks. absolutely bonkers as Tyrese Hallebertton we thought hit a game-winning three that bounced high off the air and into the net, but it turned out to be a two. They went into overtime and they ended up beating the Knicks in the Garden in game one. The Knicks had a 12-point lead with three minutes to go and lost and Hallebertton pulled out the Reggie Miller choke and he said he’d do it again if he had the opportunity. So, fantastic game. These conference finals have been awesome. I’ll be watching Thunder and Timberwolves tonight for sure as well. And we’ll keep you updated, of course, if anything happens in that anything crazy happens in that game as well right here on the channel. And that’s why you hit that subscribe button. It’s youtube.com/mavsstev. The offseason is here. We’re kind of in the doldrums of the offseason, but there are some trade rumors out there. And of course, the conference final still going on. So, we’ll talk about it all here on the channel. Hit that sub button and we’ll see you soon. [Music]

  1. He wasn’t great this post season and he cost a lot in money and assets to get him. I’d rather have CP3 for half the season starting until Kyrie gets back.

  2. I am fine trading Gafford and keeping PJ, but Jrue takes up way too much cap space for his age and productivity, which will make it harder to work out extensions for PJ and DLive. Hard Pass.

  3. Books would look TERRIBLE we'd be first apron at best but probably 2nd, and we'd have expensive 34, 35, and two 37 yr olds. NO. NO NO NO

  4. Jrue Holiday at 30 million a year for two years!?! No way. Just sign Chris Paul. He is serviceable and he made 10 million last year. You just need a stop gap until Kyrie returns. The Mavs need to get younger at guard too with their next big move.

  5. So, we’re going to make a trade with the team, and to improve the team, that is basically the justification for why Luka was traded. I don’t know if this is stupid or poetic or yet another slap in the face by Nico.

  6. hell nah that's way too much for an aging guard on his last legs lol… giving up young players with a lot of potential in hardy and prosper and a proven paint protector/lob threat in Gafford.. smoking rocks if you guys think this is a legit trade for us lol

  7. Nope, he’s not the answer. He still a good player, but that’s too much money for his age and we’re losing way too much depth for as players.

  8. I'd take that trade all day Jrue is a pros pro like Mike Conly and when kyrie comeback would could focus on just guarding the best opposing guard or small foward
