COULD the Spurs DRAFT Wemby’s Buddy at 14!?

Maxime Raynaud has been moving draft boards, could the Spurs draft him at 14?

  1. I love the potential of Carter Bryant and Rasheer Fleming but the idea of wemby back to his natural position of PF and Raynaud at center is very interesting to me but i don’t know πŸ˜…

  2. Draft Bryant or fleming at 14. Maybe trade up if max isn't available at 38 or they can just draft ryan kalkbrenner at 38

  3. Should give castle the 16 3s per game this upcoming season just like wemby did earlier. If they still think big on sochan and Blake, they should also join.

  4. I like Maxime! Not sure he is the right big man, but I love his passing, touch and shot which I know he will improve. I might draft him, but there are others…We might be able to get a big muscular forward that would learn, but I do wish you would do a video on N Reid. I think getting Reid, getting a muscular forward and trading a few second round picks to get Maxime to move up a bit.

  5. As usual, I will trust PATFO because they are the pro's and have way more info than we do, and they can talk to Wemby about Raynaud. Fundamentally, I wouldn't draft him at 14…Harper at 2, and if we keep the 14, we go for a 3&D forward wing…there will be a few. We could trade down potentially, or trade up from our 2nd rounder, or do pick swaps if the front office really believes in him. How many young players do we want at once, though? I'm going to just trust them to make the best informed and strategic call.

  6. No way is he worth the 14th picked, like him at the second round. He probably drafted at the end of the first round. I doubt Spurs want three FRP in the same year just for resigning purposes. You don't want that in the same year, which limits the flexibility.
Side note, Mock drafts tankathon and bleacher report do a great job of evaluating draft prospects, Yahoo is dookie, along with ESPN.

  7. This would do..unlike trading catle vassel kj. And number 2 for giannes..to expensive….πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚people don't do math…old and expensive..πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  8. Why not? Raynaud can shoot, mobile,& can defend a little bit all the spurs need just need a dominant center like mark williams for guarding jokic, emblid type big man

  9. I am ok with taking him at 14. Again we don't need a bunch of guards. Unless there is another Big Man that is better than him ok. But he did 4 yrs in college no? That means he is mature and should be ready for the NBA. Plus he is a good buddy for Wemby. Also, he will get better in NBA with better trainers and coaches.

  10. Just from watching Maxime's highlights he still looks like a late first round pick and I would not use the #14 pick on him. A couple comments I read said he was Zach Collins 2.0. At first I thought this guy was more polished offensively than Collins but then I realized I was watching Collins freshman season and Maxime's senior season highlights. Collins looks like the more mobile/athletic big even from his freshman season. Both players are around the same size. Collins though arrived to the Spurs after injuries, don't know how much athleticism he might have lost. Maxime can shoot the three, his shot has a bit of a pause in it but if he can still hit in the NBA then it should be fine. Still, there should be some very good talent on the board at #14 that I would have to pass on Maxime.

  11. as a french dude loving the Spurs for… shit like 26 years ;p , i would very much like this move. This dude Raynaud would be a REALLY solid role player, he's extremely focus mentally and hard worker. And apparently a very good lad as well. Already pretty accomplished and rounded, he's ready for the NBA transition

  12. I've seen Raynaud in several interviews for french podcast or NBA shows : the lad is NBA ready and as smart as you expect him to be. Twin Eiffel towers would be lit and would allow the Spurs in spans to have two great bigs on the floor. Getting ready for the Chet / Hartenstein combo, I would like the chances of our duo here ^^

  13. Rasheer Fleming is more plug n' play than Raynaud at the moment. Spurs could grab him in the 2nd round

  14. I agree he would be a stretch at 14 and that lately his stock has risen and probably not there at 38; some teams can find hidden gems in the 2nd round but the value of those picks now a days have become futile; mostly just used for 15th roster spot and g league; like last year I doubt the spurs keep and use both higher picks due to the slot contract value. They used 4 and got the best player available they wanted and then traded away 8 for a future asset that combined lead them to trading for Fox. I expect them to do the same this year; if they are not sold on a player why just draft the next best player available. Beginning of the draft it makes sense when there is a contrast between productivity vs potential. Why overpay for the slot when looking at potential or a guy that either is not the best fit for your system or is seen as a role player. In the past teams never needed to think about it; with the newer CBA there are still many not thinking about it and the future impact. I think the spurs understand this as shown last year. The total slot value if all options are exercised from pick 1 to pick 8 drops by around half. From 8 to 24 it drops by about half again. From 19 to 30 the difference is only about 5 million over the next 4 years. Once you get to this range the value of the contract is negligible to 2nd rounders except you have the team options to keep them for extra years as 1st round picks as opposed to 2nd rounders as they are not held to such rookie scale parameters; they can sign for one or 4 or whatever they desire. So if they really like this kid or any other player to fit within their system but view them a potential work in progress then trade down and recoup a little draft capital and get them at the slot value that makes sense. The NBA teams need to start thinking about this like baseball and slot bonuses. Top of the draft I am probably signing those guys to their slot bonus or above as not all drafts are equal so why pay equal value for the slot. But once you get to the back 1/3 or half of the first round who is it that I want that fits not now but in a couple years. I may have to draft and sign them above slot value to keep a high school pitcher I see potential in from not signing and going off to college for a couple of years. So back to basketball if I have 14 and he is considered 38 and I split the difference and can get him at 26; I can get my guy under contract for 2 plus 2 and save about 8.5 million overall value by trading down and perhaps drafting him higher than originally expected to make sure I get the guy I see that fits the team and improves the depth of it. If you have stars with big contracts and only settle for minimum contracts and 2nd round picks your team is 7 or 8 deep in real minutes and continual contract turnover. If a team is planning ahead knowing upcoming financial restrictions and starts utilizing picks 19-30 more wisely I think a team could be more 10 player deep in regular minutes and improving the overall talent of that depth with the options to keep the chemistry around longer if the potential turns into production. So I could see him being a player that would be great to draft and fit their system in needs in the mid 20s and still give them lots of flexibility not only financially but in his potential and allowance in time to grow. There is a lot of let’s call it moneyball type analysis that place value in these back 1/3 of the first round picks that some teams still do not recognize and it causes them to overpay and underpay in spots of depth they truly need by not understanding the value of these picks in constructing their roster long terms.

  15. While he's not a super high talent, he is still everything else you could want in a big: great size, consistent, versatile, smart, rebounds well, passes well, can stretch the floor, good on both ends of the floor. And, at 22 with 4 years in college, he is NBA-ready. I always want to take the best player available, but if the Spurs took him at 14 I wouldn't cry about it. 20 and 10 in college is pretty dang good.
