This is why I'd argue the 2 was better. If it was a 3 for a win, the devastation would be immediate. The loss was quick and out of nowhere. Like ripping the band aid. The tie into OT gave 5-ish minutes of Knicks fans contemplating if they were actually gonna choke. And they did. It was more surgical and devastating. A twist of the knife.

Indy is a force to be reckoned with…
They feed on disrespect and create chaos everywhere they go. FACT: The Denver Nuggets fired head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth on April 8, 2025, a few days before the NBA playoffs after being humiliated by Indy on their home court.
FACT: After Milwaukee lost the series 4-1 to the Pacers Giannis puts himself on the trade market. FACT: They destroyed Cleveland leaving the entire city in a crumpled heap.
Still none of the "experts" seemed to think there was anything "special" about the Pacers.
SPOILER ALERT: If indy wins this NY series, Tom Thibodeau will get probably get fired. You can almost smell the desperation.
Indy has a TEAM of hooping brothers who know each other exceptionally well. They can beat you in a lot of ways. Still, they manage to fly under the radar. They laugh and smile and have fun playing a kid's game for millions of dollars. They know how to adjust the "heat" to lull an opponent into celebrating too early and doing stupid stuff while they watch their “well deserved win” get snatched away from their grasp even when sporting odds like – oh say, a 99.8% win probability for the Knicks with less than two minutes to play in game one. The Knicks had good reason to “power down”. Oops.
To me, this Pacer team represents the essence of all that’s compelling about team sports. They obviously love, admire and appreciate each other in a supportive, unselfish way. They play more like a college team than an NBA team. They’re having fun. They are meticulously well prepared physically, fundamentally and mentally with abundant energy, stamina and resourcefulness.
That said, the Pacers are calm. They’re playing with house money. There’s no way they can keep this up all the way to the championship. CAN THEY?? I can tell you this. When we were down 17 points with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of game one there was not one Pacer or true Pacer fan who assumed the game was over.
They say Indy is lucky. They say the refs blew calls. They say the other team choked. They say it’s all because of injuries. As the wins pile up for the Pacers I am certain of one thing. Win or lose, absolutely regardless of what becomes of this series and beyond, as soon as it's all in the books, they'll still be A TEAM looking for ways to improve because they are keenly aware that they're far from perfect. I would assert that even with their flaws, they're a damn good basketball team. They've been underdogs in every game in the playoffs so far and they are 9-2 and 5-1 on the road. That’s not luck. That’s a force of nature.
