This Is A STEAL For The Dallas Mavericks…

This is an absolute steal for the Dallas Mavericks. As we all know, the number one problem that needs to be addressed this summer is the point guard position. And a lot of people online and in my comment section have said, “We already got enough point guards. They can easily hold it down or we have enough talent in other positions. We won’t have to worry about the point guard position.” And I’ll be the first one to tell you that you’re wrong. We will be without Kyrie Irving for arguably half of the next season. And you don’t want to lose games because you don’t have a good playmaker. And on this channel, we’ve talked about a few point guards that could possibly fit that role, but they’re more combo guards or scoring guards, but there’s one player that everybody seems to be just raving about that they say we have to go out and get, and that player is Taius Jones, who will be understood free agent this summer. So, in this video, we’re going to take a look at Tyus Jones. How well did he play last year for Phoenix? What does our good friend Lauren Gun have to say about him? And whether or not this is the right move for the Mavericks. But how’s it going everybody? My name is Marcel Martin. This is Mavericks Digest, bringing you the latest news on everything Mavericks related. And before we get started with today’s video, we’re currently sitting at 20,859 subscribers. I’m trying to get to 22K before the end of the summer. I think we’ll probably hit 25K, but I’m going to start the goal small and just grow from there. So, if you want to be up to date on everything Mavericks related, make sure you subscribe. But the Dallas Mavericks, we’re in somewhat of a pickle. Last Monday when we won the NBA lottery, we all knew we are getting Cooper flag, which does change a lot of things for the Dallas Mavericks. A lot of people figured we have the best odds of getting the 11th pick. We will most likely stay at the 11th pick, possibly go down, but that’s where we’re going to land and that’s what we need to focus on. Who’s going to fall at 11th, most likely a point guard, take them and go on about our summer go into next season, see what we can do. But now that we know we’re getting the number one pick and we know it’s going to be Cooper Flag, that still begs the question, what point guard are we going to get? And on this channel, we’ve talked about several point guards that a lot of people are talking about like Kobe White or Derek White. There’s also other players out there like Malcolm Brogden, Chris Paul, even Ben Simmons people people are saying we should go out and get. But there’s one player that I think would be a great fit for the Dallas Mavericks, and that is Taius Jones. And surprisingly, I’ve kind of come around to Taius Jones. Last summer, a lot of Mavericks fans thought we should go after Tyus Jones over Spencer Denwidy or Dante Exom. And I argue, no. Dante XM plays great defense for us. He’s a great third ball handler. And Spencer Denwidy plays his best basketball in Dallas. I’m fine with what we have. No point in trying to just find someone new every year. Stick to what works. But when you have a player like Taius Jones, who’s obviously an upgrade, why not go for a player like that? If we take a look at Taius Jones this year, for the season, Taius Jones was averaging 10.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 0.1 blocks,.9 steals, and only 1.1 turnovers, as well as8 fouls per game, shooting 44% from the field, and 41% from three. For a backup guard, I will take that every day, twice on Sundays. And to put things into perspective, compared to Dante Exom, he scores more, assists more, and has about the same amount of turnovers per game. Five assists to one turnover. That’s amazing. And compared to Spencer Denwitty, yes, Spencer may score more than someone like Taius Jones, but obviously Spencer turns the ball over way more than Taius Jones does. As far as Taius Jones, Tyus Jones defense, I get it. It may not be exactly what we’re looking for. It may also not be the absolute worst. We have really good defense. We have really bad defense. And I’m talking about Spencer Denwitty as well as Jaden Hardy being two of our worst defenders. But I don’t think Taius Jones could really be that worse when he’s giving you so much more. If if he can give us 10 points per game, five assists, he’s responsible for at least 20 points a game with his assists and points, maybe even more. And that could be the difference between being a top team when Kyrie comes back to being another bottom feeder when Kyrie comes back. and we’re struggling in the second half because we’ve had no playmaker and that could be all the difference in Dallas. If we take a look right here, like I said, it was reported by Shams last week that the Mavericks will be pursuing a point guard, whether that’s in the trade market or free agency. Also adds that Kyrie could be targeting a return in January. And everything that I’m hearing is that Kyrie could be back late December, early January. I’d argue more likely late January just to be safe. But I think Taius Jones is exactly what the Dallas Mavericks need. We’ve talked about several other guards on this channel since the since the lottery last week, but it feels like Taius Jones is the right answer. And there’s a couple other players out there that could also fit the bill, but Taius Jones able to produce five assists per game, 10 points on his own. That could be what the Dallas Mavericks need. And once when Kyrie Irving comes back, Taius Jones can go back to coming off the bench for us. And obviously, he’d share that role with Brandon Williams. We can’t forget about Be will the disciple of Kyrie Irving himself. But until we are secure in our rotations of our guards, Taius Jones will be the differencemaker. And arguably, I think he would replace the production you get from both Dante Exom and Spencer Denwitty. Now, Spencer did play the most games out of any Maverick last year. Yes, he was available. He came up big for us. I appreciate all that Spencer Denwitty did. And Dante Exom, when available, some people prefer him over Spencer, but the problem is Dante is almost never really available, dealing with injuries multiple times throughout his season. So, Tyus Jones could be the answer that that the Dallas Mavericks need at the point guard position. And the most important thing that we all have to keep in mind is when Kyrie Irving comes back, whoever is a starting point guard is going to be going back to the bench. You don’t want to bring on a guy like Kobe White, who is a starter caliber player, who may not be okay with being a backup, even if it is to Kyrie Irving, even if it means in the next year or two he could be our starting point guard as Kyrie Irving gets older or deals with injuries. But you want somebody who’s natural in that backup role. A player like Taius Jones could be that in spades for us. But if don’t just listen to me about it. Our good friend Lauren Gunn had a lot to say about Taius Jones, saying that Tyus Jones, I’m sorry, it’s that time of year again. Let’s talk about Tyus Jones. Taius Jones is one of the top guards available in free agency this summer. And the context of his last two seasons make his potential fit in Dallas much more interesting. Jones signed a one-year, $3.3 million contract last year in the summer of the second apron that yielded an incredibly dry market for vets. Jones joined Phoenix in hopes of contending for a title and to land his next payday. Jones got benched during the final stretch of the season and the Suns failed to make the playoffs. Safe to say Jones did not have the type of year that would warrant a large contract in the summer. The Mavericks, who will be without their starting point guard and Kyrie Irving until 2026, need someone to bridge the gap between the start of the season and Irving’s return. After winning the draft lottery, Dallas is projected to be approximately $3 million over the second apron, which presents some hurdles. There has already been speculation surrounding Daniel Gaffford and his value as a trade asset. He’s set to make $14.3 million next year. Caleb Martin, Jane Hardy, and Omax are also in the books for 9 mil, 6 mil, and $3.8 million, respectively. So, with that first part right there, yes, the money is what makes things interesting. I guess what works in the Dallas Mavericks favor is that Taius Jones really didn’t have a standout year last year that would cause a bidding war for him. If you look at the landscape of the NBA, not many teams are like the Dallas Mavericks where we desperately need a guard. A lot of teams that are contending are looking at bigs, looking at forwards like PJ Washington and centers like Daniel Gaffford as those are the two players that are being talked about many by many teams as far as targets in this summer. But Taius Jones could be exactly what we need where other teams may not be looking for him or looking to give him a big contract. And if you have someone like Spencer Dwey and Dante Exom who make about five or six million dollars combined, just give that contract to Taius Jones, call it a day, start the season and get these dubs in spades. It could definitely happen for the Dallas Mavericks. I think it’s something that’s super realistic. And why not? I don’t think it hurts us. Yes, we have the aprons to worry about. We have to worry about our money. But if we’re trying to be in a win now window, which we’re currently in, you got to do what you got to do. You have to bolster this team. Get the best talent available. Sure, luxury taxes, you may have to pay something, whatever. Cool. We got billionaire owners. They can afford it, especially if it means a championship. Not saying Tai Jones will bring a championship, but he could definitely help your odds until your superstar like Kyrie Irving returns. But just continuing with what Lauren Lauren Gunn said. She continues by saying, uh, the difference from last summer is that the Mavs need a guard who isn’t just a vet to come off the bench. They need someone who can rise as a starter while also being productive and efficient as a bench guy upon Irving’s return due to the importance of that need and the severity of the second apron. I expect some roster changes or subtractions to be more specific to both get out of the second apron and balance out their roster. This is what makes the Mavericks a dark horse landing spot to bring in another Duke alum while giving Jones a lob threat filled roster to remind the league why he has finished top two and assist turnover ratio in each of the last five seasons. and earn his next payday. And I think that last part is something that needs to be understood by fans. He finished top two in assist to turnover ratio in the last five seasons. It really does make me wonder why hasn’t Tai Jones been picked up by any of the contending teams that could use a backup guard, which also just what I said earlier may need teams that are contending may not need a backup guard. They need bigs. We’re seeing it right now in the playoffs that the that the two big man lineup is what is what is leading a lot of teams to success. But the Dallas Mavericks already have that. We need a guard and Taius Jones could be exactly what we need to get us over the hump, hold things down till Kyrie Irving comes back and help us get a chip or at least get us close enough. But just to wrap up this video, we got to take a look at the money because the money matters. If you look at Dante XM and Spencer Denwy, their last season was last year. Currently, they are not on the contract. They’re not on the books, but we paid them combined. what Dante was making $3.1 million and special when he was making $2.08 million about $5 million combined. Give that to Taius Jones for a one-year deal. Call it a date and keep it moving. I like it. I know a lot of people like it. I’ve seen in the comments section. I’ve seen on Twitter, on Reddit, a lot of Mavericks fans think Tus Jones is exactly what we need. And I’m finally now coming around to that idea as well. Let me know what you let me know what you think in the comments section down below. Do you think Taius Jones is a perfect fit? Do you think this is what we need? or is there another player out there that you’d rather us go after? Let me know what you think in the comment section down below. We can have a conversation about it. But that’s all I got for you guys today. Thanks for making this hard to the video. Make sure to check out our Twitter and Discord links in the description below. And as always, y’all take care. Drink water. Peace.

Tyus Jones’s steady playmaking and elite assist-to-turnover ratio make him an ideal fit for the Mavericks’ backcourt rotation. His ability to run the pick-and-roll and hit clutch midrange shots would complement Dallas’s star-driven offense. In this video, Marcel Martin breaks down why Tyus’s skill set perfectly aligns with the Mavs’ needs and how his arrival could bolster their championship push.

  1. He doesn't turn the ball over but I like ball.. taller, better defense, and won't command much $$$ especially being an insurance policy.

  2. what do you mean by this is a steal for the mavs the moves hasnt happen ,we are not even sure they going for tyus jones ,that bug shit head nico whats players who play defence and that dude doesnt play defence thats nico'snthinking not mine

  3. Imagine if we could trade for Derrick white and somehow get tyus jones. 2027 nba champs

  4. Why trade assets for a future back up. The Mavs are the Perfect situation for any FA PG. Super talented roster with tons of Starting PG minutes available. No reason to be desperate amd trade assets for a rental. Save tbise assets if we end up building around Flagg. Dont use em for a PG.

  5. Ain’t gana lie, I’m “intrigued” by Simmons, he can rebound, Pass and play D and we all know Nico Loves D.

  6. Tyus Jones is at least in theory the kind of prototype of guard needed in Dallas. Pass first and can shoot. Would have to at laugh at Nico if he says anything about defense first though, Jones is an absolutely horrible defender though the Mavs should have the guys to cover for him.

  7. He has Spencer’s assist-TO ratio without the bad shot selection. That’s a definite upgrade

  8. I’d still start Brandon Williams over Jones so it’s not an improvement. And Williams is a better defender and rebounder in my opinion.

  9. If not Tyus, then Naji gonna have to handle.
Give BWill the 2nd unit w Lively. And w everybody’s health, we can’t trade PJ, Lively, or Gafford.
Hardy and Omax project is over or GLeague.
    Give Powell a coaching spot.
Choose between Spence and Exum. Cut/trade Martin.

  10. love this, been yapping bout him for months one of the best "true pgs" for the last half decade
one thing i'll say is watch out for late first round prospects, we traded into the draft last time for omax, i don't doubt we do it again here as it could be a pretty solid move cap wise. i can see rebuilding team valuing hardy, omax and caleb as a package to get into the late first round and we potentially walk away with a stop gap like walter clayton or kam jones to pair with tyus/cp3 + dante and bwill while kyire's out. (we could also walk away with some of the sleeper home run guys like adou thiero, cedric coward, rasheer, or yaxel and simply pick up another vet min pg in f/a) doing this would also free up around 10m to somewhat make up for pj and gaffs increased contracts this seems like the move in my eyes rather than a bunch of trades and roster turnover. shed the unneeded contracts, pick up the goated vet mins available in f/a and make room for gaff and pj, Keep the guys who wanna be here and have shown themselves to be valuable to our rotation and if the fit is wonky, re asses at the next deadline.

  11. Man has multiple 10+ assist games even a 16 assist game vs the Post PJ/Gafford trade Mavs. Definitely underrated point guard
