The Rockets’ Core Is Untouchable – Even For Giannis

The Rockets’ Core Is Untouchable – Even For Giannis

Now, when you have a player the caliber of Giannis under the Kmpo, and this is no ordinary caliber player, this is a player who is currently top three in today’s NBA. And not too long ago, he was just honored as one of the 75 greatest players in NBA history. So, when this guy comes out and he publicly verifies or he publicly says that he’s open-minded about his future with his current team, the Milwaukee Bucks, I would encourage most teams in the NBA, to pick up their phone, hit their front line, and see whatever they need to get a player like Giannis Anakmpo. Even if it means an an obsessive amount of draft capital or even if it means coming off one of your most young promising pieces with a bunch of potential. I would encourage most teams in the NBA to do that. But there are select few that I think they will be better off from breaking up their core, breaking up their team and their synergy for a player like Giannis Andre Dmpo. And the team that I want to be looking at today is the Houston Rockets. And today we’re going to be going over all of the reasons to why I feel this way. And before we get into all the layers of this topic in this situation, what I see from the surface reason of why I’m going to go for this trade is just I love the trajectory that the Houston Rockets are on right now. And I love the way that they’ve been doing it. I feel like most of it has been internally and it has been organically around the players that they have drafted, the players that they scouted, picking the right talent. And yes, they made big free agent signings and trades, bringing in guys like Fred Van Fleet and Dylan Brooks, but it wasn’t to make them the face of the organization. It was to help those guys who they believe are going to become the face of the organization right now. And I just feel like that that has been working so well for the Houston Rockets once they were able to find the right head coach and coach Eime Udoka and get in that much needed veteran help. We seen how good the young talent on the Houston Rockets, you know, were the guys that were already selected. And we just look at the draft terror that the Houston Rockets went on. It was absolutely crazy. Look at 2021 bringing in it’s like the it’s like in every draft the Houston Rockets, they nailed it at the top and then later on they got a steal in the draft. When we look at 2021, getting Jaylen Green with their lottery pick and then later on getting Alrren and Goon with the 16 and then we go to next year’s draft where they get Jar Jabari Smith Jr. at the top and Tari E later in the first round. We look at 2023 where they get a men Thompson at the top and then they get Cam Whitmore later in the first round and then we look at 2024 where you know one of their trades paid them off where they got a top three pick and that turned into Reed Shepard. So the Houston Rockets right now they have a an an insane amount of young talent and what happened for them last year really the last two seasons is that they seen that their their their young talent could compete. We saw it during the 2023 NBA season where they got off to a really good start. They had a spot in the Western Conference playoffs and then they had some key injuries where it looked like that one point where they were done for the season and then they got really hot. Made it interesting with for that final 10 spot with the Golden State Warriors where they ended up not being able to get into the play tournament, but they s they showed that they had all the potential in the world. And then next season they picked right back off up on that momentum still with the nucleus being these young um these very young NBA players also along with Steven Adams u Fred Van Fleet Dylan Brooks all of these those three guys were much needed veteran presence but the big thing is the nucleus was all of these young guys that the Houston Rockets had drafted. It was Amen Thompson. It was Jaylen Green. It was Alprren Singon Tari E Jabari Smith Jr. you know, in my opinion, all of these guys were the best players on the Houston Rockets. So, that’s right right there at a surface level why I was just kind of like, uh, I don’t know. I don’t think we’re we’re ready to make this trade right now. We’re just coming off a 50 season win. Uh, I mean, a 50- win season in the more loaded um conference in the NBA. And we lost in the first round to a Hall of Fame franchise with three Hall of Fame um three Hall of Fame players and a Hall of Fame head coach. So, I don’t think it was no shame in that. And they lost a seven game series where in that series, I don’t think it was necessarily that they got outplayed by the Golden State Warriors, but they had a lot of self-inflicting wounds when it came to not um executing in the half court and not being able to knock down free throws. So, I think it’s so much buil for these last two seasons of the Houston Rockets. And that’s just at a surface level. And before we keep breaking down on the reasons why the Houston Rockets just stay put and keep building around this young court, it wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t talk about how great of a player that Giannis Dumbo is and how this is enticing for the Houston Rockets front office. Because like we said in the intro, this is Giannis Ankmpo. He’s a top 75 player in NBA history and he’s a top three player in today’s NBA. And a lot of people feel like if you have Giannis on your team, you have a chance to win an NBA championship. But we just look at the Greek freak as a basketball player. Um I think he’s very actually underrated. I know James Harden had that whole thing where he said um and this is back when James Harden was a Houston Rocket. He said all Giannis does is is run and dunk. And I know it does look like that from a surface level, but it’s actually so much more than that. like Giannis, his ability to handle the basketball I I think is very very underrated. He’s one of the tallest, one of the strongest players in the NBA, but he has a very very elite ball handle. Like he has a tight handle on the ball. His usage rate shows that and how much he brings the ball up, you know, from the back court shows that as well. He has a very tight handle on the basketball. His footwork is impeccable, you know, from his euro steps to his hop steps to, you know, taking those strides that gets him up the court in one to two to three strides, all of that. And then it translates to his post game as well. So, he has tremendous um footwork. And then he’s the best finisher in the NBA. We know Giannis, if he gets that ball anywhere anywhere near the paint, it’s a 99.99% chance that he’s going to score the basketball. And then on top of all of that, on top of all of that, um the what you get when I dempo is that you get a an elite 2-way ball player. And I think Yiannis de Kmpo under his belt. I want to say he has two defensive player of the year awards if I’m not mistaken. But he’s a guy that you can play at the four out of five. He’s an elite help defender, an outstanding on ball defender as well. And then he’s securing boards. So, we know Giannis um as a basketball player, you’re getting something so special, so elite. Um we look at Giannis under the Kmpo’s character. Look at his look at the basketball player that he was when he came into the NBA and look at who he is right now. I think that says enough about him right there and the type of player that you’re going to um that you’re going to be getting. And you just look at Giannis in his last playoff series. His last playoff series, he averaged 35 points and 15 rebounds. So, we all know Giannis Ano is very special. But with all of that being said, with Giannis being that great, with me believing he’s a top three player in today’s NBA, I’m still loving all of the potential of the young talent on the Houston Rockets. And we look at these young guys, man, like Jaylen Green and Alpon. They’re the elder men when it comes to the young core on this team. And they’re just 23 23 years of age. 23 years of age. And I don’t know what it is about today’s time, but it seems like everything everything in life is is is um is starting to become is starting to be is it’s expected to be a lot more accelerated. I don’t know what it is, but these these guys are just so young and the season that they just came off of, they won 50 plus games. 50 plus games and they took a prime Stephen Curry to seven games. I think that’s very impressive and that’s something that I will be so excited to build on with the players that I already got. And what’s so crazy about the Houston Rockets is that I can go through so many players, so many young players on this team and talk about how they have legit like legit crazy potential that they have showcased to us. And we look at Amen Thompson. Amen Thompson has become one of the most popular basketball players um in the um in the world. We look at Amen Thompson. The first thing that I really loved about him, his rookie season, it seemed like no matter what role coach Emma Yodoka put him in, he shined and succeeded in that role. When we look at him, you know, whether he was coming off the bench, whether he was in the starting lineup, whether he had to play center, whether he had to bring the ball up, no matter what it was that coach asked him to do, he shined in that role. And he carried that over into next season. Um next se this season it was the same thing just a steady arrow going up of of growth for Amen Thompson. He started the year as a bench player and finished it as a starter and considered to be one of the best players on the basketball court. Um that had a series with guys like Jimmy Butler that had Draymond Green in his series. Stephen Curry Men Thompson. Um he was the he was a player that everyone was talking about because of his his great play. So they have a an a guy with elite potential in him. We look at Al Princen Goon who had an outstanding year for the point that he’s in in his NBA career. 20 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, five plus assists per game. He made the All-Star team for the first time. And if I had to guess, by the time those AllNBA teams comes out, he’s going to be on an AllNBA team this year. So it’s a special year for Al Princeon. and listening to him talk in interviews, he’s still hungry and he still wants to continue to get better. Once again, this guy is just 23 years of age, putting up those crazy numbers, making the All-Star game and probably going to make an all NBA team. And we have Jaylen Green, who had a borderline um All-Star season. Despite the the terrible outing that he had in the NBA playoffs, it still was an outstanding regular season for Jaylen Green given circumstances. when we look at him being the leading scorer on the team that won 50 plus games this year in the Western Conference, that’s something to be proud of proud of. That’s something to build off of. And Jaylen Green, like I said, I know the stock on him is really low right now because what we seen in the what we seen in the playoffs was it it was hard to it was hard to watch because we know what he’s capable of. And that’s another thing that, you know, it’s going to sound crazy, but that’s one another thing I would be excited about because I feel like what we saw from Jaylen Green in the playoffs, and I’m not saying it wasn’t bad. It was very bad, but I thought it was something that didn’t had it had nothing to do with his basketball capabilities, but some to do with whatever his mindset was. So, I think that’s something that they need to explore. But the basketball talent is is is definitely there. A ton of basketball talent. I’m talking about potentially could lead the NBA and in scoring one day doing it efficiently. He just needs to start believing in himself and becoming more consistent. And then the same thing we look down the u we look down we keep looking down this Houston Rockets roster. We look at Jabari Smith Jr. and Jabari Smith Jr. is a guy who I thought um who I would have loved to see I wanted to see him see the court some more in that playoff series against the Golden State Warriors. when we look at his size, his athleticism, his ability to guard multiple multiple defenders, and then his very soft touch on his jump shot. But I like Jabari Smith Jr., um, I love his floor and his ceiling a lot because at worst with Jabari Smith Jr., you’re going to get one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA with a ton of size that can rebound at a high level, defend at a high level, and guard multiple positions. Same thing with Tari E. Tari E has elite potential to be the um he has the potential to be um the one of the best defenders in this league when we look at all the things he can do on the defensive side of the ball. His ability to rebound the basketball, his ability to be a nuisance. And then offensively, he’s just a guy that knows how to be in the right spot at the right time. He can knock down an open jump shot. He’s a great cutter and a great finisher around the rim. And then you have you still have Cam Whitmore on this roster. You still have Reed Shepard. You have the number 10 pick in the You have the number 10 pick in this year’s NBA draft. So, I’m not saying that the Houston Rockets I’m not saying that they should stay put and not make any moves, but I don’t think they should rough it up some rough it up so crazy for them to land a player like Giannis and Dmpo. But definitely the Houston Rockets should be looking to improve their roster, bringing in additional three-point shooters, bringing in guys that can knock down some free throws. But um that’s how I feel about this trade situation. You guys let me know right now. Would you let go of a piece like Al Princeon in a trade for the Houston Rockets? Would you let go of Jaylen Green in another piece um to land a guy like Giannis on the Koopo? Let me know what you think down in the comment sections. The Houston Rockets are building something special — and it might be too valuable to trade, even for a generational talent like Giannis Antetokounmpo.

In this video, I break down why the Rockets’ young core — including Alperen Şengün, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. & more — might be untouchable.

  1. I believe you bro, I share same sentiment with you. The Rockets should follow the Okc,the pacers, the Grizzles and the nuggets models. These teams only made marginal improvements and they became contenders. 4 out of 5 Nuggets starters are draft picks…Jokic,Murray,Porter,Bruan. Even their bench has many draft picks, Same thing applies to the Grizzles. You don’t win titles by rushing things otherwise the Brooklyn nets would’ve won it when they had KD,Kyrie & Harden. And every year the Clippers kept making all kinds of trade, yet they unable to get to conference finals.

  2. When Giannis type player comes available top 5 u have to go after that or take a chance on your rivals getting him as well like San Antonio

  3. I wouldn't trade my core for him, allegedly Giannis wants to stay in the East, the man scared of the West, he not ready to play West teams 3 to 4 times a season, let him stay in the East where it's safer, we could find a piece in free agency instead of giving away guys that's barely old enough to drink.

  4. Yeah I think the rockets should just keep their core and minimize brooks and van vleet role I’d rather by 6 seed next year if Jabari is in the offensive scheme more and a starter and reed is getting quality reps I also think cam should start over brooks just to get him more reps rockets should prioritize building continuity and developing their guys rockets have potential 5 top ten picks on their roster why are we relying on green to break through give the reigns and opportunity to other guys we gave it to amen and he became an all defensive player in his second year Jabari is great defender and our best shooter why is he on the bench and we aren’t scheming for him truth is rockets are a lot better than we displayed in the playoffs and we even did good for our first series don’t give up on what you earned from humiliation and tanking

  5. Another point I would like to make is media wants and thinks we need to add a star and trade away young talent that makes us good media doesn’t know shit they definitely didn’t have us as the second seed this year or a playoff team rockets in two years became defensive juggernaut the offense will come I’m sure of it in house don’t let the media psyche you out thinking a team of 23 years old hit their peak because of one promising season and offensive struggles yk another young defensive team that got swept in the first round isn’t calling for them to blow it up Orlando why the hell do the rockets have to blow it up for older vets 😂

  6. I agree with you. The Rockets are building something much better and longer lasting than any trade they can do for a vet player with a max contract.

Here are some moves that I would like to see the Rockets do this summer…

Resign and rework FVV's contract ($28m range x 3 years).

let Jeff Green, Tate and Holiday go (cap & minute reasons).

Trade up to #6 (Wiz) in the Draft…

Rockets get: #6 (used to select Cedric Coward-22yo SG on a 4 year rookie contract) + Anthony Gill (33yo PF on a expiring contract) + 2030 Swap (via Suns).

Wizards get: Cam Whitmore (20yo SG/SF on a 2 year rookie contract + #10 (they can use on a PF).

    Then trade JG (23yo SG) + Landale (30yo C) + rights to 2025 (#59 after the draft) + 2028 (Hou 2nd) to the Kings…

    for DeRozan (36yo SG/SF on a 2-year contract) + Valanciunas (34yo C on a 2-year contract) + 2030 (Sac 1st Swap) + 2031 (Min 1st) + 2032 (Sac 1st)…

This will make the Kings 17 years younger, and they need to get younger around Monk (27yo), LaVine (30yo) & Sabonis (31yo).

Plus, the Kings don't have a 1st this year and they will end up having a 1st round pick every year from 2026 onward (except for 2032)…

This will give the Rockets a vet backcourt of FVV & DeRozan for the next 2 years with Reed (PG) and Coward (SG) as their backups and to be the future starting backcourt. They both are excellent shooters and defenders that play team ball. DeRozan will give them vet experience next season and could be traded for future picks after one season on a expiring contract if his minutes and cap space are needed…same with Valanciunas.

If JG hits his potential, then great for the Kings. The Rockets need consistent outside shooting (3&D SG), JG can be shut down (as we saw by GS) and his cap savings will help the Rockets to hold on to the rest of the young core longer.

  7. We took the Warriors to 7 games and they might have beaten the wolves if Curry hadn't been injured. Keep the Rockets core together and add a few draft picks and give them 2 years to grow together. We don't need someone who has 10 years in the league already.

  8. Everyone agrees Rockets are ahead of schedule. Why break up the youth roster. All in their 20’s with few veterans. Tanking hurt rookies and zero coaching by Silas. Ime laid down the law. Let time, experience and more coaching plus minor tweaking improve the team 🏀

  9. I feel like rockets is a hood place to be at for a young rookies to look rlly good like jalen green bu adding him would be a good offensive drive for the

  10. Finally I agree they we have a such young core and breaking up is not worth it , they are just getting developt

  11. he is not top 3 players in the NBA. There are others better than him, like Jokic, SGA, Doncic, Kawhi, and Curry.

  12. Tbh Houston did great in the playoffs. Unfortunately they ran into curry. I am
Almost certain if they would’ve played anyone else but curry, they would’ve gotten to the second round and we wouldn’t be talking about this. With all this being said, green shoulda still been better. It wasn’t just in the playoffs that he was trash but throughout whole season. Very inconsistent player. Unfortunately his trade value is very low so I doubt Houston will trade him but, that’s the only move I see can help them improve. We don’t need to trade away our core for a player like giannis.

  13. As a rockets fan Giannis isn’t really the right fit for us don’t get me wrong he a top 3 player and I would be excited if we got him.

But then we will have the same problems which is lack of shooting and spacing. I just don’t think we are capable of building a roster around Giannis

We need a a guy that can give us some perimeter shooting and the only two stars are KD and Booker.

Booker would be my choice but the Suns dont to trade him. Wouldn’t mind going after KD and have him lead us for a few years and Alpi and Amen get more playoff experience

But it looks like the rockets are concern with his age.

So yeah I think most likely we stand pact most likely

  14. 20% Rockets fans are sane, 40 % fu….. racists, the other 40% are perfect idiots. The worst case is these racists and idiots overlap time to time. They just want to destroy 6 years of build-up just for soon be out of use Giannis. Whose IQ higher, bananas or those kind of Rockets people. Jury is out.

  15. I say the rockets should go after Derrick white a 3 and D player who they don’t have yo give any of the core away you may have to give a reed shepherd and cam whitmore and a few picks but that’s all
