Jamahl Mosley: Foul Call on Banchero “Definitely changed the series.”
Jamal, what explanation did you get on the review on Palopen Carro’s fifth foul and how did that swing the outcome of this game? Oh, it definitely swung the series. It definitely swung the game. I don’t I have no idea what the explanation was. It was he came into his path. All I saw was Paulo getting a elbow to the face or backed into the face and he gots the foul and that was the that was a game changer right there. Your best player picks up his fifth foul in the third quarter. It becomes tough to come back from that moment. But our guys, you know, continued to fight. We missed a ton of shots. They did a hell of a job getting down on the break and hitting some big shots in that situation. Jamal, what did you see there on his on Paulo’s third and fourth fouls within the preceding 90 seconds? What I saw was the fact that he was driving to the basket and not getting calls. And in those moments, there’s a level of frustration that can kick in when they’re impeding your progress to the rim. And so they give him one charge and then they give another one where he’s a touch foul again. And then the same time he goes to the rim, they’re bodying him out of the way and there’s no call. And again, they see it, we see it, but it doesn’t get hit. And then he picks up his fifth foul on what could have possibly been an offensive foul. I don’t know. That’s where it becomes a little bit frustrating because I don’t understand what we’re calling in that moment. Perhaps you’ll you’ll speak to the team about the overall season tomorrow or the day after that, but did you what was your message to your team about the season they’ve had and the effort they’ve put in in the immediate aftermath of this game if you felt it was appropriate? We uh we spoke a little bit afterwards. um despite all of the things that happened with the game, despite what we think is good call, bad call, right call, wrong call, those are all part of the game of basketball and we understand that. Um but what we did say and I said to this team was I’m extremely proud of the way that they competed and represented the Orlando Magic all year. And you can go down the list for the things that have happened to this group and every reason to understand that we could have felt sorry for ourselves and we never did. When Paulo goes down, guys stepped up. When Fron went down, guys stepped up. When Jaylen went down, guys stepped up. When Mo went down, guys stepped up. When Ji went down, guys stepped up. When Wendell went down, guys stepped up. Name the list. Koga goes down, guys stepped up. Everybody found a way. And that’s who this group has continued to be and will continue to be moving forward. No matter the circumstances, no matter the adversity, no matter what you’re hit with in a season, you find ways to step up and step into the moment that you’re called called upon. It’s it’s kind of been part of the story all season about the team’s struggles shooting from three. Um there have been a lot of games like this one where there are a lot of open looks that just just won’t go won’t go down. How how did you think the team handled the the frustration of that of of those misses or or what what what how would that have changed the game or or or just how how do you kind of reckon with the shooting struggles in a game of this magnitude? You know, in in this moment, it’s it’s you know, hard to judge exactly when those things hit us because as Paulo filed out, it changed the way in which we played. um different lineup, different rotation, trying to find the right moment, trying to find the right rotation in that moment. Um but again, we were up at halftime with the quote unquote shooting woes and with them being on the free throw line a ton. Uh so again, it’s those moments. Yes, we see them. We’re alert, aware of them, but we got to we continue to fight through by defending the right way, getting trying to get easy baskets. Uh you know, that didn’t happen tonight in the second half for multiple reasons. Jamal, there was a sequence in the second half in the second quarter where Boston made a run and then later in the third they went up 10 before stoppage. You know, why not consider calling a timeout before it gets too much momentum their way. It was a 10-point game. Correct. When I called the timeout, 60 to 70 called the timeout and that was to settle us down. And so now in that moment, they go on another run and then P gets that foul and then we’re in another situation. And so I think looking at it, you know, you can burn it a couple times, but you’re also understanding that these guys um were getting great looks. If they were not getting good looks and we weren’t at the rim, I would there’s a definite reason to look at another one. But I think we got great looks, great shots, and that that ball going in the hole and they had this the run outs because of long shots, long rebounds or misses at the rim, those created some easy baskets. So there wasn’t a consideration to call a timeout maybe before it was like a five-point game or a six-point game. I I always say this. If we weren’t getting good looks and I didn’t like what we were getting, I would call the timeout. If there was if it looked like the guys were in a different space, but we got some great looks. We executed some plays. We got some wideopen shots. And I hear you on the point. But if we weren’t getting the looks that we needed, I absolutely would have thought about calling a timeout. But then as it got to 10, that was when it was like we couldn’t find a way to put the ball in the hole. Then you slow it down. Jamal, that’s that’s obviously one of the alltime offenses on the other side. Mhm. How do you assess the way you guys were able to slow them, especially from three over the course of this series and then obviously in the third and fourth there, they were able to break out from three finally. What changed there you feel like? For a team that averaged 120 all year, high power offense, off three-point shooting. I mean, I think we did a a very good job holding them to overall in the series either 105 or 102 uh for the series. I think we’ve done a great job and a team that shoots almost 50 threes a game holding them to average about 30 per game. Uh I think our our guys did a great job at home. We held them to nine threes a game made here was 14. Uh our ability to do that I I give our guys a ton of credit for following the game plan locking in uh to exactly what we needed to do. What did Fran show you tonight and throughout the series that just stood out to you? I mean, his ability to take on all challenges, guarding, you know, team’s best players, uh, being able to score on both at on that offensive side of the ball, uh, just his toughness, his resilience to find ways to get things done no matter the circumstances. Jamal, perhaps this is too soon in the aftermath of the series, but projecting forward, what can a series where you guys battled Boston the way you did throughout these five games do for your group moving forward? Well, you have to take the lesson. You have to reflect on it and as as you go forward this summer and not look at an excuse, but how do you improve on what you need to for the next season? Like what did they do so well that it, you know, you gave yourself a chance, but you didn’t get over the hump? I think you have to be able to look back and reflect on specific things that you need we need to work on uh as players as well as coaches to be able to see what we need to do better and how we can get over that hump. You talked a little bit this morning about the weight Paulo carried in the series. How disappointing is it for him that he wasn’t able to be out there for much of that second half in a close game and you know what do you take away from this series in terms of his growth? I think he’s grown a ton and he’s going to continue to grow. I think his ability to put a lot of that burden on his shoulders to try to do the right thing, to put guys in position, to perform at a high level, understanding how defenses are covering him, what he needs to do, and how he’s able to do that. I think this is a time that, you know, when you look back this summer, you reflect on it exactly how you have to how how we’re going to have to work, what the things we’re going to have to do. It’s ultimate growth uh for him and for all of our young guys to see exactly what they need to do moving forward because you just went toe-to-toe with the champs um you know in a five for five games and understanding yeah you’re right there in each game and then there’s just small margins of error. So how do you continue to work to get better at the little things that we need to to do? Mentioned some of the specific things that you know you guys will have to work on this summer. Is that something that you think about right now or do you just kind of look towards that in the future or or is there something that kind of sticks out to you right now? You know, you process this game. You process what these guys have done all year. Um, you know, I go back to just being very proud of the group that that we have and what they’ve done and their their mindset all year, I think, is the biggest thing that stands out. There’s obviously onc court work that we’re always going to have to do, but I think the ability to have the mindset to get through anything that happens is very big for us. All right. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate it. I went back with I want Fran is

what a sook, get a better roster
Dirty team & coach complaining about foul calls๐
Refs always gonna give Celtics the calls against teams like the magic. Just like how the warriors got given the game last night. Sad but true ๐ข๐ ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐๐
BAHAHAAHAHAH
The tragic are overdosing on copium.
You got outplayed by skills. Sorry your UFC moves didn't work again. Lmao.
C's on top!!! โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ
Mr. Mosley such a class ACT !!!
๐๐๐
SOFT. The Magic aren't tough or hard, but they are dirty. If they played that dirty try to injure players type shit at the park in most cities in America, they'd have a gun or weapons pulled on them, with reason. The ONLY reason the Magic were able to compete in this series was all the bullshit they got away with. Won't happen again.
10th
That man needs a box of tissues not a bottle of Gatorade. If he cried any more during that interview he would have shorted out his microphone.
Kind of crazy hearing this after watching the series. Gotta take the good with the bad as it pertains to calls.
YOU A WEAK ASS FOO'!! YOU EAS OVER MATCHED CUZZ'!! ADMIT THAT SHIT', MY ๐ฅท! YOU ALL COULDNT HANDLE BIG 'BEANTOWN'! STEP HOMIE! STEP DAT ASS TO DA SIDE! โ๏ธ MOVIN' ON….
Your team was playing football for more than half the series. I really donโt want to hear it. Enjoy Cancun thank god this guy is getting fired cause heโs such a cry baby
Celtics won series by 64 points ๐
Game 1 Celtics +17
Game 2 Celtics +9
Game 3 magic +2
Game 4 Celtics +9
Game 5 Celtics +31
You boston fans are delusional and most certainly 3 quick fouls to take paolo out of a close game, we have no shooting and still could've won 3 games, your team soft but yall did step up and hit your shots and closed us out, you guys are a great team but you bitch so much and think the refs are against you, hard to respect it
Why is your best player on the court so early with 4 fouls ? LMFAOOO always look to blame anyone else but themselves ๐๐๐ WHO KEEPS THEIR BEST PLAYER IN AND RISKS THAT 5TH FOUL LMFAOOOOOO take accountability and stop the yappin โฆ yall had more flagrant fouls then the rest of the playoffs combined at on point โฆ. It was 3 to 1 thats sad yall played jail ball and purposely knew what yall was doing and still lost LOL
Seriously toe to toe? Yall were demolished!
The irony of complaining about fouls when they magic were hacking all series. The coach dogging accountability is indicative of his poor strategy to contain the Celtics
He has the nerve to cry about fouls. In this series, Tatum got injured, JB got hurt, Zingus got 6 stiches, all because his team was allowed to play rugby.
Magic coach complaining about the whistle is peak level lack of self-awareness. Holy Moly! He's coaching a rugby team and he's bitching about calls. Crazy work.
Your tried to muck the game up! & Boston adjusted period. Your just don't have enough talent to beat that kind of team!! Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth!!!!
He really up here talkin bout fouls like his team wasn't out there doing what they were doing…3 flagrants in 3 str8 games resulting in injuries to 3 starters ๐๐๐๐ u got to be kidding me
You can tell who actually watched the game in the comments and who watches highlights.
Lol how about JB and KP been in foul trouble the entire series man ๐ญwhat are we even talking about!
Get him out of the game when he got his fourth early in the 3rd quarter Coach. That's on YOU!
You a $h!tty coach…your dirty bird style of playing didn't work…Boston pretty and handsome, but they tough…u can't win on just dirty play…u actually gotta play basketball (put the ball in the basket)…my advice to you, from one coach (7-9 years) to another (NBA)…change your gameplan or roster!!!
Your fanbase sent multiple threats to members of our local Orlando media. Classless
Crying about officiating after losing a series 4-1 is pathetic.. The Magic are an unskilled, weak willed team.. JB had Paolo crying on the bench after getting his 5th foulโฆ Embarrassing ๐คฃ
definitely swung the series of 1-3 in the playoffs against the defending champions that never hit a 3 game skid all year ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Talk about delusions of grandeur ! His strategy of excessive fouling and in some cases mugging opponents on the floor contributed to the loss
You should not have left him in-period! You did the same thing in game 2โฆand Paolo was in there โin spiritโ. Meaning the celtics attacked him consistently and he had to play defense with his eyesโฆcelts went on a run. The moment a 22 year old picks 2 quick fouls, take him out, cool him down a little.
Complaining about Branchero's foul calls is crazy, Celtics had Tatum out injured and still won 4-1. Coach acting like they could beat the Celtics!! ๐๐ if it wasn't for those darn foul calls ๐๐๐
No way this dudes playing the victim card rn especially after injuring 4 of our guys. You put Banchero out there and you knew he had 4 fouls. Your dirty play was never going to beat the Celtics, own up to it.
This guy is full of it and pathetic
