Raptors Trade Rumours Escalating… (and I hate it)
Raptors trade rumors are escalating right now surrounding RJ Barrett and I absolutely hate it as we’ve seen multiple reports drop regarding RJ Barrett’s future and involving a trade and now these rumors have named multiple suitors for RJ Barrett. And yes, while there are some interesting players and packages that could be put together coming back to the Toronto Raptors, everything we’ve been hearing, all the discourse frankly has me very, very frustrated. So, we’re going to break down what the reports have been of RJ Barrett over the past few months and now the new rumors that have people fired up, what it means for the Toronto Raptors. They go forward trading RJ Barrett and what we can expect from this Toronto Raptor team in the offseason. So, lots of stuff to break down out here in this video, but folks, you guys been crushing it, hitting the subscribe button out of as of late. I appreciate every single one of you. If you’re part of the 52% of our viewers that haven’t hit the subscribe button just yet, make sure you guys hit that sub button so you don’t miss a single thing that’s going on with this Toronto Raptors team. But let’s jump into it because of course RJ Barrett’s a piece that I have been outspoken on these videos. I have brought it up time and time again over the past couple months. I do not want to see him get traded. RJ Barrett has been a guy that frankly had a phenomenal season for the Raptors last year. 21 points per game, six rebounds, five assists, only 24 years old. Shot 35% at the three-point line and over 40% out there on corner threes. The man was our most consistent player. He was relatively healthy last season. And yes, Scotty Barnes is the most upside on the roster. Brand Ingrams our most established player, but last season, last year, just in that sample size, RJ Barrett was the guy that really day in day out was the player the Raptors could rely upon and did everything for this team. He facilitated, he scored when he was focused defensively. He did a really solid job. RJ Barrett really proved to a lot of Toronto Raptors fans that he could be the player that achieves the potential he had when he was drafted with the number three overall selection from the New York Knicks and you know the guy that people were were touting as you know the Maple Mom but whatever it was and Andrew Wiggins had that nickname as well but a guy that really just has that potential for this team. So we saw that last season but we’ve seen a ton of reports and this has come out over the past couple months from Mike Scott. These aren’t specifically new, but he came out and said, “With the Toronto Raptors envisioning a front court of Scotty Barnes and newly extended Brandon Ingram along with former lottery pick Brad Grady Dick at shooting guard, where does that leave current leading scorer RJ Barrett’s future?” Based on conversations before the deadline, a Barrett trade could be or Barrett could be a trade candidate to monitor this summer. So that’s coming from Mike Scottto. Went on to say that that Barrett h was discussed in trade talks uh for Brandon Ingram with New Orleans, but the Pelicans preferred the expiring contract to Bruce Brown and stretch five center Kelly Olen who’s owed $13.5 million next season. With Trey Murphy and Herb Jones on the wing, the Pelicans didn’t view Barrett as a suitable fit for their roster as talks would have necessitated them finding a third team. So the Raptors already were shopping around RJ Bear. Saiou Jerry was willing to throw him out there in the Brandon Ingram sweep stakes and the other report indicates this summer he could be a trade candidate and everything that’s going on there. Now this is a part I’ve given my two cents on this. I think it would have I I’m very very happy we got Brandon Ingram. I think the trade we made to acquire Brandon Ingram was phenomenal for the Toronto Raptors. If we gave up RJ Barrett in that trade package, that’s a different story. That’s a whole different bag of worms. You’re disgusted. You’re bringing back value. all that type of stuff. So, that is uh you know, I won’t dive too too deep into that, but the Raptors have already shown a willingness to uh deal away RJ Barrett despite the fact he’s such a valuable piece. Now, what has everyone fired up here now at this point? Because we’ve seen different trade rumors, we’ve seen different trade proposals thrown out there in recent weeks. But what’s going on here? Well, this guy Chris Davis, who has a lot of people confused because he’s gotten a lot of stuff right. I mean, I’ll say this first. Chris Davis, cuz I see some people and this is rumor, right? This is a rumor. This is not Wo, this is not Shams or WO doesn’t even exist anymore, but in the NBA space. I digress. He was right on the the Dear Fox stuff. He had a lot of rumors coming out around that point. Brought up some Brandon Ingram stuff to the Raptors early on. He’s gotten some hits. He’s been very quiet since the last trade deadline, but he came up from the the mud and uh ended up breaking down this report saying that the Toronto Raptors are quietly assessing trade possibilities for RJ Barrett. League sources state the Atlanta Hawks, the Sacramento Kings, the Chicago Bulls, and San Antonio Spurs are all showing early interest that can intensify as the draft approaches. So, this is uh interesting. Again, take it with a grain of salt. He is uh you know, he’s gotten some stuff right. He was pretty on the money with the Dear Fox stuff, different things heading into this year’s trade deadline. However, it’s uh you know, it’s it’s interesting, but it does fit some of the narratives. It does fit some of the discourse that have come out from other reporters. And that is an interesting list of teams. And frankly, if we look at these rosters, which we’ll go through now, not a lot of guys that really uh, you know, get me amped up, get me super juiced. So, first team is the Atlanta Hawks, who of course have Trey Young. I don’t imagine he’d be in an RJ Bear trade, but they do have some pieces. Clint Capella again is a free agent. Carvert’s a free agent. Look at the 25 26 season for uh, you know, the upcoming stats. The one player that’s on this roster that does seem intriguing to me is Aneka Akongu, who is a guy that plays at center position, has been a little bit limited by the Atlanta Hawks, frankly, because he’s been playing behind Clink Capella, has gotten some extra run this past season, and did show out with what he was able to do for this team. He came out and averaged 13.4 points per game, eight n 8.9 rebounds, and two assists for the Atlanta Hawks. You know, close to a block and a steal per night. has shown some potential out there as a three-point shooter shooting 35% on corner threes. But the one concern with Aneka Kongu is his height. He is definitely bold. He’s a center. He plays the center position, but is only 68. Now, he has longer arms. He has some strength. He has some different things. He can be a rim protector, but he is undersized out there at that center position. It’s a guy, you look at his upside, you look at his potential, and he just screams bam at a bio. That’s the one piece that everyone looks at a yaku is like, “Oh, okay. that’s the piece that he could become. And you know, the Toronto Raptors have been outspoken about how they do need a backup big man. Now, Kamal watch is a piece. Derrick Queen is a guy that have been brought up as potential draft pick for the Toronto Raptors to fill that center void. Of course, uh, you know, you have Shamsh out there in the G-League who could develop and, you know, fill that role. Maybe you could look at Congo as more of a four five rather than just a five. But regardless, feels like a guy that the Toronto Raptors would be interested in bringing in given their need at the backup center position. You do have Yakapurle and I feel like Anyaka Kongu wants to be in that role as a starter. So, while positionally it might make sense, everything that’s being brought up, I still, you know, looking at the stats, looking at the numbers, RJ Barrett is still the better player in my opinion. Still the guy I would rather have on my roster short-term and long-term the same age. I uh I don’t want to trade RJ Barrett for a deal surrounding NECA Kongu and frankly I don’t think the Atlanta Hawks are that eager to trade a Kong Woo here now at this point either. So doesn’t really make sense for either side. I mean Raich you’re probably not getting Terrence man not that uh intrigued in that contract right there averaging less than 10 points per game and then you Dyson Daniels is going to be off the table in one of these trade packages. Jaylen Johnson of course. I don’t see a lot of other pieces that have me juiced out there as an Atlanta Hawks or as Atlanta Hawks trade. Uh the other team has brought up which we’ll bring up next is uh basically the uh Sacramento Kings that was named in that report. If we trade RJ Barrett for Lavine for Demard Rosen, I would be very very sad. Already brought up the Demar Rosen discourse because all signs are indicating him getting dealt this summer. But I uh I won’t dive into that uh that avenue this uh in this video. Malik Monk’s interesting, but a lot of guys just on this team that are older than RJ Barrett, that have less potential than RJ Barrett, and frankly are less productive than RJ Barrett is right now. So, not that intrigued by these different moves. The one guy that is a little bit intrigued solely off the fact that Raptors almost got him multiple times out there in the past is Keegan Murray, who, you know, this season had a very down year by his uh you know, high potential standards. This is a guy that was untouchable, quote, in Pascal Seakum trade talks in the past. Now, Pascal Seakkum is a 1B option on a conference finals team out there in the Indiana Pacers. And Keegan Murray is uh not good on the team that didn’t make the playoffs. So, that is uh that he’s averaging 12.4 points per game, seven rebounds, 1.4 assists. You know, 34% from the three-point line, 38% from corner threes. Watched a lot of Kings games this year, and frankly, he is one of the most frustrating guys out there on uh by by Sacramento Kings fans. They are not happy with his offensive production. He’s extremely inconsistent. While he does bring the energy, the effort, rebounding, and on the wing position plays a lot of defense on a team that doesn’t play a ton of defense in the Sacramento Kings, Keegan Murray is not a player that again, we just compare the stats to RJ Barrett. RJ Barrett is what 100 days older, so basically the same age and already putting up better stats in essentially every statistical category, including three-point shooting. You know, Keegan Murray is supposed to be that three-point shooter. RJ Barrett shoots a higher percentage on overall three-point shooting as well as corner three. So, what are we really doing here with one of these trade packages? So, that’s that. The other two teams I’ll bring up, you know, in terms of the mix is uh the San Antonio Spurs. I mean, you’re not getting WBY, you’re not getting Castle, you’re not getting the top guys. I mean, Sohon, if it’s a money move, it’s a contract, he’d be an interesting guy to come back, but I don’t think he compliments his team very well with the Scotty Barnes and Brandon Ingram out there in the mix. you know, Kell Johnson, not that uh amped up for uh Deacell is pretty intriguing. You have him locked in long term, but again, RJ Barrett’s just the better player in my opinion. He’s younger. He’s the guy that you’d rather have out there on your team. So, the Spurs, that is that. And then the Bulls, literally no one on the Bulls that really just Kobe White could be cool, but really beyond that, trading RJ Barrett for any of these dudes would have me disappointed. So, that’s the reality of what’s going on. There’s, you know, the teams that are throwing out there. There are some interesting pieces. Maybe add some draft picks so it makes things cooler, but not stuff I am very, very stoked about. So, let me know what you guys think about all this in the comments section down below. Players who can’t defend like RJ Barrett always get exposed in deep playoff runs. He’s not a championship-caliber piece. Keep coping.
Ben , stop with sloppy barnes disclaimers…he does not have the highest potential…we need to trade him this summer
Yeah, if RJ Barret was from Ohio this would be a non issue. He's a volume chucker who is liked because he's a local kid. Doesn't fit well with our team since we added Ingram.
Trade this man Masai! I want a balanced, defense-first team, not guys hanging around for sentimental reasons.
RJ for Wemby (Take it or leave it).
All jokes aside, while I expect the Raptors to evaluate this core for next season, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did trade RJ away. Masai has already tried trading him away for Ingram, and the arrival of Ingram, plus the SG depth of Walter, Dick, and Agbaji may make RJ expendable.
Sickening… Seems like RJ is the victim of trade discussions because Masai decided to pay Scottie and IQ all that money..
Trading the most reliable and healthy player on our roster is a complete joke.
Not a fan of any of the packages mentioned?!!
RJ Barrett was a bucket ! Kept the team together when Barnes was injured. The same will happen when BI gets injuries next season. Find another way to deal with the fiances.
They should be trading Scottie
Don't go there Ben, a 6'8" centre NO,NO,NO , does not work !!
RJ is crap man lol
As a RJ Barrett fan, I want him far away from this circus, with a stable organization, and with a team/fan base that really appreciates his game. RJ and Wemby would be 🔥.
As much as Rj has improved hes not a player that the Raptors are going to extend and go over the salary cap. He's not good enough player to warrant that. I honestly would be fine with trading him if we are able to get better bench players that fit the teams need (back up center and back up wings)
Brandon Ingram has the worst sprained ankle in the history of sport
Some of these reporters just throw things out there just to stay relevant. They do it every summer.
It's just hear-say – when has MU ever made a trade when the public has said it was on the table? Dip-sh!t Scoto said "during conversations" with who? His mother? … then said "could", lots "could" happen. RJ over Grady, who showed some sign of being a potential starter but not enough yet. Trade IQ, then you can keep RJ. You have Shead, you draft KJ (who Darko will develop into star power) and you have SB or RJ who can bring the ball up the court, plus you have mid-level FA money and trade options (maybe Obagji for a PG). Lots "could" happen. Who is Cris Davis? Been in the NBA circle for 40 years, never heard of him. I mean its a great way to clicks, likes, subs, any kind of social media attention with these juicy "hear say" accusations. If RJ is traded it will be a biggie, a block buster.
Get rid of Masai his time is over. The Raptors are locked in the 6-10 seed for the next 4 yrs. Good chance this team doesn't have any all star caliber talent and they tanked for 9th place
The Spurs? Ok give us that 2nd overall pick for RJ
Pascal Siakam 1(b) hahahaha – he is a 3rd star on Indiana. Haliburton, then the bench, then Siakam or Turner, depends who going that night. PS is a beneficiary of a deep team like the one the 2019 Raps had, when he must be the (1) he comes up lame most of the time. In this play-offs alone he has played 13 games, and less then half of them he reached 20 pts or more – that's not ONE-B work. Stop watching his 39 point performance clips and making your decisions. On the season PS barely got 20 a game, that is at the most 2nd option work – but he's paid like a 1.
Here we have another example of Masai being a horrible and irresponsible team president. Overpaid Barnes when he simply can’t play on the offensive side of the basketball and is a liability in terms of his health. Same with IQ. Hopefully the president is gone as I’ve lost patience with him. This goes for all teams that are the Leafs and Raptors. Same with the Blue Jays although I’m not a big baseball fan
Unless it’s for giannis I don’t want to hear it. And even then I’d prefer to trade Scottie
Your never going to get back what you get from him he is 1 of 12 players averaging 20 5 5 the only reason to trade him is because we have a log jam at wing and he has the most value
Only trade RJ if he's included in the package for Giannis.
Just want a contender who appreciates this man
Pelicans are trying to rebuild through youth but preferred expiring contracts to Barrett. That tells you all you need to know about him. He’s a guy who puts up stats but has little impact on the game. Another DeRozan type. I think you totally over-rate him based on his stats. He’s a great story as a local kid, but if he’s playing a key role on any team they are not a contender.
