Is This The END For Kendre Miller In New Orleans?! | Saints RB Depth Chart
want to look at a little bit of New Orleans Saints because we’re having Ross Jackson on at 9:00 a.m. to talk some OTAAS. But Ross, obviously he does Locked on Saints, now writes for us here at Louisiana.net. He put out a thing yesterday, this article talking about OTAAS and some veterans returning for the Saints that are actually battling for roster spots. And the one he mentioned yesterday was none other than former LSU running back Clyde Overair. He says, “Look, there weren’t a ton of bright spots late in the 2024 season for the Saints.” Um, but one of those players that was a pretty good bright spot was Baton Rouge native Clyde Edwards. He said the LSU Tiger was given a chance uh to play for his home state. Now, he was resigned this off season after having, you know, a decent finish about as good as you could behind that offensive line on that offense a year ago. And he’ll battle for a spot in this running back room. And when Ross breaks down why Clyde Edwards Aair has a solid chance, he talks, “Look, aside from Alvin Chimera, Clyde Edwards is the most experienced player in this position room. He’s going into his sixth NFL season. If you remember, Clyde was a 2020 firstround pick for the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s actually the very last pick in the first round.” The Chiefs, Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, they know a little bit about offense and you know, however you feel about Clyde Helair’s career at this point. They selected Clyde at running back over guys like Jonathan Taylor, JK Dobbins. I mean, there were a that was a really solid running back class. Clad Edward was the first running back to go. That’s what the Kansas City Chiefs thought of him. I trust the opinion of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid when it comes to offense. He was a solid pass blocker so far in his NFL career. He’s been able to catch the ball out of the back field. He could be a three down contributor in the right scheme. He’s got flexibility to his game. He’s got the maturity just mentioned. He’s the second most experienced guy in this backfield now going into his sixth NFL season. And look, you know, Clyde’s had an up and down NFL career. Had a pretty good rookie year. Had a lot of injuries to deal with. The Chiefs ultimately released him before he landed here last year late in the season with the New Orleans Saints. But look, when you look at the depth of this running back room, you can obviously pencil in Alvin Chimera as RB1. You no longer have Jordan men. So really, your returners from a year ago, Alvin Chimera, Clyde Edwards, and Kre Miller, who has shown no ability to stay healthy. And look, even when Kendra has been healthy, I mean, he’s been a solid player, but just look at look at what he’s done. In two years, he has 80 carries, 304 yards, two touchdowns. That’s that that’s it. All that came in 14 games over two years, two starts. I mean, that’s that’s not getting it done. It’s you you need more 3.8 yards per attempt as well. So again, even when Kendra Miller’s been on the field, he hasn’t exactly lit up the stat sheet. The young guys are exciting though. You were able to get Devin Neil in the sixth round of this NFL draft. We had talked about it a lot on this show about, you know, the deepest positions going into this 2025 NFL draft. My answer was always pretty steady, the running back position. I mean, look at what Cam Scataboo did in the college football playoff. Like any other year, that guy’s a top two round pick. What’s Scataboo go? Round four. You got Devin Neil in round six. Devin Neil, the all-time leading rusher for the Kansas Jay-Hawks. You look at what Devin Neil did in college in his four-year career. 760 carries, 4,343 yards, 49 rushing touchdowns. Oh, and that’s on a 5.7 yards per carry average. That’s real production right there. That’s real production right there. also 700 yardds receiving in four years. So, he can catch the ball out of the back field, 88.6 yards per game. And that’s on a Kansas offense that wasn’t exactly great. I mean, at times teams are keying in on him cuz yeah, you had Jaylen Daniels, you had Jason Bean, but like neither of those Jaylen Daniels has had so many issues. He he never could stay healthy. That’s the only reason we know who Jason Bean was was because he was J uh Jaylen Daniels’s backup for two seasons. Devin Neil was that offense and he was incredible. Three years in a row, 2022, 1,090 yards, nine touchdowns. 2023, 12,8 touchdowns. What does he do with that? He follows it up the exact same. 16 touchdowns again in 2024. I think Devin Neil is the real deal. I mean, he’s a guy that’s 5’11, he’s 210 lbs. He has the size to play right away. I like Deon Neil. And I think the longer OTAAS goes on offseason workout, you know, when you get into preseason camp, Deon Neil is going to continue to rise up that board. I don’t think there’s any question that he is going to pass up Kendra Miller. I’m not even sure Kendrey Miller makes this team because don’t sleep on Marcus Yarns, the undrafted free agent, the rookie out of Delaware. You know, we we’ve seen Delaware in the past produce some NFL players, none bigger than Joe Flacco, of course, who’s won a Super Bowl. Devin Neil, I mean, um, Marcus Yarns, 5’11, hovering around 200 pounds, very similar to, uh, Devin Neil. But you look at what he did last season at Delaware for the Blue Hens. He led the team with 844 rushing yards and six touchdowns. But he also had 297 yards receiving and five touchdowns. He’s a guy that doesn’t have a lot of tread on the tire. He has the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Could he potentially be a third downp passcatching back? Now, I know in his career, Alvin Chimera has been that every down back on third down in passing situations. Alvin Chimera has been that guy, but Chimera is not getting any younger. And you’re going to need somebody to spell Alvin Chimera, to give Chimera a breather. I think on early downs, it’s Devin Neil. No question about it. He is that pure runner running back that you need. But if you need a guy out of the backfield, I mean, Marcus Yarns did a really nice job of catching the ball out of the back field in college. And again, that’s that’s multiple seasons. I mentioned that 844 yards rushing, 297 receiving. In 2023, he was even better. 939 yards rushing, 15 touchdowns, also 300 yards receiving out of the back field. This is a guy that he is an allpurpose back. He can do a little bit of everything for you. If Marcus Jarns can pass block as well as get out of the back field and catch passes, Marcus Jarns is going to make this team. Now, we’re going to see how he performs in preeason, what the rest of the offseason looks like, what the OTAAS look like. When Ross hops on with us at 9:00 a.m., I’m going to ask him about Deon Neil and Marcus Jones. I’m not sure Kendrey Miller makes this team because I don’t know about you guys, I trust Clyde Edair more than I do Kendra Miller. And sure, Clyde Edward has had injury concerns, but we’ve at least seen what he can do. He’s been productive. He’s played in big-time games with the Kansas City Chiefs. You can’t really say that about Kendra Miller. And I just laid it out. 14 games in two years, 300 yards rushing, two touchdowns. That is what Kre Miller has given you as a New Orleans Saint. And that’s a guy who’s a third round draft pick. Keep in mind, this coaching staff did not draft Kre Miller. What they did do was draft Devin Neil and they signed Marcus Jarns in the offseason and they wanted to bring back Clyde Edwards. Kendre Miller is still in his rookie deal. It’s one of those things where it’s like you brought in Clyde Yarn’s Devin Neil. Kendre Miller was just kind of here when he got here. Me and Jordan Jordan we were talking about this not long ago and you and I were saying, “Oh, we don’t know if Kre Miller or Jordan Mims makes this team.” They already got rid of Jordan Mims. They’re already one down. Like, do you think Kendra Miller makes this team? Cuz I don’t. All right. So, outside looking in, obviously not because there is zero production of Kendra Miller and you’ve been you’ve been wanting this so bad, not only for him to be on the field, but you’ve been looking for that guy to take that pressure off AK. Like that was the whole point of Kendrick Miller was to come in and to relate. Yeah. And literally just to alleviate the pressure off AK. We did not ask in Kendrick Miller to come in and be the guy. So, I think the only universe that there’s a way that KJ Miller makes this roster the first preseason game, he has to go off like it has to be like a 50 yard or somebody like Neil or Clyde somebody gets hurt, you know, injuries, you know, but I’m just talking like, you know, performance-wise. I feel like the only way that Kendrick Miller can really save himself on this Saints team this year is that either the first two preseason games, he has to explode. Like, I’m talking like a 50 yard run, like something that the coach is like, “Oh, we can’t teach this.” like this is something that you saw in something the other guys don’t have. Yeah. That they don’t have like the the burst and pop you seen at TCU. Only way possible. Other than that, I think his bags are already packed. Well, that that’s kind of exactly what I was getting at with these other two guys, right? You were talking about something that the other guys don’t have. Yeah. Marcus Jarns can catch the ball out of the back field, at least in college, probably better than anybody you currently have on your team. Devin Neil, he’s got the explosiveness out of the back field. You saw the yards per carry in college. You saw the production. Clyde, former first round pick. He had production in college. Like Kendra Miller is behind the eightball on all three of those players. Like right now you have five running backs on the roster. I’m putting Kendre Miller fifth. You got Chimera and Claude Edwards who have been there. They’re veterans. You got Jordan Deon Neil who’s going to make this team. And I think if Marcus Jarns outperforms Kre Miller in preseason camp, like this staff did not draft Kre Miller. I’ll keep going back to that. And then look, we always criticize Dennis Allen for pretty much everything and rightfully so. I mean, you remember the press conferences with Dennis Allen, right? It was a whole lot of nothing. He never gave you anything. The only time Dennis Allen ever got fired up was when he was criticizing Kendra Miller. I mean, we we had talked about it multiple times and and played the clips here over and over of Dennis Allen being asked, “Hey, when’s Kendre Miller being healthy?” And Dennis Allen’s answer was pretty much quite simply, “I don’t know. We don’t really know what’s wrong with it.” So, this is more than just an injury thing. It kind of seems like a miscommunication between him and the New Orleans Saints. Hey. Um, didn’t Dennis Allen, wasn’t Dennis Allen the one that was like you can’t make the team in the tub or something like that when you’re talking about Kendrick Miller? Like never. That was about Dennis Allen. He never threw his players under the bus ever. Well, unless you unless you uh score on the Falcons. Unless you score on the Unless you score the Falcons, but he did to Kendra Miller. Oh, yeah. That’s the only player. That tells me a lot about Kendrick Miller. No, look, I don’t know Kendra Miller. I’m not in that front office. Kre might be a great teammate. Dennis Allen didn’t think he was. And now you bring in a new staff of these offensive-minded guys. I mean, look at look at your offensive staff. Doug Nosmeer, Kell Moore is your offense, your de facto offensive coordinator, who’s also your head coach. Like, these guys know offense. They know how to score points. If Kendrick Miller is not producing in the preseason, Kendre Miller is not going to make this team. But, you know, the scariest thing though, that really goes back to your your main point. You’re talking about who drafted him. Dennis Allen drafted this man and he threw him under the bus. That’s the biggest red flag. It don’t get a bigger a bigger red flag than and that’s after two years because you know what they say it shouldn’t be this way but the higher draft pick you are the longer you have leash Miller’s a third round pick literally and Dennis Allen was done with him halfway through his second season. That’s scary. And it’s because he has started two games. He’s only played in 14. He’s averaging 3.8 yards per carry. 304 yards rushing and two touchdowns. That is what third round pick Kendre Miller has given you in two seasons. That’s crazy. I’m not saying the guy’s not talented. I think he is. We saw it at TCU. But there’s some sort of disconnect whether it’s injuries, whether it’s a learning curve in the NFL. There is something. And if Kendra Miller doesn’t get it together, he’s going to get passed by Devin Neil. He’s going to get passed by Clair and he’s going to get passed by Marcus Jarns and he’s not going to make this team. Now, we’ll see what happens. Really, you have Alvin Chimera and a giant question mark behind that. But I actually like the depth behind Alvin Chimera if these guys could stay healthy.

Yes (answer to the thumbnail question)
Not if he stay Healthy. The Talent is There
I agree …Marcus Yarns looks really good….we got a steal there.
There's no saving Kendre…he is injury prone …he's a great RB when he's healthy…but….he's always hurt….we have enough of that already …kick rocks
Yes get him out of here
I think y'all crazy kendre was in Allens doghouse Miller is the best back behind alvin and if you cant see that you shouldn't be posting BS WHO DAT! horrible content!
y'all so off if y'all think Moore cares who drafted who he will keep talent period come on how bout content on the offence we will run or on the Defence philosophy ?
Kendre Miller is the 2nd best RB on this roster, he just needs to stay health. If he does we have one the best RB rooms in the NFL
Wrong. Kendre is most talented back behind Kamara by far. New coaches will get it out of him.
2 years only 14 games and 2 tuddies?
Wasting a roster spot
Yeah bro just yapping wym you cant pencil in Ak As RB1
Kendre is only like 22 years old, is the most explosive so has the most upside. Whether he taps into it, we'll see. But him, Neal, Yarns could all make the team behind AK.
You can never have too many running backs. Remember the year of the Superbowl when several running backs got hurt. It depends on the play of the O line and how good it can be. It's Miller's job to lose. These young guys are hungry especially the undrafted ones. This season will come down to total domination in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Clyde and kendre fighting it out in my opinion.
Go get cfl rb and wr with Michael Thomas wr
man idc miller has a high ass ceiling still. new coaching new medical staff just give this guy another chance under a normal team under a normal medical staff
AK, Devin Neal and Yarns.
No hate towards Kendre, just bad blood with the ones who took him before Spears.
Should be. Trade him
I think Kendre stays relatively healthy this year, I also think it goes without saying he will be productive if that is in fact the case.
