What’s happening? What’s happening? What is happening? I’m your man OG Truth with a two. Hurts with a Z coming at you. We going to talk with We going to talk a little NBA basketball. Uh, most notably, we’re going to talk a little bit about the unbattled Trey Young with the Atlanta Hawks. Uh, first thing I want everybody to do, make sure you hit them buttons, man. Make sure you you like me, share me, subscribe to me, all that good stuff there. Uh, make sure you show me show me love. What’s up there, Keshan? What’s happening? AT37 or what’s Oh, excuse me. A137. My bad. My bad. What’s happening with What’s happening with you, man? Make sure we hit them buttons, man. Um, we gonna talk a little Trey Young tonight, man. Uh, oh boy. Uh so apparently um as I uh share this out to my other platforms, y’all y’all bear with me on this one right here. Um, apparently something was a discussion was had I guess it happened on um first take or something during uh on ESPN and it was um a few guys on the panel I know was Perk on the panel and one of the Morris twins and and and Um, I guess one of the Morris twins, he had a take on Trey Young that wasn’t favorable um, by um, Hawks fan standards. There’s a lot of Hawks fans that’s not happy with um the Morris Twin and his uh take on Trey Young. Now, let’s go into this. Let’s dive off into this. Sometimes we’ll allow ourselves to uh get caught up in Mucho Grande. What’s going on? What’s going on with everybody out there? Dar, what’s going on man? Happy Tuesday everybody. Uh King Freay, what’s going on? Pamela, what’s going on? Pam, what’s happening? Um, sometimes y’all, we get a little too caught up into what another mother could say. Um, you know, I knew what Marcus Morris was saying. I knew what he meant. And I don’t think I think everybody first of all Perk did some old slick [ __ ] He did some shiny sharp [ __ ] He kind of caught he kind of caught Morris off guard with the question. So he answered it, but he tried not to answer it. He tried not to answer it to make it look like he was hating on Trey. But of course, that’s how it came across that he was that he was hating on Trey. Now, uh, he pretty much said Trey just just started passing basketball. I think that came across wrong. Um, and people kind of might might read a little bit might might take that how they choose to take it. Now, you can interpret [ __ ] however you want to interpret it. Uh, like looking at what uh uh Keshan said, Marcus Marcus said Trey was never a pass first guard and always look to shoot threes. And there’s kind of some truth to that. Uh we all know over the past three plus years, Trey is top three and this uh uh um in assists. This year in assists per game, he led the league in assists per game. So, it’s obvious that he passes the ball, but I think more Morris more so was um speaking on how Trey passes the ball uh in terms of um the flow of the game and you know how he gets his assist. Um, if you’re a Hawks fan and you watch Trey, we already know that over the past seven years, he’s been the the the the primary scoring option for the Hawks. There have been times where he’s been the primary scoring option and he, for lack of a better term, play uh Till, what’s going on? A lot of people view what Trey does is playing Hero Ball. Um, Hero Ball only becomes bad when it affects the outcome of the game in a negative light for your team. Sometimes hero ball is necessary when the rest of your team is laying an egg and can’t nobody hit the side of a barn. Um, people going to play hero ball or try to do whatever they do. Put, you know, it all it’s it’s all about how you want to view it, you know. You know, some people view like putting a team on your back. Sometimes you got to put a team on your back. That might be viewed as hero ball. Um, a lot of times at me watching Trey over the years, a lot of his assists happen rarely. The majority of Trey’s assist happens late in the shot clock. If the shot clock is going down, if it’s not a lob, if I if it’s not a lob that leads to a dunk or something like that, the majority of his assists happen late in the shot shot clock. Meaning, uh, Trey, I’mma give a hot take and I want somebody to challenge me on this take. I’mma give a hot take. Here’s gonna be here’s my hot take right here. I want somebody to challenge me on this take and prove me wrong. Since Trey been in the league, he is one of the most ball dominant guys in the history of the NBA. When he is on the floor, somebody challenge me on that take. Um and and and with him being like that, being one of the most ball dominant guys out there like that, you’re going to get assist. uh because it’s a ser one of the main issues that a lot of Hawks fans have when it comes to Trey because nobody is uh uh very few people is denying his offensive um bag that he got. Um he’s a guy who’s a walking 25 and 10. Um in this case this year he was 25 close to 26 and 11 and a half assists. A game which led uh um um that’s a good question. That’s what I’m saying. I need somebody to to to to to find something concrete on that. [Music] um find something concrete on that to to uh disprove that. I think Trey holds the ball in his hand more than anybody else in the history of the league per possession. Uh okay, Keshan say I disagree because co Kobe rarely pass the ball. I I don’t think Kobe held the ball had the ball more than Kobe uh uh Trey. I mean, for one, Kobe Kobe wasn’t the point guard. He was the He was the offguard, even though he had the ball in his hand. In his hand a lot. I need somebody to find me something concrete. Find me um find me something factual. You all you analytics guys on here um to refute that. Um, there’s been a lot being made, especially during these playoffs, about ball dominance and and and and holding on to the ball. You know, a lot of people a lot of people right now are comparing Trey’s game to uh Jaylen Bronson’s game um because they are small uh quote unquote small guards. Um, Trey is with Trey being 61. Uh, to me, I don’t know what type I don’t know what they two different kind of smalls. Uh, Jaylen’s 6’2 with a six uh five wingspan. He’s Jaden 6’2 with a 65 wing or a 6’4 wingspan and he weighs 190 pounds. Trey is 61 with a 63 or 64 wingspan. It’s either 6’4 or 65 with Jaylen and 63 64 with Trey. And Trey weighs 163. The 163 part is uh um Okay. All right. Russell Westbrook and Oscar Robinson per possession from AI. Okay. All right. So, those are two guys that refute that that you can put in front of to refute what I said. Um, now with that being refuted, I I I it’d be hard to say he’s not top five or maybe top 10, but nevertheless, the point is Trey holds the ball a lot per possession with the Atlanta Hawks. Is it within the game plan? Only his coaches and teammates know that. But Trey keeps the ball in his hand a lot, which means he’s going to be uh 65 to 70% of the Hawks offense is going to be through him, whether he is him scoring or assisting the basketball because nobody else is able to get assists uh when he’s on the floor. Not nobody else. Rarely will somebody be able to get an assist when he’s on the floor because Trey has not been known. This is I’m trying to keep this to make for me bashing or busting on Trey, but if you watch the Hawks, you’ll know that Trey don’t swing the ball that much in the offense. It’s like um if he’s not Hey, if if he’s on a fast break and if he’s if he’s on a fast break and nobody’s running with him right there, he’s stopping and pulling that three. Um, if he can’t get to the hole, if he can’t get to the hole, right? Then he goes into setting up the offense and then, you know, it’s pick and roll, pick and roll, maybe a lob or if he can get to the hole, he’ll try to, you know, do his what they call foul baiting or whatever. or um and then if he’s bottled up, he’ll get someone he’ll get he’ll get the ball to someone for a score or for to scoreing the basketball late in the shot clock. That’s just sums up Trey Trey Young’s game. Some people like it, some people dislike it. I have what I I’m somewhere in the middle. Um, of course, if you winning, you know, you can look past it. Um, okay. According to Stat Muse, Luca Dun, you know, y’all know how I feel about that stat music, but right now that’s something. Uh, Luca Dunie had the most possessions per game in NBA history with Allan Iverson second and Trey Young Trey Young third. So, he’s top three. Uh, and that puts um only Luca and AI. Um, at any rate, it’s no secret that Trey’s ball dominant. So when you go back to what Marcus Morris said or whichever one of the Morris wins, whe was it was Marcus or Marquee, um I think what he meant when he said Trey just now started passing the ball. Well, it’s it came out that over the over the summer last year that the Hawks brass may have uh may have discussed had a discussion. I wasn’t there for no discussion. So, I’m just assuming speculating on this right here. If I don’t tell you, if I don’t tell you, you can uh uh um you can fact check me. If I don’t say you can fact check me, that means I’m not sure. Um that they may have had a discussion with Trey about cutting down on his shot attempts. uh which technically he did cut down on his you know I think a lot of fans got a problem with the the efficiency uh on the logo threes is if his official logo threes are are not good abysmal awful whatever you want to put it um so I think when Marcus was speaking like I said I think Uh, Perk caught him off guard. I mean, it’s abundantly clear that Perk did catch him off guard. [Music] Um, he said that. Now, here is my issue with Trey. Um, why are you even getting online responding to that? It’s certain things that you just, you know, how when we on social media, Facebook, Instagram, whatever, Tik Tok, Twitter or X, whatever, sometimes when they said just, you know, you probably want to just let that one slide or something. Me and me and one of my buddies, Rick Arthur, we tag each other head off about scrolling by Southside. Okay. Yeah, I mean pretty much. I mean, you know, if it’s if it’s his game, it’s his game. But sometime you just have to uh you know, um let that [ __ ] ride, man. Because if you go back and watch because, you know, people are saying that first of all, you can’t tell Marcus Morris to do his do his research. He’s out there on the [ __ ] floor with him. So, you can’t tell him to do his research. He ain’t got to go research yet. He’s been out there on the floor with him for multiple several days. Him and his brother. Okay. So, you you know, telling him to do research. No. Uhuh. You can’t tell him to do research because he don’t have to. Um, Trey Daddy, here go Trey. Here come Trey Daddy. Don’t listen. Get stay your ass off social media. Ray, we already know that you think the whole world hates your son. Stop acting like Trey is a little boy. I’m calling out Ray Young. Trey ain’t a little boy no more. Trey’s a grown ass man. 26 to 27 years old, super rich with a wife and two kids. We have to stop babying him. All right. Furthermore, if you if you are a superstar, criticism comes with being a superstar. Somebody need to also let LeBron James fans know that because he’s been in the league for 22 [ __ ] years and you you can’t say [ __ ] about him. And if you do say something about him, you get bombarded with a whole bunch of frivolous [ __ ] But criticism comes with being the star. If you can’t take it, then you you know you need to get out of the game. In any sport, criticism comes with being the star. So you need to get your ass in the weight room and add on to that 163 like there are kids that are 14 and 15 years old. Trey same height play his position and weigh more than him. Get your ass in the weight room and stay your ass off out off social media. I can say that as a Hawks fan. Logo 3 might be excited. Uh ATL sports media might be excited exciting to watch. Oh [ __ ] Hold on. Okay. Okay. I just hit a damn button. My fault. But uh Local 3 might be exciting to watch as a fan, but it’s horrible from a basketball perspective. I I mean, I get the excitement. You know what I mean? You know, and today’s fan want to be entertained. I understand that. I completely get it. I I you know I’m not just that old school where I’m just turning a blind eye and oblivious to it. But I don’t give a [ __ ] about excitement when when when four years straight now our team they play four years straight play in and it’s h and these four years straight being a playin um the leader of this team of the de facto leader of this team or face of this franchise has been Trey Young. It hasn’t been all bad. Trey has had spectacular moments with the w with the Hawks. Um, but he’s entering year eight right now. Um, and from the looks of it, the Hawks going to probably um, make him try to make him a Hawk for life. A lot of us don’t want that. I know I don’t, but I’ll deal with it because I’m a fan of a fan of the team. Um, he got it’s time to extend him. I think the Hawks have until July, excuse me, till June the 30th of next year to extend him. Um, more than likely they’re going to try to offer him an extension this year. um just to test the waters. Um he’s eligible to get four years 228 which would make it fit would make it would which would give him a after his uh he still got currently still got two years um left on his deal. So, um, well, hold on. Wait, wait, wait. He’s entering year three of his deal. When when this when when this year is up, he’ll have two years left. And he he will be eligible to opt out after June the 30th, which tells me that July the 1st is the new physical year in the NBA. So, um, he’s making 43 now. He got his first his first deal was his first deal was five years to 12. Had he made a AllNBA team or something like that, he could have got he could have been eligible for a super max or something uh on some five years and damn [ __ ] three 40 or some [ __ ] like that. I mean some some incredible type [ __ ] where he get down there 65 million a year. Um but but right now he’s he can get up to 57 million a year which will give him a $14 million a year raise after his uh current contract is up. people. Uh, so you ask the question, is he worth a $14 million a year raise? One thing I try not to do is get in the people’s pockets, wallets, or purses or whatever they do with their money, but I will speak on the salary cap of the team. Uh, are we willing as a team to shell out uh have $57 million coming off one person from the salary cap and we can’t get past a play in right now. We can’t right now we can’t even get past the playin. We got two years out the back door of a playin. And no, no, we’re not blaming Trey for that. I’m not blaming Trey for for not getting past the playin. But if you not making enough difference to get us past the playin, am I going to take up am I going to add 14 more million dollars to the salary cap? I don’t care about what what goes in his pocket. But on the flip side, you got to consider that he’s one of the top assist guys in the league. So I mean, uh, and a lot of people get paid off their numbers. So, I mean, I’m pretty sure the Hawks are going to going to wait until uh the dust clears as far as who who wins it all. Um, I don’t know right now what to think. Uh, a lot of Hawks fans. Let me let me let me uh let me let me let me read Keshan. My only knock on Trey is that is that he never was was a vocal leader until now. I like the way he encouraged Daniel’s uh recent shoo at Vit. Um we we have two first round picks and a good amount of cat room uh this year. Even though I won’t trade here, whatever we do. Okay. All right. Um, it’s all about the the the the direction that the organizations going in. They have made a few changes within the front office. They they let go. They let they I’m still understanding not not I’m asking a question like what was the Ledger Field hiring for? You brought him in here and the man wasn’t on a job two years and you fired him. He was right on a job right at two years and you fired him. You brought him in here. You brought him in here because you was so uh you were so hellbent on [ __ ] on the last guy, Travis Slink. You [ __ ] on him. You brought you brought him in here. Um and I I don’t tell me we blaming the Jonte Murray fiasco trade on uh Landry Fields. I I I can’t go for that. Hulks brass, but he was the he was the he’s the GM. Kyle Corby, the sister GM, and pretty much I guess he was the I guess he was just the the just we didn’t have a president, but we did have Nick Wrestler up there [ __ ] up [ __ ] you know? He had no business up there in office anyway. He the owner son just walking around [ __ ] up [ __ ] So, uh, it looks like he’s been the owner son has been demoted. He’s still around, but he’s been demoted. We fire Landry Fields. And then what we do, which to me is ass backwards, is instead you you don’t have a uh general manager, you don’t have a president. So, you promote a guy that’s within the organization to general manager. You leave your assistant general manager as an assistant general manager and you have yet to hire a president. Now they have an issue trying to hire a president. You know why? I’m not I’m not about to sign on for a job and I got somebody already sitting there in the bushes to report back my every [ __ ] move to the owner or whatever the case. a [ __ ] that that’s technically up under me and he’s there to replace me. Watch how I I guess he need to learn on the job. Um, watch how I do only to replace me. So, um, they’ve had a few candidates. They was toying around with Elton Bran. Elton Bran with Elton Bran I guess he saw through the [ __ ] and he he’d rather stay and [ __ ] with that train wreck in Philly than to come here. I’ve been hearing some noise about uh Giannis’s agent or something like that. Um I don’t know anything about him. I don’t know what’s up with that. We also been hearing some noise about the the guy up in Toronto um that come from the Toronto organization who helped put that ch that one championship run together for the Raptors. I will stay on this until the Hawks do what they supposed to do. We need some stability in the front office before we can before we can make stable moves when it comes to the roster. You ain’t got no goddamn stability in the front office. It doesn’t matter what’s going on with the roster. So, we need to get somebody in there and hire we need to hire a [ __ ] president. And I’m to the point, like I said, you know, hey, if the guy who’s the current general manager, if you got to bump him on up the president and tell Kyle Cor he got to get up off his ass in that and get up off his ass instead of just having a title. And yeah, bro, you f to be a GM now. You done spent two years at the assistant GM, you should be ready to be a GM now. If not, get his ass up out of here. See, they brought Kyle Cory in. I already know why they brought Kyle Corby in. He’s a familiar face. He’s He’s very He’s one of the most popular Hulks in recent history. So, I mean, and you know, that’s the guy who you sitting to talk to talk to the prospects. Kyle Cor. That’s what he’s being used as. That’s the guy you go sit and talk to the prospect. Oh, that’s Kyle Corin right there. My dad loved you. This that man. [ __ ] that. Let’s get some stability within within the front office. like Southside uh uh just alluded to, we got two first round picks, no second round picks this year. We got a lot of money going out. We got a lot of uh uh we don’t have too much money coming in right now. Um I haven’t looked at the roster, but I know um um we got a lot of unrestricted free agents. We got a lot of guys that’s got got a lot of guys that got options. And if you got a lot of guys that are free agents that you may have to let walk, you going to need bodies. you mean you going to need picks. So, it’s it’s crucial that they hit right on these two picks right here. Uh I know we thin at center. Um I I know at least one of these picks is going to be a big um you know the guys in the chat, they’ve been looking at certain prospects. I’ve been hearing a lot about this kid uh from China or or Japan, kid named Yang. Um, right now, uh, the highest grade I’ve seen him is is is is early second round. Uh, and we don’t have a second round pick. Um, maybe that’s somebody who you may reach for at 22. Um, I’ve been hearing a lot about uh majority of the mock drafts got uh Georgia center asa Newell who will probably be most who probably uh play more power forward or or in certain situations where you go go small, you can put him at center. A lot of um there’s been a lot of buzz about him going to the Hawks at 13. I’ve seen him in a lot of mock drafts. He’s one of my personal favorites or not because he went to Georgia because I feel like that with his skill set, what he does can fit what we got going on right now. Um um a guy that sparked my interest is a 6’8 point guard kid from Russia out of um plays at played at BYU. I think his name is Demon something Demen. Uh, Eigor, Eigor Deming or something like that. Um, I watched a little bit of his game. Um, I like his list. I like his athleticism. Uh, not a great shooter. Uh, but right now, in the event that the Hawks bungee jump, go out there and make a make make a make a splash, make a move to to move Trey to another organization, uh um he could be an option. Now, something that I noticed that a lot of Hawks fans are saying is the Hawks need point guards. How? Um I’m looking at four right now. that that was under contract or at least or at least two-way a two-way guy under contract. You had Kobe Buffkin who who who um he’s been a disappointment to me because he can’t stay healthy, but right now he’s still technically on the roster. He’s a first round pick. You got the jurist guy who was in College Park who they training. I mean I mean I mean they developing him is he that are they developing him to be the next point guard? I don’t know. You got a 6’8 Vic Cree. And yes, Vic Creechie is listed as a point guard. He’s not listed as a [ __ ] forward. He’s listed as a point guard. Someone I heard someone say he’s a connecting forward. That’s a croc of [ __ ] No, he’s a point guard. And you and you got the Wallace You got the Wallace kid um who had damn near 20 assists in our last game of the season. And I don’t care what what type of competition it was against. If you play in a professional game and you get damn near 20 assists, uh, that’s that that’s a decent comp compliment. Um, um, Ke, that’s his name. Court, a lot of people saying Kobe is more of a shoot more of a shooting guard. Maybe so. Uh, but we know he’s listed as a point guard. Uh, I just have to go off of what they’re they’re listed. So, when I hear people say the Hawks need point guard for what, you know, the Hawks need a backup point, they don’t they don’t they got one there now. They got one or two guys there now that can play backup point guard. So, I mean, some pe I think some of our fans, they just get caught once once they get their mind one uh one track on this is how I see it. This is how I view it. Then then that’s what it is. The Hawks don’t need a backup point guard. They don’t. They got him there right now. That’s with Trey. Hell, that’s without pray because I think one of those guys will be able to step in and start. That’s another story. You know, it ain’t nothing I’m going to go into a long drawn out debate about because because the minute you mention that, you hear you hear people say, “Well, how we going to replace 25 and 10?” We can replace that. We can because honestly not I can’t look at what goes on with other teams situation. We don’t need 25 points out our point guard just so happen we getting it but we don’t. Those points can be distributed some of those points can be distributed amongst others in the lineup given guys are healthy. Um, okay. Yeah. Uh, I’m giving guys a healthy I’m sorry, I got distracted on something. Let’s go to this part about and it’s just something that I wanted to uh to touch on. Um, it’s a lot of Hawks fans that feels as if though Trey Young doesn’t have enough Trey needs more help. Now, just today, a lot of fans are are, you know, like [ __ ] crashing out about this [ __ ] that was on ESPN with with the Mars Twin and and with Perk uh Perk with his instigating ass. I don’t even know why why y’all should have been get y’all [ __ ] been out of shape when y’all already know that was that was abundant. It was abundantly clear that Perk was was what was was gaslighting. Um I heard a lot of people saying, “What do you mean he just started passing? He averaging he he’s one of the top assist guys in basketball.” Blah, blah, blah. You know, this that and the third. Okay. Okay. All right. Well, keep that in mind the next time you say he don’t need no help. I I mean I mean keep that in mind when the next time you said Trey needs help because if you if you listen if a guy leads the league in assist and been top three guys in assists for three or four years running and and and three out of the last four years your offense been a been top 10 in points per game. Uh and then and then to put the cherry on top of it, you was in the starting lineup with two guys. One guy what made all made made all rookie first team and another guy made the all defensive first team. Back to you leading the league in and assist and total assist. That that’s help, bro. That’s help. Uh JJ going down. Um I mean you know you always get put behind a eight bar when you have an injury injury but look here man next man up. Uh that when JJ went down this year the Hawks were currently in uh on a fourame losing streak. When JJ went down, the Hawks was in the middle of a was in game four of a four of of an eightgame losing streak when JJ went down. So, I mean, we can say losing JJ played a part and probably so to a degree, but we was on a four-ame losing streak when JJ went down. JJ needs to stay healthy. He’s gotten He’s gotten his money. He need to stay healthy. Three two three three of his four seasons here, he hasn’t finished due to injury. That can’t continue. Um, I like JJ, but that’s just what it is. Um, I think we probably should have kept Hunter. Uh, I get it. We traded him away, but when he got to Cleveland, he was averaging 19 points off the bench for us here. We finally found his [Music] role and then we trade him. Now, people want to talk about his injury situation. Well, don’t be critical of Hunter being injured, but you want to use Jaylen Johnson’s injury as an excuse. Just that’s just my take on that. um consistent scores. Elaborate on that. I mean, because it’s hard to get a level of consistency when you got a ball dominant guard. So, It’s got to be some type of give and take. I like Harris Levert as well. Uh that that’s that’s a guy I recommend that they bring back. He’s a guy that’s uh uh I think he’s unrestricted. Um I think the other two guys we brought in, they they here for another year, man. And uh Yang. I’m cool with Man, we can let Yang walk. I mean, Yang, he can score the basketball, but he’s, you know, his defensive liability is just I can’t do it. Uh, I can find a guy that can come off the bench and give me 15 to 18 off the bench and give me a teaspoon of defense at least. At least Boie gave us a teaspoon of defense. He wasn’t that great on defense and yeah uh Bogey was having off here with us but in his in his when when when when Bogey had it going at least Bogi would give us a teaspoon the defense. Um I got to like I said I got to look at everybody else. Um you know I don’t know I do that [ __ ] the man. Somebody goddamn post his goddamn L. Um, I’m about to get off here, Dean. Goddamn. Um, hold on. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Michael Kev, if y’all on here, post the damn link. Wait a minute. You know, I had to refer to y’all on this type [ __ ] I had to refer to y’all on this type [ __ ] If you want to goddamn uh uh if you want to uh crank if you want to crank it up and and and and and just pick it back off of this when I get when I get off of here, De Man, when you start if you want to crank up a show, I’m uh I’m I’mma get out of here within the next 10 minutes so you can go on and do your thing where we won’t be crossing over with each other. Um this going to be an interesting off season with the Hawks. Uh, we got a lot of money. I don’t know, man. I’m just saying. When I take a chance on Cam Reddish, I mean, I ain’t against it, but that same guy got to ask to be traded from here, too. Now, but I ain’t against it. I ain’t against it. House going to need bodies because let’s hypothetically say, it’s funny because uh uh uh me and De Man, we’ve been raising hell with each other going back and forth about what Trey’s going to get. De Man thinks Trey’s g thinks that Trey gonna get that uh 57 million year. I I think he’s not going to get it. But but if he do get it, if Trey do get that $57 million a year, we going we going to have to get we going [ __ ] We going to we might let a couple guys walk. Uh well, his 57 million will start for a couple years anyway. But we going to need bodies. 57 million or put Trey in the top somewhere in the top 10 um salary wise. I’m not an analytics guy. I’m not a salary cap guy, nothing like that. I just kind of do basic math a little bit. Um, I leave that up to guys like Dean and and and Clifton and Brandon them and and Foot them and you know, you know, shout out, you know, shout out to everybody in my Hawks groups and and my in my particular group, True Hulk, True Hawk Talk, Brandon Richardson Group, Huls on Court, uh, the other Hawks, uh, um, the big the big the biggest Huls channel out there.
