This Could Be BAD NEWS For The Philadelphia 76ers In 2025 NBA Free Agency… | Sixers News & Rumors

There is one team that could ruin the Sixers plans of bringing back Quinton Grimes in free agency this off season and in turn could really hurt what the Sixers team could look like heading into 2025 2026. But before we get into what who that team is and how they could hurt the Sixers, I want to give a big shout out and a big thank you to all the real ones here on the channel. We just surpassed 22,000 subscribers yesterday and it’s been a great really couple of months here on the show and that’s all because of you guys tuning in, watching the show, and hitting that sub button. So, if you have not yet subscribed, let’s keep growing. Hit that sub button for near daily 76ers content. Without further ado, let’s get into today’s show. [Music] The Brooklyn Nets could be a major thorn in the 76ers side this off season as they could very realistically attempt to steal Quinton Grimes away from Philadelphia after he had that breakout last couple of months for the Sixers after acquiring him from the Dallas Mavericks. Thank you, Nico Harris. Another great trade there for Dallas. And it’s because of the Nets cap space and their cap situation that some people are getting a little scared that they could throw a big bag at Quinton Grimes. The Sixers would just not be able to match or if they did would really hinder them building out the rest of their squad. You look at the at the Nets payroll currently as it stands. Nick Claxton making 25 M a year. Cam Johnson at 21. After that, the guys that are under contract right now, no one else is making over $3.3 million. It’s a lot of young guys who look, they don’t really know whether they’re going to be part of the Net’s future or not. A lot of them making very little amounts of money. Now, they will have to bring back Cam Thomas who I’m sure they’re going to want to pay. You know, how much will he get? Probably in that $20 million range. I imagine they want to bring back Don Sharp as well. Let some of these other guys like DLo walk maybe to more of a contending team. But look, the point still stands is that they’re not paying anybody a whole lot of money. And they are going to have somewhere in the neighborhood of 50, 60, even possibly $70 million in cap space this offseason depending on who they end up resigning and some of the moves they make. And there’s even talk they could trade either Nick Claxton or Cam Johnson and they could even open up more cap space. So, it’s a very realistic possibility that with that cap space, the Nets decide, hey, why don’t we go after one of these young restricted free agents, especially in Quinton Grimes, who showed a lot of promise with the Sixers this past season. And look, we know how great Grimes was in his 28 games with Philadelphia, averaging just under 22 points, five rebounds, four and a half assists, shooting very efficiently from the field, and doing a lot more offensively than he’s ever been asked to do in his career while also being solid on the defensive end of the floor. So, he fits in perfectly with what the Sixers would like to do. But I think it makes a lot of sense as well that the Nets would be interested in going after Grimes for a variety of reasons. One, I think he does make sense on their roster, assuming they are offering him a deal for him to be in Brooklyn. If they do bring back someone like Cam Thomas, you slide in Grimes there at the two, that’s not the worst one-two combo you could have there with the way Grimes can play defense and obviously the skills that he showed playing on the ball with Philadelphia could help some of their more offball scorers like a Cam Johnson and like a Nick Claxton. But also, you got to think about it from the Nets perspective. being the only real team with cap space this off seasonason, they can afford to throw some big deals at some restricted free agents. And if nothing else, force some of these teams like the Sixers to have to overpay for some of their restricted guys. So, the Nets, what if they just throw 25, maybe even 30 or more million dollars per year at Quinton Grimes in the hopes that look, either the Sixers decide not to match it and we get a talented young player. Probably a bit of an overpay or we force the Sixers and force their hand to pay all this money for Grimes because in my opinion, the Sixers really cannot afford to lose Quinton Grimes. Think about what he brought to this team after they traded away Caleb Martin for him. What he showed again scoring with the ball in his hands and creating his own shots in that mid-range area pulling up from three. He’s a good defender as well. He’s that perfect starting two guard next to Tyresese Maxine. Allows you to bring Jared McCain at least heading into next year as that six-man scoring punch off the bench. if you lose him, all of a sudden you lose that vital role in that starting lineup. But also, the Sixers don’t have any money regardless because they’re paying Embiid, Paula George, and Tyrese Maxi so much money. Even if they don’t have Grimes on the books, they don’t have enough money to just go out and sign someone else at that price point to replace him. So, they’d be losing him for basically nothing. because you maybe try to work out a signing trade. If the Nets do offer him a large amount of money and you don’t want to pay him, you could try, but if I’m Brooklyn, why would I do that? Why would I give you anything for a player that I could just sign from you in the first place? It just doesn’t really make a lot of sense from the Net’s perspective. So, I think the Sixers have to do whatever they can try to match this deal. But the more money he’s offered, the less likely it is the Sixers do match because they’ve got other holes and needs I need to fill on this roster. Let me know what is the most amount of money per year you would pay for Quinton Grimes. Ideally, the Sixers get him around $20 million, but look, if Brooklyn offers 25 or 30 million a year, would you match that? Let me know down in the comments section. So, there is a possibility Quinton Grimes is not on this team next year. A lot of the talk on this show and when we talk about this team heading into next year and some of their offseason moves is under the assumption Quinton Grimes will be on the team, but it is a possibility that he is a Brooklyn net as we head into next season. So what does Philadelphia look like and how do they rebound if Grimes is gone? Well, obviously number one, Jared McCain becomes a whole lot more important than he already is for this squad because you imagine he’s stepping into that starting lineup instead of being that six man off the bench. And look, coming off the injury, we know how great he looked last year and very limited time. But small sample size, as much as I love Jared McCain and the flashes he showed, he’s got to prove that again coming off this meniscus injury, which by all accounts right now, his rehab’s going very well. got to prove that he can still be that same guy and that when this team is fully healthy, he can really fit in. I, you know, do have some concerns on the defensive end of the floor and all that, but it just makes his impact so much more important. And it can also change maybe what the Sixers want to do in the NBA draft. And I’m still all in on going Ace Bailey at number three overall, but could a player like VJ Edgecomb become even greater of of a possibility at number three overall if you do lose Grimes? Because if you lose Grimes, you’re losing a big part of your perimeter defense at that guard spot. BJ Edgecom is one hell of a defender, right? And if you bring him in, that’s one of the things you bank on him being right at right from the jump is that defensive versatility and his tenacity. So maybe the Sixers from their perspective as a team who they are looking to win now and win right away if they don’t have Grimes on the roster anymore. Maybe they do look at someone like Edgecomb and say, “You know what? He has enough offensively and we can really use that defensive tenacity in this lineup.” And since we have another guard walking out the door, we don’t mind bringing in another guard on this roster. So, it does kind of change maybe what they’re thinking and what their philosophy could be at number three overall. Now, you could also look at some other external free agents you could try to bring in, but again, you really don’t have a ton of money. So, it come down to using that mid-level exception, which would mean that Gershon Yavele would be on the way out. There’s all these domino effects here that come with Quinton Grimes and Gershon Yabellle. So, maybe you go after someone like a Nikquille Alexander Walker, although I think he’s going to get a little bit of a bigger bag from another team than what Philadelphia can offer him. But, I would love Nil Alexander Walker on the team. It’s someone who can be a great two-way wing. He can score from the outside. Showed a little bit off the dribble as well. is very good for Minnesota these past couple years as they made the conference finals in each of the last two seasons. Maybe you go after someone like Malik Beasley, although I think he’s going to stick in Detroit with how good he was during the regular season and had some moments in the playoffs as well. A little bit disappointing, but just a straight shooter that can catch fire from behind the arc. I think would also fit in well with this Sixers team. But again, are you going to have enough money to go after a guy like this with a mid-level exception or could he just resign with Detroit at a higher price point? You can talk about someone like a Gary Trent Jr. as well who signed a small deal with Milwaukee last year and also had a lot of good moments especially in the uh postseason for Milwaukee had a couple really big games. So maybe he’s someone you think about as someone to bring in could play a little defense and hit some threes but you know I think a downgrade from what somebody like a Quinton Grimes is. And again if you’re bringing him in like are you prior prioritizing someone like a Gary Trent over a Gershon Yabasel. It’s really what it comes down to is the Sixers have some very tough decisions they might have to make with Gershon and with Grimes because again the more money you pay Quinton Grimes the less likely it becomes that you’ll be able to retain Gershon. If he does take that lower that taxpayer mid-level exception of about $5 million you get hard cap to the second apron and the more money Grums makes the closer you get to that hard cap. So, how do the Sixers manage that situation? How much do they value Grimes versus Gershon? And which one’s a bigger priority? I would assume Quinton Grimes is a bigger priority being younger. And I think having a more dynamic offensive skill set, but ideally, you have everybody back. Unfortunately, it might not be entirely in the Sixers control if Brooklyn does try to screw the Sixers over and throw 30 plus million dollars at Quinton Grimes. Predict it for me. Where do you think Grimes is going to play in 2025? I still think he’s going to be a Sixer and I think he’ll come in around that 20 to 22.5 million mark, but you let me know. Give me an S for Sixers, give you an N for Nets. We’ll see you next time here on 76ers. Now, [Music]

  1. Last time I checked, the Nets aren't the only team in the league!!!!! Someone else might out bid the Nets,so let the chips fall where they may.

  2. His decision would be to make 20 million on the winning team or 25 on a losing Team taxes going to take that five anyway so he’s not leaving

  3. If Brooklyn makes an offer over 30M annually
76ers then should move on to resign Yabusele instead

  4. This is why Free agency should be before the draft not after the draft. NBA got it wrong again first by hiding the lottery doing that crap lying in finagling and rigging it behind closed doors expecting us to believe those idiots and then three agencies after that how can you fill the need that you lost in free agency if the draft is before free agency, DOPES!

  5. Let him go, if it's not possible to pay him…draft VJ Edgecombe to play in the backcourt with Maxey and resign Yabusele.
Any way With PG the project is down so…
We need young blood and rebuilt

  6. Let me say this, Philly besides even getting the 3rd pick & without PG & Embiid, got some assets! Grimes, Maxey, Jared, Guershon, & Edwards
