Knicks Win Game 5 to Avoid Elimination vs. Pacers | Inside the NBA

This was um a beat down. Convincing. Yeah, that was uh the Knicks came out with great energy. I thought Coach Tibs made a great adjustment with Jaylen off the ball uh when they spent the garden, but also the Knicks role players was so aggressive when Jaylen went to the bench. That’s when they built a big lead. They’ve got to be aggressive when he’s out there. Uh but but every time the patience made up, Mr. Brunson came up, man, he was spectacular tonight. You know, they play with great desperation. And everybody’s preaching the same thing. Just win this game tonight. They did that. Now, Ernie, like you said, we move on to possible I mean a game six. Yes, we do. You know what I used to say this, Ernie? I don’t know if you remember, the series doesn’t start until a team is faced with elimination. Yes, you did used to say that. But in the in the recent playoffs, that wasn’t the case. Tonight is the case because now you’re it’s 3-2. You’re going back to Indiana. Team was faced with elimination. They met the challenge and if they go to Indiana well and they this game in Indiana everybody says series don’t start till you lose a home game that’s what most people say he says that other thing but the pace is still in control but I will say this say it say it don’t win game six they going to come back to New York it’s a it is a must win for the Pacers cuz if they come back here they going to get another ass kicking like they And I will say this Tyrese Hallebertton and and Miles cannot have single game single single digit game. But Ernie, the pace is the whole thing. The pace. The pace is they got to step up. We can do all this strategy and all this other stuff we talk about. The Indiana Pacers can’t play slow and it was really evident tonight. Is uh Hey TK, tell me do we have a highlight of this game? Uh now would be a great time to look at it. Well, we can find some pacer highlights. It’ll be a miracle. So Tyrese Hallebertton Pacers trying to close out Jaylen Brunson and the Knicks who got off to a hot start and he came out aggressive. He said, “I am not going home. I don’t want to start doing yard work and stuff. I’m going to be away from the house.” How much yard work you reckon he does? Oh, you know, you got to cut your own grass, Ernie. You can’t pay people to do that. But I’m going to tell you this. I was not aware of that fact. I’m just telling you, brother. Rich people pay that. Johnny May. Johnny May does not let you. You have to cut grass. They give you Charles Barker. Kid is on fire right now. I’d like to see you cutting grass. But you you know what the crazy thing about these highlights? We’re going to watch the Knicks score. Look at that man. But the most important thing is after the basket, they did a great job of denying the early outlet pass to uh to Hallebertton to create a faster pace game. And a good thing so Car realized he was tall and just stopped shooting threes. Took the ball to the basketball. Not only that, Kennedy played with a great great aggression and also great energy. If you’re saying, “Hey, who was I that who hit that three?” It’s Jarus Walker getting his first taste of this series. But Ernie, when Carl And plays with force, but he has this series. He really has this series. Yes, but well, he got to do it all the time. They catch every game. Every time he shoots a three, he lets him off the hook, man. This guy right here. Oh, bully ball. Get off me, little man. Get that. He can say, “Get that big man off me.” 32 on the night for Jaylen Brunson on 12 out of 18 shooting and four out of seven from deep. His 10th 30point game of this postseason and his fourth of this series in five games. Everybody on the Knicks just played well. They said, “You know what? We’re going to win this game for the home crowd and we’re going to continue this series.” Blson again. Man, every time they made a run, he hit a big basket, but again, they did a great job. And here’s a chewer coming in and getting him a bucket. But they just did a great job of what I what I call choking the outlet pass. Do not let him get in transition. Do not let him come off the run. Do not let him be a wide receiver, so to speak, catching the ball and then movement. Don’t throw let him have a 5 yd pass on the move. He has to catch it, stop, and then go. And then Nicks did a great job. Cat taking it strong to the rim. 100% of shots. 24 and 13 for Carl Anthony Towns who was questionable coming into this one because of the uh left knee. Ben Stiller. Oh, Ben. Get past six first, Ben. Yeah, you got to get to six to get to If you’re going to win the series, it’s going to have to be in seven. Let’s get through six, but we worry about seven. Yeah. 111 to 94. The Knicks win it. Here’s Tibs. The job you guys did on Hallebertton tonight holding them to the points. Yeah, you know, sometimes, you know, it was probably a combination of him you missing some shots he normally makes, but I thought our guys were tied together and trying to make him work uh for everything. And, you know, that’s what you have to do. We have to fight to win every possession. How much does working on the offensive end of the floor play into that, making him work? It seemed like you guys were more intentional about trying to get him into action tonight. No, it’s basically the same, but uh sometimes you have opportunities to to attack different ways. U but there wasn’t a a big change offensively. Tom, how much did Cat set the tone in the first half? I thought he was very aggressive and I I think that’s super important. I think uh Jaylen as well, I thought the the first quarter that set the tone for the game. We got to make sure that we stay aggressive and we have to stay disciplined. I think staying disciplined and playing with toughness is huge. Uh in the nick of time is uh is correct. And so game five a 17-point win for the New York Knicks and holding the Indiana Pacers to a postseason low of 94. it had been 100 and uh only 41% field goal shooting. So when they won game three as you see these numbers on Jaylen Brunson with his 10th 30point game of of this postseason um wow that’s a great list to be on too brother. Damn Bernard Willis co Carmelo King yeah not not bad bro. So when you u when you look at game three, Knicks had to come from 20 back to get their first win of this series. Tonight they uh never trailed, led by as many as 22. We see teams focusing on different things as the series goes on. Obviously they they took Tyrese Hallebertton out of this game today. So how do you get this this is for all you guys? How do you get Tyrese Hallebertton back to being Tyrese Hallebertton in game six in Indie? Well, if you’re a point guard and they’re choking the outlet, meaning they’re once you’re out letting the ball when you have it, we’re not like going to let you catch it on the run. So, what you have to do now Indiana is make the adjustment, you set a pick in the back court for him to get his momentum. So, now if you want to pressure him, we’re going to set him going to be a big body person there to set a pick for him as he’s coming full steep speed. And now your head is on the swivel because tonight his head was on the swivel and you returned the favor by now putting their head on the swivel. Yeah. But coach Carlile said they got to play with force. They got to play with energy and they will. We all know everybody plays well at home. Especially others are going to play well at home. They’re going to make some adjustments. They’re going to push the pace. But if they don’t win this game, Yeah. But but they’re going to be in trouble. The Pacers didn’t try to win this game in my opinion. But think about it, Ernie. Go back and look at the last game. They didn’t try to win. They didn’t. They they were satisfied because go back and look at the last game. Even when the Knicks scored, they took it out and were going. They didn’t do any of that. They played they play and you could just they played comfortable. They played comfortable. If you go back and look with Reggie Miller, we had them on the first day and we said, “What are the keys?” is just pace. You see the Pacers can’t play slow. So when they got beat in game three, they came in game four. Even when the Knicks scored, they pushed it, pushed it, pushed it. Tyrese was pushing it ahead. They didn’t do any of that. Do you feel like this was a team that played with look, we have some wiggle room here. If we don’t win tonight, we can win it at our place. You don’t think so? No, I don’t think that. Well, I think the Knicks that sometimes the team played better than you tonight. The Knicks played better. No matter. No, because they took that away. That’s my This is my perspective talks about this point in the season talking about play force and energy and playing to stop they didn’t do it any outlet. That was good game plan. The Knicks played better to me better but the Pacers played down. Ernie to answer your question is human nature. We’re up 3-1. If we win this game, we go to the finals. They didn’t come out with that force. And Charles makes a great point. They didn’t play the same way they’ve been playing when they’ve been playing winning basketball. 17-point win for stay alive. That’s human nature.
