Victor Wembanyama’s New Growth Spurt is Scary
Victor Winyama went viral a thousand times before getting drafted because it was crazy to see someone that tall move and play basketball like that. And when he got in the league, it was crazy to see him make freaks like Anthony Davis or Rudy Gobear look small. So, people started asking, “How tall is he really?” Well, we got the official answer when he measured in at 7′ 3 and 1/2 in without shoes before the NBA draft. Case closed. Like 7’4 in shoes. But since then, people have noticed something weird. The Spurs listed him at 74 as a rookie, but then they downgraded him to 73 before his second season. Did he shrink? No, the exact opposite. Photos came out of him standing next to guys with confirmed height like Zack Edi. And Wimy is clearly taller. So, did Wimy actually grow? And the Spurs are trying to hide that. Why? And what does that mean for his NBA career? But I just got the drafted at 19 years old and growth charts show that most males stop growing after age 18. But in rare cases, some may continue to grow into their early 20s. When Giannis faced Wimi for the first time, he saw the rookie do insane things like a block on one end and handle like a guard. But he said he plays the right way. I’ve never seen anything like him, but he is not 7 foot three. He is way taller. And whoever said he’s 7 foot three, that’s a lie, really. So, according to Giannis, Wendy already grew from before the draft to the middle of his rookie season. But apparently, it hasn’t stopped yet. There are several recent photos that all point to another growth spurt. And with these photos, we can determine how tall he might actually be right now. So, photo number one is from early March, the Spurs official team picture. That’s Wimi in the back. And a Spurs blog called Pounding the Rock did the math here. It’s a little complicated, but stay with me. So Charles Bassie is 6’10 and clearly goes up to Wimy’s mouth. Well, a human head is conservatively 1/8 the height of a person’s body. So on a 74 Wimi that would be 11 in, but the mouth is a/4 of the way up the head. So that leaves 8 and 1/4 in on top of Charles Bassie. Wendy is 7 f’ 6 and 1/4 in. But hey, that photo was like far away. We had to do some math. Let’s keep it simple. Every Spurs rookie of the year posed for this picture in late April. Tim Duncan is listed at 6’11. David Robinson is 71 and Wimi is a lot taller than everyone. But how much taller? Well, Robinson is older, right? Like maybe he’s shrunk an inch or two. Fine. But if we go to the mouth height again, that still puts Wimi at 76, closer to 77, which is crazy. But the latest photo is staggering. This is Wimi standing next to French prospect Maxim Reo in miday. Maxim is listed at 7 and 1/4 in at the combine. So according to proportions, the top of the nose is the middle of the head, which means Wimby is about 5 1/2 in taller, making him 7′ 7 in tall. And if you run that photo through a simulator, it also happens to say 77. So dude grew about 3 plus inches since getting drafted. Goodness. But who cares? So he’s taller. What’s the big deal? I mean, why are the Spurs trying to hide this? Well, in NBA history, there have been just seven players who are 73 or taller to have notable careers. Zadrunus Elgowskis, Christo Fzingis, and Arvita Sabonis 73. Ralph Samson, Rick Smith’s, Mark Eaton at 74 and 76 Yao Ming. And of those seven, five of them either missed an entire year with injury or had to retire because their body broke down. In fact, almost every player in history over 7-1 had a career plagued with injuries. Wimby has already ended both seasons early, even though one was a blood clot. So the Spurs know if we all found out about another growth spurt to around 767, the entire NBA media would have a giant freak out. It would be wallto-wall coverage on the day of that growth spurt announcement about Wimby’s career being threatened. And every time he has a small little tweak, the media would immediately go to career ending. So they don’t want all that stuff in his head like for the rest of his career. And obviously they’re trying to protect him, listing him at like 73. 73 is a joke. But the Spurs also believe those concerns. They secretly worry that Wimy’s career might be a lot shorter than most. And how do we know that? Because Sham’s just reported something very strange about San Antonio. They also have a ton of assets. They have tradable contracts. They have the number two pick. They have the number 14 pick in this year’s draft. They have all their picks. Whether there’s a player like a Jansen dempo, I think a Kevin Durant and other guy that the Spurs there was mutual interest in at the deadline. I think they’re going to be looking very actively to see is there a wing player we can bring in that could take us over the top. Wow. So, forget just Giannis. They might get Kevin Durant, 37year-old Kevin Durant. Why would they trade real assets when Wimi is just 21 years old? Because they are afraid of his body. They know that Wimy’s timeline might be super short, so they want to get a championship in while they can. This ain’t like a Tim Duncan where they had a 19-year runway to win multiple titles. The Spurs know it might be a lot shorter than that. Plus, with the new CBA, it makes sense to load up on expensive vets. Now, while Wimby is still on his rookie contract, but is this report even real? I mean, how do we know the Spurs are even thinking on that short little timeline? because they already confirmed it by trading for De’Aran Fox instead of trying to build slowly through the draft like the OKC Thunder. They started spending their draft assets to accelerate Wimy’s timeline by surrounding him with win now vets. But what would it actually take to get KD? Well, first of all, his natural position is small forward, which is an area of need for the Spurs. Last year, he scored 27 points per game on 53% from the field and 1.2 blocks. That is better than every Spurs player who played 55 plus games last season. But if the Suns want to demand that number two pick, it’s not going to happen. The Spurs never overpay for players. So I think a three-team deal might make it work. What about the Spurs get KD, the Suns get Nick Claxton, Kell Johnson, the number 14 pick, and another one of those picks from the Hawks. The Nets get Devin Vel and a 2029 first from the Spurs. So the Suns here would get a young big and Clax to pair with Devin Booker and the number 14 pick in this year’s draft which is a valuable cheap contract. The Nets do this because they get a shooter Vel who is a valuable piece in their new offense plus a first round pick. But obviously the Spurs would prefer Giannis who is seven years younger than KD and still playing at an MVP level. Dude got third in MVP this year. Yes, Giannis doesn’t shoot but Wimy took a huge leap there last year. Either way, it’s pretty obvious the Spurs feel pressure because of Wimy’s new growth spurt, and it’s still amazing to see a guy his size play like he does. But the taller Wimby gets, the more you have to worry about his long-term future in the NBA. But apparently, another generational prospect’s right around the corner. Cooper flag is about to get drafted number one. All the reports say the Mavericks will not trade the pick. They are going with Cooper. But then we get another report, and it’s just like the Mads, isn’t it? They might actually try a plan with Cooper that could completely ruin his career before it even starts.

Victor Wembanyama just keeps getting taller and it could be bad for his career. Extreme height isn’t always a good thing in pro sports and this is a look at the evidence that Wemby has gained a few inches and what that could mean for him and the Spurs.

There seems to be confusion about what inspired this video. The height and measurement details came from a Spurs blog called Pounding the Rock. I credit them in the video. Unfortunately another YouTuber did not credit them leading some people to believe I “copied” his content which I have never and will never do. Here’s the Spurs blog so you can see for yourself. It should be obvious we both looked at this article and made a video about it: https://www.poundingtherock.com/2025/5/20/24433937/victor-wembanyama-is-growing-and-the-spurs-cant-hide-it-any-longer
he was always taller than edey he just be capping ab his height lmao
Whoever thinks this guy is gonna have a career of more than 10 years is dillusional
dejavu…
Wemby 7’5 with shoes that’s the likely truth.Im not sure why Simmons is saying he is 7’7 that is not true.
I hit 6’6.5 at 21
derrick lively grew too 7'3 now everything is bigger in texas
The Spurs are not trading for an old played out Kevin Durant. Shams sometimes reports the most random stuff he "hears" and has been called out several times reporting crap that flat out wasn't true.
My friends be trippin I showed them this video and they said it was chat gbt they didn’t even spell it right LoL
I grew from 6'1.5'' to 6'3'' when I was 20 and 6'3 to 6'4.5'' when I was 21
Nobody wanna talk about Chet at 7’2
Big men are just a huge injury risk
get the asian dude
They should just say F it we ball and Run KD, Giannias and Wemby as a team. What do you even do to that?
Wemby needs to build his body like Giannis
I grew until I was 21. Only got me above 6' though lol
Luol Deng grew 2 inches while in the NBA.
You know I gotta be honest with you, I know that there's a history of guys too tall having their careers ruined with injuries, and that it does seem like the spurs and the NBA are trying to hide his real height, but you seem to really be running away with these outlandish trade ideas.
Like I get it your channel is speculative, but to think this height thing is genuinely connected with some fear for Wemby's future, a guy that so far hasn't suffered from injuries as much as you suggested (a blood clot is just an unlucky occurence), to me that's really stupid.
He was extremely tall before he grew even larger and 7'3" is still an extremely tall height and still fits the category of guys too big to stay healthy, so how big of a difference does it make for the spurs to have him listed like that, if you're not even saying they're trying to trade him?
This guy averaged 22 PPG in his first year and at a late point this season averaged over 25 PPG as well as shot 35% from 3 on like 5 attempts.
Wemby is a guaranteed future top 10 player, and very easily could be top 5 and even top 3, being tall is still a good thing in basketball…
we need the asian guy
When you measured his head though you're going all the way down to his neck
Real ones saw the ice cream commercial and always knew he was 7'6
The Spurs didn't give up many assets for Fox. And Wemby didn't have a typical injury to the knee or ankle, he ad a blood cloth. Once it is recovered, it will be fully over with. So far, i do not see signs that his career will be short. It is just because he is tall that people say that.
He here for a good time not a long time
We just adding 5 feet as his head??😂😂
