Spurs RUMORS Are Out of Control!
It’s not a rumor. It’s not a rumor at all. What is up, San Antonio Spurs fans? Welcome to TSR Sports. Hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend. We’re back doing some videos and there’s just been so many rumors popping up and new rumors lately and I was like, you know what, I don’t want to address rumors daily. So, maybe we’ll do like a weekly recap of rumors moving forward because it’s exhausting and a lot of them aren’t going to come true. However, I did want to do a recap of some recent rumors and some numerous poss and just kind of tell you what I think may happen, won’t happen, yes will happen, etc. Of course, drop a comment while we’re doing this. Do you think any of these are likely or nope, not happening? No chance. Zip. The Kevin Durant rumor. It’s going to be 37. And we’ve talked about this. This is going to be a recap one. 37 this season. Huge contract and he doesn’t fit our timeline. Even by bringing in Kevin Durant in, I don’t think we’re a contender next season. Will would be better probably. But it doesn’t make sense. I know a lot of folks want Katie and WBY and if Katie was 5 years younger, maybe. But you look at recency. The Suns were disaster. The Nets were disaster with him. No. Uh this is a big no for me. Don’t see it happening. And I honestly hope it does not. Constantly in the news. See a lot of Spurs fans want him. And I get it. Twint towers 2.0. It sounds so good. But he also has a huge contract and likely the Spurs are going to have to give up a ton of assets, players, picks, just how many players exactly? Three players, four players, are we going to completely deplete our bench and just have five capable starters but no backups when needed? And then there’s the fit as well. And I had talked about this a lot, but I was thinking this weekend and and today and researching. Giannis takes about 19 shots per game. That is about the same as Wemby. If Giannis was to come here with WBY, is the offense going to flow like the force through the trees through Giannis or Wemb? Would one of them be willing to be the number two guy? Is one the Batman, one’s the Robin? Are they both Batman’s? I don’t think either of guys. I think if Giannis would come here, he would say this. I don’t I don’t know if he would say this, but probably the impression is since he’s a more established player, he’s a superstar. This would now be his team. I don’t want this to be Giannis’s team. I want this to be WebM’s team. So, I don’t think this works. It just It sounds good in some ways on paper, but when you really think about it, the cap issues we’d have in a couple years, this is a no. This is a no. This is a no for me. Don’t see it happen. If it does, holy moly. one that popped up that you guys told me about on the Twitters and I researched it and this has been out there a little bit. Jaylen Brown, 66 wing for the last four years, a slightly below average three-point shooter. About a 66 wing, that’s a slightly below average three-point shooter. Wow, that sounds like some of the guys on our roster. He has a ginormous contract, 235 million over the next four years. Just based on that, this is a Oh, hell no. My goodness. No, no, no. We’re going to see this until the draft, which can’t get here soon enough. Seriously, it’s a month away, a little less than a month. We’re going to see a lot of talk about trading the second pick, trading or trading downs, trading in some way. And the question is for who. If the Spurs were to trade down, do you trade down for Ace Bailey? Do you trade down for a coniple slip? Who the heck knows? This seems like a slight maybe. I could see this happening if we get an offer we can’t refuse. The back court is Darren Fox and Stefon Castle or Darren Fox and Deon Mel depending on your point of view and maybe you have Castle starting at the 30 by an offer I can’t refuse. And I don’t mean one blue man account to count your spell. The let’s say the Nets. The Nets are one, you know, because it’s been out there that Ron Harper would like to his son to play for the Nets. Makes sense. Grew up in Brooklyn. Dylan did. Dylan, you son of a That’s what I’ll be saying if I guess he doesn’t. Anyway, sorry, Predator tangent. I think the Nets have the eighth overall pick. Correct me if I’m wrong. What if they were to offer us the eighth overall pick and then they have three picks in the 20s? One of those as well. So you still get a good player at Inc. Ace Bailey won’t be there at Inc. but you know Conan Nipple could be there. If they want a big like Derek Queen or Kevin Malawatch, they’ll probably be there maybe. We’ll see. But then you give them a pick in the the mid20s. Now it’s pretty much a pretty good shot if you want Maxine Reo in this draft. He will be available at that spot. But then you also the future draft capital. Maybe you get another first round pick. Maybe an unprotected first round pick in next year’s draft. or maybe not protect, maybe top six protection, some light protection, whatever. Maybe two future pick swaps. What I’m saying Spurs fans is Dylan Harper sounds good, but I’ve not seen him play NBA minutes. Right now, it’s a whole lot of potential. And if the Spurs could get a just a lot of you are Cowboys fans, if you’re watching this video because you’re Spurs fans, do you remember the Hershel Walker trade? Maybe you’re not the dating myself, but the Hershel Walker trade way back in the day where the Cowboys traded Hershel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings and the Vikings gave up like I don’t know first five first round picks something crazy which helped build the Dallas Cowboys dynasty of the 90s. If we get that type of offer, we’re just like, “Wow, the Nets really like Don Harour. Maybe there’s some players involved as well.” If it’s one of those type of offers where any Spurs fan looks at and goes, “Yeah, I do that, too.” Granted, in the end, it’s the Spurs organization, Brian Wright’s decision, not, you know, armchair quarterback here. But if that if it’s that type of offer, maybe they do it. Do I see it happening? No. But there’s been crazier trades in the NBA. I mean, not just got traded. So, anything is possible. So, again, if it’s a it’s a massive hall, a fleece type hall, because I’ve seen one of you, I know I we’re going to flee somebody with that second overall pick, and I don’t totally disagree that that could the doors open for that, then yeah, this could possibly happen. Last but not least, we have some recent rumors about Chris Paul going back to the Dallas Ma or going not going back, going to the Dallas Mavericks. Yep, he’s not under contract with the Spurs, by the way. It was a one-year contract. If the Spurs draft Dylan Harper, one, he’s not getting much playing time with Harper Fox and Castle ahead of him. Two, he’s definitely not starting. And I tend to think he probably still wants to start if possible, as long as he can. Well, where’s a good place to start? The Dallas Mavericks. Kyrie Ring’s going to be out till what? All-Star break after the All-Star break. I don’t know his timeline where he would get hurt in March, April. So, yeah. Anyway, start of the year, somewhere around there. Start of the year, allar break. Somewhere around I I’m guessing Kyrie Orton will be back. Until then, he starts. They should be a playoff team next year. They will be a playoff team. They’re likely going to draft Cooper flag. Yeah, it makes 100% sense for him to go to the Dallas Mavericks. It seems in articles that, you know, Chris Paul stabbing the Spurs in the back. He goes to the Mavericks. Why? We can’t use him. Go where the opportunity presents itself. I’m New York Giants fans. A lot of Giants fans. Oh, Saquin Barkley is a traitor. He went where the best offer was and then gave him a chance to win, which by the way, not only did he win a Super Bowl with his respective team, he had a career year. I don’t think he’s a traitor if he goes to Dallas. He had a, you know, he had a very nice year with us, mentored our guys, and then he moves on. It is what it is. I don’t think he’s doing it to be malicious. He’s doing it because if he wants to keep playing, he wants to go where he gets a starter role. Okay, that’s all I got. These are the all the rumors I’ve seen popping up over the last couple months, but also in the last week. Spurs fans, do you think any of these are possible? Katie, Giannis, Jaylen Brown trading number two pick down, Chris Paul the Mavs, there’s five there. I say one for sure happens. I see CP3 going to the Mavs. H possible chance on the second pick being traded down as a little recap. And then the other three, Giannis, Brown, Katie, do not see him coming here. Just either doesn’t work financially or just doesn’t make sense. That’s all I got. Very curious what you guys what your thoughts are in the comments. I like sending #2 pick, Keldon Johnson and Malaki Branham for Lauri Markinnen and the #5 pick. Should be able to get either Edgecomb or Kneppel at #5.

Completely agree with you on all points. The more I think about it I really don't want the Spurs making any kind of rash moves this offseason, Let's bring the last years team back, with some bench roleplayer fillers and see what they can do. I Think they will be a great team as they are, playoffs for sure if they stay healthy. And then they can see what finishing touch moves they want to make for a championship run the season after.
I personally thinks that if we were to make a trade it be for KD. His actually the perfect player to trade for. He probably be the cheapest and he would help Wemby “ favorite player “ and Castle n Harper his year or 2 his here. He will also give this young squad experience in the playoffs. You just don’t get to the playoff and win the championship right away. You have to get there and learn and what better way than having KD bridge those experiences and accelerating that .
Stick and pick Dylan Harper. Continue the build. Eventually, we will overtake OKC as the best young team in the West.
CP going to Dallas makes sense
Really good Arnold accent! What about Bobby Portis from the Bucks or trading Vassell and the 14 for Naz Reid? I wouldn't mind trading down for Maluach, he's about the only one. Ace is a gamble, and we will regret it when Harper becomes a start.
Should sign Yabusele
Maybe the best thing to happen would be to get a Thunder-Pacers Finals — two DEEP teams combating and setting the narrative that will hopefully be a through-line this off-season. Keep your depth, keep your flexibility. Really good points on the whole Giannis thing. Giannis is a HUGE personality. That's Wemby's role. Wemby's the undisputed leader and we've had the pleasure of watching him grow into that: talking to the crowd after games, dropping killer quotes, putting on a show. This isn't David Robinson, officer and a gentleman and a mellow Tim Duncan. Wemby IS the star, he wants to be the star, and it's HIS team. You already see Fox and Steph Castle (quiet) knowing and ACCEPTING what roles they have to take.
It's also not just Giannis's shot attempts — he thinks he's a Point Guard. In fact, that's how they used Giannis mostly when the Bucks made their run late in the season. I don't want Giannis bringing up the ball taking away those playmaking attempts from Wemby. If it's a big taking the ball up putting pressure on the defense, let it be Wemby and have a 5 like Naz Reid or Barnes hanging back on the perimeter waiting for the pass. Castle, Fox, and Harper can put plenty of downhill pressure on defenses — probably at an elite level, TBH — so whatever difference Giannis could make their is already covered by that backcourt.
I really enjoyed your take on this. I agree that all those contracts are too high. And I have no issue with CP3 leaving, especially if starting is a deal breaker. In that scenario, I believe he has to go.

Can the Spurs be the Spurs and use the Spurs system of building a team or do we have to pretend the Spurs are the Lakers each offseason now? This team is making 0 big trades this offseason. At best we can get Naz Reid in a trade. I am not going to believe any of these stars are like "Yeah we going to San Antonio". Even Fox only came here because he's from Texas and his wife is from San Antonio. The Spurs are gonna be the Spurs
Giannis is a terrible fit for Wemby. Wemby is a great fit for Giannis. But imagine we go ahead and win a title with Giannis? He gets the finals MVP? Wemby just a second fiddle to him? We are here to build the GOAT, we aren't here to take the ball away from Wemby and give it to Giannis, some dude who has no loyalty to the Spurs? Hell no. The only reason Duncan/Robinson worked was because Robinson immediately was like "You're the guy Tim, I am gonna be second fiddle". Giannis is not gonna do that at all

The take about trading the number 2 pick to the nets for number 8 would need to include future unprotected picks. Nothing less. Kyrie out for up to 1 year from injury. Kobe was the only exception that came back sooner from that injury. So, yes Chris Paul is a perfect fit for the Mavericks

What if we get kd cheap? He only has a year left at 37, so his value is not that high. The trade will be basically Vassell and 14th, another frp and 3 srp. So is vassell worth kd.
It seems that CP3 has some difficulties to live far from his family, which is totally understandable and completely personal (even for a golden professional opportunity, I wouldn't leave far from my daughter…). I don't see him living far from LA if he doesn't get a starting role.
The Spurs cannot guarantee him this starting spot. If the Mavs give him, he should definitely go there. We will all wish him good luck (and be happy to crush the Mavs with our high pace).
If he doesn't manage to get a starting role next season, I think that he could get a last contract with the Lakers or the Clippers (both teams lack of a good and cheap backup at the PG spot).
I had a look to the picks that Brooklyn could offer to the Spurs in exchange of our 2nd pick this year :
1) Most of their picks are their own or from New York. All NY players are under 30 years old. We shouldn't expect this team to be out of the playoff spots in the next five years. The NY picks should all be late first round picks. And if they build a good team around Harper, the Nets could also be a playoff team soon (the eastern conference is so bad…) and the Nets picks could also be out of the lotery.
2) The Spurs don't need too many picks in this 2025 draft. They already own three picks and this is far from enough. The Spurs have five open spots in the roster and they now need to fill in some spots with some good vets and not additional rookies.
3) The Nets have only two valuable players in contract (Cam Johnson and Nicolas Claxton). Nicolas Claxton is out of the discussions. The Spurs won't put 25M$ for the Wemby's backup (completely nonsense). From what I have seen from Harper, he has a great potential and he is not a consensus first pick only because Flagg exists. Harper would have been first pick in 2022 and 2024 without any doubts. Does Cam Johnson worth the loss of Harper ?
Jaylen Brown is the one of the worst supermax contract in NBA. RJ Barrett for example has similar stats but he only costs half of Brown. No, thank you but Jaylen can stay in massachussetts.
Let's draft three rookies in this very loaded draft.
Let's start trading the players who won't be part of the Spurs' project : Devin ? Keldon ? Malaki ? Blake ? (to bring in some good vets who could help all these young players to develop)
Let's bring in a starting PF and a backup C.

if I am to trade the 2nd pick I will inquire for Jaren Jackson Jr Instead of Giannis, Memphis currently lost their identity and the Morant situation injury wise and off court issue could still be there, If Memphis want to rebuild, Dylan Harper is the guy. Spurs could still retain some good young players may 2, Sochan/Vassell/Castle/JOhnson, depending who Memphis wants

KD is the best option, we need shooters, hes still a big time scorer can take a 2nd option role and will come a lot cheaper than other superstars because of his age. WE NEED A SUPERSTAR to help this year no more rebuilding. Get rid of Vassel and KJ with couple picks

We already have a big 3 (Wemby, Fox and Castle). We need position players that will excel as part of a championship team. I would trade the 2 pic, vessel and 2 second round picks next year. I would ask the nets for Cam, Claxyon their 18 pick. We are also be dropping salary with Vassell.
