Spurs Updates – Trading Pick, Dylan Harper, Trading Players & Landing A Star
What’s going on everyone? So, according to Don Harris, for what it’s worth, spoke with three NBA execs, coaches this morning, all three expect the Spurs to hang on to the number two pick and take Harper, Dylan Harper, uh all gushed about him, uh see him as a future all-star. Number 14 may be in play, as are a couple of current roster players. Spurs have to address size shooting needs, but we already knew that lots of exploratory talks or calls are as always regular pregaf business. So again, kind of nothing crazy. It’s kind of like what we’ve been hearing in um you know, kind of have floating around that look that they view Dylan Harper as like a potential all-star that he is a piece that they want to add that they don’t necessarily want to include him in any Giannis trade or anything like that. Now, obviously, again, you see teams all the time talk about like, oh, you know, hey, we’re not trading this guy or we’re not trading this or, you know, we’re keeping this guy or, you know, we we value the number two pick like that. And a lot of times it’s just, you know, negotiation tactics and, you know, to draw and drive up a high demand and price. But, well, Dylan Harper does make a lot of sense with or without Yiannis on Kmpo. Obviously, you know, you got a very young team, a very young core, right? You look at a team like OKC who very likely could end up winning the NBA championship, more likely than not is going to win the NBA championship. I think that they’re going to win the NBA championship. And you look at a young Spurs team and you’re like, man, they’re on the rise, too. They could easily be there in the next couple years if they just kind of stay the course. Obviously, at some point, guys are going to need to start getting paid and whatnot, but Spurs have some time to kind of work through and figure some stuff out. Now, there is also the whole idea of like, hey, you got De’arren Fox, right? There is this kind of pressure of like, hey, we we want to kind of expedite things a little quickly, especially as good as Victor Women has been right out the gate. Um, you know, and him and him even expressing that he wants to win, right? He doesn’t want to wait, you know, six, seven, eight years for him to finally win his first reign. He wants to win one sooner rather than later, right? But if you’re the Spurs, you need to make sure you’re maintaining those opportunistic trades. You want to make sure you’re kind of staying the course. Don’t do anything too crazy, right? Like, you know, you have a clear path and direction you can head down to. You have and are in a very good win-win position that, you know, you don’t need to go all in, right? You don’t need to do anything crazy, but you at any point have that capability, have that ability to do so. I definitely think guys like Devin Vel are probably gone. Kelvin Johnson are probably gone, right? I wouldn’t be shocked if they traded Jeremy Sohan, right? They this Spurs team have a ton of needs, right? Obviously, you got a ton of young guys that you want to grow and develop and build around and whatnot, but you could use some more size on the inside. You need some more shooting. You need some three and wings and depth, right? You could use some bench production. There’s there’s a lot. You are far from a finished team. You’re far from a finished product. And bare minimum, you want to at least make the playoffs next year, right? like you know how long until it’s like okay now now we’re you know we’re kind of just dragging our feet and dragging along at some point you want to start making the play in or playoffs or whatever and you’re in a very deep stacked Western Conference. So, you know, some at some point regardless, some tough calls are going to need to be made. Some tough decisions are going to have to be had, but I don’t think that the Spurs necessarily have to do that right now, right? Stay the course. Let things develop naturally. If if that move or that trade or whatever, whether it’s Giannis or whatever, ends up becoming available, then fine. You know, you pull that off and do it. You have Victor Wimyama and De’aran Fox, two guys that, you know, are going to be allstar level, if not all stars. Victor Wyama for sure I think will be an all-star but you know Darren Fox very likely could end up being an all-star as well playing alongside Victor Womenyama. You got you know Stefon Castle that’s going in a year too. uh you know if you end up drafting Dylan Harper obviously if you can end up landing Yiannis or Kevin Durant which even Kevin Durant I think you know you can make an argument is a better natural fit and and might actually make them slightly better because you don’t have to worry about pecking order or you know who has the ball in their hands or who takes the last shot or any of those things right like you know it’s like with Giannis it’s like Giannis is the best player so is he the number one guy but it’s supposed to be Wimbe team right like there’s there could be this little kind of learning curve where Kevin Durant is just I mean he’s one of the most plug plugandplay guys in the league. Spurs obviously are interested in a star and they want a star, but there’s always going to be that next star. There’s always like every two months it feels like there’s a new star that’s available that wants to change the scenery and wants out and whatnot, right? So again, if you’re the Spurs, you don’t need to to jump the gun here. Don’t need to do anything too crazy, right? Just you you’re you are in it in a place of advantage. You are in a place of we have the control, right? Like Spurs, yes, they have a lot of needs, but you you don’t have to necessarily address everything at once, right? Can you can you get one 3 and D guy this off season, right? Can you get a a a Herb Jones and then go and land a quality backup center, right? Even if it’s like a Clint Capella or something like that, right? Like just go get a an interior type center. Now it’s like, okay, well, now you solve two major needs. You got a piece for now in the future, right? You got Dylan Harper, you got, you know, Victor Women Yammen, Darren Fox, they’re going to have a full season together, you know, full training camp and offseason and preseason and all that stuff, right? Like, so, and then now you start making those steps, start making those strides, right? You know, look to Can you turn a Devin Vel and Kell Johnson and a Jeremy Sohan and some of these guys that are probably going to be the odd man out, right? Can you start turning them into, you know, better complimentary pieces or or depth or fill a need or a hole or whatnot? Right? Again, obviously Giannis is the big fish. Obviously, Giannis is the guy that, you know, they want, right? There’s talks about, you know, Giannis wanting them, but there’s all there’s also questions about is Giannis even gonna leave. It’s kind of one of those things like we’ll believe it when we see it, right? Like is Jiannis Jiannis even gonna ask out? It’s very possible he just sticks around in M in uh Milwaukee and then you end up, you know, waiting around and missing all these other potentials and opportunities because you’re waiting around for Giannis. So again, I think that the the Spurs are in very good shape. Stay the course, right? If the right trade comes along, if you can get Giannis for the right price or whatever, obviously you’re going to have to give something to get something. See a lot of like, you know, like, oh, just trade Vel Sohan and Kell Johnson for Giannis. Like come on, man. like you’re going to have to give up something. And I’m not going to give you honest free. But again, whether it’s Dylan Harper or Stefan Castler, whatever. Again, if if it’s the right price and it makes sense, if it makes dollars, it makes sense. But anyway, as always, this is a discussion pass question you uh let me know your thoughts and opinions down in the comments below. And hey, hey, feel what your thoughts. Um you know, do you do you want to see the Spurs go and make a big splash and go get Jiannis on Kumbo? What do you think? Like, no, stay the course. Draft the number two pick. Take Dylan Harper. It’s a no-brainer. And just, you know, continue to build and grow, right? Continue to slowly carve this thing out over the next few years, right? But you got to keep in mind, you don’t want, you know, you don’t want Victor Womenyama starting to get antsy, right? You don’t want Stefon, you know, uh, uh, not Stefan K, De’arren Fox, you don’t want him to start like, ah, may maybe this, you know, things could start going south pretty quickly, right? Like I’m not again not saying that you have to make everything takes time, right? So it’s a process, but you also don’t want to drag your feet too long. And that’s that’s what the Spurs are going to have to find out, right? Kind of create that fine line. Can they find that fine line? But again, however you feel. If we not trading the pick, then we will have to give up more then. Maybe castle , vassell , Barnes and some future picks, maybe a third team as well
Wait are you a spurs fan too? 😂 I thought you only covered the Lakers
