Mavericks Guard RETURNING…BOLD Move Incoming| Dallas Mavericks News
We have breaking news as the Dallas Mavericks are prepared to make a bold move this summer that will affect the roster for this upcoming season. And as we all know, the Dallas Mavericks are looking for a point guard. It is not a secret. We all know it. And on this channel, we’ve gone over the few candidates that we know the Mavericks are looking at. But there are a few players already on the roster that could easily fit the bill of what we’re looking for. So why go out and look for a player when there’s one right here? And just the other day, we got news that there is mutual interest between Dante Exom and the Dallas Mavericks to work out a deal to bring Dante back for the upcoming season. But that does make things a little bit tricky as far as our cap space, as the Mavericks are already in the second apron right after we draft Cooper Flag. So, in this video, we’re going to take a look at Dante Exom. How well did he play for us last season? What could he provide the Mavs for the future? And whether or not this is the right move the Mavs should make. But how’s it going everybody? My name is Marcel Martin. This is Mavericks Digest, bringing you the latest news on everything Mavericks related. And before I get started with today’s video, we’re currently sitting at 20,980 subscribers, only 1,020 subs away from our goal of 22K. But if you want to be up to date on everything Mavericks related all summer long as we deal with trade rumors, draft rumors, free agency rumors, make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss out on a single thing that we do. But the Dallas Mavericks are on the hunt for a point guard. We talked about Chris Paul and the fact that even though he’s 40 years old, he did play all 82 seasons last year, you could easily get him on a very, very cheap deal. We’ve talked about Lonzo Ball, how even though he did miss two seasons and only played about 30 games this season before having another injury. If healthy, Lonzo Ball only making 10 mil a year wouldn’t be that bad. And we also talked about Drew Holiday, how sure, if you could get Drew Holiday on a very cheap deal or at least a teamfriendly deal, you absolutely do it. But you really don’t want to pay your backup point guard 30 plus million dollars a year. That’ll only constrict you even more in the caps space situation that we currently have. But we need to talk about Dante XM. As it was reported just the other day, the Dallas Mavericks and Dante XM have mutual interest in hashing out a new deal per the Stein line. If we break it down a little bit further, uh despite rumors that he’s being targeted by the Turkish team, Finnerbos, I do apologize to all my Turkish fam out there, but the veteran guard Dante Exom is believed to prefer to remain in the NBA for the 2025 2026 season, reports Mark Stein of the Stein line. According to Stein, Exom and the Mavericks have mutual interest in trying to work out a new deal after he spent the last two years in Dallas. And that does make things a little bit tricky. And we’ll talk about the money later in this video. But Dante Exom missing significant time last year. He didn’t really play that well in the playoffs the year before as we’re trying to win the NBA Finals. Is Dante Exm the right person to bring back? How good is he when he’s actually available? So, let’s take a look at that right now. Let’s take a look at Dante’s stats for last season. For the very small amount of games he did play, he averaged 8.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.8 eight assists,2 blocks,6 steals, 1.1 turnovers, and 1.7 fouls per game while shooting 47% from the field and 43% from three. Those shooting percentages are not that bad. If it was a higher volume, he’s only averaging eight points. That’s what four four and a half shots a game, 1.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists. Those numbers don’t really jump at you, but you know what you’re getting with Dante. Yes, he’s 29. Yes, he’s dealing with injuries back to back to back it feels like. But the case for Dante is that you know him. He’s been here for two seasons. When he when we had Luca Donic alongside Dante and Kyrie, that three ball handler rotation that we had was amazing. Dante XM came up clutch for us in many, many games, hitting big-time shots. And the defense when Dante Exom returned this season, I was even surprised by how well he was playing. I really did think the Dante that we saw in the playoffs was just always Dante Exom. When he came back, he was very, very efficient. He had impact immediately from the first game that he came back. And the one thing that I that just stood out to me really was his defense. I think that’s the one thing that Dante can hang his hat on as a stronger suit in his repertoire of skills is that he is a good defender. And that is something that the Mavericks are breaching. His defense wins championships. Although the arguments against Dante bringing him back are twofold. One are the injuries. He dealt with the injury after the finals over the summer. He was playing in the FIA Cup, the Olympics, and he had an injury. Then during training camp, injured even further. He didn’t come back till late January, midFebruary, and even when he came back, he was out again with more injuries. He’s currently out with another injury. Dante Exom has the same problems that someone like Lonzo Ball has. But at least with Lonzo Ball that, yeah, he’s more expensive. You will probably get more out of him, but the problem still remains is the health. When the Dallas Mavericks ultimately make their decision on any point guard that we bring back, I think health has to be kept in mind. Kyrie Irving is coming back from a major injury. Anybody that’s going to occupy that space until he returns needs to be healthy. There’s no point in having two of your main point guards injured when you can keep more health health safe players, guys that aren’t injuryprone and will most likely have to miss time while Kyrie’s also missing time. Health is the name of the game. And that was our number one issue last season. And hopefully after a few people got fired, hopefully better people getting hired. That’s a problem that we won’t have to worry about next season. If we take a look right here, Dante Exom versus Spencer Denwy, which I think is very, very interesting because we don’t know about Spencer. We don’t know if he’s coming back, if he wants to come back, if it’s mutual interest. All we know is that Dante and the Mavericks, there is mutual interest. But comparatively, if I’m the Mavericks, I’m looking at Denwitty well before I’m looking at Dante. Denwidi’s value over his contract is absolutely insane. He played the most games out of any Maverick last year, 79. He only missed three games. He averaged 11 points per game, more than more than Dante. He had two rebounds, more than Dante. Four assists, more than Dante. 0.9 steals, relatively the same Dante. He had about the same blocks. Shooting efficiency wise, yes, Dante’s got him on the floor and from the three. Free throw percentage goes to Spencer. And I mean, I don’t have the numbers up here, but I’m pretty sure Spencer does average more turnovers than Dante. Turnovers were our issue all season long, but just looking at this alone, you’re telling me I got to choose between one of them as my backup point guard that will probably have to be my starter for a while. I’m looking at Spencer Denwy. Now, I’m not saying Dante doesn’t deserve to come back. He’s had some pretty good moments with the Dallas Mavericks. He he is a fan favorite to some people, but if you are serious about trying to win a championship, you need players who can stay healthy. You need players who can produce. And with the money issue that we currently have, well, that we will have after we draft Cooper Flag, we got to find a way to get out of that second apron and try to just live in the first apron. If we take a look at some of their contracts right here, Dante last season made 3.1 mil where Spencer only made about 2 mil. He’s cheaper. He’s more available. His stats are better. I mean, obviously Spencer has done some things that have really annoyed a lot of fans. He loves to go out there and think he’s Spencer Donuch. But regardless, Spencer, his value outweighs whatever money you have to give him. 2 million. Cool. He’s going to perform better than the other players on your team. And another thing that we definitely got to look at right here. I try to break down the whole situation between Dante, the money, what we can offer in this apron situation. In regards to Dante Exom, we own his early bird rights. Since he was on the team for two years, we can offer him at most the MLE. But since we’re in the second apron, we can we have access to the partial MLE, not the full MLE, which at most would be 5.3 mil per year. Very interesting. Since we’re looking for a point guard and bringing back Dante would affect our cap space situation. Shout out to my shout out to my good friend Big Jay. He broke it down. I called him before this video. Said, “Hey, why is this something that we’re doing? Is this a 3D chess move by Nico Harrison? Is he going to give Dante a contract just to bundle him up down the road and trade him? If we do bring back Dante, we will not be able to trade him until 6 months after, so middle of December if we do it fairly soon. But why would we bring back Dante over someone like Spencer over just foregoing both of those options and try to get someone else in the free agency market or through trades is very very interesting and it may be more telling than we thought. Do we know that maybe the front office is aware that players don’t want to come here? Do the front office, are they aware that other teams don’t want to talk to us for trades and deals? Because players like Lonzo Ball or even Kobe White for some people out there that do want Kobe White, some of these players we have to trade for. And if other teams don’t want to trade with the Dallas Mavericks after what happened in February, we may be stuck with Dante and Spencer. Maybe one or the other, maybe both. But I do find it pretty interesting. I don’t I do not hate Dante. I’m not a Dante hater. I think he’s great when available. The problem is he has not been available. But let me know what you think in the comments section down below. Do you think Dante would be a fine choice to bring back that he would at most make about 5 million a year to possibly play more than 20 games like he did last year? Or do you think there’s a better option out there and that Dante that could be an insurance policy in case no one wants to come to Dallas or we can’t make any trades? Sure, bring back Dante. Let me know what you think in the comment section down below. We can have a conversation about it. But that’s all I got for you guys today. Thanks for making to the video. Make sure you check out our Twitter and Discord links in the description below. And as always, y’all take care. Drink water. Peace.

Also…this changes everything! Love you Marcel!
Great move by Mavs. Exum is reliable at organizing the offence and as a big guard, an excellent defender/rebounder. Perfect backup PG on an elite team (if healthy). Still would like Paul to run the offence for the first 3-4 months.
notice how he said chris paul played all 82 seasons last year around 1:40 … Legend Chris Paul playing multiple seasons in one 😆
Exum way better spence trash
I’d love a 2 year min contract for him. He knows the system, and he checks all the boxes for a depth guard. Idk, but a resign seems fine by me.
Exum is talented for sure , but also the injury prone. And most important thing is salary cap, after signed Copper Flagg, we already reach 2nd Apron. So MAVS will prefer to trade the expiring contract player like Gafford/PJ for Point Guard and also clean the salary space. So it is low risk to happen to sign the Point Guard from FA market.
another terrible move …he will get traded by the deadline
cp3….period.
Just because they can pay Dante 5mil does not mean they will pay him that much. I'm an Aussie, and I love Dante, but I don't believe he deserves a pay rise.
I think Dallas can solve the PG issue in house. I would love to see BWill get a shot with Dante (at 3mil a year) backing up til Kyrie comes back
Sign Exam and run it
