Scott Van Pelt admits ‘failure’ in Pacers media coverage 😳 ‘It’s on all of us’ | SVPod

I’ve written something that I would do on Sports Center if they won and now now they have and we didn’t have Sports Center the night they won it. So we’re on this week I’ll do it I assume Monday just about the Pacers and really our failing and I mean us and anyone in media when it comes to the Pacers. There are some reasons why the the point the point that in the script that I’ve written is I’ll bet money that First Take hasn’t done segments on them during the regular season. I’ll bet money they haven’t. But that’s not knocking them because I know having done our show, we didn’t lead Sports Center with the Pacers like ever. Unless they were playing another starladen team. They were the other team opposite the Lakers, the Bucks, or whomever. Yeah. So, that’s on it’s on all of us to have to have missed it. But then I look back, they were sub 500 around the around the holidays. And that’s around the time that you’re like, “All right, well, what do we what do we got here, right?” Cuz you get the long winter, get to the spring and summer. But the things that we collectively missed is you have a guy in and Rick Carlile who is an NBA coach that’s won a title. You have a guy in Pascal Seakkum who’s been on a title winning team and a significant contributor who’s capable of scoring 30 plus multiple times in a conference final and won the conference MVP. See Hallebertton stuff forward. I didn’t I I wasn’t watch I turned it. It’s I mean people are clowning him for it. I mean I’m sure he I I assume I won. Well Hallebertton’s impact was monstrous. You have that guy. Then you have Hallebertton who’s an allstar starter and I get whatever that thing is now. Now, it’s not what the All-Star game used to be. He’s still an all-star starter. So, you’re checking a lot of boxes here for what we in media should be should be celebrating. And I made the like try to make an equivalent in my head of like if there were an NFL team with a coach who’d won a Super Bowl and a player who is an allpro all-star, a player who was a significant contributor to a Super Bowlinning team, they’d never be ignored the way the Pacers mostly were. And so all I can say is it’s great that they are going to get their attention now, but like looking back I give myself and I won’t cast dispersions to anybody. I’ll just give myself a failing grade as it relates to acknowledging the Pacers as potentially being what they were. When we talked East, we were like, it’s going to be it’s going to be Cleveland and and Boston. We draw a line under them. And the question was, if anyone, who might it be? You’re like, well, maybe the Knicks. And then the Pacers, well, they score really. Yeah, they score the crap out of the ball. Carl’s done it before. It was just they were hiding in plain sight. So, I just feel like collectively, hand up. Bad job from me to not acknowledge what they were or not acknowledge that they could have been this when they’ve already shown to a degree they they could. Now, they get their chance and they’re enormous underdogs against OKC. And I understand why. I mean, there’s a We talk about the relentlessness of Nemhart.

On SVPod, Scott Van Pelt discusses the “miss” in the media by failing to celebrate the Indiana Pacers in the media more throughout the regular season.

  1. Remember the entire espn staff selected Knicks? Absolutely nobody predicted the Pacers to win. Fk outta here riding New York. Big city don’t mean sht

  2. OKC blowing everybody out and getting two coaches in their conference fired and all we heard all year was that the Lakers and Nuggets were going to play in the WCF

  3. Y'all barely covered the Cavs too lol. We all know it's because it's Indiana lol and the Pacers at that. ESPN doesn't care about that fan base lol

  4. It's not just the pacers it's all small market teams in both NBA and the NFL you have first take and get up to thank for that!

  5. Win or lose this Finals, nothing is going to change about this next year. Especially if they lose.

  6. That’s a real sports journalist. Thanks SVP for addressing what Pacer fans have felt for a long time. Humility and accountability are virtues. Shows class. If I ever run into you at a bar, next round is on me…top shelf excluded.
