This Just Took a DRASTIC Turn… – Major Raptors Draft Updates | Raptors News

Everything just changed for the Toronto Raptors entering this year’s NBA draft. As of course, Common Malawatch has been the guy Raptors fans have looked at as the likely selection at the number nine overall place. Yes, the Toronto Raptors do have some other options at the center position with Yaka Purle and Ola Shamsh coming up in the wings, but Common Malawatch is that player that 95% of our comment section talk about in regards to this upcoming NBA draft. But new reports just dropped that revealed a major change in expectations for what Raptors fans can expect heading into this year’s draft. And frankly, it sucks. So, we’re going to dive into what this report is saying, what we can expect from this Raptors team and how things have changed in regards to our pursuit of players beyond just uh the big Giannis onto trade. So, lots of stuff to break down out here in this video. Folks, you guys been crushing it. Hit that subscribe button as of late. Of course, lots of madness happening with the Toronto Raptors here right now. So, if you’re part of the 52% that someone pointed this out in the comment section, I’ve been saying this wrong for weeks, but the 47% that haven’t hit the subscribe button just yet. Make sure you guys hit that sub button cuz clearly I can’t read. But let’s dive into it because if you’re not familiar, the Raptors do have the number five over number nine overall selection in the NBA draft. And common Mel watches a guy that basically everyone has looked at and said that is the right piece. That is the player that’s projected to land where the Raptors are drafting and you know should be the piece that we take given our need for a backup big Messiah Jury even though said he’s going to take the best player available said as much during his postseason presser following season presser saying that in this draft wherever we fall are going to go for the best talent available. This is the answer everyone gives but it’s a unique draft and we feel that we will have a talented player available and and we will try to get one that fits our ball club. Yeah, we need another young big. We would definitely look at that, but it’s not really what we are focused on to be honest. There are a lot of talented kids. So, he did point out the fact getting another young big is important. But, you know, best talent available is of course the approach. But when you have the best talent available and it’s a big young player that fits your system, you of course are going to go ahead and do it. Now, why are we all talking about common malwatch? Well, he is the piece that has projected to go to the Raptors. He’s linked. He’s a fit. You has that background in terms of Giants of Africa and stuff. Sai Jur is familiar with. So this is uh you know the guy that a lot of people were pointing to and it’s what a lot of people have projected him to actually land in the NBA draft. Basically uh from Takeathon they have Kalwatch getting mocked ninth to the Toronto Raptors. Uh this is coming from CBS Sports I believe. Ninth to the Toronto Raptors. Uh this is SI ninth to the Toronto Raptor. So what’s changed Ben? What’s going on? All these mock drafts still have common malaw watch here at this point. Well, we have some new updates and new reports going on as this is essentially uh come from Raphael Barlo analysis on NBA draft guy saying that another name that’s quietly gaining traction as a potential option for the Philadelphia 76ers is Duke freshman Common Malawatch. another player in the mix, uh, the Texas guard, Trey Johnson, listed 66, whatever. But in common mile watch, I’ve seen him get mocked as low as 20. And I think that’s absurd, him falling out there, even out of the top 10. But him being knocked up a peg up into the top three where the Philadelphia 76ers are drafting. That is big, big news in terms of his draft stock, in terms of how people are looking at him, how they’re looking at his camp workouts, and everything that’s happening here on that front. So right now, of course, the Raptors are drafting ninth overall. We can take a look at the, you know, full order of draft selections here. Right now, the Sixers are in the top three, and there’s potential they could select common malowatch with that selection. And as I said, that’s a significant jump. That’s a significant change in terms of what all the mock drafts and all these things are saying. And then a new report dropped this morning that essentially revealed more of this sentiment about him climbing up the ranks as essentially Jonathan Basserman came out and said that the buzz and interest have been snowballing to the point where scouts think Malwatch will be a strong possibility uh once Flag Harbor and Bailey are gone. So basically that indicates a top four selection. And in this mock draft that I uh pulled this from this quote from, they had him going number four to the Charlotte Hornets who again have been linked to VJ Edgecomb and different players out there at that point. So that is again the tide is turning in terms of the expectations of players that are going to be available at this spot. Of course, Cooper Flag, Dylan Harper seem to be according to all reports the two players that are going to go top two for sure. Ace Bailey by most projections, most uh discussions seems to be I don’t want to say a lock at number three, but now I count Malwatch and Trey Johnson are getting in the mix there. But outside of that, we’ve seen different orders, different amalgamations of players that are going to be available at all of these other selections. And that puts the Raptors in a very interesting spot because all these mock drafts, all these different things have different players available at all of these positions. and the Raptors. Yes, we do have uh you know Ola Shamshes, but getting young big has been that sort of piece that a lot of people are looking for. Now, of course, there could be some big trades happening with this Raptors team that completely shakes up the roster. So, you know, given all the reports, all the news that has come out, drafting for positional need doesn’t really go that far. And Shamsh is a guy the the franchise believes in. I mean, if we uh take a look at uh quotes, well, I I brought up the wrong quote, but Shamshi is a dude that Messiah Jerry said at the end of the season, you know, he was the lost rookie, the player that impressed a lot of Raptors scouts or Raptor scouts before he was drafted scouts, but people in the Raptors organization with his defense, how things were coming together in the G- League, and then of course dealt with an injury when he had the opportunity to come back at the end of the season and, you know, play in those last month and a half of games where it’s pure development basketball rather than going for wins. So that is all things to take into consideration. Shamshake could be in the mix and you know we do have a lot of guys at that center spot. Showed the stats Yaka Purle is that center of the future for this team. Present future unless a blockbuster trade exhibit it. You know 50 points per game, 10 rebounds, three assists really took his game to the next level last season and even hinted at a little development of a three-point shot which is very very exciting for Raptors fans. And the possibility of bringing Chris Buchche is still not off the table. So according to multiple sources, there’s mutual interest in having Buché return for his eighth season in Toronto. So bringing back Chris Buchet for next year is definitely still a possibility. So there are options, there are different developments, there are different ways that this Raptors team will have some more bigs out there on this uh on this team on this roster next year. But not having common malwatch available at number nine definitely hurts this team’s, you know, clear path in terms of what’s happening with the draft cuz basically all the Bucks they all have Malawatch going to Toronto and then things have changed. They’ve taken a major sort of adjustment there at this point. Another another mock having common Malawatch going ninth overall. So it’s uh that’s an unfortunate change. But then what who else who else is available if common malwatch is not there? Because you know guys like Trey Johnson and Jeremiah Ferris could be players that are at the guard position which of course is more loaded for this Raptors team that could end up uh falling. You know Canelo is a guy that impressed a lot of people out there in the tournament in terms of getting buckets in terms of being a wig scorer in terms of doing a lot of stuff out there on the basketball court. And one guy that we brought up a ton is uh you know the um oh his name is slipping but the 6ix9ine Russian point guard that I don’t think will be that piece that a lot of people be super excited about but definitely could have that high upside. Uh we’re going to break down a lot of these different players just solely off the fact that now Malawatch doesn’t seem to be as much of a lock as it really could be because you know Colin Murray Boils elite defensively but a lot of Raptors fans don’t like the fit of him on the roster and you know SNU is a player with a lot of high upside for this team and uh frankly could be one of those uh you know international prospects Mai Jury likes to bring into the system and have a couple years to develop and then they shock everyone once they uh you know become an all-star out there in their like fourth season. So, we’ll see how things play out. Let me know what you guys think about all this in the comment section down below. You guys best far. Subscribe to the channel if you guys haven’t already. Anyways, I’m signing out. Cheers.

  1. Lately it seems unless a short point guard is outstanding they really don't have much to bring to the table. A small forward can bring the ball up the court and pass.

  2. I'm not surprised.. the league is starting to look at big centers again.. its not all about 3 pointers now

  3. I honestly would not be upset if we end up with Cedric Coward, Carter Bryant or even Rasheer Fleming. I think all of those are going to have great careers with lots of upside and high floors. Also if we can move a few spots up from 39 we can get either Maxime Raynaud or Kirkbrenner both are NBA ready with many years of college play and can stretch the floor a bit and after this year can probably replace Poeltl in the lineup.

  4. would love to see Sabonis if we could get him for RJ and maybe like 2026 and 2028 firsts. If you added Sabonis and Maluach with the 9th this team would be scary. Like to see that than Giannis. If the 76th want Maluach why not move down to 4th, 5th or 6th and get assets and Maluach

  5. I’m hoping we draft Cedric Coward anyways so this would increase that chance. This fan base is way too obsessed with Khaman Maluach as if there’s no other good centers in the draft. There’s a few guys around his size in the draft that do similar things to him. They just didn’t play in the NCAA to get the hype behind them. the guy is expected go before we pick so you guys are just setting yourselves up for disappointment. Most of you guys are going to be sitting on your couch hoping and praying a guy that’s more than likely going to be off the board by the 7th pick falls to us and trust me that hope isn’t going to last long. Khaman Maluach Is not dropping to 9th so you guys better start looking at other opinions before you go into “the sky is falling” mode on draft night once he’s off the board. I don’t care what these mock drafts say.

Khaman Maluach won’t be on the board for the 9th pick. He’s the most hyped center in the draft and there’s a bunch of teams picking ahead of us that need centers so your hope’s are going to be dashed early on draft night. We’re not picking high enough to draft him so start looking into other Centers and stop putting all your stock into one center that’s going to be drafted before we pick.. There’s a few center’s in the draft over 7ft that provide rim protection and rebounding. Some raptors content creators just made videos upon videos on Khaman Maluach and it made the fan base think there isn’t any other centers that provide what we need. The whole focus on him and nobody else has led to desperation within this fan base and it’s because some raptors content creators are lazy and don’t want to highlight the other opinions.

  6. For me I rather drop down in this draft and get two picks. I would trade the 9th pick. I really want the Raptors to pick up Walter Clayton Jr. He's fantastic, I don't understand why he isn't a top 15 player in this draft. They have him being picked around 25-30. They are sleeping on this guy. His highlights are impressive. He can create his own shot. He can make a long range 3. He's got that dog in him. Perfect pg for my Raptors.

  7. This is all repeat of what you've shown a few times – you post MU's comments assuming he means Maluach, then you show the one mock draft that has Malauch going to the Raps, every video. The people wanting Maluach are the fans (who are the last people to give any advice on evaluating talent). Then to be so clumsy and say Maluach is the perfect back up – how the f@ck do you have a Raptors channel? On what planet do you think Maluach will be ready to play signifigant back up center minutes this season? You are an example of the type of evaluation skills fans have!

  8. Of course teams are rumoured to be interested in Maluach after the big 3 drop – they are all rebuilding teams – so that would makes sense. Are the Raptors a re-building team? The pick is being traded, if not before trade day or on trade, it will be after trade day – Raps are trade itchy right now!
