We got a lot of stuff uh to get to here today. The NBA finals are set. The NHL finals are set. Uh the Belmont Stakes is this weekend. We’ll have uh but no post positions set yet. that’s going to happen tonight. Yeah. Uh so we’ll uh we’ll have that covered for you on Thursday’s show. Uh also the NHL final is set. Stanley Cup final. The Edmonton Oilers and the Dallas Stars. We’ll get to that as well. Who said it coming up on the program today? Who said it? That’s right. And we got fish nuggets as well. I’m Rob Fisher. Lang Whitaker is alongside Hello Lang. How are you? I’m well. How are you doing? You’re I saw you won some awards this weekend. Took home some hardware. I did. Took home some hardware from Italian Fest. Uh, it was a great weekend of Italian Fest. I’ve always said you’re one of the my favorite Italians. That’s true. That’s that’s what many people say. Yes. A group, our team, the Holy Canoli, uh, you know, from Holy Rosary. We’re from Holy Rosary, the school there, Holy Canoli. Uh, we won best booth, best booth, and got a big trophy for it. What made your booth the best? It was lovely seating. You came in and it was uh it was welcoming and friendly and good music and great bartender and just nice people from the Holy canoli. I feel like you undersold the bartender part a little bit. Maybe you listed that like fifth. Well, bartender had to be nice. I just say, yeah, I saw the bartender a lot. Uh but it was fun and uh had some other friends who have tents. Went down and visited with them and ate a lot of great food over the weekend and uh the weather for the most part turned out to be great. the park wasn’t in terrible shape. And then last night they had almost Elton uh Elton John uh impersonator impersonator and he was fantastic or not last night, Saturday night and that man it feels like it was last night. Uh it was that he was fantastic. Uh that was a great show to put on and uh it was fun. It was it was a blast. Italian performed at the Grizzlies game. Do you remember like Yeah, he performed at one of the Grizzly games this year. Really? Toward the end of the season. Yeah. Oh, interesting. How was your weekend? What did you What did you uh do? Uh played a lot of golf. Yeah. Went out to Miramichi Saturday and then played at um Riverside yesterday and the weather was awesome this weekend, you know. So, yeah, did a lot of cooking out, sitting outside. Um a lot of cleaning around the house, that kind of stuff. Spring cleaning. Mhm. So, yeah. Watch a lot of sports on TV. Yeah. I was going to cut the grass, but then, you know, I was at Italian Fest all weekend. Oh, yeah. It was priorities. And you won the award and won the And then yesterday I was at the pool so I didn’t have time to cut the grass. We’ll see if I get to that today or tomorrow. Maybe pay someone to cut my grass. I see. We did but then it it just Yeah. It’s awesome though. Like I had to cut a lawn mower when I was a kid. I cut the grass. That was my job. You were talking about finding a job for your daughter. I used to cut the grass when I was a kid. Uh like for the neighbors, my uncle, whoever. And I think I made like 10 bucks a yard or something. But now like I I don’t have to cut the grass anymore and I don’t ever want to cut the grass again. I cut the grass two weeks ago for the first time in 25 years and it was terrible. I remember my hands and I remember why I hate it. It’s because your hands vibrate afterwards and the bag fills up so quick and it’s like I got to empty. I never had the bag all over the place. Uh CJ Herz is here as well. CJ, how are you sir? I’m well. I’m well. Yeah, good weekend. Lang and I were corresponding. Oh yeah, we both made ribs on the on the Instagram. made ribs for the first time. I need to get out there into the yard. It’s been a while since I gave it a good mo jobs. Some some edging as well. So, I need to get out there blowing. I love edging. I love mo jobs. I love blowing. So, we got to get out there and get the trifecta. How did your ribs turn out? They They turned out uh not bad for somebody who did it for the first time. It was It was good. It was good stuff. find it up uh seasoning overnight and then uh just took it straight from the foil onto the grill and then when it’s when it’s cooked so it gets the grill and the char took it out of the foil, placed it straight onto the onto the grill and then let it get get some of that char and some of that smoke in there. I made ribs um Saturday. I went by somewhere fresh market. They had ribs on sale. So I was like, “All right, let me make ribs.” I made a rack of ribs and they were probably the best ones I’ve ever made. I’ve like just gotten I’ve done it enough time. I’ve got the reps in, you know, and I’ve gotten good at it. So, I did the 321 method where you do three hours uh like smoking uncovered. You wrap it up in foil. I actually put some apple juice and butter and some barbecue sauce in there too. You wrap it up. So, you do the three hours uncovered, two hours in the foil. Then, you undo it all, put some sauce on, do one more in the grill by itself. Well, you put the liquid in. That’s that keeps it from drying back out. Right. Like that. And you can you turn it upside down. So it’s like the bone side up so the meat’s sitting in all that juice. So it kind of brazes, I guess, like in there, you know, and then when you put it back in there, it was it was they were great. They were like, you know, tender and juicy, but not like you don’t want them where it’s like you can’t even hold it before it falls off the bone. It needs to have some. Mine mine came straight off the bone. Like I pulled the bone out. I’ve seen people do that, too. That sounds good. Congratulations. Well, thank you. Thank you. I look forward to to being a lang one day and and being more of an expert. It didn’t take near as long as I thought it would. Yeah, you can cook ribs like I mean if you just put them on the grill, you can cook them fast. You got to almost keep the heat lower than you think, you know, like they need love though. They do need it. They need love. They need love. Uh one other thing that happened over the weekend, uh CJ, uh the UFL season, regular season came to a close. Uh the showboats not a good showing in the final game. No, they got wax 46-9. I do believe there was at some point the the Stallions who will be hosting the um USFL I think that’s their conference USFL championship. Um at a certain point they just dropped a defensive lineman off into coverage. He got a tip on a pass and uh the secondary uh picked it off, ran that back for a pick six. One of the one of the interesting things to come from that game though is this new grenade formation. I don’t know if you guys have heard about this. It’s all the rage in football right now. Um where you send 11 offensive linemen out there on the field and say, “Hey, go get us a yard.” And it is. You got your five linemen up front. Then you’ve got three linemen offset um behind that line and then you got your tight end catching the snap and then running. And so everybody on the line blocks down and then those three linemen go up and they push out and then your tight end just forward. Yes. I I think this is sounds like this is better than the tush push. It’s it’s super interesting and everybody is saying that it’s going to sweep the NFL this season. So, don’t be surprised. Don’t be surprised if you see that. Are are the uh I guess it’s going to be a yearly question. Are the showboats back next year? I would think so. You mean do you mean like back in Memphis or just like around? Are they good? Do you mean? No. Are they back? Are they Are they in the city? I mean, I think if the whole league comes back, they’re back. The money is here. that the league has the the reason the Alliance went when the Alliance did and is no longer around is because the the USFL was coming through and the XFL was coming through after that. And so they wanted to be the first one and try and corner the market and grab the market. Well, because the USFL and XFL, who have since combined to make the UFFL, since they waited a little bit, they were able to get more funding for it and to get more uh startup dough for it. So they they accepted the fact, hey, the first five to six years, we’re not going to make any money off of this thing. It’s about what happens after that. Can we generate enough interest in the product for us to make money and can we partner with the NFL? And that’s something that they were big on was partnering with the NFL and they have done a good job of doing that. So, I will say that yes, the the showboats are back in the in the city, but not because attendance or anything like that, just because it’s already been built into what the league is. Well, the real question, right, is like, does the league need to exist? Why do we do we need it? Yeah. Do we need the the UFFL? Do like I don’t know. I mean, that’s that’s that’s what they’re trying to combat. And that’s why, okay, from a fan standpoint, do we need a lesser football league in the spring? Uh, clearly no. All these other leagues have come and gone. I think this is the eighth um professional football team in Memphis from one of these nine foot non NFL leagues, but I think what they’re trying to do is partner with the NFL. We’re going to be a place for you to test out rule changes with there was a there was a super challenge in the uh in the game on Sunday. That’s where you challenge anything. You get one of those. You just challenge it. And on that interception, the quarterback was face mask. Like the defender came through, hit his face mask, and there was a slight pull to it. Um so nothing was thrown. But you have to be real specific in what the super challenge challenge is. So you can’t say, “Hey, whatever. I want I want to I want to challenge the rough and the passer cuz that’s what they ended up doing. Challenge the rough and the passer and they were like no it was a face mask so we’re going to let it let it slide and keep the game going. Um but things like that the the chips and balls that sort of stuff the the way that the officials are and balls. Yeah, chips and balls. Okay. Like the the So you don’t have to worry about the the line crew so much. Uh yeah, chips and balls. Let’s get it going. Um, so yeah, that that they’re trying to be a place for the NFL to test out rules and changes to the game. And I think there is a need for that. Is there a need for us as fans to to watch football in the spring, uh, lesser football? Probably not. But if it’s a place for the NFL to test out new, uh, equipment, gadgets, rules, then then yeah. All right. Uh, also this weekend, the College World Series started with the regionals. This is when I kind of start to get interested really when the regionals are over and we get into the super regionals where we are now. But the biggest shock, the two top seeds in the College World Series, Vanderbilt and Texas already both ousted. Georgia got knocked out too. That’s like three of the top eight teams in the SEC got 13 of 14 in. And Florida lost too, I think. And Miss has a deciding game tonight against Murray State. There’s a a lot of those teams lost to weird teams. Like Georgia lost to Oklahoma State, but like uh Vandy lost to Wright State. Texas lost to UTSA. Florida lost to some team. I don’t remember who it was, like Coastal Carolina or something like that. Tennessee or somebody like Yeah. All those teams lost to like these kind of one-off teams. I guess that’s baseball, right? If it’s one game, like your pitcher going to have a bad day. I I think the College World Series is probably the hardest championship to win in sports. Really? Why? Because it’s one and done. because it’s there are so many teams in this tournament. You know, when you get to the regionals alone and baseball’s a sport that you can you’re playing another good team, you could lose on any given day. I mean, we say it in the big leagues, even the Rockies for how terrible they are. Well, they have won nine games, you know. So, you’re going to win games uh in baseball and you’re going to lose games just based on the fact of the game and and and how it’s played and and playing good teams. So, you’re going to get a lot of surprises, but to have to go through your conference tournament, then you have to go through the regional, then to go through the super regional just to get to Omaha, and then what you have to do in Omaha with it being double elimination is just so difficult. I I think it’s I think it’s the hardest championship to win. And, you know, there are coaches who have gotten or who have fallen short of getting to the World Series maybe enough times for what their fan base wants, but it’s so difficult. And when you finally get there, it’s like, boy, your job’s just getting started when you get to Omaha, too. So, uh, I I I think it’s I I think this time when you get to the super regionals, it’s very interesting to watch and and it’s a lot of fun because you can get teams that you just don’t expect to get there. I watched some of the the softball super regional last night or whatever is the and UCLA was playing Tennessee and it was like a whole controversy. The girl didn’t step on home plate on her home run because everybody was celebrating, right? And one of her teammates grabbed her and was like, “Oh, step on the plate.” And she did and but you’re not allowed to guide somebody to the plate. So, it didn’t count. And then they had to go to extra innings and Tennessee won in extra innings. But, uh, it was a crazy finish and I don’t know, it’s a lot of fun. That’s awesome. Florida lost to East Carolina. Yeah. Uh, Tennessee lost to Wake Forenness or Coastal Carolina. So, I split the difference between the two. I’m not sure if Tennessee is out of it, but yeah. To today, uh, USC takes on Oregon. So, Wake Forest and Tennessee play one more game and then Murray State and Old Miss are playing. Yeah, it’s easy. So, good luck. Some of the teams had to play double header yesterday, too. Like, I mean, there’s a It’s a lot. It’s crazy. It’s really hard, man. Um, yeah. So, that’ll be a lot of fun to watch. We’ll be keeping up with that on the odds couple over the next few weeks as well. Plus, we had the Champions League uh final over the weekend. PSG knocking off Inter Milan, and it wasn’t even close. We talked about what a great game it was going to be. It was not a great game as PSG wins it five to nil and they are the champions. Scored two goals in the first 20 minutes of the game and go for the blowout. We did give you the winner uh in PSG. I had uh I had both teams to score. That did not happen. Uh, so that was a little disappointing, but um it was uh it it was an interesting game for about 20 minutes. Uh and then then it got real interesting uh after the game. Have you seen the riots? Two people did. Yeah, they were they were tearing up the the great city of of Paris and police had to get involved. Hoses, tear gas, fireworks are are being used also. like it was we we talk about our sports over here and how passionate these fans are. I hope that there is a line cuz I don’t ever want to be a part of whatever the hell they were on over there in Paris. The ultras are the fans of PSG who are like the the super violent and crazy ones. Like I was in Paris 16 17 years ago with my with my wife and both of our parents. We took our parents all to Paris and PSG had a game. Now, this is before PSG like became the the cool team with, you know, like Messi and all these guys. But when we got over there, I knew somebody at Nike and they got me tickets to a PSG game. So, my dad and I were going to go to the game. They had canled the previous three games because the police had shot a fan at one of the previous games and it had been too violent. So, they had to like take some time off, let things cool down. We had tickets to the first game back from all that. We got we took the subway to the arena uh the stadium the Stad France I believe and we got there park parked something but anyway we get there and the game starts and uh it was like they were losing one- nothing and I’m like oh man this is going to suck like it’s you know like after all that you lose one nothing. I think they ended up tying or winning. I don’t think they lost but I remember we left the stadium and we walked out in we left early. We left with like 15 minutes left. I was like, “Let’s get out of here.” And we walked out and there was a thousand cops with guns and riot gear and everything already like circling the stadium and everything. I was like, “Man, let’s just hop on that metro and get get to the other side of town as fast as we could.” And that was like, you know, a long time ago. Like, now it’s even less usually at the games it’s less scary like that because the tickets cost so much that they’ve priced out a lot of the more violent crazy fans and a lot of the England soccer, but all over Europe too probably. So now it’s it’s less like that. But I guess like those PSG fans, you know, like they’ve had these amazing teams the last five, six years, and to finally get this win in European competition for them, it was something. Wow. Uh yeah, let’s let’s draw that line. I’m with you. Draw draw the line at people getting shot after win, right? Like Philly was was insane. That’s the one that immediately comes to my mind when I think of insane city like champion celebrating a championship. They’re climbing flag poles after they’ve already been greased down. They’re knocking out horses. They’re eating horse poop. They’re eating horse dookie. See in New York during this series with the Pacers and how they were wondering what’s that going to be like if they win trash at people like you’re like so wondering what that was going to be like. But that did not happen because the Indiana Pacers knocked off the New York Knicks in six games as they advanced to the NBA finals. And the Indiana Pacers, uh, they they proved over the course of that, uh, that series they were they were the better team. And the key was, you know, were they going to be able to run the Knicks out of the gym and it felt like they did. Yeah. I mean, because they also have like 10 players who can play and the Knicks had like six that they eliminated the Pacers eliminated the Knicks and they eliminated Reggie Miller from the postseason, so we don’t have to listen to him anymore, which is good. That’s good. Um, yeah, I just I thought the Pacers were going to win that series and and they seemed like they did it pretty easily. Um, I mean the the Knicks had their moments. Uh, it’s funny. Did you read all this stuff in the Athletic like the postseason Knicks postmortem that came out and they all just blamed Cat for every now? Now it’s all like, oh, it was Cat’s fault. Didn’t play defense right. I don’t know. They could, the Knicks couldn’t get a stop on the Pacers, but that fourth quarter, the game five, whatever it was, like they they were just the Pacers scored every time down the court and you know, like what are you going to do if you’re the Knicks? It’s funny for a Tom Thibido team to you know, he’s Mr. defense invented like when you ice a guy when they go baseline and all this stuff and like that was all he cared about with the Bulls is defense. This next team plays no defense at all. They’re not going to get better with Brunson out there. You’ve got to have the players necessary to play defense, right? Like they’ve got they’ve got OG Anobi. They’ve got Muel Brid. They have good players. Yep. And they also have defensive liabilities in Brunson and Cat, right? Like it’s you you have to have the talent to be a scorer. You have to have the talent to be a a good defender as well. Have to have the talent. You have to understand what the defensive assignments are. And from that article, the thing that I I took away from it was, “Oh, Cap doesn’t understand how to play defense.” No, he just doesn’t have it up in the in the head. No, it’s No, it I I don’t think that it is a care thing with him. I think that it is like, yo, I’ve I’ve always been the biggest dude on the court and so things for me defensively just sort of happened and now at the NBA level and he’s been in the pros for quite some time. It’s I I didn’t grow up doing this. So, I have no clue what you guys are talking about. Cat had one block in this series. Yeah. Right. Like that’s that you would think he’d luck up and get two. He’s sort of like one. I was going to say he’s sort of like Jiren though. Jiren gets blocked shots though. But he’s he doesn’t play at the rim, right? He’s always out at the three-point line. There was one clip I didn’t use on who said it where the Knicks are down 20 and he takes a 30 something footer and Shaq says, “If that’s on my team, we’re going to have a fight in the locker room. We’re down 20. You’re taking 30 footers.” You know, like he’s always out at the perimeter. So he’s not under the rim a lot. And I guess against that Knicks team, you know, there was time, I mean, against the Pacers, there was times he’s guarding Miles Turner. He’s always on the, you know, everyone spaces it out now, but Cat doesn’t really do much of anything other than shoot threes. And I and I think that’s the I think there were assignments where Cat should have been closer to the paint and he just wasn’t there. And I I think if I remember correctly, PJ Tucker player only meeting was like, “Hey, we’re out of position.” And by we, I mean you, Carl Anthony, you’re out of position. When Josh Hart’s on the floor, yeah, you can put whoever your worst defender is on Hart and then put a better defender on Cat and you know, you saw him struggle going one-on-one against guys picking up fouls and his and his knee isn’t isn’t right. Not an excuse, but is a a thing. He did have a couple of monster performances in the series. He had that monster fourth quarter 20 point fourth quarter performance and he had a pretty good I I think I can’t remember the stats exactly, but I thought he had a damn good game. five to send it back to to Indie. Um, so it is I I think that all in all he is a net positive, but defensively there’s no doubt that if you’re running, no matter how good OG and Bridges and Hart are defensively around Cat and Brunson, they they need some some serious help defensively. And unfortunately for them, they gave up five picks to get Bridges. So what what assets do you have available, y’all? If you want to get better, you’ll have to get rid of one of those dudes in the starting five. I I think at the end of the day, like that’s as far as you can go probably with Brunson as your team leader, best player. Yeah, I’m not mad at that. I I I’ve It reminds me of the Celtics with Isaiah Thomas 10 10 years ago, whenever that was, when you know, you have a ball dominant little guy who’s your best player and everyone else is going to pick on him defensively. He he doesn’t pass the ball a lot and he’s gonna score 30 something 40 points a game, but there’s not enough help around you. Like I mean I mean they made it to the semi-finals. They you know maybe you just say I mean conference finals you’re like all right. I mean everything you read about the Knicks it seems like this was a failure. Yeah. Which is crazy. I mean they got to the conference finals and and especially being a team going into the playoffs where it was said much like it was said about the Grizzlies, they couldn’t beat anybody good. Yeah. Uh, so to get to the conference finals, I mean, I I think it’s a pretty successful season, but I think you’re right. Not just the Brunson thing, but this team, I think you you reached a ceiling. Yeah. Which means, all right, now you’re going to have to tweak it some way. Not having assets is going to make it very difficult on this team, but they got rid of him, you know, like, well, you you had to get rid of assets to get this start. This is a damn fine starting five, I think. Uh, now once you get to seven is okay. Well, what are we doing here? Uh, Don Don, I didn’t even know he was on the Knicks. All right, we we’ve got we’ve got a big old drop off. Hell, I didn’t think Tibido knew he was on the Knicks. We didn’t see Don Wright at all in the playoffs until until Tib was like, “F it. We got to throw dudes out here, man. We can’t keep running these guys 40 plus minutes and expect them to have enough gas.” Might have been helpful if he thought about that in February. I it might what would have really been helpful if they didn’t blow game one. They they don’t blow game one and everything plays out the same. Game seven is tonight in New York and you got a chance. You can’t in the playoffs, man. Those those types of losses, they end up coming back to bite you in the ass, man. Yeah. The uh in hockey, the Edmonton Oilers have advanced to the Stanley Cup final where they will take on the Florida Panthers for the second consecutive year. The uh Edmonton Oilers knocking off the Dallas Stars in five games. and it’ll be Florida against Edmonton in the Stanley Cup final. Um, a rematch of last year, which I think is great. The Edmonton Oilers are now 12 and two after going down 02 against the Los Angeles Kings in the first round. They’ve won 12 of their last 14 games. Uh, pretty darn impressive. Should be a great series. I’m looking forward to it. I know you’ve been on the Florida Panthers bandwagon for a while, CJ, and rightfully so. They look like the best team in hockey, but Edmonton’s got the best player and that’s going to give them a chance. Did they have them last year also? They sure did. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, it’ll give them a chance. Absolutely. Any anytime you got the best guy on the ice, you absolutely have have a chance. I’m looking right now, uh, the Panthers are at plus 110 and I forget what they were a month ago when I said at the start of Stanley Cup, go ahead and take the the Panthers. Um, but yeah, I just think the Panthers are so good. So deep. These two. Edmonton is minus 130. Edmonton is favorite. They’re the favorite. You got the best player on the court on the ice. Excuse me. And you’re at home ice. And you’re at home home ice. Um, yeah. I I would I’m trying to find a um a a future on when the series ends because I would I would say Panthers in and six is is where I’m leaning right now just because of the depth and the talent that they have. I’m gonna go with uh and I’m only doing it because I’m rooting for them. I I I feel like Florida’s a hard team to bet against. Um they’re they’re kind of like the Alabama to me of college football where, you know, I if I bet Edmonton, I’d feel stupid if I lose that bet because I think Florida’s the better team. But I’m rooting for Edmonton. So, uh in game one at least, I’ll go with the Oilers and uh we’ll see where the series goes from there. But I’ll take uh I’ll take Edmonton in seven. Uh I think if Edmonton wins, it’s going to have to go long. uh long series because Florida is that good. But if Florida wins, I I’m with you. If you’re going to bet Florida, I’ I I’d bet it in five. Uh you know, or six between Edmonton and Indiana. Maybe this is small market summer. Hell, Oklahoma City is also a small market. And isn’t Miami, don’t we consider Miami is a glamour city? I think Miami is a small market. I mean, if you count Fort Lauderdale, too, I think that’s where the stadium is, right? Like it’s sunrise. Yeah. Whatever that is. Wherever that is. Yeah. All right. Uh, all right. A couple of big beats from the weekend. How about uh how it’s it’s really chef’s table. Uh, Scotty Sheffller is has been just dominant. The shortest time between the first and 16th wins of their career. It took Sam Sneed two years, 6 months, and one day. Jack Nicholas 3 years, 1 month, 22 days. Tiger Woods three years, three months, three days. And Scotty Sheffler three years, three months, and 19 days to win 16 event. And he’s when he’s doing it, he he’s dominating. I mean, he’s leaving no doubt and just running away with it. He is I mean it’s it’s stupid to even say he’s clearly the best golfer in the world and is doing it so consistently week in and week out. I was I wanted to watch the memorial yesterday and it just wasn’t competitive. Like he had such a big lead and you’re like, “All right, somebody can who’s this Ben Griffin? Let’s go, man. Somebody make a run.” And there was no run to be. There was never a moment of drama. Sheffler had it and he’s so boring too. Like he’s just like I saw somebody on Twitter saying like, you know, he never like interacts with the fans. Like you he’ll walk through and everyone’s got their hands out and he just just goes he’s like AI. I don’t know. It was it was so weird to watch. I mean it takes some of the fun out of it a little bit, but I mean I guess if if you like watching greatness, tune in. Yeah, no kidding. He is pretty special. All right. Uh number two, uh anchored down, and it’s not in a good way. Uh anchored down for Vanderbilt with a 5-4 loss to Wright State on Sunday. Vanderbilt became the first number one seed to fail to reach the regional final of the NCAA baseball tournament since the current format was adopted in 1999. The first to not reach. The Commodores dropped two straight games on their home field after winning their opener on Friday. So, we talked a little bit about that earlier. Disappointing. Vanderbilt and Texas both eliminated top two seeds in the NCAA baseball tournament. Uh and then Rocky times not good for the Colorado Rockies. Not good for the Rockies. Good for us better with Sunday’s loss. It’s amazing when you’re betting Rockies games right now. I mean there was a game last week where I think it was the Mets against the Rockies and the Mets were minus 400. I mean you got to you got to give two and a half runs just to come even. Uh but with Sunday’s loss, the Rockies became the first team in baseball’s modern era, that’s uh since 1901, to reach 50 losses before they got 10 wins. The last team to reach 50 losses before 10 wins was the 1884 Kansas City Cowboys, who started the season 750 and two. The 1884 season was the franchise’s only year in operation. The Cowboys disbanded after the season when the uh Union Association dissolved. Rockies are 9 and 50 on the season. And this is if you go to the stats, I have I’ve grabbed the wrong notebook, Rob. I had to run run out and get the the other one to get make sure I have all these stats right. But they are dead last bottom five in everything you can imagine. They are so historically bad. You’re not supposed to be this. You know how bad it is? The Braves waved Orlando Arcia, the shortstop, who’s an all-star two years ago and has just been awful for the last year. He’s starting for the Rockies. Like that’s that’s we could go out there. We could go out there and play Enfield for the Rockies right now. Starting for the Rockies. They signed him like three days ago. Yes. He had a home run. He had a home run yesterday. Like, all right, man. What a disaster they are. Unbelievable. All right, we’ll take a break uh here on the Odds Couple. When we come back, what’s next? Who said it comes your way? Who said it? Who said it? That’s next here on the Odds Couple on Grand City Media. Grizzlies fans know it’s the team that gives you the edge. Big River Steel does, too. I’m Lang Whitaker alongside Rob Fisher, CJard. It’s the Monday Show. You know what that means? More intellectual. More emotional. Yes. Some say I don’t know what’s I can’t think of another one. Intimate. Intimate. More intimate. Yeah. Sensually. sensual perhaps even that. It’s time for who said at the game show. It’s been sweeping the nation from sea to sea, from Memphis to Bristol, Connecticut. And um we always start with some bonus clips, guys. Yeah. Uh this is from the uh Calaveris County frog jumping competition. I don’t know if you guys saw the most recent frog jumping. Got a little money on it. You have a you have a minute to get your frog to jump out of the whatever. And uh this girl came up with a unique uh technique to get the frog to jump out of the the the thing. Watch this. We have Brooklyn Wagner with Mama Mia. Watch this. [Applause] It’s I think the screaming was the effective part. Screaming was the effect. But wouldn’t everybody be screaming? I was think like Jump. Yeah. Wouldn’t you just like stomp next to the frog and yell like, “Go, dumb frog. Jump frog. Jump.” Yeah. Screaming. I think her screaming was the key. And while the pounding on the ground. Yeah. Like diving on the ground next to the frog. Looked like it was making the frog jump. So good. Good for her. Good job. All right. Congrats. Uh, one of our favorites here on who said it, of course, besides Jameus Winston. Thank god. Not Jamus. I was afraid it was Jame. Although I did find a Jamus clip of Did you see? They somebody posted a clip of him playing baseball at Florida State. Oh yeah. And he reposted it. It was him like just hosing a guy from left field at third base. Yeah. Awesome throw. Uh Jamus, besides Jameus has been Xavier Legette who has been on sort of a media tour. Uh he went to the Carolina Hurricanes hockey game. Oh. And sat in the front row behind the glass and was miked up for the game. Uh let’s take a look at this. Hey, you ain’t tell me the hockey balls go flying over here, man. Oh boy. Oh, boy. These folks going crazy, boy. Yeah, they doing that thing, boy. He got down cold boy right in front of you, boy. What’s my boy name from? OKC with the [Applause] [Applause] Braz Oh. I got stand but I b I ain’t know you like this. Damn. [Applause] Oh [Applause] jeez. No. Hell no. Hell no. Come on, K. Come on, Mike. Come on. Just a little defense, K. Come on now. Come on now. Just a little defense. [Applause] I ain’t going to lie. I’m going be I wish they didn’t have the words up there cuz I wouldn’t I wouldn’t have known what he was saying. I know. It’s quite an experience. Like I have you ever been to I’ve been in Have you you’ve been to NHL games. Have you ever been to one, too? I’ve been to uh minor league when the River Kings were here. That’s bachelor party. That’s where we went and hung out. Yeah, it’s fun in person. It’s way more fun. I can see why he would enjoy it so much. Yeah. All right, let’s get to who said it. As you know, we find clips from people at press conferences or similar public situations and try to guess who said these things. Clip one, Ben Griffin’s a nice player. Sea is a nice player. Nick Taylor’s a nice player. She knows those guys are not in his league. Who said it? Uh, apparently we’re going graphic list today. Some some weeks we have some some weeks we have graphics. Who you got? Rob, I don’t know. I Whenever I hear someone talking golf, I think of Brandle Shambbley being the guy. But, uh, I’m He’s the And I uh he’s the hater of Liv. Yeah, he’s the hater of Liv. Um, but I’m trying to think of who I mean because I had the broad I was at the pool so I was watching it with no sound. So I don’t know who was like doing who’s on the broadcast. Nance was the the head guy. Yeah, but that’s not a Nancy thing to say. No, Nance would never. I don’t know, man. F it, Tiger. Let’s get it. Let’s go. We can roll the clip. I mean, Ben Griven’s a nice player. Stick Scop is Se is a nice player. Uh Nick Taylor’s a nice player. Those are all the guys that were there basically coming down the stretch. And but he knows that those guys, you know, are not in his league. Wow. How about Jack? Wrong legend. Yeah. Well, the picture’s got him in there. How about that? Oh, it does. Yeah. So, you were close. There we go. All right. Uh, we met. That was a good one. Jack. Jack. Strong words from Jack. We asked uh someone in the room earlier asked CJ about different betting apps. Uh, this quote was, “Fanuel only lets me bet so much, so I got to have a bookie on the side.” Who said it? Joey Otani. Let’s go. No, it was it was his translator. Okay. Uh, Jonte Porter. It is a It is a former basketball player. Oh, yeah. Charles Barkley. Roll it. Hey, FanDuel only lets me bet so much. So, I got to have a booty on the side. Sure. Sure. Are you trying to get kicked out? You’re trying to get kicked out of the stream like Marshaw got kicked out of last game. I like how I like how when Charles Barkley does those like uh things on Zoom, he wears those glasses like media. Like they’re huge. His head looks so small. I know. They’re like the biggest glasses any person’s ever worn. They’re giant. I don’t understand why. like let’s get some other glasses, Chuck. Anyway, that was Charles. All right, clip three. Reporter says, “What was the problem with the offense today?” The coach says, “We didn’t score enough runs. Issue.” Reporter says, “Yeah, it was so different from the last couple of weeks.” Coach says, “Have you played playoff baseball, Arya? It was tough pitching on both sides. We’re pitching hard. They’re pitching hard. Two good teams.” You realize that, right? These are good pitchers on the mound. These are battles. Who said it? I’m I’m assuming this is uh college baseball and I’mma say Vanderbilt. I don’t know their their baseball coach. Is that who it is? Yeah, that’s who I was going to go to. Yeah, let’s You guys nailed it. Hello. Oh, he a jerk. Come on, man. Come on, Tim. Yeah. I mean, I get they lost, but still like that the the the temper tantrum that he threw is one that I would expect somebody at Vanderbilt to throw also. Right. Like that that real like, oh, I’m I’m looking down on you. You you Andy never played playoff baseball. No, he he didn’t. He was like, “Are you played playoff baseball?” Like he knows the answer. He throws it out there rhetorically. Yeah. Like we know, dude. I get you’re upset, but this part of the job, you know, like just what what was the issue with the offense today? We didn’t score enough runs. Couldn’t get it going. Their pitching was great. It was tough game. There’s your answer. Boom. Done. Keep it moving. Now you get to go viral, Tim Corbin. Good job, Cor. Appreciate that. All right. Clip four. Announcer one says, “I got a lot of respect for Strider after that. Wish he wouldn’t have hit Bryce.” Announcer two said, “He said he’s not a sociopath and he has empathy.” Announcer one says, “I don’t know what empathy means, but I’m sure sociopath would come into the conversation speaking about myself.” Who said it? Is it Is it Brandon? Brandon, what’s his name? Gordon the roy voice of the Braves. Could be, but it’s not. That’s a That’s a John Crook. Got a lot of respect for Strider after that. Wish he wouldn’t hit Bryce, but Well, he said he’s not a sociopath. Well, not many. He has empathy. Not many of us are. I don’t know what empathy means, but I’m sure sociopath would come into the conversation speaking about myself. Crookies. When when was this? Was this It was last week. So the the strider, Spencer Strider hit Bryce Harper in game one of the series in his bad elbow and they had to take him out of the game. first inning of the game, he didn’t mean to hit him, but he drilled him and all the Phillies fans were like furious and there Strider I mean Harper comes out and they’re worried like maybe it’s long term whatever and after the game Strider apologized and he was like I didn’t mean to do on purpose and then in this game AJ Smith Shaver Braves starter gets hurt and our the Braves great manager doesn’t even notice it leaves him in the game Strider notices it from the bench walks over tells the manager hey go check on him they go out there he’s got a torn UCL ligament Thankfully, Spencer Strider noticed it. But that’s what they were talking about. Strider. Strider. He got a lot of respect for Strider because he noticed it and went over and told the manager to look at it. Cru is the reason why we have uh National Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month in June. You say, “How do you not know what empathy is?” I’m sure. That’s a great quote. All right, clip five. Reporter says, “Have you ever seen a player draw 16 fouls?” And the player says SGA. This is a player. Uh, that’s I was going to say you, but is is a is a player. I would have said 20 30,000 fouls. Uh, is it a teammate or is it an opponent? I’m going to go with Jaylen Wells. It’s in the W. It’s Sabrina. Yeah. Oh, it is Sabrina. Sabrina. Have you ever seen a player draw 16 fouls? Never. She was She didn’t want to She didn’t want to lose and that was a good thing. I mean, she’s joking. It came to mind pretty quick. It’s pretty good. She She drew a bunch of fouls. I forget which game that was, but she drew a drew a bunch of fouls. She’s no SGF. I guess I guess fever. It might have been the Fever game, maybe. I can’t That’s whose jersey I would buy. Sabrina. Yeah. Really? Yep. I don’t like her. You don’t? No, I think she draws fouls. I think she’s a front runner like SGA. No, I think she’s I think she’s a front runner. SGFTA. SGA is fine. Lane SA is MVP. Sabrina’s not. Well, let’s go to this. Another clip six. A reporter asked somebody, “What does this player need to work on?” The coach said, “Foul drawing. You see what gets rewarded. We need to kind of lean into that a little bit. Even though it’s not necessarily how he likes to play, but it seems to be effective.” Who said it? And I don’t have the video of this, but I It’s a transcript. Foul drawing. So, who who played I’m going to say Chris Finch. Chris Finch talking about Anthony Edwards is my guess also. Yeah, that’s right. Oh yeah, crab babies. Okay, he’s telling the truth. He’s not I don’t I don’t know what SGA took four fouls, took four free throws in in game. Finch has been complaining Finch complained about fouling the entire postseason. Yeah, I mean, he was the one that was complaining about how they let too much go. Well, they didn’t call any offball fouls. It it screws the the flow of the game and so he’s been talking about it since the the beginning of the postseason. So, didn’t surprise me. No. I saw I saw a story the other day about how the Timber Worlds have a a big off season coming because they got a lot of stuff to figure out and I was thinking, well, who better than Alex Rodriguez to be in charge of that situation. He’ll get it all figured out. All right, that’s who said it. All right, fantastic. We’ll take a break. Uh when we come back, we got some fish nuggets and we’ll look at what’s coming up this week in the world of sports. That’s all ahead here on the Odds Couple on Grind City Media. Are you ready? Where does Hallebertton rank? Where does he rank? Yeah. Is there potential for him to be more hated than Reggie by the end of this series? If you start flipping it all off, for sure. Yes. Yes. Well, first of all, they’re built the same. They damn near look the same. You know what I mean? Like reincarnated Reggie Miller. Welcome back to The Odds Couple on YouTube at Crime City Media and the official Crime City Media app. Here’s Rob Fiser and Lang Whitaker. Welcome back everyone to the Odds Couple here on this Monday edition of the large program. We’ll be back with you again on Thursday. We will preview the NBA finals uh with you on Thursday as game one will be Thursday night and uh we’ll also talk a couple of other things that we’ll get into uh here in a moment. Let you know what’s coming up uh this week. But first uh we got some fish nuggets for you here today. Yeah, that’s right. Um you know the Edmonton Oilers are in the Stanley Cup final. Are they? Yeah. uh along with the Florida Panthers. Uh 1992 1993 was the last time a team from Canada won the Stanley Cup. Wow. So Edund trying to break that long, long stretch. For the first time in NBA history, there will be seven different champions in seven years. This is what they wanted. This is what the the league wanted. I think that’s good, right? Yeah. Not sure. So we’ll find out. Yeah. Unless the Thunder win. Yeah. New York City is the first metro area ever to have a baseball team and a basketball team each lose by 15 or more on the same day. I saw that. What? Yeah. Yeah. Yankees and the Knicks both blown out. The Yankees blown out. Yeah. Uh Friday uh also marked the first time in baseball history that both reigning MVPs homered in the first inning of the same game. It was John Roser’s parlay, right? Otani and judged a homer and the over in that game and he hit that. So, congratulations to John just handing out winners here on the odds couple. The Oilers and Stars uh their series in the second playoff series was the second playoff series in NHL history to go at least five games with each game being decided by three or more goals. The other was a 2022 first round matchup between the Blues and the Wild. That one went six games. H talking about Conor McDavid being the best player in the National Hockey League. Well, he has 99 assists in 89 game NHL playoff career. There are 25 players in NHL history with 100 or more playoff assists, but only Wayne Gretzky reached the 100 assist mark in fewer than 125 games. He did it in his 70th. So, McDavid hoping to do it here in his 90th would be the second fastest. Oh, yeah. 90th. Yeah. But Gretzky did it in 70. McDavid minus 120 to be NHL playoffs MVP and hoist the what? Khan SM trophy. Yeah. Who’s uh the favorite for the Panthers? Uh Sergy Babski. Their goalkeeper. What is he? Plus 280. Plus 260. Plus 260. All right. Okay. Um where are we? Oh, the Thunder. The uh Oklahoma City Thunder outscored the Timberwolves by 31 points in the series despite losing a game by 42 points. Uh the series point differential is 50 points better than any other NBA team that lost a game by 40 plus points in a series. All others finished at least 19 or worse. This is the seventh consecutive year that the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL won at least one playoff round but failed to reach the championship round. No other team in baseball, basketball, football, or hockey history has done that in more than five consecutive seasons. And the Rockies, a more on the Colorado Rockies, they have now lost 23 consecutive series dating back to last year. It’s the longest series losing streak in MLB history. 23 consecutive series. At least they fired the manager. They should have fired him after the second, like midway through the second season. GM, they got to fire everybody. Rockies got the right notebook. Are um have the worst batting average, bottom five in home runs, RBI’s, total bases, and on base percentage. The Rockies pitchers have the fewest strikeouts. The Rockies batters have the most strikeouts. The Rockies have the most errors, the worst fielding percentage. And yeah, they are they’re just bad. Good old fashioned bad. Yeah, real old fashioned bad. We were talking baseball earlier and saying how it’s baseball. You can win on any given day without the Rockies. They’re trying to prove that wrong at nine. Well, apparently you can’t do it two out of three days. Can’t do it two out of three days. No, but they have done it nine times this year. Uh I’m putting money on the Rockies, by the way, tonight. Are you? Who are they playing? They’re in Miami. They’re taking they’re taking on the Marlins tonight. Uh so I’m taking a flyer with the the Colorado Rockies tonight. I don’t even know. I don’t know any of their pictures, but I’m going with the Rockies. Go Rockies. Um, NBA, the NBA finals will get underway on Thursday when the Oklahoma City Thunder will host the Indiana Pacers for the NBA Finals. Who will win all the action on ABC as the Thunder will host the Pacers. We’ll preview that series coming up uh on Thursday’s edition of the Odds Couple. But uh first first glance, Lang, what do you what do you expect? Do you expect a short series, long series? What do you think? I think Thunder went in probably five. So fast Thunder take care of business. I mean, if they’re officiated the same way they’re officiated all the last three months. Jeez. Get your guy. It’s true. They’re allowed a level of physicality. No one else is allowed defensively. They’re good at it. Maybe. So, if they’re officiated that way, they’re going to win it pretty easily. All right, CJ. Maybe the NBA wants to bring it extended a little bit, you know, and call some fouls and make this thing go six games or something like that, but I don’t know. So, it’s all based on the officiated big part of it. Okay. Not all based. The Thunder aren’t giving games away like the Bucks did, like the Cavs did, like the Knicks did. Um, so I I would say like laying Thunder in and five. Maybe they’re due due. Maybe they’re due to give a game away. Well, let me tell you something. They played one close game this postseason and coaching screwed them in that game and they lost to the Denver Nuggets. And this season, I think in games decided by like four points or something, they were one and five. Yeah, this year. So, just keep it close. I mean, but that’s the problem with Oklahoma City is trying to keep it close. So, but if Indiana could keep it close, I certainly would give them a shot. But, uh, the one thing out of all these teams that they’ve played in the postseason, Indiana actually has depth. You know, these other teams have didn’t have the depth that Indiana has and the ability to like turn to different lineups and different things and have quality guys come at you. And I think that maybe works in Indiana’s favor more than it did for, you know, Denver or or uh or the Grizzlies. I mean, the Timberwolves had a little bit more, but even then, not a lot. Yeah. Uh, hockey playoffs, uh, Stanley Cup final that gets underway on Wednesday in Edmonton as the Oilers will host the Florida Panthers in game one. As you look at the playoff bracket down to these final two, Dallas disposing of the Los Angeles Kings, the Vegas Golden Knights, and the Dallas Stars, while the Florida Panthers found their way there, beating Tampa Bay, Toronto, and Carolina to get to the final. Let’s go to Edmonton. Florida’s been on the road in every series uh so far in this playoff, and they’ve been able to get to the Stanley Cup final. CJ’s going with Florida. I’m going with Edmonton. Lang, I want Edmonton. You want Edmonton? Yeah. Our friends up north, we’re trying to put tariffs on them. Let him be. Yeah, let’s roof. I haven’t said to break that streak since ’92. No team from Canada has won the Stanley Cup. Yeah, let’s turn that around. I I met I want to see Conor McDavid win one, too. I met a lady, a nice lady uh at at the at a local establishment and she asked me about this is a weird start to this and she asked me about the Stanley Cup final because we were watching the game and I said, “Well, I’m rooting for Edmonton.” And she goes, “Oh, the Canadians. Who hates Canada?” I was like, “Really?” I was like, “Okay, well, I’ll keep my mouth shut then.” Uh, also this week, we got the Belmont Stakes. Oh, wow. Belmont Stakes goes this week. Uh, the post positions will be tonight, but you got uh you got Journalism in there. Sovereignty, the winner of the uh Kentucky Derby. Uh, so yeah, those are a couple of the horses that are in there that you are familiar with. I think I think Mike Smith’s going to win. Oh, those are the jockeyies. Those are the jockeyies. Yeah. I thought those were horses also. Who the hell named their horse Irad Ortiz? Junior. Junior. Junior. What are we doing? No, those are the jockeyies. Those are the horses and the jockeyies. All right. But that’ll be Saturday and we’ll have we’ll have the Belmont broken down for you on Thursday and get you pick. Yeah, we’ve done all right. Uh got gave you the winner in the Indy500. We’ve given you horses who have been all around the money uh so far in the two legs of the Triple Crown. And uh we’re going to nail this Belmont uh this week on Thursday. All right. Uh any free picks? Who Who’s got I got a I got I’ve been watching the women’s open uh the French Open, the women’s uh division. Yeah, Sabal Link has been killing everyone. Um she’s plus 220. I know like Coco Golf’s playing Madison Keys. It’s the American match. Everybody’s excited. It’s not great, but 220 Sabalinka, just take her. Yeah, I I’m with you on that. She’s awesome right now. Let’s go with a five team parlay. Five team parlay. Let’s get it. Old Miss, I I have to do it because like these favorites are just ridiculous. Old Miss over Murray -425. Tennessee over WakeUS 285. Both of those college World Series elimination games. And I’m on the opposite side of that Rockies thing with you, Rob. I’ll take the Marlins minus 200. I’ll take the Tigers going up against the White Socks who are also awfulus 235 and then the Dodgers – 160. All of that gets you to plus 480. $10 will pay you about 34. All right. I like that. I Or no, $10 will pay you about 48. Yeah, good parlay put together there. I uh I’m going with Detroit as well. Uh yes, they’re minus 210 against the White Sox. I’m going to parlay that with Jack Flity, who’s pitching tonight for the Tigers. Six plus Ks. Uh and and that’s like at minus 220 as well. So you’d be close to even money. Go in Detroit and Flity 6 plus Ks tonight. Uh, I also like San Francisco over San Diego. And I’m with you as well, CJ, on the Dodgers at minus one and a half uh against the New York Mets tonight. Minus 165. I’ll give the one and a half uh and and get close to even money there as well with the Dodgers over the Mets tonight. All right, there you go. All right, everybody good? Everybody good? We good? Everybody Everybody got everything taken care of today? Let’s get it. All right, uh that’s going to do it for this edition of the Odds Couple. We will be back with you on Thursday as we will look at the NBA finals and the Stanley Cup final and the Belmont Stakes uh coming up this weekend as well. We’ll do that uh plus much more uh on Thursday’s edition of the Odds Couple for CJ for Lang. I’m Fish. Thanks for joining us here today. Good luck with all your bets. Enjoy the week. We’ll talk to you again Thursday here on the Odds Couple on Grind City Media.
