The Portland Trail Blazers are up for sale (and the Seattle Seahawks might be next) 🤯

The Portland Trailblazers are officially up for sale, but this could lead to a domino effect that ends with the Seattle Seahawks hitting the market, too. Let me explain. So, back in 2018, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen passed away. He owned both the Blazers and Seahawks at the time. But since he wasn’t married and had no children, Allen left the teams to his sister, Jod Allen. However, there was a catch. Paul Allen’s will explicitly stated that Jod couldn’t just keep the teams. She had to eventually sell the Blazers and Seahawks with all proceeds going to charitable causes. No timeline was set for the sale. So, Jod has maintained ownership over the last few years. But that decision to wait had more to do with the Seahawks than the Blazers. You see, the Seattle Seahawks couldn’t be sold before 2025. That’s because the Allen family would have had to give 10% of the purchase price back to the state of Washington based on the terms of a deal signed in the 1990s that used taxpayer money to fund the team stadium. But now that 2025 is here, Jod Allen has put the Trailblazers up for sale, and the Seahawks might be next. Many people say that Jeff Bezos is the most likely buyer, but with NFL valuations appreciating at 15% annually over the last decade, every billionaire in America will be watching.
