Doc, we begin with the Charlotte Hornets and our fantasy MVP for the Hornets uh a year ago. Uh do do for the Hornets uh a year ago. Uh do do you have one, sir? Not really, but I’m going to go with Mark Williams because when Mark Williams played, he was as advertised. Like he was good. And I had kind of lost Like he was good. And I had kind of lost all faith in Mark Williams. I I think I all faith in Mark Williams. I I think I was calling him a ghost and a a myth and was calling him a ghost and a a myth and a legend that nobody was ever going to see. And uh once he came on the scene, see. And uh once he came on the scene, he started 41 out of 44 games, averaged 15 points, 10 boards, 1.2 blocks, and.7 steals. Like, uh he was very helpful to his fantasy teams. So, that would be the guy. And I like the fact he missed most guy. And I like the fact he missed most of his games early in the season and not of his games early in the season and not at the end. So if you stashed him on IR at the end. So if you stashed him on IR and he came out and balled out, then he and he came out and balled out, then he he helped you win. Indeed, man. Um my fantasy MVP for the Charlotte Hornets last year was Miles Bridges. Um just just cool and steady and consistent and uh you know making that box score sing every game. 20 points a game, 7 and a half boards, uh points a game, 7 and a half boards, uh 3.9 assists. I mean, a P of 27 and4. 3.9 assists. I mean, a P of 27 and4. Yes, I like it. Uh.7 blocks, 7 steals. Um I like that. 1.4. I can work with Um I like that. 1.4. I can work with that. Uh in combined defensive stats when you’re hitting me with that P and 2.2 three balls per game, uh 87 from the 2.2 three balls per game, uh 87 from the line and 43 overall, uh played 64 games, which is weird. It felt like he played more than that. Uh but uh um nevertheless uh you know there’s not a ton. I mean we’re talking about the Hornets here, right? Like Brandon Miller, LaMelo Ball, like these guys, their stats are good, but they didn’t play any games. Um so I I’ll they didn’t play any games. Um so I I’ll go Miles Bridges here, man. And I Doc, I go Miles Bridges here, man. And I Doc, I just think year after year, he’s a really really solid pick. Um you know, and and again, you need forwards. Forwards, it’s the most position scarcity of any of the five positions. So, a guy like Miles Bridges to me has a So, a guy like Miles Bridges to me has a little bit of extra value because that especially if he has SFPF um eligibility, which he should. Uh but uh but Miles Bridges is my fantasy MVP for the Charlotte Hornets uh last year. You know, Rick, I I took him uh with my You know, Rick, I I took him uh with my second pick in 30 deep. Um I took him second pick in 30 deep. Um I took him right after Zack Ed and Paul George went um and it it was pretty good. Now, when um and it it was pretty good. Now, when he he missed a chunk of time late in the he he missed a chunk of time late in the season, and that was painful. Like I like my whole 30 deep team depended on Miles Bridges being healthy and playing. So, when he was out, my team did not do So, when he was out, my team did not do well. When he was in there, my team did well. When he was in there, my team did well. Um because he’s a good player and he he he like you said, he’s very consistent. He just does you know what he’s going to do when he’s when he’s in he’s going to do when he’s when he’s in there. And uh that’s part of the reason I took him. I thought I didn’t think he I took him. I thought I didn’t think he was going to miss that many games, but uh we over overcame it and we got to the uh we over overcame it and we got to the the finals. Didn’t win, but uh he was great, man. And you know, I could have taken a guy like Brandon Ingram uh around that time or something. I’m glad that didn’t happen. So, anyway, you would never do that. You’re too smart for that. Yeah, I would not. I would never draft Brandon Ingram. You’re right. You’re It’s a good point. You’re too smart for that, dude. Like especially in 30 deep. In 30 deep, guys, think about this. You make a draft pick and you sometimes will wait 50 players until you go again. Okay? It’s that kind. And sometimes it’s 30 or what. It’s a big big big big number. Um I It’s a big big big big number. Um I don’t even track it, doc, because it’s just annoying. You see this name coming off, this name coming off, they got you I want all these guys. So I don’t even I want all these guys. So I don’t even track that. Uh uh because it’s annoying. So, I just kind of wait either on you So, I just kind of wait either on you texting me or I kind of like, you know, texting me or I kind of like, you know, check when am I going to be on the clock check when am I going to be on the clock because so many guy you you just it’s just uh and then it’s basically I don’t even look at the guys were drafted. I just left and then you make uh you make just left and then you make uh you make the assessment. Um it is uh a completely fascinating league um to play with 30 industry guys and girls who really know what the f they’re doing. Man, it’s uh it’s a very very tough league. Um shout out to everybody involved. uh players who surprised Doc and I I’ll go first and it’ll piggyback a little bit of what you said about Mark Williams because um I I dude I just didn’t see because um I I dude I just didn’t see this coming. I I didn’t see Doc uh where’s my Charlotte uh deal here. Uh where’s my guy? Where there he I dude I where’s my guy? Where there he I dude I didn’t see 15 and 10. I mean dude was 15 didn’t see 15 and 10. I mean dude was 15 and 10. 15 and 10 is is really really and 10. 15 and 10 is is really really quality. Two and a half assists is pretty good for a center. 1.2 blocks. We’ve talked about it a lot. I’d like to We’ve talked about it a lot. I’d like to see that number at at least 1.5. All right. But 1.2 is healthy. Um it’s safely above one. You know, 60% from the floor. Uh and he did all of that, doc, floor. Uh and he did all of that, doc, in 26.6 minutes. Um I I I was starting in 26.6 minutes. Um I I I was starting to be like, dude, I’m tired of waiting on you, bro. Like, right, Doc? It’s been like year after year. This is going to be the year. This is going to be the year. This is going to be the year. And then eventually, like, we just take our ball and go somewhere else. I mean, you just get tired of getting let down. And that that was kind of me with down. And that that was kind of me with Mark Williams. He just like he he put me Mark Williams. He just like he he put me in a coma uh with with the missed games in a coma uh with with the missed games and just not being as good as I thought and just not being as good as I thought he would be at Duke. Dude, I loved him he would be at Duke. Dude, I loved him at Duke. Like loved him at Duke. It was at Duke. Like loved him at Duke. It was cool to see that player blossom this year. And now, Doc, I’m wondering where are we going with this? Do we get like are we going with this? Do we get like another Zubots eruption where like you okay 15 and 10 awesome totally cool but do you like taking now to a different level like like Zubots did last year cuz Zubots was really good two years ago but this year he really popped he was the most improved candidate. So I think I think we could get even more from Mark Williams in that regard. So uh he is a Williams in that regard. So uh he is a guy doc that surprised me. How about you? Uh who surprised you on the Charlotte side? Well, I I think the big question about Mark Williams is can he stay healthy and play a whole season because we we have never seen that. Um, so that that’s the concern there. As far as somebody a a player that surprised me in Charlotte, I mean, I was s surprised Brandon Miller only played 27 games. Uh, I was not surprised Lamelo Ball only played 47 games. Uh, I mean, it’s got to be Mark Williams. There’s not, we don’t have a lot to work There’s not, we don’t have a lot to work with here, dude. Um, we literally have LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges, Mark Williams, Nick Smith. Josh Green. You’re forgetting Josh Green. How it’s just so so bad. And Yousef Nerkage was a huge, you know, like Nick Richards, people thought he was going to blow up. So, there’s not a was going to blow up. So, there’s not a lot to work with here. I’m going to say lot to work with here. I’m going to say Brandon Miller was or Mark Williams was not only my MVP, but he was also the not only my MVP, but he was also the most surprising cuz I I didn’t see it coming. You know what’s going to be absolutely hilarious is if Mark Williams is the answer for uh every one of these is the answer for uh every one of these segments that we said Mar Williams. Um, show them what he’s won. Who should have been a Laker? Mark Williams. Like, could the Lakers have used Mark Williams? Yes, they could have. Like I still don’t understand what happened there and I I don’t know that we’ll ever know. Um and I wonder where um Mark Williams head is after being traded to the Lakers. Now he’s back in Charlotte. Like what I thought he was going to check out and be done, but he going to check out and be done, but he he he didn’t. Honestly, I like it. Like cuz I think the numbers got better after the failed trade. Like he he was out there on like a on a revenge tour. like screw on like a on a revenge tour. like screw you all. Like screw you LA for Knicks in you all. Like screw you LA for Knicks in the trade. Screw you to his own team for the trade. Screw you to his own team for trading him in the first place. And so there was a like a spite silly season run right there. And and hopefully he stays pissed off uh coming into this year and and plays like that again. But Mark Williams is definitely on my radar, Doc. Uh you know, like I haven’t I haven’t ranked out that far. I got a top haven’t ranked out that far. I got a top 50. He’s not on my top 50, but I promise 50. He’s not on my top 50, but I promise you he’d be uh in in the 51 through 100 you he’d be uh in in the 51 through 100 range somewhere in there. Um, but he he’s going to be a guy like an Alex Sar. he’s going to be a guy like an Alex Sar. Uh, he’s a big that I have my eye on. Uh, he’s a big that I have my eye on. Like I’d rather have Mark Williams than Jaylen Durren. I feel like like the the blocks are going to be better from Mark Williams. Mark Williams personally for me is more vetted uh than uh than Jaylen me is more vetted uh than uh than Jaylen Dur. Like like I said, I liked Mark Williams in college. Like I spotted him. I’m like, who is that jumping jack? I like him. Um, so I’m just kind of got like him. Um, so I’m just kind of got more history with him, more trust, more maybe belief, all that kind of stuff. But, uh, but but he’s he’s uh I’m I’m But, uh, but but he’s he’s uh I’m I’m excited about him for this upcoming season. All right. Uh, players who disappointed. Doc, did we just do that one or I’m sorry. I’m getting This is uh one or I’m sorry. I’m getting This is uh my fourth uh show here today. Is uh No. my fourth uh show here today. Is uh No. Did I already ask you that? No, we’re on Did I already ask you that? No, we’re on we’re on this. Okay. All right. We’re on we’re on time. So, most disappointing player for the Charlotte Hornets? Uh Mark Williams because No, I’m just kidding. Nice. Well played. Well, he only he only played in 44 games. I needed more. I mean, you could make that argument. He could be the answer here. You could make that argument. But I’m going to go with Josh Green. This is the going to go with Josh Green. This is the most Eric Snow line ever, dude. 68 games played, 67 starts, 28 minutes a game, and you give me seven points, 2 blocks, 1.6 6 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and oh boy, 1.1 steel. Thanks, Josh. Um, like just a a body taking up a space and doing nothing with it. Like filling a void with no positive outcome. Like I It’s crazy, man. got to be the lowest producing starting shooting guard in the league. Uh, you might be right about that. Um, you might be right about that. Good player in reality. Good player in reality. I I I I would rock with Josh reality. I I I I would rock with Josh Green. Solid three-point shooter, 3D guy. Uh, I I rock with Josh Green in guy. Uh, I I rock with Josh Green in reality, not in fantasy. He is a waiver wire guy. Uh, so players are disappointed for me. Uh the why there’s two I I would say LaMelo Ball, but to be two I I would say LaMelo Ball, but to be disappointed uh you had to have expectations, right? And so I I there was no let down here at all. Like this was no let down here at all. Like this is exactly, you know, for I mean this stat line is just gorgeous, dude. 25 points, five boards, seven and a half dimes, 1.1 steals, 3.8 threes, dude. Like ah the stat line’s delicious, man. Um and 47 games. have fun with that. Uh Um and 47 games. have fun with that. Uh you this guy is uh I don’t know like like you’re at the uh I don’t know like like you’re at the bar dock and you look and and like she’s bar dock and you look and and like she’s just smoking but she’s out of your league, right? It’s it’s like that. It’s like just a tease. It’s just like fool’s gold or something like that stat line’s amazing. But then the reality is uh oh yeah 47 games and that was actually a decent number. So um I’m gonna say Doc uh Brandon Miller uh you know huge disappointment. He’s cooking here. 21 points, five boards, three and a half dimes, 1.8 defensive stats, 3.9 threes. My god. Uh, in 27 games. So, he was on My god. Uh, in 27 games. So, he was on his way. He was having that pop year, pardon me, that pop year and it all got pardon me, that pop year and it all got fizzled. But I want to bring up a name, fizzled. But I want to bring up a name, doc, that uh that we haven’t talked about in a long, long time. And he is uh about in a long, long time. And he is uh people you kind of either love him or or people you kind of either love him or or don’t, right? Grant Williams. Doc. Uh, and I I I still like Grant Williams in and I I I still like Grant Williams in fantasy and I think there’s a chance. Let me check my Charlotte box uh uh depth chart here. Is there Let me see. He’s probably We got a chance to start next year. Uh, they kind of like Josh Green as that 3 and D guy, but I I guess Green as that 3 and D guy, but I I guess Grant Williams could enter the spot there with Ball, with Brandon Miller, with Bridges and with Mark Williams. Um, but otherwise he would be their six-man. Um, and it it’s a deep league thing for Um, and it it’s a deep league thing for sure, but I like Grant Williams, dude. Like, think about the the Stalin he put up last year. It’s not great, okay? But 10 and five, two assists, 1.1 steals,8 blocks, 1.7 threes, and he played 29.9 minutes in kind of a turbo bench role. 16 games played, seven starts, and, you know, he missed the whole season with injury. But, uh, that that was kind of disappointing. I thought Grant Williams was going to find a role and find a home was going to find a role and find a home in Charlotte and play a little bit for them and and that didn’t happen last year because of the injury. Yeah, I don’t know, man. I it seemed like he was such a an important player when he played for Boston and then he went to Dallas and it was just kind of went to Dallas and it was just kind of not not great. Um then he got to Charlotte was okay. the the first half year he was there and then last year he was there and then last year he was just hurt all year. Um there’s still potential for him to be okay. I agree with you. Uh I need to I need to think with you. Uh I need to I need to think about him and see what he does this summer because like you said, we haven’t talked about him in a long time. He’s off the radar. This is a deep league guy off the radar. This is a deep league guy that you’re not going to have to you’re going to be able to get him at the end going to be able to get him at the end of your draft. Um but he might be worth of your draft. Um but he might be worth a flyer late. um based on what he’s capable of doing. He’s a big man that can hit threes. Good defensive player. He’s grimy. He gets defensive stats, too. Uh and he is under contract with Charlotte like 134 million. You don’t pay a guy 134 million and then he never plays unless of course your name is Malcolm Brogden and you play for the Washington Wizards. Uh it is Rick Campla. It is Hall of Famer Steve Alexander and Doc. We are moving on here with the Charlotte Hornets to offseason outlook. Um, so the free agent stock Trey man is a restricted free agent. I really really really like Trey man. Um, and I I his think it was a back man. Um, and I I his think it was a back injury this year. It just went on and on injury this year. It just went on and on and on and on and then they shut him and on and on and then they shut him down. It was like I I I mean no Brandon down. It was like I I I mean no Brandon Miller like Lamela Ball missed a million games. I’m like it’s Trey man season and it wasn’t Trey man season but I like him. He’s restricted. Maybe there’s an offer sheet. I don’t know, maybe Charlotte just pays him, but uh but his future with this team is up in the air. future with this team is up in the air. Taj Gibson, um yes, still playing. He’s in the OG role. Seth Curry is a UFA and in the OG role. Seth Curry is a UFA and Wendell Moore Jr. is an RFA. So, not not Wendell Moore Jr. is an RFA. So, not not a real like sexy uh deal right there, Doc. But, um so let’s kind of look overall at the team, dude. Like your starting five, Mark Williams. We both like Mark Williams. Miles Bridges, we just talked about it. We both like Miles Bridges. Brandon Miller. Who doesn’t like Brandon Miller? Okay. And LaMelo Ball obviously a super phenomenal talent with the games played issue. And then Josh Green or Grant Williams. Dude, that’s not a bad starting five, Doc. It’s not like it’s not trying to send it It’s not like it’s not trying to send it to the Hall of Fame, but that that’s a I to the Hall of Fame, but that that’s a I we like those players. I like those players. Yeah. I mean, it’s it it’s serviceable, right? Um and and Charlotte is not looking to win a championship. They’re they’re maybe hoping to make the playin tournament. Um they’d like to keep everybody healthy for once. They’d like to get a whole season out of LaMelo Ball to get a whole season out of LaMelo Ball and see what they could do with, you know, if LaMelo Ball can stay healthy for a whole season. Who knows, man? I mean, they could actually be a a pretty good team. I don’t know uh that they’re going to stop anybody defensively, but um they’re just they’re just surviving. They’re just existing. I don’t I don’t know, man. I I’m not going to be targeting a lot of Hornets on my fantasy team. I I I’ll look at Mark Williams. I’ll look at uh Bridges, but it’s just I don’t know, man. I I but it’s just I don’t know, man. I I don’t know what I don’t know what else to say. They’re just never good and they’re probably not going to be good next year. Correct. Um Lamel, you got to take LaMelo Ball too high like second round. Um based on his statline, right? There’s no way I would spend a second round pick no way I would spend a second round pick on LaMelo Ball. There’s no way. I will not have him on any of my teams. Um so not have him on any of my teams. Um so there’s that. But Doc, uh Brandon Miller. Yep. I I’ll uh definitely rock with Brandon Miller, definitely rock with Mark Williams, definitely rock with Miles Bridges on this team. And outside of that, like like I said, deep league special. Um if I see him in the preseason, he’s looking good and he’s lthered up and he’s still, you know, sort of the swaggy, irritant Grant Williams, and I see that I like his role Williams, and I see that I like his role on the team, um then then he becomes kind of a late round guy. But Josh Green kind of a late round guy. But Josh Green is, as Doc mentioned, is uh uh very very is, as Doc mentioned, is uh uh very very fantasy unfriendly. So he’s off the radar. All right, Doc. Uh we uh have one radar. All right, Doc. Uh we uh have one more segment to go here on Charlotte and it is players to watch. Uh talk to me it is players to watch. Uh talk to me about that. Uh hang on one second. Why don’t you go first Rick? I I lost my place. No problem, dude. No problem. Um so in terms of players to watch it it you know terms of players to watch it it you know it may be another way of saying sleepers um that kind of thing. Uh, I I guess I I’ll say Brandon Miller. Like I I’m I really don’t know who else Like I I’m I really don’t know who else to go with here because uh what you’re watching it has to attract you, right? It has to be attractive to you. You have It has to be attractive to you. You have to want to watch it, right? I’m not really getting a lot of those vibrations here with the Charlotte Hornets. So what because Bridges is Bridges. I think Mark Williams is going to be Mark Williams. Um and LaMelo Ball is going to play 50 Um and LaMelo Ball is going to play 50 games and have a fat stat line. the the games and have a fat stat line. the the question for me and what I’m watching is Brandon Miller and his recovery from the injury. Um, you know, when he’s cleared, he’ll be ready for training camp. I want to see all of that, right? Uh, and and to see all of that, right? Uh, and and know that he’s going to be good to go. know that he’s going to be good to go. Um, and then, you know, coming into the season, I mean, dude, there’s a lot of upside here, Doc. Again, the P was 215 and almost four, 1.8 defensive stats, 3.9 threes. Yes. Giddy up, baby. I love that stat line. I want that on my team. that stat line. I want that on my team. Okay, so Brandon Miller is the the guy that I really got my eye on as we move that I really got my eye on as we move forward here. Um, I think Nick Richards is interesting. Everybody got all excited about Nick Richards like three different times in the last two years and he never really came through and I don’t know if he’s going to have a role don’t know if he’s going to have a role on this team or if he’s going to get on this team or if he’s going to get buried. Um, he he got traded, bro. All those trades and rescended trades. He’s with Phoenix. Nick Richards isn’t even on the team. Not even. That’s right. That’s when everybody got excited about him was Yeah. Andre when he went to Phoenix and he was starting and all that. Cut this out, Andre. Um, scratch all that. Yeah, I I agree with you. Brandon Miller is the guy because I think we’re all expecting Brandon Miller to take a huge leap. Um, and Brandon Miller has, you know, more talent in his little finger than some some NBA players have in their their whole body. So, uh, if he can stay their whole body. So, uh, if he can stay healthy and he can live up to the hype healthy and he can live up to the hype and if LaMelo Ball can stay healthy and if Bridges can do it again and if Mark if Bridges can do it again and if Mark Williams can stay healthy, we’ve got something brewing in Charlotte. But those are a lot a lot a Charlotte. But those are a lot a lot a lot of ifs. Lot of ifs, bro. ifs and lot of ifs. Lot of ifs, bro. ifs and buts for candies and nuts. D. But anyway, I I agree with you. I think Brandon Miller is the guy we got to watch. All right, ladies and gentlemen. Um want to uh I want to um move on here to our next uh I want to um move on here to our next team, the New Orleans Pelicans. Doc, uh you tell me if you want to go first or you tell me if you want to go first or But we have a fantasy MVP, which again, folks, is subjective. It’s not like we have to go with this guy. the highest score. It could be a role player that we score. It could be a role player that we rocked late in the season. He helped us win games. Just whoever the fantasy MVP is for us. And uh Doc, as we talk about is for us. And uh Doc, as we talk about the New Orleans Pelicans, who is that dude for you? Well, um that’s a great question, my friend. This it was just a mess again, right? All the way around. I mean, Eve Mei ended up being the most reliable guy on that team. Uh, we never even saw Brandon Ingram. Zion Gracus for 30 games and now he’s in trouble. Um, Trey Mur, Trey Murphy’s amazing, but he got hurt and CJ McCollum got hurt. I mean, it’s just all a mess. I don’t like any of it. Um, I a mess. I don’t like any of it. Um, I think you and I were both fired up about think you and I were both fired up about Kelly Oolen for a minute and that quickly faded because he wasn’t he never really went off. Um, well, Makovich was eating some of his time and they were playing a lot of guys. Man, Herb Jones got hurt. Like, it’s just a disaster. I’m going to say the MVP of the New Orleans Pelicans is Trey Murphy. It’s Trey Murphy. 53 games, but he was awesome, dude. He’s like He was He would have been an all-star if he was on any have been an all-star if he was on any other team last year, I think. I mean, I agree that it’s Trey Murphy, but that that’s really really sad when your fantasy MVP played 53 games. Um, I you know, you you think about like CJ McCollum, he wasn’t their fan. I mean, he played 56 games. Remember they shut him down. Remember CJ like personally, you remember at the end of the year he you remember at the end of the year he was awful. Like had just completely thrown in the towel. 3-21 Cancun. Uh, and he had like one blowup game. He had and he had like one blowup game. He had some randomass ass 40point game. Um, which I wrote about in one of the articles. Uh, it I don’t even remember what the heck. It might have been a waiverwire thing. I don’t remember. Um, but but I I told you uh it was a but but I I told you uh it was a waiverwire thing and I was like, don’t drop CJ McCollum. There will be and then bam. And but it it was a lot of like 10, bam. And but it it was a lot of like 10, 13, 14 point games. It was brutal. Um, so I I’ll go Trey Murphy. Three threes per game, 1.8 8 combined defensive stats, 215 and3 P. Uh the percentages uh are just solid. Um so I’ll say uh Trey are just solid. Um so I’ll say uh Trey Murphy even in a 53 game season with 51 Murphy even in a 53 game season with 51 starts and obviously Doc uh no Brandon Ingram was gigantic for for his development and to take that take that step. Obviously Zion missing a bunch of games helped too, but to have Brandon Ingram out of the way created a wing spot for Trey Murphy that he is now not going to give up. He is now not going to give up. He is coming off of a labroom injury which uh could bleed into the upcoming season and I am I am anticipating it to bleed into I am I am anticipating it to bleed into the upcoming season. Uh but he’s my fantasy MVP from last year for the Pels. How about players who surprised you Doc from uh from uh do I call it last year from uh from uh do I call it last year or still this year? uh we’re in no kind or still this year? uh we’re in no kind of weird thing. We’re in the off season, but the finals just start going on. Anyway, uh who surprised you most on the Pels? Uh there were a few days there where I enjoyed Carlo Makovich’s game. Uh but I think the easy answer is Eve Uh but I think the easy answer is Eve Mei. Uh Eve Mei played 73 games, started 67 of them. You only score scored nine points a game, but he had eight boards. He had 1.3 blocks. I mean, he did about He had 1.3 blocks. I mean, he did about everything we could have hoped he could do um last season for the for the Pel do um last season for the for the Pel and I I drafted him in some leagues because he was really the only center that they had. So, I like Mei’s going to that they had. So, I like Mei’s going to play and he’s he’s at least going to do play and he’s he’s at least going to do something and he did. So, what surprised me um Doc is first of all Zion Williamson um the defense. I mean, we gotta give him some a little bit credit here, Doc. He got the He got the defensive stats up He got the He got the defensive stats up to 0.9 blocks and 1.2 steals. Okay, cool. Yes. This is where it should always be. It should even be better than that. You know, the PR is just lovely. Uh 247 and five. Yeah. Uh-huh. So, now, you know, we’re balancing it out a little bit with the fantasy gold. Now, there’s no three balls here. Um obviously the percentage um the free throw uh field goal percentage very good 57% free throws not so much. It’s in the 57% free throws not so much. It’s in the mid60s. Uh and so I just I was surprised mid60s. Uh and so I just I was surprised at the uh at the uptick defensively from Zion Williamson and uh and I thought that was cool. Also, you remember uh Brandon Boston had himself a little moment for the Pelicans last year before he got hurt and they shut him down. Uh he got hurt and they shut him down. Uh 11 points, three rebounds, two assists. Uh pretty goodies. He was at 1.3 steals, 1.2 threes. Um, so that surprised me. He was uh with the Clippers, like barely played ever, but uh but he he he he got played ever, but uh but he he he he got some run with the Pel and frankly I liked what I saw. Uh so Doc, let’s move liked what I saw. Uh so Doc, let’s move on to players who disappointed. Um and maybe you should just spin the bottle on this one. There was a ton of disappointment and disaster on this Pelicans team, but talk to me about what disappointed you the most. Who disappointed you the most? I mean, you’re right. Spin a bottle. Pick pick a Pelican. Any pet pelican and and they probably disappointed you. Um, I’m going to go with Zion. Um, the year I’m going to go with Zion. Um, the year before he played in 70 games. Uh, the pictures and the photos came out over the summer of how cut and ripped he was the summer of how cut and ripped he was and where, you know, I was like, it’s still Zion. I’m kind of not buying this, but a lot of people I’m not going to but a lot of people I’m not going to name names, but a lot of people were fired up about Zion Williamson. Like, this is the year like if it it’s now or this is the year like if it it’s now or never. And it I feel like it was a now never. And it I feel like it was a now or never season for Zion. Like either he’s going to turn the corner and get it he’s going to turn the corner and get it done or we’re going to have another disaster on our hands. Well, he’s been in a league for five years already, Rick. feels like literally yesterday that his foot blew out of that shoe at that his foot blew out of that shoe at Duke. And we were all excited to see him Duke. And we were all excited to see him come dunk in the NBA. And he he graced us for 24 games in NBA. And he he graced us for 24 games in his rookie season. Uh 29 games in his junior season and 30 games last year. Three out of his five NBA seasons are 30 Three out of his five NBA seasons are 30 games or less. and the other two, dude, it’s so bad. And and now there’s, you know, he’s got legal allegations against him this summer. Um, if I’m the Pelicans, I’m I’m trying to get him out of there because it’s clearly not working. And even though the defense has improved, still less than than a block a game. And yes, the careerhigh of 1.2 two steels was nice, but doesn’t mean a lot when you play 30 but doesn’t mean a lot when you play 30 games. So that that’s my most disappointing. Doesn’t mean a lot when you play 30 games. That’s a great line. it. So Doc, I I’m going to hit on a couple of guys here. First of all, Zion Williamson. All right. You know that I Dude, I had Zion shares here, there, everywhere. I did not have him in 30 deep. I did not have him in Cam Dynasty. deep. I did not have him in Cam Dynasty. Okay. But I did try to trade for him in Okay. But I did try to trade for him in Cam Dynasty uh leading into last year and the the manager was like, “Nah, I’m not doing it. Thank you for declining that offer.” Uh I ended up getting uh Jaylen Green late in the year with probably the same assets. Anyway, that worked out for me. Um but yeah, Doc, I’m not gonna fall for Um but yeah, Doc, I’m not gonna fall for the for the Photoshop of Zion again. any kind of workout video, any little picture with a kid uh and he’s looking with a like a like a chiseled uh chin with a like a like a chiseled uh chin line, right? I I I’m not buying any of line, right? I I I’m not buying any of it. Okay, I will say this, Doc. The pictures of Luca Donuch at the Real M the Real Madrid game did look encouraging. They looked pretty good. They looked pretty They looked encouraging. I think Braun Braun is working his magic on Luca. Um, I saw is working his magic on Luca. Um, I saw it. It’s so funny, dude. Just randomly, somebody put out uh remember when Michael Finley took the beer away from Luca. Yeah. You remember that? And um one year ago, it was one year ago, like yesterday or the day. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That that’s what it was. So, it got sent out. that’s what it was. So, it got sent out. I just was howling laughing cuz Philly is all like all like like sleek about it, right? Like he didn’t make a scene about it or like, “Luca, what are you doing?” He just literally walks up slowly, grabs a beer, and turns and walks away. That that was and L Well, Luca is like he looked to the guy Well, Luca is like he looked to the guy next to him. He’s like he had a smile next to him. He’s like he had a smile like, “Uh, oh, okay. All right, dude. It’s just That’s fine. I’ll just get one when I get home. I’ll just get another one.” Dude, it’s so awkward and so weird, right? And here’s the other thing, Doc. It’s a former player and a badass, by the way. Michael Finley could go, man. Um, but like you would think that a man. Um, but like you would think that a former player would be looking out for another player, right? Like Nico Harrison uh may come up or that Dumont goofball may go. You can’t. Anyway, dude, that that that just cracked me up, man. Cracked me up. Michael F. And the funny thing is like I haven’t seen video of Luca um at the Real Madrid, but I’ve seen the um at the Real Madrid, but I’ve seen the pictures and the pictures look awesome. But literally, dude, with the way AI is out of control now, I mean, we have babies. We have babies talking like adults and looking exactly like like Chris Farley is a baby or whatever. Um, it’s so out of control. If some person wanted to sabotage all of us, they could photoshop and AI create all these NBA players and make them all look 10 times better than they really do. I don’t know how you vet it and know do. I don’t know how you vet it and know what’s real and what’s not. But I I did what’s real and what’s not. But I I did like the pictures of Luca and I I thought um and the Michael Finley beer thing was was pretty awesome. And here’s here’s the thing. I don’t even think it’s LeBron or the Lakers. I think Luca went through so much BS last year. And his ego was hurt and he was hurt that he his ego was hurt and he was hurt that he got kicked out of Dallas and he’s he wants to prove everybody wrong. He’s pissed off. Um, so it would not be s it pissed off. Um, so it would not be s it would not surprise me if he’s finally like, you know what, I’m not drinking beer this year. I’m not all I’m going to beer this year. I’m not all I’m going to do is work out and get ready to beat do is work out and get ready to beat ass. Um, it would not surprise me if that’s where he is. So, anyway, back to the Well, you can comment and then back to the Pelicans. Yeah, dude. No, I I I’m to the Pelicans. Yeah, dude. No, I I I’m I’m buying everything you’re selling there, man. I I think Luke is going to there, man. I I think Luke is going to have an extraordinary year. I think he’s going to make an MVP run. Um, and I like going to make an MVP run. Um, and I like I don’t know. And you you said, how do I don’t know. And you you said, how do you vet it? The way we vet it, Doc, you vet it? The way we vet it, Doc, unfortunately, is wait until the preseason begins. Um, and then we will actually watch TV and games. And so we don’t have to then rely on a picture or don’t have to then rely on a picture or a video or perhaps AI. It’s like, no, there’s no AI there. That’s the dude and he’s wearing a basketball jersey and and we can kind of assess uh from that. Um we can kind of assess uh from that. Um so back to players who disappointed, Doc. Um De Jonte Murray, colossal disappointment this year. I thought he was gonna kill it, man. I thought the Pelicans destroyed the Hawks in that trade. I no longer think that. Uh but at trade. I no longer think that. Uh but at the time I did. I’m like anyway, you know, DeJontry 17 points, six and a half rebounds, seven and a half assists, two steals, 1.7 threes. One of my favorite stat sets in the entire NBA. I love DeJonte Murray. Um that makes me think of the late great Tommy Heinson. Remember, I love Walter. We’re talking about Walter Mccardi. I love Walter. Ah, Tommy Heinson, you’re the best. Hope you’re having a great day up in heaven, dude. Um, but I I’m I and I will always dude. Um, but I I’m I and I will always be a huge Deontay Murray fan, bro. But 31 games. What a buzzkill. And then my boy Herb Jones, dude, you know I’m a Herb Jones guy. 1.9 steals, uh, 1.1 threes. Herbert, we we got to get that three ball cooking, man. Uh, 3.6 attempts. That ain’t it. But the two steals is, um, he played 20 games, Doc. So, like we said, you can take your pick So, like we said, you can take your pick right there, but but two guys that are are particular like favorites of mine, Herb Jones and Dejonte Murray, they died last year, dude. But I tell you what, I’ll tell you what, I will be hot and I’ll tell you what, I will be hot and bothered. Uh, let me let me pause. Pause. Let me reel it back in. I will be Pause. Let me reel it back in. I will be stoked about drafting both of these players in advance of the 2025 26 season. Let me say it that way. Hot and bothered is a kind of a term Hot and bothered is a kind of a term from yester year. It is a lot of what from yester year. It is a lot of what you and I say are probably terms from yester year, but it’s it’s also you apply it like you know to anyway, forget it. Uh doesn’t matter. Uh I was about to it. Uh doesn’t matter. Uh I was about to stick my foot probably even deeper in my mouth. Um so let’s just pull it out and mouth. Um so let’s just pull it out and walk and do a show. All right. So we’re walk and do a show. All right. So we’re on the Pelicans here, guys. And uh we’re talking about uh the offseason outlook for the New Orleans Pelicans. So free agents, Bruce Brown maybe going back to Denver, Doc. Remember that was all the talk they couldn’t afford him. He got the big payday and then they’re like, “We’ll just wait out the contract and maybe get him back.” Well, who knows? Maybe that happens. Uh he’d be a good look on Denver. I think he fit very very look on Denver. I think he fit very very well with those guys. Uh he’s a UFA. He well with those guys. Uh he’s a UFA. He ain’t coming back to New Orleans. Uh Antonio Reeves is a restricted free agent. Um Alfred Payeyton is on a club option. Um that’s Andre’s guy. Andre loves Alfred Payeyton. Uh you have uh Brandon Boston on a club option as well. So not not sexy names right there, Doc. Uh not a lot to write uh not a lot to write uh not a lot to write home about. I guess that’s another oldtimey colloquialism. Um but uh but like as you look at the Pels like this like as you look at the Pels like this off season, um what what are your thoughts, man? Um, do do you think their starting five is looking pretty firm here with uh a little Eve, a little Zion, a little Trey Murphy, uh a little maybe McCollum? Like who do you think comes off the bench by the way? Like if comes off the bench by the way? Like if all those guys are there cuz either Trey Mur Trey Murphy or Herb or uh McCollum, one of those dudes is probably going to have to come off the bench. I I hope have to come off the bench. I I hope it’s not Murphy, but I feel like Murphy was coming off the bench back when they were all together. So, uh, dude, I don’t know. Um, it’s a great question. The good news is Zion will be hurt, so it won’t matter. There will always be a there will always be a spot for Trey Murphy. Um, but yeah, uh, hilarious. CJ McCollum and DeJonte Murray. I mean, that’s a dangerous backourt if they’re playing well and things are going well. But you got to reme you got to uh you know got to reme you got to uh you know wonder how much of the problem with New Orleans is just the mindset of New Orleans. Like it’s just a bunch of guys getting hurt and not playing and doing the same thing year after year. And um it can’t be a year after year. And um it can’t be a fun place to to play, I wouldn’t think. Um I don’t know. Can they stay healthy? Can they get healthy? Like, is Trey Murphy good to go for the start of the Murphy good to go for the start of the season? I I don’t believe so, Doc. I think so either. I don’t think so. I think he’s Yeah. No, I I already did the think he’s Yeah. No, I I already did the math on, you know, recovery time for a torn labroom. Like, it’s not just a labor. It’s a torn labroom. All right. So, this is serious surgery, and it’s his shoulder, which is big time, and all that kind of stuff. So, it’s it’s a several month deal. Maybe not a full year, but like 6 months, 7 months, somewhere in there. So, I’m I’m calculating that he will miss some time uh to begin the season. Um but you know, uh to begin the season. Um but you know, your on paper look for this team. Dejante Murray, CJ McCollum, who enters the final year of his deal by the way, the final year of his deal by the way, he could be on the move. Um uh Trey he could be on the move. Um uh Trey Murphy, Zion Williamson, Eve Mei, uh Olen will still be under contract. Uh Jose Alvarado got paid, so he’ll be there. Uh they’re not going to let Reeves go after just drafting him what last year, the year before. Jordan Hawkins, uh a guy I like. Makovich. I mean, dude, they got some talent, man. They really do. New Orleans has talent. And I to me personally, they have talent that you can win with. Like those bench guys, I like those bench guys. And you know, theoretically, uh, Murray like him. McCullum like him. Murphy like him. Mei, he’s you split the center spot. Me and Olen, okay, I kind of like that. But, you know, the Pel could use an upgrade at the center spot. Doc, Doc, let’s face it. Let’s face it. Eve Mei had a nice little season last year, right? Eve Mei to me is a backup big. I right? Eve Mei to me is a backup big. I I don’t see I don’t see a starting big. I don’t see I don’t see a starting big. Like you need a you need a badass and Like you need a you need a badass and then if Eve Mei is your backup then I then if Eve Mei is your backup then I think you’ve got it structured uh the way it should be. Um but uh so I I think way it should be. Um but uh so I I think I think a go ahead. I fully agree with I think a go ahead. I fully agree with that because I think mei needs to earn the job like he’s going to have to compete with Kelly Olen for it. He kind of fell in kind of fell into it last of fell in kind of fell into it last year, didn’t he? and Oolen started all 20 games he played for them. So, um I’m 20 games he played for them. So, um I’m not I I don’t think they probably want Mei to be their starting center. Um that could open a door for Brook Lopez to come to New Orleans. Um Kelly Oolen could start. So, yeah, I think I I don’t know that we’re automatically just going to be going all in on EI. Um, but at least we know he in on EI. Um, but at least we know he can play and and he can get steals and can play and and he can get steals and blocks and rebounds and uh so I I think blocks and rebounds and uh so I I think he’ll be fine whether he comes off the bench or starts. But uh and Brandon Ingram being out of the way hopefully clears up, you know, some of the Herb Jones stuff and and uh Trey Murphy when he comes back like I think it’ll be good for this team to have Ingram out of the for this team to have Ingram out of the way. Such a good point by you because Murphy’s going to probably not start the season on time. There will be uh they won’t have to make that decision. Okay, which one of these badasses comes off the bench. Uh and and then pardon me when Trey Murphy’s ready to come back. Uh Doc, you know that Zant Williamson will already be on the shelf with his third injury of be on the shelf with his third injury of the year. So, uh so it’ll all like automatically vet itself um in a way. So, uh I had a point to make. Um, way. So, uh I had a point to make. Um, so we’re we’re talking off seasonason here for for the Pelicans. Um, Doc, you you’ve mentioned it. So, Zion Williamson has uh a a really really serious allegation against him and a big time tens of millions of dollars lawsuit against him. We’ll let you guys read all the details and and and the how’s the wise and all of that. Um I I’m I’m not wise and all of that. Um I I’m I’m not sure if he’s like in trouble like possibly go to jail based on these allegations or if it’s just like you know if proven that you have to pay out know if proven that you have to pay out a bunch of money. I I don’t I don’t a bunch of money. I I don’t I don’t really know all the details on that. All it’s a mess. Okay. And it’s a horrible look for Zion Williamson. Doc and check this out. If New Orleans move closer to the mic. If New Orleans um was going to get maybe a little frisky about finally trading Zion, you know, which they’ve been reluctant to do so far, right? Um now would be a really really really terrible time to pick up the phone and call Danny time to pick up the phone and call Danny A about Zion. Like who wants, first of all, he’s hurt all the time. The injury risk uh the body is not where it needs risk uh the body is not where it needs to be. And now he’s got this dude. So to be. And now he’s got this dude. So it’s like New Orleans had a window. Do you remember all the hype? Oh, the Knicks need to go get Zion Williamson. Like just all that stuff, right? Like there was a moment in time when you could have jettisoned off of Zion, gotten a whole bunch back for him and you didn’t. And now the whole thing’s grown stale. David Griffin was fired, which is such a dumbass move. And you don’t even have Griff. Dude, David Griffin literally wins every trade he makes. And he doesn’t just win, Doc. He gets blowouts, bro. Blowouts. Like what? He had to trade Anthony Davis, right? You had to. It was forced by Clutch Sports. Braun wanted it. You just ship was sailed. A ad wanted out in New Orleans. He got a boatload for Anthony Davis, dude. He set up the Pel anyway. You blow him out. You can’t trade Zion. This team is completely screwed, bro. Completely screwed. I’m not a huge fan of their coach. I really thought that he if you’re gonna, you know, whack Griffin and you keep Willie Green for a new GM and you keep Willie Green for a new GM coming in. That makes no sense, dude. Literally no. What has Willie Green done to like have a real stronghold on that job? I’m like, please tell me you you got coaches getting whacked all over the place, dude. My guy Michael Malone, I see him in a suit on the court like see him in a suit on the court like Brian [ __ ] Winhorse and with Scott Vanpelt throwing to him on a two-way. Michael Malone, the head coach formerly of the Nugs, wearing a suit looking like a TV guy. He should not be a TV guy. He should not be a TV guy. He should be a damn coach, Doc. So, Willie Green has a job, but Michael Malone does not have a job. Make it make sense. Um, can you make it make sense? No, it Um, can you make it make sense? No, it doesn’t. It doesn’t make sense. It just doesn’t make Taylor Jenkins is on a fishing boat somewhere with his dad. Okay. He should be coaching somewhere. Um, all right. Let’s get to players to watch here. Uh, heading into next year, Doc, for the New Orleans Pelicans. Who do you have your eye on? Who are you do you have your eye on? Who are you monitoring throughout the off season and maybe even if you have a sleeper pick or maybe even if you have a sleeper pick or something like that? Well, I mean, you say Bruce Brown is gone. I I’d love to see him go back is gone. I I’d love to see him go back to Denver. He was very productive in Denver. Um he he after he left Denver and went to Indie and and wherever else he went, it wasn’t very fun. He hasn’t really done what he can do because he he’s got done what he can do because he he’s got a fantasy friendly game, man. So I like I like Bruce Brown. I like Carlo Matovich um as a future, you know, something. Um I used to like Brandon Boston. I think I’m I think I’m moving on from Brandon Boston. I used to really like Jordan Hawkins. I’m not feeling that so much anymore. Dude, there’s just I I I I love anymore. Dude, there’s just I I I I love Jose Alvarado, but do I love him in New Jose Alvarado, but do I love him in New Orleans? Not really. No. Um it’s just a bunch of gloom and doom for me about about this team. There will be brighter conversations about more vibrant teams on the way for you. Uh we are making our on the way for you. Uh we are making our way through 30 teams uh fantasy style here on uh the uh fantasy NBA today with here on uh the uh fantasy NBA today with Rick Campla and Hall of Famer Steve Alexander. Um having a blast though while we’re doing this, man. So uh we want you guys uh to know man. So uh we want you guys uh to know about our season rap series. It’s being posted on sports ethos.com. Feel free to quote it uh and promote it and uh and quote it uh and promote it and uh and the articles are already published. So uh it’s our season rap. Check it out. sportsee ethos.com. all of our um Twitter handles as well. So, players to watch for me, Doc. Uh for the Pelicans heading into the year, Trey Murphy, uh how’s the recovery going? When is he cleared, you know, uh to return to basketball activities? When is he cleared for contact and all that kind of stuff? Uh cuz he’s he’s a potentially huge fantasy player. And so, I I and I huge fantasy player. And so, I I and I just want to know coming off the torn labum like where you at? You coming back uh right around the start of the year? I uh right around the start of the year? I mean, that’s will shoot his value up for me. Or are we going to miss a couple of me. Or are we going to miss a couple of months and basically a third of the season? What are we doing here? So, hugely watching Trey Murphy. Um, and then, uh, the CJ McCullum C.J. McCullum might get traded this offseason, Doc. He might get traded on draft night. All right. He’s, uh, got 30 million bucks left on, you know, a one-year deal with this team. And, uh, and I’m I’m really kind of thinking he feels kind of in the way. you know, his feels kind of in the way. you know, his timeline is not uh is not aligned with Herb and Zion and Murphy and De Jonte. The the timeline is off there. So, that makes it kind of an odd fit. And uh I I makes it kind of an odd fit. And uh I I think CJ McCollum would be a lot happier balling on a contender. Um also, does a conversation brew about McCollum being that guy to come off the bench when you that guy to come off the bench when you have everybody healthy and then you’ve got that sort of extra dude that that can’t uh that the starting five can’t fit. So, does that conversation billow a little bit in the off seasonason? And we know, wow, CJ’s coming off the bench this year. Okay. Well, that changes calculations. He’ll be he was at 21 PPG this year, Doc. He ain’t scoring 21 PPG off of anybody’s bench. Okay. So, he’d probably go down to like a 1516, which would really sap a lot of his value, man. So, th those are the things I’m looking for for the Pels this off season. And I’m what I’m not looking for is uh photoshopped or AI photos of Zion Williamson looking slim and trim. That That’s what I’m not watching for. Your uh your answer was much better than mine. I don’t know about that. I don’t know about that. It was killing it, dude. You swatted out like judge. Another judgy and blast. Uh Doc is What’s up? Oh, go and blast. Uh Doc is What’s up? Oh, go ahead. No, I had nothing. I was You mentioned uh you mentioned Taylor Jenkins is fishing on a boat with his dad, right? I I have no idea that was a dad, right? I I have no idea that was a total stab in the dark. Just saying. So, I wa I watched Godfather 2 this morning and spoiler alert when when they take Fredo out in the boat right on the lake Fredo out in the boat right on the lake at the end of the movie. I have you seen at the end of the movie. I have you seen it? Oh, of course. Of course. My question is, if Michael Corleó is such a badass and has all that Corleó is such a badass and has all that money, why are Fredo and his boy going out in a boat that’s not big enough to out in a boat that’s not big enough to even put you and I in it? Hardly, let even put you and I in it? Hardly, let alone those two guys and a kid. Like, why is it a little tiny rowboat? Why doesn’t he have like a a badass boat like a Chris Craft or what? I I just like a Chris Craft or what? I I just thought that was funny that this dude with all this money like and lives right on the lake, his boat is a twoman rowboat. That just struck me this morning for the first time. I’ve seen it 20 times. I never thought about it before, but today I was really questioning why Michael Carle doesn’t have a badass boat. Um, by the way, Fredo did not uh did not make it back to Fredo did not uh did not make it back to shore. Uh, Fredo did not make it back. Spoiler alert on a 50-year-old movie or whatever that was. Uh, I I would actually you’ve got you’ve piqued my interest. I would like to ask Martin Scorsesi about that. Like why what’s up with the boat, dude? Um, it did did it with the boat, dude? Um, it did did it make it a little bit more dramatic that it’s a small little vulnerable boat? I don’t know. Was that like the motif they were going for there? I don’t know, dude. As opposed to some kick-ass Chris Craft or whatever you were talking about. Maybe they were out of money. Maybe the production, maybe they we’re down to the end. They’re like, “We gotta just give me a boat. Any boat.” Be funny if they show up with that boat Be funny if they show up with that boat and and uh Francis Ford Koba’s like, “We’re not using this boat. Who brought me this boat?” They’re like, “Sorry, boss. That’s all we got.” Dude, was it was that uh Francis Ford Copala or was that Martin Scorsesei that did The Godfather? I think it was Copela, wasn’t it? Okay. I’m confused. I I don’t know. Uh but yeah, maybe dramatic effect. I don’t know. But uh but that that I can tell you this Doc um but that that I can tell you this Doc um that was a big budget flick back in the that was a big budget flick back in the day like back back in the day. Uh these day like back back in the day. Uh these were the hugest movies going. Okay. So there is no shortage of money. There never is in Hollywood. Francis Francis Ford Copela. Yeah. Okay. He did The Godfather. I thought Scorsesei did the Godfather. My bad. My bad. Bring me a boat, dude. Bring me a boat. any boat. Some intern shows up with that piece of crap. He’s probably like, “Are you serious right now?” Like, “This is the best you could do. Can somebody get me another Can somebody give me a yacht?” And they’re like, “No, dude. We got to shoot this now.” Like, it’s now or never. Oh my god. Oh my god. it’s now or never. Oh my god. Oh my god. Put him in the Can’t even get like a 22 Put him in the Can’t even get like a 22 foot Sea or anything or a pontoon boat. You can’t even have just an old rickety pontoon boat. No, it was literally the tiniest rowboat they could find. Absolutely hilarious, dude. Absolutely hilarious. All right, on that note, folks, uh we are out of here.
