This is INSANE… MAJOR update on Kuminga’s Future | Warriors News

this is insane We got a big update on Jonathan Kaminga’s future New reporting just dropped with clues that shift how the Warriors are planning to handle this situation in the off season Apparently Mike Dunlevy has a plan but it’s not what most of us expected And somebody better tell Steve Car cuz he’s going to be pissed So in this video we’re breaking down the new reports the strategy behind a move like this for the Warriors and the impact this is going to have on their off season and their ability to upgrade the roster First though hit subscribe for me one time Thank you to the 12,000 who’ve joined the Warriors Digest community here If you’re part of that percentage who watches our videos on a regular basis but you haven’t subscribed hit the button It helps the channel so that we can get into the news like this here Breaking The Warriors are likely to hang on to Jonathan Kaminga and are not expected to move on from the 22-year-old forward This is per Monty Pool who’s been a longtime Warriors insider here in the Bay Area If you grew up or have lived in this area you know him from his time at the East Bay Times Oakland Tribune now with NBC Sports Bay Area Very well connected to the Warriors since the days of Antoine Jameson and Danny Forson and Mookie Bllelock like way back He knows what he’s talking about This is what he’s hearing These are the headlines coming out here SFGate There’s finally some clarity with the Jonathan Kaminga Warriors future All of this from Montyool’s statements in the latest Warriors podcast He said “The scuttlebutt around the NBA is that the Warriors will very likely find a way to hang on to JK It doesn’t mean he’s going to be a long-term answer They can just move him later.” So this really gives us some insight into what the Warriors may be planning to do here He went on to say “The Warriors don’t seem to be concerned about how this plays out.” So that tells me that they’re flexible The one thing I’ve heard consistently is that even his meaning Kaminga’s backers are not saying “Oh yeah we got to keep him because he’s our next franchise player.” I’m not hearing that So what this is telling us here is that the Warriors probably don’t have any buyers in the trade market for Jonathan Kaminga right now It’s very complicated with the sign and trade with his money only counting for half of his first year salary in outgoing trade value So it’s really hard to get things to match up and find a good deal The Warriors don’t want to just give away Kaminga for nothing So probably right now they’re not finding a good deal out there But things can change There are dominoes that need to fall here in NBA free agency and in the off season in trades that are most likely going to take place Whether it be Giannis or some other sort of move happening here Kevin Durant one of those big chips needs to fall that sets a lot of other things in motion to where teams re-evaluate and maybe they decide they do have room to trade or a necessity to trade for somebody like Kaminga But it actually is really advantageous for the Warriors not to trade Kaminga right now And I’ll tell you why here I’ll explain this as we get into it But how did we get here i mean this is a surprise I think for a lot of us because we kept hearing chatter about the Warriors moving Kaminga And I’ll remind you here of what Steve Kerr had to say just when the off season began in a podcast with Tim Kawakami another veteran writer here in the Bay Area Steve Kerr said “It’s a tricky one because Jonathan is obviously gifted and wants to play a bigger role and wants to play more For me I’ve been asked to win And right now he’s not a guy who I can say “I’m going to play 38 minutes with the roster that we have Steph and Jimmy and Draymond and put that puzzle together that way and expect to win.” I mean those were harsh words from Steve Curr And we saw with the DNPs towards the end of the season it was baffling the way that the situation was playing out here as the Warriors seemingly were tanking Kaminga’s value as a way to probably keep him But I think that we just solved the riddle of the speculation here I mean as I’m talking this out it seems very likely that maybe all along the Warriors wanted to keep Kaminga and this was a way to tank his value so that they didn’t have as many competitors here trying to sign him as a restricted free agent But if they are still trying to move him it is advantageous to hang on to him As we look here at the way the Warriors salary cap breaks down here So the Warriors are under the first apron Now if they were to sign Jonathan Kaminga this is kind of what this would look like here where you know maybe kind of the chatter is somewhere between 20 to $30 million Let’s split the difference here and say it’s 25 Now the Warriors offered him 30 million last year So this would now be a mistake here as he would lose value potentially But in a deal here if the Warriors were to sign him to a contract like this and try to trade him right now in the off season he’d only be worth half the value so $12.5 million outgoing which makes it harder to land a big star who’s going to make a difference on the roster Now come December he will count for the full value of his first year So you can then easily start to put some more pieces together to trade for a bigger name Right now if you’re going to make a trade with Jonathan Kaminga on a sign-in trade and say you give him that $25 million a year and he only counts for 12 a.5 going out you’re going to need to give up more assets to get the trade values to match going out So you’re going to have to give up somebody like Moody who has an 11 million contract When we look here at the way that the cap breaks down here you can see the most expensive assets that the Warriors have they are not moving I mean Steph obviously not getting moved Jimmy most likely 99% probably not getting moved here unless it’s in a deal for a Giannis and it’s some sort of way that the Warriors can make the contracts match Draymond Green there’s a lot of chatter about him being potentially included in trade rumors I don’t buy any of them Dre is sticking here So the next logical option your biggest contract here to combine with Kaminga to make it valuable enough would be Moses Moody And now maybe the Warriors don’t want to give something like that up Maybe the Warriors aren’t getting any offers for Kaminga And so they’re like look we’re going to hold on to him We’re going to keep him around until December when we can trade him for the full value of that first year And also maybe when the market changes things will happen Injuries will happen in the NBA Teams will be making an unexpected run Teams will be unexpectedly sucking and so they will be looking to make deals You could have disgruntled stars I mean look at the situation with how the Warriors got Jimmy Butler completely unexpected You never know what’s going to be happening there in December when he turns into a full value contract But also there are some really interesting things here and that the Warriors don’t forget they have trade exceptions that they gained in the Jimmy Butler trade at the deadline that they can also use to sweeten the deal to absorb a bigger contract So you’ve got almost $11 million you can add into a deal with Kaminga Say Kaminga is signed for 25 million You wait until after December to trade him You include those trade exceptions Now all of a sudden you’ve got a guy who’s worth 3540 million not to mention any other contracts that you could add in there The possibilities are endless here if the Warriors Wait I would say that the disadvantage there is that the Warriors end up in a situation where they’re hanging on to Kaminga he’s a little bit disgruntled and there’s just a media storm the whole season leading up to December and leading up to the trade deadline in February that distracts and also you don’t get to add that piece in the off season here and it there’s time to get that player acclimated whether it’s a say a deal for Cam Johnson happened and then you’ve got the whole off season you’ve got pre-season you’ve got the early part of the season for these players to start to click together it’s just going to be a lot more difficult to add a major piece at the deadline and expect it all to miraculously come together and have them click well enough to make a finals run there It’s just going to be a little bit more risky But I want to remind you Bobby Marx who writes for ESPN he reminded us that all of the Warriors offseason depends on Jonathan Kaminga He said it all depends on him It really comes down to that he basically controls free agency in Golden State because if they sign him to a contract and bring him back then that’s really it as far as they can do this off season here So when we look at the situation here when it comes to the salary cap I mean they just don’t have a lot of options here Uh the main thing in the lower right hand corner there is the exception where you’ve got the non-t taxpayer midlevel exception it The Warriors are going to have to work a very crafty deal in the first year to make sure that they remain below the first apron uh there so that they don’t run into situations with having to um use or not be able to use some of these things like the midlevel exception here for $14 million where you could theoretically potentially attract a guy like Brook Lopez Maybe I think he’s going to command more but you could get some more uh efficiency and an upgrade there in your center position with that mid-level exception So but that’s basically going to be all that they can do once they resign Kaminga So a lot of the pipe dreams that we had of upgrading major positions and multiple of them just may not happen if the Warriors have to hang on to Kaminga and they can’t work out a signing trade here in the offseason So I want to hear what you have to think Do you think that this is uh a good thing for the Warriors here having to hang on to Kaminga maybe finding a way to make it work i just don’t see Steve Kerr really uh implementing him into the offense in a way that fully makes Kaminga happy He wants to be an all-star Steve Kerr wants him to play a very hyperspecific role on this team and wants him to be kind of that energy 3 and D Shawn Marian type of forward And I just don’t think that’s what Kaminga is looking for He wants to be more of an offensive focal point at this point in his career and prove that he can do that You tell me how you think this is all going to play out because it’s going to be fascinating the rest of the off season And until then I’ll talk to you tomorrow Peace

  1. 😭😂😭 if I was a betting man I know that’s a joke you can’t keep draymond jimmy and kuminga ..kumingas team is not about to give the warriors the benefit of the doubt and help them because they won’t get what they want in return just for him to sit on the bench and get blamed while diminishing his value 💀😂😭 I hope kuminga and his team is not that stupid and make them stand on what they said about him

  2. Kerr has not allowed the young players to develop and in turn try to get more from the role players on the flip of a coin…JK should leave… they dropped the ball on that kid…Curry is old and can no longer carry the team, creating a system that does not focus entirely on Curry would allow the team to blossom as a whole

  3. I think dray should start coming off the bench. My starting line up would be steph moody jimmy jk post!!!! You would have youth energy size and shooting to space floor for curry!!!

  4. Brea, Yang. Brea is an outstanding shooter , not only the best shooter in the draft. Yang is a center with 250+ . A small giant with skill and touch. The warriors are way out off money. They are poor. So play, what you can get.

  5. Draymond the other day said you win by doing whats needed, not by doing what you want. Very ironic cause Kerr refused to adjust his offense and implement his 3rd best player until AFTER the Steph injury. The stubborn coach is why they wont win. Ask the Knicks what just happened to their coach who refused to adjust.

  6. Fire Steve there will be continue drama !!! The Warriors needsanother Coach that know how to Coach, all the stuff going on ,with this team.

  7. If this is the case, then we're fucked next year, and we're set to be fucked in the near future. JK is the future of a bottom feeder. I hope the kuming guzzlers enjoy it his 20 meaningless points per game the next five years.

  8. C'mon, Kerr's not asking Kuming to be a hyper specific role, he's just asking the guy to freaking rebound, set screens, and not get lost on the court every other possesion, and this delusional clown thinks he ought to score 25 off of isos.

  9. Feel sorry for Kuminga, He has been direspecrmted by Kerr for four years culminating in the stupidist thing ever in the NBA…benching a player that can score 30 in 25 minutes I a playoff game…why not 35 minutes =40. Kerr's ego is exponentially out of wack!!!! He has had 4 years to incorporate JK into the offense, failed miserable, just like Durant and Poole. If he had Warriors would still be playing!!!!!

  10. I want jk to stay but kerr is a little bit right: jk needs to became a stable 2 way defensive player. Huge athleticism but he needs that defensive IQ and that will make his presence unparalleled regardless of what Kerr wants simple!

  11. JK was offered and turned down 30. Why do you and others keep saying 25 for JK. Makes no sense. I see him signing for more 35-37.

  12. Crazy how nobody thinks a 22 year old can get better at basketball. Like that’s not even a possibility to yall 😂😂😂

  13. It will be a make or break year for JK. He plays like an individual who wants to be star player without being A Warrior.

He really NEVER became a Warrior. Jimmy Buttler became a Warrior in 6 weeks. JK has been with The Franchise for Four Years and Never been a Warrior.

It's a Make or Break year for JK. Can He Get'It?

    Maybe. Don't know … 😐

  14. Been saying all along that JK is a gifted athlete who is very young. Just needs a little time. He has great natural abilities, which are hard to find in the NBA. Start grooming him now! Spend time teaching him. Ain't rocket science. Try some TLC. Some support. Some committment. Some more minutes! And PLEASE stop handcuffing the whole damn team just for another ring!!! He'll be an all star somewhere. Why not here? And we've already got him! And don't forget the key injuries which shut them down this time. Could easily happen again with our gereatric hall of famers whose bodies are headed south!

  15. This reporting suggests the W’s position is to tell JK’s agent and the NBA they are matching any offer he gets, to drive down the market price for him and their intent is to sign him to a deal that gives them a contract they can trade with a big number. W’s will give him a bigger deal than they must to keep him (if he has no offers). My guess is they will give him as much as keeps them under second apron. In any case, this approach says they are prepared to bring JK back in short term knowing he won’t be traded in Summer. Could be a power move by Lacob to pressure Kerr into making it work with JK, and then leaving flexibility for a mid-season trade or a next off season one if it doesn’t work. I don’t believe what happens with other player moves has anything to do with it. The fact is if JK is signed his value is not great in trades until at least after the next season starts, and to get value in return if he is traded, his deal must be big. One of the more fascinating RFA situations ever given all the dynamics at play. I still think Draymond is the most logical meaningful trade piece at the moment.

  16. Fans should relax ok….still trying to hype and point it out to kerr…as a former NBA star player said after JK decline the last offer to him rhis former NBA player said that he will surely suffer by not accepting that 30 million…and it did happened…and by the way players who comes from Ignite that fans are so high on expectation from these players can anybody answer me what they are now?like Jalen Green,Jonathan Kiminga and Scoot Henderson?you see what happen to Green of houston and Kuminga of warriors…they are all good individual players but not a team players…thats why i think Ignite program has been terminated…players that are have legitimate experience collegiately are more likeable…because these are players that comes from a team program and a team system unlike Ignite every man for himself to make a name a be a possible top 10 or top 5 in the drafts….

  17. All the fire Kerr comments makes me realize I’m surrounded by troglodytes and that I shouldn’t watch this channel.
