2000-04-30 WCR1 Game 3 Los Angeles Lakers vs Sacramento Kings
marv thanks very much the Sack Kings trying to do here what Seattle did yesterday and Minnesota just did win at home in game three and stay alive starting lineups unchanged with Sacramento hoping that a change of venue will change the tone of this series they lost game one by 10 and it could have been more they lost game two by 24 o’neal if he’s going to hit that they have even less chance than they had coming in look at that but that’s the shot though that they wanted to not give him the dunks and the layups what they have done in the first two games of this series these three guys have combined for 80 points tequille O’Neal is going to get his points look what he’s shooting but Glenn Rice and Kobe Bryant to get 45 points today i don’t think they have any chance to win this game after a foul by Glenn Rice Jason Williams makes one of two up here early Anderson lost it lakers take off on the break [Music] harper here’s Devots with the jumper that’s an important shot because we know Shaq is not going to come out of the paint now the first two games of their last 10 they began the year 9-1 eventually they were 27 and 14 they’re well under 500 since and Kobe Bryant puts the jumper down see they’ve had no answers for Kobe Bryant what the Lakers can do Bob again in a sense in the triangle offense playing the same role that Michael Jordan did weber moves in and powers a basket and you can see there in no comment if out of the offense nothing develops you’re down to 5 seconds on the shot clock you put it in Kobe’s hands as the Bulls did with Michael and he does something like that right on Q that’s what you talk about getting guys in positions on the floor he’s got to get down there in that low post harper fakes his way past his man and misses o’neal won’t again that’s the that’s the area that the Kings have just really struggled in as they lead by five do that in the first two games and this what I was talking about they’ve missed the Lakers have missed 90 shots in the first two games 39 offensive rebounds that’s 43% of the missed shots they have gotten back now what does that do it forces the Kings when the Lakers score to be able to take the ball out of the basket now they can wall Jason Williams in they can’t fast break they get into a half court game and that’s where the Lakers are at their best you ever make something happen here’s with the jumper and Harper with the rebound the Lakers look to run kobe all the way to the rack plus the foul well there’s the transition defense out kobe Bryant goes length of the floor there’s a cross match nick Anderson has got to get over to him three-point play for Bryant who start in the early going weber was fouled and he’ll come to the line a year ago to better than 75% this season and scrambling to try to find somebody back line williams slices through the defense and lays it in shack off the dribble banks it home wow how good does that feel tubox is hammered and a Laker foul but back to Shaq for a moment yes he’s Goliath yes he’s the strongest man in the league and maybe the strongest man ever to play in the NBA but his skills are very refined that’s a great point Bob how many big guys can be out step out on the floor with that kind of bulk and size and do that now Shaq goes out they’re going to have to take advantage of this of his two fouls if not keep going at it maybe he’ll get his third the Lakers ask for time with 357 to play in the first that little cool hand that he brings to keep his team stable in this kind of environment when you have a chance maybe to defender and what’s happened look at his minutes since his points have gone down that’s with the addition of Weber and Debb so he’s no longer a primary weapon like he was the years before they got here that’s why it’s a very tough fit for him on this team because he’s really a low post player and they need a shooter in that position so they’re going to have to reevaluate where he fits into this team in the offse little jump and he beat the shot clock and there was a foul evidently it would have been a 24se second violation because I don’t think the shot drew Iron before the game about denying Shaq position he says we try to get him to receive the ball as far out from the basket as possible but Jack is far from a one-dimensional player rather than the moment corus Williamson scores that’s where Corus Williamson is effective down on that block it’s a one-point game ryan can’t quiet the crowd sacramento can take the lead but they don’t all right I’m going to say it again don’t leave your feet to pass what happened sacramento still has never led in this game rick Adam has to be very happy though at the start of this period kobe gets the bounce to complete a gorgeous move now Kobe’s got a bad wrist and he and Blotty are tangled up we’ll have to see if he’s okay shaq got it deep on Devots plus the foul devots and Adelman are right on this one instead Bl gets his third foul ball goes out of bounds who touched it last sacramento did now you talked about the long the big picture for the Lakers they have the opportunity to be able to do that well that knowing when to make the spectacular play when to make the simple play we see Rice out of the timeout bury the three but more importantly when he doesn’t have the basketball seven on the shot clock his three isn’t there it rolls to Harper bryant brings out and Kobe scores with a whirling move after evading Williams attempt to slap the ball away oh we’ll get a good shot corus Williamson wide open that’s a good shot in transition take your time now you’ve got to get some defensive stop harper curling into the paint rejected by Devox sacramento with numbers williams pushing it flying pass to Anderson for the reverse now now you have to be grown playoffs you leave your feet you’re looking around oh where am I going to go at the last minute and he finds Dick Anderson he bails him out and gets the layup they’re ability he leaps in the air does a 360 spin and lays the ball in the basket and so much is talked about this Laker team and Shaquille O’Neal and how great he’s become and there’s no question about that but when you talk about a championship team the emergence of this guy Kobe Bryan on both ends of the floor has taken them to the next level in my opinion still plenty of time nine on the shot clock stoyakovich with a turnaround big hoop how much better is he playing today at home remember he started out the game he got that layup weber setting up high at the moment williams drives by Shaw uh we’re not saying that you know we should have done it we’re upset about losing there but this is our home and uh we feel you know we feel confident here and we’re NBA team too so this series is far from over and coming into this game afterwards no big celebration you guys realized you’re out ready to do business Tony i think we were confident we knew what we could do at our house and uh they’re a good team and we just had to defend our home court and we did a good job of that tonight how about the challenge for you coming out playing Kobe also settling down a lot of good defense today uh it’s always tough to guard Kobe he gets a lot of shots he’s a great player and I think I got a lot of help from my teammates and he still got going but uh we did it as a team today all right and the
