Erik Spoelstra Leaving Miami Heat For New York Knicks Noise Stupidly Grows

welcome on in guys tomoman here with you and thanks for checking out the channel hope you’re doing good out there if you guys could subscribe that’d be great and appreciate you stopping by the channel so I was on uh I did a radio hit on Saturday i was on with my buddy Shawn Lavine who was on the Infinity Sports Network formerly CBS Sports Radio um and you know my guy got me all in a tizzy cuz he’s like bringing me on here we were talking some cats we were talking some UFC but he also mentions uh Eric Spolstra and the idea that Eric Spolstra would he end up going to the New York Knicks and this has been a popular thing that’s now been kicked around because for some reason the New York Knicks fired their coach Tom Tibido without an obvious uh replacement in mind it it appeared like the lead pony was Jason Kid but uh according to Mark Stein they’re going to deny that and so Jason Kidd is not going to go to the New York Knicks he is going to stay in Dallas and likely coach Cooper Flag that appears where it’s going to go for Jason Kidd and and uh all it goes is now maybe Jason Kid makes us stink i don’t know but there have been multiple talking heads now who are trying to like squeeze in and try to be like why don’t the Knicks call the heat about Eric Spolstra bill Simmons tried this propaganda this week where he’s like text [Music] me ringer that was basically what was there and I’m just like “Hey man everybody’s gota you know I get it we We all gotta circle the buzzards on on certain things and we all you know got to come up with ideas i’m not against anybody coming up with ideas but I I I am fascinated by this idea that the New York Knicks are going towards right where it’s like everybody thinks it they remain delusional with this right where they they still think of themselves truly as one of the premier jobs and destinations in all of sports which they just simply have not been they have not been it’s tremendous what Jaylen Brunson has turned himself into and all credit goes to Jaylen Brunson in the world but Jaylen Brunson was not thought of as an uber dubber star when he ended up going to the New York Knicks plenty of basketball greats have seen their legacy smeared by the New York Knicks especially coaches you think about Isaiah Thomas you think about Phil Jackson phil Jackson’s basketball reputation was about as pristine as it gets all he had to do was not want to run the New York Knicks which agreed he did a halfass horse bleep job of doing and you know was basically running the team for Montana or trying to probably high on Iawaska he was doing Aaron Rogers before Aaron Rogers was doing Aaron Rogers but nonetheless even the great Phil Jackson who you know has not always had the kindest of things to say about Eric Sper remember back in the day where he referred to what the Heat were doing as Xbox basketball it was very against it which was hilarious coming from him um but nonetheless Phil Jackson ends up going to New York and basically never heard from the basketball earth again it was that it was that bad and so this idea that Eric Spolstra wants to leave basically a situation that no other coach has on the planet right now it’s not just that Eric Spolstra is fortified in Miami and it’s not just that Eric Spolstra is respected and revered by the fans the organization did he have his critiques this year for sure but you’re basically talking about here are my options here i can have a lifetime deal with a franchise which nobody basically nobody else has could probably end up cozying into a front office job whenever I choose to i live this life of anonymity down here in Miami remember I don’t know if you guys saw this uh Tik Tok that I actually saw on X that was out uh and it was Eric Spolster at a Marlins game and he was very confused because two autograph hounds had photos of him at a Marlins game which is top-notch autograph hounding I got to say like the idea that you’re bringing Eric you got Eric Spolerra photos in the truck and your buddy Pete’s like hey suppose here maybe we could wait out wait it out there’s like 14 people there at the game let’s see if we can get him and he does and he signs it but he’s very confused you can see imagine going from that to then going to New York where everyone is going to hound you question you already can do the sports talk radio if it doesn’t go well of is this guy has he ever been that great and people not really understanding the greatness that he brings to the table and you’re also going there with nobody appreciating what your resume truly is um I don’t necessarily see that as a media environment that would work great for Spo spo’s got a pretty good thing going on down here in South Florida right like there are very good reporters who cover the team but this is not this is not like New York where they’re going to have tenfold of what you have covering the team down here and everyone’s searching for something it’s not really the case down here but media aside like he probably could figure that stuff out but I just couldn’t imagine if you go there and you don’t win the title in three years if that if you don’t win the title in three years unless he knew Jiannis Takmpo was for sure going to the Knicks if you don’t win the title in three years you’re probably fired and then you lost the only thing in sports that nobody has like you in this sport which is job security which he truly has and the only way I could really see it is a like I just told you unless Eric Bolsher is under some knowledge that the New York Knicks are for sure going to make a seismic move that would get him there two um that and then this is maybe the bigger if there was truly a rift between him and the front office and and Pat Riley specifically but I don’t really think that there is like yes Pat Riley came out of the end of last season and he said that he had never seen a you know sp so burnt out that he had been dealing with so much and that he really needed him to to to reset and recharge his batteries and this has been a tumultuous few years for him from a personal standoint point from the Jimmy Butler thing ending the way that it did um and I think that it probably does have whatever was going on with Spo like probably there was a point where it can lock you in it could it could make you what was the term Jim used to use stupidly locked in it could probably have you there and then you have it goes from there to you burn out and you forget how many timeouts you have or don’t have in a game but I just and I just also what do the New York Knicks have to offer Eric Spolstra under other than a false sense of prestige you know like when Pat Riley came down to Miami it was he basically got everything here for a king’s ransom right like you took New York to heights that they hadn’t been you were Mr armani but you come down here and you get a huge chunk of ownership a piece of the pie you get to run basketball operations and you’re still the Don the godfather and you get to coach the team what do the Knicks have to offer Eric Spolstra truly like I get it and then we we’ll go to the Heath side of things for a second too but like what do they have to offer him is it going to be running basketball operating well that’s Leon Rose right like they have their guys who are happy with the way things are this was supposedly a Leon Rose thing a lot of people have argued and said it’s a James Dolan thing um and then there’s also the James like you’re going to work for an owner who is regarded as an ass clown you know has has you know has kicked fans out and banned them for life has beefed with team legends luminaries famous fans um and just you know just can’t help himself because it is his organization and he’s just going to do what he wants to do then you add on top of it on the other spectrum you have Mickey Harrison who’s going into the Hall of Fame this year and telling you “Yeah my philosophy is hire people and get the hell out of the way.” That’s a huge dichotomy to like what’s the pull there like when we talked about Sportland years ago right July Sports Talk so but I got a lot of heat on sports radio because I merely suggested the idea and this was let me put the backdrop of it eric Sper’s coach of the Miami Heat at the time Brad Stevens and him were going head-to-head spo had just beaten him in the playoffs in the bubble brad Stevens and him were going head-to-head uh I believe this was the year where the Celtics and he both had early exits and then that was it for Brad Stevens they end up handing the reigns he becomes head of basketball operations goes over to Eay Odoka who you know has his run with the Celtics but at the time you had to wonder for Eric Spoler like hey he had been coaching longer than Brad Stevens at a higher level than Brad Stevens also had Young Family at the time was is that ever going to come is there ever going to be burnout and could he ever do it here in Miami where he is king of everything uh when Pat Riley’s still around and mind you this was 5 years ago we’re going back so Pat Riley was 75 still old but not 80 um and at the time uh I believe the the the Blazers were going through a transition and you had wondered would there be any part of Spo that would want to go to an organization like them be their Pat Riley he’s from there and in exchange now my in my suggestion I suggested that he get Damen Lillard as the as the flip but uh none of this happened but at least to that I could have said like look he’s going to be revered there and it’s where he’s from like there’s going to be a level of respect that comes there when you go to a place like New York there’s no respect because you’re looked upon as like you’re the next guy who’s going to be trying to get them over the hump and probably fail because most do and I’m just trying to think like what’s the thing that the Knicks offer other than you get to coach the New York Knicks oo Eric Sp like imagine offering that to Eric Spolstra it’d be like oh my goodness and you’re already sitting on you know an eight-year hundred plus million dollar extension like you’re already amongst the highest paid coaches in the league you have basically a lifer wink deal with the Miami Heat you probably could eventually move up to the front office whenever you want to cuz as much as Pat Riley is an ageless wonder you got to think the end is somewhere in sight um you pick your staff and you know you you basically have the organization the only organization that probably would back you in a player beef so I don’t know man like I it just for me to see the Miami Heat and Eric Sper’s relationship come to an end to go to New York things would have to be really bad between him and Pat Riley and I just don’t think that they’re at that spot you know I I I don’t I don’t believe that that we’re at a spot where where Eric Spolster is ready to be rats off a ship off the Heat organization i don’t think um and and the like the only way is to think like that you would be there is I never wanted Tyrie Terry Roier and I never wanted Kyle Lowry and I never wanted and you guys made me and force me and did me all these moves and it’s like yeah but I don’t think that Spo is at that point like I think Spo has input like they’re not going to saddle Spo with a player he doesn’t want or doesn’t think can work um and then you go to New York and you’re like well I don’t know like if I if if they want to trade for a Carl Anthony Towns and you didn’t want in on that you don’t necessarily I don’t know if you’d have the same votage that you would here so to me the only way the Knicks get it done is like they make they got to make him a godfather offer to run the organization and the way the Knicks are offering this up is you’re the guy who gets to get the Knicks over the finish line and Eric Sper is probably thinking to himself “Oh wow what a what a what a what a great honor that’s what I’ve been looking for the entire life to get the the the the New York Knicks over the finish line.” Um and and then it’s like and if I don’t what am I out in three years um and then the other thing is like all right so he’s also under contract for I guess seven more seasons like what do the Heat get out of that like cuz if you’re the Heat and you’re looked upon as having the guy like what do the New York Knicks have to offer you cuz like I feel like it starts at a minimum of like two first round picks cuz I don’t know like what the player personnel moves because it is a salary cap sport so I don’t know what the flips skis has to be for you to agree to that like legitimately is it you have to send Duncan Ron Harry Roier for OG Anobi and a first round pick and and Eric Spolstra like is that what the Heat would have to go to like at a bare minimum cuz like look no one’s doing this if you have to trade Jaylen Brunson i don’t think that the Heat would do would trade spo for Carl Anthony Town so like when I made up this scenario years ago about him going to Portland at least the prize was yeah but Damen Lillard like that’s what you’re getting back and I’m talking Damen Lillard at like 28 or I guess that 29 at the time not even not even Dame when Dame wanted to come to the Heat i’m talking before Dame wanted to come to the Heat like what is the Knicks piece that would entice Miami to do this i don’t think they have it so I don’t know it just seems like a bunch of stuff that’s out i don’t know what and and that kind of goes to like the ineptitude of the New York Knicks is like you had Don Tibido and you fired him and you apparently were thinking about firing the players upset but you didn’t have the replacement in mind and and right now I I truly don’t know who the guys like I guess Michael Malone is the dude you would go and be like ah he just won the championship bid owner he feels like he’d fit fit in New York beautifully um but I haven’t heard a lot of noise around him i’ve heard more noise about around Spo than I have Michael Malone um but all of it’s just been like very like okay but use your big brain like why why is Eric SP because everyone’s going well the Heat are closer to the Knicks than the Knicks it’s like all right but you guys weren’t that close like get out of here you got you guys barely put up a fight against the Pacers like you you’re acting you’re acting here like you were you you’re uh you know starting up some some incredible journey and run here like it’s the Eastern Conference so like the Heat get Kevin Durant uh and and and make you don’t think that he can pass the Knicks next year like get out of here you don’t think Eric Ber’s scoffing at that so I don’t know i I’m not surprised that the noise is there because people are going to find some way to hook in on who the New York Knicks who will be their great savior because Tibs wasn’t good enough and yeah Eric Sper is one of the guys that has one of the bonafide resumes getting to the finals as much as he has having the championships that he does as few losing seasons as he does only been swept twice in his life um but I’m I’m like but what are the Knicks offering to him that would make him want to leave i just don’t think that they got any of those cards it would have to be there there would have to be some seismic move that the Knicks had that none of us know about and he would have to be like so fed up with the Heat organization and I don’t think either of those things are on deck

Tobin reacts to the noise from pseudo basketball experts that continue to try and make Erik Spoelstra leaving the Miami Heat for the New York Knicks a thing. We entertain the stupidity and explain why it’s so unlikely for the Heat coach to leave for The Big Apple and what would have to happen for him to actually leave Miami.

  1. This is what happens when the Heat dont feed the media anything. Now the media will go after the Heat because of the lack of content

  2. He's not going….Because the city of New York will hold him accountable. And that's something He never had to face….

  3. All you idiots talking about spoelstra needs to go are dumb. He regarded as one of the best coaches in the league for a reason. There aren't many coaches that could take a team to the finals twice with the talent he had to work with. You all are fools and thats why I pay no attention some of you fans. You dont use any logic before you start typing some foolishness.
