Fake Celtics Trades + The Indiana Pacers are AWESOME
what’s up everybody We are live on today’s episode of Green with Envy I’m joined by Alex Gonzalez Alex I really want to get rid of that uh intern title uh under your name We can figure out a new name for you here soon Um part of the Green with NV family but we’re going to talk about the um Indiana Pacers They’re amazing Come from behind victory as they do um in the NBA finals And we also got four fake Celtics trades for you on this episode of Coffee and Seas You know the deal Let’s lock in [Applause] What’s good everybody It’s your boy Greg Manus checking in How you doing How you living Uh this is an episode of Coffee and Seas brought to you by Wood Island Media Shout out to my guy Steve Ye out in LA doing big things Um I connected Alex with Steve earlier this week Alex without going into any details have you had a chance to chat with Steve yet Yeah we talked uh on Tuesday and I forgot to send in my portfolio but I’ll do that after the podcast Oh yeah He was super nice Uh great guy I’ll probably talk to him more later down the road Cool Yeah Steve’s the man Um let’s just change that little graphic down the bottom Coffee and Celtics brought to you by Wood Island Media I’m joined today by Alex Gonzalez On this episode we are talking about some fake Celtics trades So we’ll start with one just to kind of get all the Celtics fans Uh get those juices flowing there And then we’re going to talk a little bit about the Indiana Pacers and um just I don’t know how they do what they do but they did it again And we’ll talk about game one And then we’ll have we’ll finish the podcast with some more fake Celtics trades And if you are in the chat if you have some fake Celtics trades or just fake NBA trades um any comments that you want to drop just drop them in the chat And um these coffee and C’s Friday morning editions we like to make them as interactive as possible So we’d be happy to field any questions that you have and um talk a little bit about um anything could be life related right Alex just graduated from college So if you got some questions for Alex about what’s next in his life um what is it like being a college graduate in the year 2025 um throw them his way And you know me I’m um how old am I now God damn I don’t know how old I am right now Alex This is a little embarrassing 36 I’m 36 years old So if you got questions for a 36 year old dude who can’t remember his own age um you know just just throw them in the chat All right so we’re going to start with a Celtics trade Alex Um we just talked about some of the ones that we had kind of came up with I’ll let you pick which one you want to talk about first Uh well let’s do the one that you kind of hinted at last episode or at least brought up A little Garland trade with the Celtics Um I think this one’s interesting Yeah let’s talk about it So I’ve been thinking a lot about what the Celtics are going to be doing with their big man of the future problem right There’s been some people floating out there that Chris Taps Porzingis I think Kevin O’Connor was talking about his value um when he was talking with Chris Manx and said that Porzingis is one of those guys if he’s right you know he’s on an expiring contract so you can always trade him But if he he’s probably not going to command $30 million a year after like the continued health problem so you might be able to sign him say at $20 $20 million a year for the next three years or something like that But if Chriszingis is not your center of the future how can you get a center of the future to Boston And how can you get off of some money Right So here’s the deal that I constructed Um the Celtics acquire Max Struce old friend Max Streus um who I think would fit really well with Joe Mazula I’ve always um appreciated how his kind of like grittiness and his shooting ability have taken him from someone that was in the G-League getting cut by the Celtics in training camp into someone who is making you know $15 million a year Wendell Carter Jr is the big piece coming to Boston here This is a guy that drew a lot of comparisons to Al Horford um early in his career And you know Wendell Carter Jr I think he’s shown some flashes of being able to be um you know an offensive hub to in like the Andre Drummond dribble handoff at the elbow type of offense that you might be able to run through him And then so those are the two pieces coming to Boston Max Duce and Wendell Carter Jr The Cavs are the second team involved here They are acquiring Drew Holiday and Contavius Caldwell Pope So from a Cavs perspective um obviously I’m kind of burying the lead here but Darius Garland would be moved to the Orlando Magic in this deal right So Cavs perspective getting Drew Holiday and Contabius Codwell Pope these are some players that I think would really fit well with what they need based off of how they’ve performed in the past couple of playoffs right You get rid of Garland you bring in a guy like Holiday you also bring in a guy with um NBA championship experience in Caldwell Pope who’s also a really good defender So you go from an you know questionable defensive team to a pretty damn good defensive team If you can throw at a lineup of Mitchell Holiday Pope Allen and Mobley I think that’s a pretty damn good five defensively And then the Orlando Magic although they’re giving up on KCP after just signing him KCP was dog [ __ ] in the in the in the playoffs right And then Wendell Carter Jr you already have a lot of size on that team you can figure out a way maybe to to to fill his minutes with Bataz or maybe you bring in somebody else You slide Paulo up to the five whatever you want to do because you are now bringing in your point guard of the future and Darius Garland right Jaylen Suggs obviously is right now their their kind of point guard but he’s not a natural point guard and he’s more of like a two like in the Alex Caruso mold than he is in a traditional point guard mold Right So you’re bringing in Garland to pair with Suggs Vagner and Paulo and that’s your four of the future I think that’s a better timeline for them I think it makes more sense to get Vagner and Paulo off the ball And to me I think this is a win-win for for every single team Yeah honestly I agree When I first saw the trade I was a little skeptical but now that you know you kind of broke it down it does make sense I just can’t believe KCP is getting paid $23 million per year That’s what that’s what I’m like shocked at looking at this But for the Magic I mean Paulo’s already what 610 They also have Jonathan Isaac and Go Pataz So they’re not really struggling for size And if you have a chance to get Garland Yeah If you have a chance to get Garland who when healthy and on and off is a pretty incredible score I mean that’s a great pairing between Apollo and Garland I also like it from the Celtics perspective I feel like that Carter deal is kind of a little bit of a team friendly deal Only 12 million for him is not that bad Uh and I like Max Truce Obviously he can shoot the basketball and he’s a pretty good defender And for the Cavs you get a defensive guard which they kind of need They’ll have a big uh one-two punch between Holiday and Mitchell on defense They’re two more bigger guards You know what is Mitchell like 65 6’4 something like that And then Holiday obviously is a allNBA defender And then maybe if KCP can fix his shooting he’ll be more of an impact on the Cavs than he was in the Magic this year But I think yeah this is a pretty solid trade that all teams win And the Celtics do save $2.8 million and the Casually take on 800K So I mean I think it’s a win all around for all these teams Honestly man I think I may have just come up with like a trade that could happen Like I I know I know like these fake trades oftentimes like when when I’ve done the exercises with Will I’m just like “Yeah this is a cool trade but like there’s so many like galaxy brain things that have to happen And you’re talking picks going this way picks going that way The only thing that has to happen for this trade to work even like I don’t even think picks need to be involved here right It’s just the Celtics need to wave wave one player They have to wave one player That’s it So like I man I call Brad Stevens man I think this is a pretty good trade I just came up with this this morning Um just my first time kind of playing through the trade machine I really like it dude I really like it I think this is something that could work for everybody Um if a team had to say no which team do you think would say no It would probably be the Cavs honestly You’re getting two older players taking on more salary But I mean if the Cavs are in wood now mode and you have a 36-year-old Drew Holiday who’s still an AllNBA defender I feel like they might take the swing at it Yeah we got some comments here from um JL on X He says “Nice idea but Ben reported Garland’s value is Suggs plus picks Don’t see them moving.” Um also moving Garland for 35year-old Drew taking on bad KCP money Lastly C’s are moving to cut money if this was possible Strus would have to be redicted I’m not sure if that’s a word but um I like I like the idea here um that maybe there’s there’s some um some issues here Shout out to JL for uh for the comments in the chat Um I think you know like the Celtics are saving 2.6 million and that’s what uh eight times the money right So they’re actually saving about 16 million Um redirected Okay Thanksg maybe maybe there’s a fourth team involved I’m trying not to do like the four team and five team deals just because it gets so convoluted so quickly Um but yeah I appreciate you man Okay Um do you want to keep flowing here with the fake trades or do you want to go to the NBA finals What do you think the best uh let’s do one more trade and then we’ll talk about the the Pacers devil magic as people are calling it Um let’s talk about your trade Okay So this is my trade I mean Will had a similar trade last episode but it was a three-team deal with the Clippers the Celtics and the Kings Uh where the Celtics would still end up with Bdon Badanovich but they also ended up with um uh Valenunis from the Kings I believe And then the Clippers got Holiday and the Kings got Banks and Chris Dunn So it’s pretty similar but Celtics get bogged down Bogdanovich to Derrick Jones and they basically just ship off Drew Holiday to the Clippers Pretty simple Uh I mean not much explaining The Celtics would just have to wave one more player I kind of I really do like Bogdanovich I feel like even though he did down year last year the Celtics I mean every time he plays the Celtics for some reason he just seems to make every shot But he’s a really good shooter And if we lose Holiday replacing him with someone that’s a more efficient shooter is not something I would mind Um also Derrick Jones Jr not the best shooter but very athletic pretty solid defender Feel like it’s a pretty even trade Plus I Celtics save 3.2 million so really like 24 million or whatever that is So pretty good Yeah And you know I I amended your original idea because you also had Chris Dunn um in this trade coming to Boston Um but I I think this you know for Boston wanting to save a little bit of money I think it makes more sense to do it with two guys Um I think if the team says no in this one it’s the Clippers I think the Clippers would say no in this deal just because I I really like what Derrick Derrick Jones Jr brings defensively um especially with his size and length and when you think about who you need to go through out west although the okay under blue game one it’s SGA right SGA is that dude and we’ve seen in the past that Drew Holiday cannot for whatever reason figure out SGA’s rhythm he can’t figure out you know all the little like 66 rondowness that he has to his game Drew Holiday just can’t figure it out and Derrick Jones Jr has been one of those guys that has has been a really um impactful defender on on the perimeter I think he guards SGA pretty well Um so I think the Clippers might say no in this deal Maybe you have to throw a pick in or maybe you have that’s why Will was kind of working in a third team there But for the Celtics I really I think this would be a steal to be honest with you if you were able to get Bogdanovich um with two years after this and then Jones with two years as well on pretty team friendly money both guys that you could also redirect um if you wanted to or redict if you if you want Um you could you could also do that Um so I think this works because I think when Tatum comes back you for all these deals you also have to think about what is the team going to look like when Jason Tatum returns So the both of these guys would be on the team for Jason Tatum’s year back from the Achilles And if you’re able to throw out a lineup of Derek White Jaylen Brown Derek Jones Jr Jason Tatum and pick your center maybe it’s still Porzingis maybe it’s Cornet maybe it’s Kada maybe it’s a player we’re not even thinking about right now I think that’s a pretty solid four because if you have a you know if you have say it’s Porzingis right who’s a a stretch five you have Derek White who has become an elite shooter Jaylen Brown’s shot comes and goes but you know he he still can knock down the shot You still have to respect him And Jason Tatum Derek Jones is the one guy in that lineup that would struggle to to kind of hang but I think you can get away with one guy not being a three-point threat there And he’s also a good offensive rebounder You could actually run some um pick and roll with him as a as a lob threat I think if if he pushes that part of his game a little bit more I think he could work really well there as a vertical spacer And then Bogdanovich is is a guy that you know maybe the Celtics decide um there’s a Godfather offer for Jaylen Brown out there and we end up moving JB and you need a two guard right And Bdanovich becomes your two guard of the future Um so I like this deal Alex Good job Yeah it’s a it’s an interesting one Uh we’ll see Do you think Tatum plays next year at all Thinking about like both these guys being on two-year deals do you think we’ll see Tatum next year I mean this time table says like late February They said eight to nine months for when he entered So I’ll tell you what I had a dream that Jason Tatum played in the preseason So like maybe that means he’ll come back sooner He did post uh a picture of him at the Celtics training facility with his like left foot kind of dangling there in some JTs Um I you know Tatum is such a hard worker man there’s anybody that could come back sooner from this Achilles injury I think it’s Jason Tatum I don’t know unless unless he’s like clearly 100% there’s no restrictions there’s no mental hurdle I would just hold him out for a year just to make sure But you know come March next year if Tatum looks good feels good and the Celtics have a legit shot in a weekend East I mean throw him out there a couple games see how he feels Yeah Maybe maybe even do something crazy and bring Jason Tatum off the bench I don’t know You know what I mean Like I don’t think that would ever happen But when you’re coming back from an Achilles and you’re coming back earlier than expected I think you got to leave all doors open to get your best player and your franchise player back on the court How about you Yeah I agree I mean I’d really like to see him back next year I obviously don’t want to rush him I think it it was a real benefit that he got his Achilles in surgery like 12 hours after he tore it So like most people have to wait like six to seven days Uh so maybe that’ll speed up the process a little bit But yeah with his work ethic I think they’ll be back out there next year And even if we’re like a middle of the pack seat obviously like this year with the Pacers doesn’t really seem to matter So if they have a strong enough team and a weekend east never know A weekend east I like I like that as just like a a band name or something like that All right we are going to um take a break for the pod but for YouTube we’ll stay live here Um okay Let’s talk about the NBA Finals game one Yeah Um before the game I was texting with my buddy uh Phil Keefe and he was just asking if if he thought if I thought that the Pacers would cover um I think the the line was like 10 10 and a half something like that And I said “Yes.” And I said “I think OKC wins game one.” And he was really surprised And I just had this feeling all day that I thought the Pacers were going to steal game one Um talking to my guy Brett who’s a Pacers fan I told him I all my betting money I don’t bet anymore would have been on Pacers stealing this first game just because they’re relentless They play a style that nobody else plays And I thought the Thunder were just getting like cor you know the coronation was already happening and people were talking about this series as a sweep or five And the Thunder had a lot of time to listen to all that stuff right I don’t know how much of that they were consuming but most people were picking the Thunder and picking the Thunder to win handily And I just think people have been sleeping on the Pacers all season They’ve been a team that I respect the hell out of after you know the closest closest sweep in NBA history last year in the Eastern Conference Finals which was like kind of like the Knicks having a parade for winning a second round match up against the Celtics you know like why why are you celebrating so early and why are you celebrating something that’s not actually important Um but the Pacers are just so damn good man And when you when you have Tyrese Hallebertton who does not miss in in the last seconds of a game you have a offensive style and you have the best coach right now in the NBA I there’s no reason why I don’t think the Pacers can push this to six or seven games Yeah I think they’re an incredible basketball team I love watching them play I’ve been seeing some stuff recently about how was the Celtics sweep of the Pacers last year the best sweep in NBA history like no one seems to be able to escape at least the Pacers winning on the road and it’s incredible I think that uh Andrew Nemhard although his defensive presses is also his his jump in field goal percentage from the regular season to the postseason is it’s weird but it’s also incredible like he he just he walks around and he plays with such confidence for someone like I feel like he during the regular season is seen as a role player but then he comes out in the playoffs and he just he basically plays like he’s one of the best players on the court and it shows like he hit some move against Shay yesterday He did like a double tween and then like a double step back kind of like a James Hardenesque and then he just swished it right in front of his face and people were like where does he get this swagger I don’t know I think the Pacers are super fun I I said before the series if they kept it close like as Will said they were going to get stomped and most people did say they were going to get Will does not respect the Pacers Yeah I mean I respect the Pacers I think they’re an incredible team U but I said if they keep it close heading into the fourth quarter it’s anyone’s game because down the stretch they’re just a team that makes you execute every 48 minutes Yeah for 48 minutes and teams struggled to do that Obviously as you’ve seen during the playoffs last year they didn’t do it as well They are the ones that failed to execute They clearly watched that They clearly fix that and now they’re making teams fully execute They’re picking up full court for 48 minutes And then when it comes down to those crunch moments they’re hitting those big-time shots like N Smith corner three Turner banked in the three Neard step back three They just make the shots that count most And then Hallebert of course has the ball in his hands with a chance to win it and he always seems to make the shot We have a comment here from Ben Val host of one of the best Celtics podcasts out there first to the floor He says “Pacers are sick and are lifting me out of my Celtics death spiral.” And I agree man Like the Pacers are so much fun I’ve just found myself rooting for them Like I actually feel like a fan of the team you know it helps that I have a couple buddies down here in Austin that are huge Pacers fans Um and I’m definitely going to be watching game two um you know with them because this is just so much fun to see a team that plays a style that you don’t see in the NBA today right And also it’s just like so different from how the Celtics play which can be a very frustrating style to watch And then when you watch the Pacers play and they just have an identity that they all of these dudes are like good to above average NBA players Tyrese Hallebertton probably pushing himself into a top 10 Seakum’s probably like a top 30 at worst probably closer to top 22 player in the league And then when you talk about like Miles Turner as just like a a big man that’s able to do a little bit more than maybe people give him credit for Um N Smith as as a defender He’s he’s probably not going to be able to dribble in this series at all but I think N Smith’s um just like doggedness U Mathin looked really comfortable out there in the game last night Uh Tophin hit five threes Like the Obie Topphin three-point sniper narrative I didn’t see this coming And then Nemhart like Nemhart’s been one of my favorite players since his rookie year He was on this like super I think he was a second round pick So his his first his first contract I think was like one year for like $1.3 million It was like crazy money He wasn’t playing that much and I just really loved the way he played And I I I have a podcast I I want to see if I can find the episode I don’t know which feed it’s on where I was clamoring for the Celtics to try and get Andrew Namhard just thought that he had something special about him like the confidence that you talked about He just walks around like he’s a super handsome dude He’s got these like sick [ __ ] braids and and you know and he’s he’s got like the perfectly manicured facial hair He’s got these like really kind of like Sakario eyes When you look at him you’re like “This dude is a stone cold [ __ ] killer.” And when I think back to like my basketball playing days if that dude was like in the layup lines on the other side I’d be like that’s probably the baddest [ __ ] on the court Like I do want I don’t want that guy covering me I don’t want to cover him He’s going to just like destroy me And his ability to play up in the playoffs like he was the best player for the Pacers against the Celtics last year right Wix Hallebertton was out and looking across at Sheay who’s his fellow countryman for the Canada national team He was step for step with Sheay most of that game picking him up full court you know crossing him up with the double tween step back that you talked about and he you know Hallebertton was deferring to him because Hallebertton had Lou Dort draped all over him for the entire game So Hallebertton’s like hey Nemhart like run the show dude like I don’t I don’t want to deal with this But then Nemhart they switched up and they started putting Caruso on him right Because Caruso is their second best defender And Nemhart was like “Let’s go Let’s dance I’m going to take you I’m going to go hard to my right Rip through and one.” Um you know he’s he’s not afraid to get physical with people And then he’s a dogged defender I think what he did to Jaylen Brunson in the closeout game against the Knicks just spoke volumes to his development because Jaylen Brunson just worked him every single matchup And then in the most important game Nemhardt stepped up and showed that he’s you know him and Tyrese Hallebertton are kind of like a mini version of Tatum and Brown in in kind of the way that I see it like Hallebertton being the Tatum that can be a little too differential a little bit too like skill-based and then Brown who is Nemhart who’s just like downhill just gonna like be super physical and just be a dog Um so they actually kind of remind me of of the Celtics duo But um what did you think What did you make of this Some people in the chat would love to hear your comments too of um Dagnel’s decision to make a switch in the starting lineup take Isaiah Hartenstein out of the starting lineup and put in Kesan Wallace What were your what were your thoughts on that Uh it’s interesting Obviously they’re I mean I didn’t I actually didn’t tune in to the fir until like eight minutes into the first quarter so I didn’t see the starting lineup but I saw that Quesson Wallace had like a minus 20 or like a minus high teens plus minus So maybe that’ll change in game two Uh I mean he’s obviously a great defender but if they’re running like a smaller Pacers lineup that makes sense I didn’t I didn’t see I wasn’t able to tune into like the first four minutes so I didn’t see what the Pacers starting lineup was either But uh it’s interesting I mean the Pacers don’t really have any bigs Like Will talked about it’s the Miles Turner and Thomas Bryant and and then that Brad Thomas Bryant had two moments though last night He did He did He made a big three and then Miles Turner did too He had that three and then he banked one in It’s just those little moments with this team But I wanted to I guess I do like the comparison between Tatum and Brown to Nemhar and Hallebertton They’re kind of like a little guard version Yeah You know Yeah Little But uh also the Pacers had 19 turnovers in the first half If the Celtics had 19 turnovers in a half the game would be like a 40point game I their mental toughness and their ability to just immediately think about the next play and not dwell over previous turnovers is unbelievable I It’s It’s incredible if they had 19 turnovers and it still felt like they were in the game the entire time like they were never out of the game It did It didn’t make any sense I think the biggest stat from last night’s game going to this um uh lineup change for the Thunder is the rebounding battle So it was 56-39 in favor of the Pacers rebounding wise And when you think about just personnel-wise it’s not like the Pacers have like a bunch of big dudes that are just going to punish you on the boards right Um N Smith had 12 rebounds Seakum had 10 rebounds Hallebertton had 10 rebounds Nemhard had four Um let’s see Turner had nine Like if you talk to any Pacers fan they’re going to tell you that Miles Turner just like can’t grab a rebound for his life Nine rebounds five offensive rebounds So they had 13 offensive rebounds in the game last night So that mitigates some of those 24 turnovers that they had right If you’re able to get 13 rebounds So you get um 13 possessions back right So that’s minus 11 with the 24 turnovers um in terms of the possession game And then the three-point shooting man like 18 for 39 46% from three in last night’s game They only took 82 shots because they had 24 uh turnovers So that’s almost half your shots are three-pointers um against a Thunder team And we saw this with the Celtics right the Celtics in the game um against the Thunder the one where they got up they got up at halftime and then the Thunder like held them to like 30 points in the second half or something crazy like that Um like when when three-point shots are going down against the Thunder you can beat them because they sell out and they’re like the moment the thing that I love about the Thunder’s defense the moment somebody takes a dribble and puts their head down even for a second Lou Dort’s running over to take away you know to poke it from behind or if somebody spins back middle there’s always somebody there There’s always hands in the paint And even that last play um for Hallebertton where he hits the shot if you watch it as he’s driving to his right I think it’s Sheay and maybe Caruso are on the weak side and as he’s driving right Seakum’s in the corner No Caruso is ballside So he he looks at Seakum who could cut to the hoop right And it looks like there would be a wideopen layup there just like a little back cut but Shay and whoever else is on the weak side is already selling out So you could have a skip pass to the corner Now Hallebertton decides to take that well-contested you know deep two and he makes it But the Thunder defense is built around taking away the paint and giving up um three-point shot So the I think that’s definitely something that the Pacers are going to have to continue to do Um okay other other thoughts from from game one Anything that stood out to you Um Homegrren only played 23 minutes Hartinstein played 17 minutes We covered the bigs Anything else from the OKC side Uh well obviously Chad has to be better Can’t have six points for nine in the first Yeah you can’t can’t do that I thought Sheay although he missed a couple of you know pretty big shots down the stretch he was pretty incredible the whole game scoring the basketball Um I don’t know I think you just if you want to beat the Pacers you have to really beat them You can’t you can’t like keep it like a 10-point game You have to really put your foot on their throat and because if you keep it 10 points or even nine and there’s three minutes left they’re just going to come back They’ve done it like three times this postseason So Uh team of destiny Um I maybe if they win game two I think uh I just I I en I really enjoy watching them play I mean my friend texted me saying that that game made him so mad and I was like “How does that game make you mad A heavy underdog won the game Game one on the road on a game-winning shot How can you be mad about that?” I don’t know I think I think they’re great for basketball And I don’t think the small market thing is going to do anything with ratings because that game was incredible So I feel you man Um I think yeah I just think if you want stars right like the the celebrities let’s not call them stars If you want NBA celebrities this is not the series for you But if you just want basketball that could you know for all the people that have been like anti-NBA the NBA sucks it’s not fun watching it It’s all the same type of basketball just tune in to one game It’s like a [ __ ] hockey game watching these two teams play against each other right It’s just up and down absolute chaos the entire time Um this is just fun If you’re a basketball fan and you’re not watching these finals I don’t know that I can call you a basketball fan All right we’ll have plenty of time to talk u more I got one more thing Okay Yeah hit me with it U so do you remember the the Chiefs last year They were like you know they always won at the buzzer and people were like “Oh they’re always making up new ways to win They’re using some devil magic or whatever.” Yeah People are using that same logic with the Pacers Do you think the Pacers are using devil magic to win all these basketball games It reminds me of when I don’t Are you a UFC fan I can’t remember A little bit Yeah I some Pereira Poeton right He dresses up in his like warrior paint He’s like an indigenous uh Brazilian and he was fighting this guy Yeri Prohashka who’s this like hilarious dude from like Czechoslovakia or some [ __ ] like that And he like lives the samurai life He has like the samurai bun and everything And he was convinced when um Alex Pereira like showed up in his war paint that he was doing like devil magic and he was you know calling on his ancestors and he was like don’t like no voodoo like you can’t bring the demons in like just fight me like a man like do not do not call upon the ancestors this is blood magic like you cannot do this and that’s kind of how I feel about the pacers as well is like somebody has some sort of connection to the spiritual realm and I don’t know who it is I don’t know if it’s I don’t think it’s Hallebertton He doesn’t quite strike me as someone who would make a deal with the devil Um but to be fair he does have two different voices right Terry Hallebertton has two different voices So maybe one of those is the devil sneak you know sneaking up and you know showing everyone that a deal has been made Yeah I like it I just I think it’s awesome I think this whole series has been awesome and this whole run has really been awesome uh for Indiana and small market teams So yeah it’s great I think it’s great for the NBA overall All right we um we have two more Celtics trades that we want to get to So pretty good Alex You know two segments so far We got two Celtics trades We did a full 15 on the uh NBA Finals And after this break for the pod we will come back with our final Celtics trades All right So I have um and I’ll let you pull up one here Okay so my Celtics trade here is Celtics and Pelicans I think in this deal yeah I do have a a pick going to the Pelicans but the the idea behind this trade is that the Celtics once again send out Drew Holiday They’re saving um $4.2 million so actually um about $30 million in this deal Herb Jones and Kelly Olen are coming back to the Celtics First thoughts on this Herb Jones one of the best defenders in the league right Very similar to Derrick Jones Jr and just like what he brings out on the perimeter Can’t shoot Both lefties I think they’re very similar players Um Kelly Olen I think is a good stop gap big man that you can throw out there And you know being on very team friendly contracts I think these are also guys you could probably resign at like the 15 to6 million I think Oolin’s contract would go down Herb’s contract would probably go up Um and then the Pelicans have a reunion with Drew Holiday right Drew Holiday spent a lot of his early career um with the Pelicans They need just some more uh adults in the room with like all the [ __ ] that’s going on there the Zion stuff that’s happening Um I think this is a deal You know the Celtics have to send out a pick here Herb Jones is is the the prize right in this I think there’s an argument that the Celtics might have to throw in another pick to make this deal go especially with the money Um maybe you got to get a third team involved to get the Pelicans another pick right Or maybe the Pelicans have to be able to get off somebody like CJ McCollum or get rid of the Dejante Murray money But in terms of the bare bones of this deal what are your thoughts here Alex I like it I mean we have a little homecoming with Kelly Oolen Um and Herb Jones is always someone that I’ve liked He’s a great defender Not a not the best shooter but I mean his defense speaks volumes for him as a player Uh yeah I feel like you could probably sign Kelly Oolen after this 12.8 million for about half I mean he’s been moved around quite a bit since he signed his original deal And uh a homecoming for the Pelicans with Drew would be nice Uh yeah I don’t know Philip said “Would the Pells let Herb go?” And I don’t know if they would let him go They’re not really in a win now mode So yeah the Pels are the team that say no right to this deal It’s not like without a question The Celtics win this deal As a Celtics fan I’m trying to find deals that the Celtics will win right Um but I think you know I think that with the with the Pels if I’m trying to figure out a way like Herb is is a great player He’s got great values on a very team friendly contract Most teams would like him but he can’t shoot right He just can’t shoot So like his value is going to top out some at some point Um that’s why I think it’s like how many how many picks do you got to get in here What’s the third team that needs to get involved But I’m just trying to find guys that I think would work for the Celtics Um for those of you that are just tuning in this is not my uh my grade A material trade fodder here This is this is why we’re kind of saving this for the end I don’t think that this is a likely deal to be honest with you Um I think the Pelicans say no pretty quickly to this But if there’s a way that the Celtics can figure out Herb Jones on the Celtics I just want one more kind of modern wing defender I don’t think the Celtics have the modern wing defender that’s a role player I think Jaylen Brown is that guy I think Jason Tatum is that guy Derek White as we saw with Male Bridges Derek White couldn’t guard Male Bridges in in the playoffs right That was a problem for the team Um they brought in Tory Craig they you know maybe Jordan Walsh is that guy in the future I don’t see it happening Um but they need somebody like Derrick Jones Jr Herb Jones somebody like a Jaden McDaniels type right That that type of player we don’t have Um so how can we figure out a way to get that Um we got some comments here from our guy Rob version one I don’t think we send out a pick as Kelly was meh last year and expiring Herb and Drew’s values about equal Herb also is coming off a major injury That’s true He had a what torn labor him in his shoulder Um personally I’d flip Herb to a third team and cut Nola would want KP over Drew There was actually a rumor report that Nola is interested in stretch bigs like KP Nazar Reed and Miles Yeah I don’t think Miles is going anywhere after all the stuff that’s that’s happening here Appreciate you though uh Rob for the comment Um ABC says “I want Herb Jones too.” Um yeah So I mean it would be interesting I think the the biggest thing is just Drew’s money right Like Herb’s money versus Drew’s money Like talent-wise Drew is a better player Um Herb’s obviously younger It’s just the that you know three three years 100 million for Drew Holiday at 35 years old that could become bad money quick I don’t think next year it’s going to be bad money to be honest with you I think you’re still gonna get a really good at least one year out of Drew Holiday So I think you know that’s something teams could talk themselves into ABC is a Laker fan He wants Herb Jones too Okay Get the [ __ ] out of here ABC I’m kidding man Thank Appreciate you Appreciate you tuning in Um all right Uh we got one more trade here Alex do you want to pull it up for us Gotcha All right This one’s pretty simple Demar de Rozan to Boston Dear is a guy that I’ve always kind of liked Um Kings acquire Chrisaps Borzingis We’re saving um you know $6 million in this deal Um we’re getting smaller arguably getting worse But you know if you’re trying to stay afloat in the Eastern Conference you need a Jason Tatum replacement And I think Demar De Rozan although he can’t do a lot of what Jason Tatum can do on the defensive end of the court I think he can replicate 85% of what Tatum can do on the offensive side of the court right Just his ability to run pick and roll Um his ability to be you know in the playoffs I think he’d be a really interesting guy to have out in the court with Tatum and Brown when when Tatum eventually returns just because he can get to his spot whenever he wants We’ve seen in these playoffs how important the mid-range game is um in isolation basketball and we saw against the Knicks Tatum and Brown can’t do everything right Derek White was great as a as a shooter but Drew Holidayiday Chris Saps Sporzingis Al Horford they can’t create anymore right They can’t create for themselves Demar D Rozan’s always going to be able to get his shot off whenever he wants Um who do you think says no here in this very simple one for one deal I don’t know honestly I mean who do the Kings have They have Lavine D Rozan Malik Monk Yonas Valenunis which I learned yesterday It’s a bonus It’s a bonus Uh Keon Ellis uh Keegan Murray um they got the Carter kid Lyles right So you’d be looking at a lineup of um Malik Sabonis and Porzingis in the starting lineup Yeah Or you bring one off the bench You bring Porzingis off the bench But Sabonis is not a center that you can you know anchor your team with Um so like maybe there’s a third team Sabonis gets moved elsewhere if like you want to just do a swap there But I think the Kings probably say no in this deal I don’t think Porzingis really really works for them Um I think I mean Rob’s right No one really could say no If you want to pick a team it’s probably the Kings but I mean it’s pretty fair all around Would you do it if it were Drew for Demar Uh no Probably not Okay You like from as a from a Celtics perspective Yeah probably not I mean Demar can’t really he’s not the best defender So he you could argue you could definitely make the argument Demar De Rozan is not the best defender I think that is undebatable there If someone’s out here in in the comments I I’m not reading the comments right now but if anyone could make an argument that Demar De Rozan is an average NBA defender I would love to uh to see that argument I would love to just like bring you on the pod just to hear the way that you talk think about basketball because that’s a wild take that Demar Rosen is a serviceable NBA defender at this point Um he’s great I mean he’s he’s a great offensive player Demard Rosing can [ __ ] score the ball and you put him in high pick and roll he’s going to create good offense for you but um he is bad at defense Okay Um any any other comments we got that are worth talking about Rob says Demar sucks as a defender Lol Yeah Yeah Rob I I always appreciate your perspective All right man Alex this was fun dude I feel like we’re developing our own little you know chemistry here with me as the host you as you as the uh the second voice on the pod Um for those of you that didn’t tune in to the beginning of the show I’ll just give you a quick recap of my favorite trade that I came up with here Um so this is the trade that I came up with Picks the more I think about it probably got to go to the Cavs for giving up Garland He’s the best asset in this deal We talked about this at length at the beginning Um but I just want to recap because I just want to pat myself on the back to be honest with you Um Celtics acquire Max Struce and your center of the future Wendel Carter Jr Cavs acquire Holiday and KCP Magic acquire Darius Garland Um I’m just going to leave everyone with some thoughts on that You know let that marinate Would you do it if you were the Celtics Would you do it if you were the Cavs Would you do it if you were the Magic Where do the picks need to go Um call Brad Stevens if you like it if you got connections there And um Alex you got any anything else you want to talk about Uh you know no Uh how’s life dude It’s good How’s life How’s life post college It’s good I got playing some golf at 1:20 and then I’m going to the Nats game at 6:45 today So pretty busy How are the Nats How are the Nats doing this year They are floating at 500 So better than the Red Sox Oh the Red Sox are there’s something else I don’t know what they’re doing At least there’s talk of them just like going full youth movement which is cool Um so you’re you’re golfing Um I know you So you’re back home with your parents now right Correct Okay Um how far away from Virginia Tech is that Four hours Four hours Okay And your girlfriend what was her name again Lily I’m actually at her house right now Oh you’re at Lily’s house right now Okay Yeah So is does she live near your parents Yeah Like 20 minutes away We went to the same high school So Oh have you been dating since high school No Almost at a year and like 18 days Did you think when you guys were in high school that there was a vibe and that maybe there was a world in which you would date No This was like a college thing Yeah Okay Did you guys know each other Yeah we did Uh uh but yeah it wasn’t really anything like that until more college or like more like last year Although we go to different schools we found ways to talk to each other So that’s cool man Um that’s funny My brother and his wife were kind of similar They um they knew each other in high school but they ran in different circles and they ended up I think like um so my brother’s wife’s name is Jill She they had like a mutual friend and then because they had a mutual friend they ended up like hanging out as a group and then they started dating 10 years later they’re still married with three kids now Um so it’s it’s weird how that happens right Like if if there’s any young people out there that are listening that are like still in high school and you know thinking about like is this person from high school still going to matter in the future You never know You never know There could be somebody that that that pops up Um anything else What’s it like being back home with with mom and dad It’s good Food expenses have gone way down Yeah Uh but it’s good You know I got that job at the CSI packaging place so I’m staying pretty busy throughout the day Um going back on my full full health kick I’m trying to cut weight Going like full gym six times a week really trying to you know I I originally when I first started I was like 218 pounds I got all the way down to like 177 or whatever Now 218 Yeah How tall are you Uh 510 Almost 5’11 But it was like it wasn’t like any muscle like 218 It was like it was like a big 218 So then I went pretty hard after freshman year Cut all the way down like late sophomore year I was like 177 Now I’m probably back near about 195 with more muscle but you know now I want to get back down you know to like So what’s the uh what’s the exercise routine Chest back legs arms and shoulders legs chest back arms and shoulders So today’s chest and back Uh trying to get my max bench up It’s at 275 but Whoa big dog 275 Watch out everybody in the chat Do not hop on the bench with Alex That was my max I 275 was the max I ever I ever benched back in college But I don’t dude when do all the heavy lifting right now because when you get older it’s just like yoga [ __ ] Pilates workout classes Like I’m I’m doing this thing called Orange Theory right now Have you ever heard of it Yeah Yeah My mom used to do that Okay Yeah Right Right Your mom used to do that like that Like that’s like I show up at these classes and it’s a bunch of people that like I think look older than me They’re probably the same age Um and you know I’m getting it’s funny I’m I’m on the treadmill So the setup of Orange Theory I highly recommend it for anyone that just like needs to somewhat get back in shape But I get on a treadmill and they’re like “Okay well if you’re a power walker you’re doing this If you’re a jogger you’re doing this.” And I’m like “I’m a [ __ ] power walker at this point man think I don’t think I don’t think I’m a jogger Um but the uh the trainer came up She’s like this young girl just graduated college and she’s like “Oh like you know this your first time back in the gym for a while?” I was like “Yeah.” She’s like “Oh well we’ll we’ll get you sprinting again.” I was like “Hey like I don’t need to sprint Don’t tell don’t tell me that I’m I’m you know not reaching my goals here.” Um but I the last couple times I’ve been running Um I got up to 11 miles an hour on the treadmill so I was pretty happy about that Yeah You know my mom used to do Orange Theory I think Lily did too She used to do Orange Theory It’s a nice interactive thing My dad still actually he’s actually been going like pretty hard in the gym He’s been doing like double workouts Uh let’s go He he attempt he he attempted to uh to catch me at bench but I think he’s given up that Uh did I did I hear a little dog running around Yeah What kind of dog you guys Uh it’s her her family dog His name is Rex He’s like a huge pitbull Nothing compared to my dog which is like a a 12 pound Shih Tzu right now Can I see Rex Can the Can the people see Rex Yeah Lily can you bring Rex I don’t know Maybe they went outside or something I don’t know Okay I don’t know But I love a pitull Love a pit I got a 13-year-old pit at at home here Um all right man Well this was fun dude This was fun catching up Um everybody that is in the chat thanks for hanging out Uh thanks for hanging out for the banter after the the basketball content If you got any fake
