How Kel’el Ware can improve defensively in 2025 for the Miami Heat
all right So here’s one of the ways I think where can develop the most right So one of the things that Jared Allen does really well on this P&R even though this P&R is pretty low in the lane he plays Cade right He plays Cade but he also plays his drop coverage because he’s a drop defender So just pay attention to Jared Allen I don’t know if you caught it so I’m going to wind it back So first things first he’s got to stop the drive So look at his body position He’s he’s going to be able to play the driver give some help but what you want to pay attention to is Doran who’s going to go for the role Jared Allen never lets him get past his level So as you can see as this action is coming at him and Kate is snaking that P&R Allen is playing the drive but he never lets Duran get past his level Wear does a really poor job typically and I’m going to do another clip to show you where he doesn’t guard the ball and he ends up not guarding the rollman either And this is why film study is important kids because I’m sure Cleveland picked up on this As you can see this is much higher on the floor but the principles are the same When this pick comes wear has to be able to stop the guy from getting a straight line drive but he also has to be aware of Jared Allen to never beat him past his level right Look at where his body position It’s like 45 degrees this way which I I get it kind of but he doesn’t really hedge at all So I’m not really sure what he’s accomplishing there And look how straight up and down he is He’s straight up and down It’s very hard to move laterally when you’re straight up and down So as this play rolls pay attention to Jared Allen unlike before when Jared Allen was the defender Look at Wear’s feet Wear’s feet are like this So it’s very easy for Jared Allen to get past his level He’s not really helping on this and he’s not taking away this to the basket either He’s not doing he’s not taking away anything And Jared Allen beats him past his level He’s got to step on him all the way to the basket Easy finish And this happens over and over and over again Not just throughout the series but through the entire Miami Heat season
