Potential Sacramento Kings Trade Target: De’Andre Hunter
hour one is in the books hour two of four is coming up and we’re going to kick it off as we typically do with our trade target our trade candidate of the day and basketball reference by the way back to that Tyrese conversation tyrese was all NBA third team so you can add that to his stats and to his accolades this season they just haven’t updated yet cuz the season isn’t over yet i believe that means now since the trade Tyrese Hallebertton and Damont Sabonis have both made two AllNBA third teams there you go in the what is that three full seasons since then it’s fascinating they’re b they’ve basically been valuewise pretty close right but the pitchforks will get out if you say it like that we understand why you know there’s winning and there’s the Kings so it’s just a a tough situation and maybe this guy can help a wing that was traded during the season to the top seed in the Eastern Conference somebody that Allen has been clamoring for almost as much as Obie Toppin today give me DeAndre James Hunter 68 out of Virginia first round actually out of Philly even better just went to college at Virginia first round fourth pick overall 2019 was originally in the Anthony Davis trade people don’t realize that on the Cavaliers some of these y’all need some more y’all need some more coffee 916 is Da’Von Mitchell don’t get blocked i didn’t see uh Jerry Reynolds said uh DaVon Mitchell would be the perfect player for the Kings right now 91 another 916 with Brandon Ingram who just got signed coffee coffee or tea however you get down i got to wake up here it’s 11 it’s lunchtime for me this is my typical lunchtime i love a good early lunch it’s DeAndre Hunter today it looks like our our streak might be over for Mr allen yeah actually funny enough so UPS Chris who’s one of our Pzeros been listening to the show for a very long time ups Chris had a streak going and it was between UPS and the A’s the A’s losing and UPS Chris correctly guessing the trade candidate of the day as the A’s finally win a series which seems like they haven’t done that since 2025 started ups Chris your streak is over good sir it is not Obie Top It y’all no you suck no don’t leave UPS Chris alone well he deserves the Great job UPS Chris ladies and gentlemen he deserves the morning show streak is over sound you got all the way yeah you got what to seven eight in a row but y’all know if it was Obby Toppin I’d be much more I’d be much more hyped now I do love me some DeAndre Hunter but Obby Topin he’s going to get his own hour okay Obie Toppin gets his own hour that that’s that’s number one we got to get you that jersey is coming that’s right that’s right texter said they’re sending me an OB to jersey so DeAndre Hunter played 64 games this season 17 points per game goodness gracious four rebounds per game 1.4 assists per game 47% from the field 40 4% from three 84.6% from the free throw line for his career he is at 14.8 points per game so from se 17 and 24-25 much better than his 14.8 uh rebounds barely down just 0.1 assists same idea 1.4 to 1.5 up two percentage points as far as his field goal percentage is concerned and up three more over three percentage points 37.3 for his career from three 40.5% from three uh this season and up 3% when it comes to his uh free throw percentage at 84% you look at what he has done throughout his career what did he do with the Cleveland Cavaliers after the trade so with the with the Hawks he’s not has not been a starter even I don’t know what the Hawks are doing by the way and 916 is saying you said they were traded during the regular season yeah DeAndre Hunter was traded during the regular season yeah it was traded from the the Cavs to or the Hawks to the Cavs yeah he was traded during the regular season caris Levert and a couple second round picks atlanta he only started four games okay he played in 37 he was at 19 points per game all right and 19 off the bench is crazy by the way he a he played 28.8 minutes per game the Atlanta Hawks are just not a real team to me 3.9 rebounds per game after the trade he moves to uh Cleveland at 27 games played five games started 14.3 uh points per game the three-point percentage which goes up to 42.6% from three he was at 39 kyle he took 6.7 threes a game while he was in Atlanta he took 5.2 so pretty good volume 5.2 while he was in Cleveland and just real quick as far as age is concerned he turns 28 in December so he’s 27 now he will turn 28 in December i mean look I don’t even need to I don’t even need to see the deals let’s just do it now let’s just do it now let’s get Let’s get to the contract conversation two years left on his deal he will be paid 23.3 million next season or this upcoming season depending on if your season’s done or not so 23.3 and 26 27 he’ll get paid 24.9 so essentially 25 mil and then after that when he turns 30 27 28 he will be a free agent well do the deal man and he’s starting it’s his chance to start i don’t care just do it Kyle 68 27 years old 40% from three big body bends do the I The Kings haven’t had anybody that resembles this man i don’t know how I feel about the fact that he couldn’t even start on the Hawks but that’s what I’m No no no no don’t do that don’t do that it’s the Hawks it’s the Hawks i would say they don’t know what they’re doing i would say it doesn’t make me feel great that Jaylen Johnson showed up and was just immediately better than him i don’t But do we know was he actually better first of all he dealt with injury sure he only he played 60 some odd games and I don’t know how much of this is Jaylen Johnson is our guy versus Jaylen Johnson is actually better he got traded for a reason Kyle he got traded because they wanted they wanted to move off him he’s 27 years old the timeline’s in didn’t match no I get that and and he started on I’m gonna defend my guy now he started on the the the teams that were Trey Young and and our guy Kevin Herder kevin Herder he started on that version of the team so I’m not saying he’s not a starter in the NBA they he was a starter on the Kings right now give me that he would be i don’t know if that’s a a great I don’t like the disrespect i Okay who’s better who’s better and these are my two guys here and you you actually should try to make me pick DeAndre Hunter or Rury cuz Rory starts now on a three seed deandre Hunter is better to me i would say DeAndre Hunter but if I made it PJ Washington I would say it’s probably a push well why are we talking about PJ well I’m just picking names you know three they’re all threes ruy started on the three seed in the West yeah but you know what you know that what three seed in the West why are you air quoting it it is what it was they got smoked out of the playoffs and were clearly not as good because they had Ruiz starting no no no they look they had Reeves Luca and LeBron and nobody else that could play all I’m saying is that just because he didn’t start doesn’t mean that that he ain’t you know uh worth this conversation or that him starting on the Kings would be a bad look well and I would also make the point he may not have started he was closing many times for the Cavs it was him and Struce right depending on situation they they were playing DeAndre Hunter down the stretch of games so I’m not like trying to say he’s not he’s a super sub and the Kings would be okay starting him because they also have another super sub in Malik Monk which depending on the deal that we’re talking about there’s a chance that they could have him and Malik both coming off the bench so it’s not even to say he has to be a starter on this Kings team they absolutely could have both DeAndre Hunter and Malik coming i would love to know who you have starting real quick Kyle I just wanted to uh give the minutes average he averaged 27 minutes per game uh last season 28.8 with the Hawks 25 even with the Cavs so he was playing 25 plus minutes per game i also want to make this case to people of well why would they trade him they just got him and he was pretty much their sixth man during the playoff run so the Cavs right now going into next year are over the second apron which for those who don’t know that restricts your ability to make trades sign minimum contract guys or buy out players um it it limits the draft picks you can trade you know the new CBA makes it so if you’re over the second apron you’re kind of the Suns which is there’s not much you can really do once you have that team so if they want to bring back Ty Jerome they have to trade one of their core seven guys in order to make it happen they just they they are not allowed to sign Tai Jerome to any contract unless they get below the Second Apron which they’re only like $4 million above that second apron right now so they can kind of mix and match stuff to make it work now obviously they’re not going to trade Donovan Mitchell they’re not going to trade Evan Mobley so that means they would have to trade one of or multiple of Jared Allen Darius Garland Max DeAndre Hunter or Isaac Aoro to try and get below the second apron unless they’re comfortable with that being their seven for next year which I wouldn’t feel great if I were going into it next season with that group of seven given that group of seven with Ty Jerome last year got got put out of the playoffs in the second round 60 seconds we break down who is on their way to Cleveland in order to get our guy DeAndre Hunter don’t move alan St on Sack Town Sports Sports 11:40 or listen on the Sack Town Sports app what’s it going to cost to get DeAndre Hunter i don’t care i do not care kyle would have to have cooked up the worst trades possible in order for me to say i really don’t get my guy we do not care and I’ve decided and we we can and we can look up Rury did we do Rury already yeah we did Rury he was one of the first ones that’s right well we can revisit Rory but I think And somebody says Ru is a friend of Damont Sabonis on the 916 yeah but I just like I just think DeAndre Hunter’s better i think DeAndre Hunter’s a smidge older maybe than Ruie yeah I think so cuz Ruy was in college in 26 no no no ruy’s 20 they’re both 27 oh okay so there you go this is a perfect This is They’re both 6’8 they’re both They’re both 27 that’s a perfect comparison also the friend of thing is a little strange yeah because let’s not do that again the Malik Monk Dear and Fox situation well also Malik Mung and Dearan Fox actually played together at Gonzaga like Sabonis left as Ruie was arriving it’s they never actually crossed paths at Gonzaga just cuz they went to the same school they never actually were there at the same time i’m just looking at this side by side and then Kyle’s going to get to the trade candidates ruy 59 games this last season deandre Hunter 64 rury 13 points per game deandre Hunter 17 points per game ruy one more assist at five to DeAndre Hunter’s 1.4 ruy was at 50.9% from the field deandre at 47 ruy at 41.3 from the uh three-point line when you have DeAndre at 40 they’re they’re similar i think DeAndre just has slightly better stats deandre 84% from the free throw line rury at 77 as far as minutes played Ruy did play a little bit more he played 31.7 minutes per game he took only 4.2 threes per game so slightly higher uh slightly higher percentage but he took less threes than DeAndre Hunter but I’ll take both of them right now though I I just like DeAndre Hunter i think there’s more more left more to him and I’m doing a a shovel digging uh a shovel digging movement here for everyone listening in the car shout out 11:40 a.m i I just think that there’s more to him maybe than than Ruie and he’s shown us more so far all right Kyle who I got to give up because bye all right well goodbye it’s funny that you mentioned the Ruie trade because if I if we take you all the way back to uh four weeks ago when we did the Rui Hachimura trade candidate of the day the deal was D Rozan Fui and Moxy Cleba which you know was just to make the money work situation and get off that expiring deal the first deal is basically the same contract or same deal so it it is the Kings getting DeAndre Hunter and Isaac Aoro from the Cavs in exchange for Demar D Rozan pick 42 and Charlotte second everybody wins which I just made the note the Cavs would save $10 million against the cap in this deal which gets them below the second apron and they would be able to sign Tai Jerome to a uh a new contract everybody wins and you know I say don’t sleep on Isaac Aoro i know you’re slumbering but I’m not sleeping on Isaac Aoro he’s fine uh he’s a fine player didn’t Didn’t play in the playoffs but he’s fine they lost well maybe maybe they should have played him more right that’s what I’m saying so we’ve talked before with Demard Rozan deals about how nobody’s really paying Demard Rozan $25 million to be a sixth man right right the Cavs are one of I would say maybe two teams but maybe the only team in the league where I would say they actually it makes sense to pay Demar D Rozan $25 million to be a sixth man cuz in this scenario he would be the super sub with Ty Jerome and you know they move off of Aoro that opens a spot for Dean Wade right to be the eighth guy off the bench and and they’ll you know use pick 42 or bring in Sam Merrill or someone else you know just just get that that depth of G-League guys that seem to always work out for them they might be the only team in the league where it actually makes sense to have Demard Rozan be a sixth man because of what he brings offensively that Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland do not let’s do it i mean it both sides who says no is very it’s very life could be so simple it’s my guy to Sacramento it’s only if the Cavs decide we would rather have Demar D Rozan and Ty Jerome than DeAndre Hunter and you know whoever they flipped for Isaac and I think they really look Look you can’t lose Ty Jerome after what he just did you cannot you cannot lose him all right so you better hold on to him and you can afford to lose a guy like DeAndre Hunter so in this scenario if we assume the Kings bring in a a point guard call it Tus Jones your lineup would be Taius Jones Keon Ellis Zack Lavine Keegan Murray Damontus Sabonis and coming off your bench Malik Monk DeAndre Hunter Yonas Valenunis Jake Loravia potentially still and Devin Carter a deep Oh and Isaac Kakoro who probably won’t play on this team but a deep 11man bench for the Sacramento Kings if they were to uh get the two for one package here sacramento Kings welcome to the six seed ah welcome to the six you finally did it after all that you finally did it you’re finally back in the dance prepared to lose in the first round probably the seven seed but we’ll take it you know Taius Jones probably wouldn’t close but you’d have a closing lineup of Lavine Monk Keegan Sabonis and then either Keon or DeAndre Hunter based on size and matchups i think I think we could do a little something with that if you’re the Kings I’m saying Brandon Nunez is on the sack chat shout out Brandon he’ll be in on Thursday for the Kings round table you can’t afford to lose Ty Jerome but can with Hunter is a little wild my guy hey man i’m just I’m I’m pumping the calves up look at what Ty Jerome did for you you can’t afford to lose that but you’re not you’re not losing Ty sorry you’re not losing DeAndre Hunter Brendan you’re you’re upgrading De Roen oh I’m sorry Brendan all you’re doing is getting a a Hall of Fame talent in return uh Demar De Rozan to be your sixth man to be your six man drop him 30 whenever you need it oh uh Donovan Mitchell is off darius Garland with the toe we don’t know what’s going on with his toe but we know that Deamar De Rozan will show up we know that it’s easy you know you lo you lost in the second round okay you you could not find offense when you needed it so now other teams got to deal with Ty Jerome and Demar Rosen that’s the Cavs dream i mean DeAndre Hunter couldn’t even start on the Hawks and I bet Brandon’s going to be like he’s probably better than Demar Roen no Demard Rozan’s still very good basketball player just you know strange different style of offense you know so let’s let’s really let’s really get down to the nitty-gritty the Sacramento Kings so who did you have starting how is how is DeAndre Hunter on the bench again well because they would still need a point guard so it would be your point guard Keon Zack Lavine with the closing lineup would probably have Monk coming in for whoever your point guard is Taius Jones and then based on matchups Hunter or Keon Ellis it’s it’s a it’s a Taius Jones starting point guard that might be around 20 minutes 20 Yes 20 25 minutes again it’s more about who closes than who starts are y’all ready for the XSL t-shirts let me ask you that because they’re coming the XXL playoff t-shirts that you watch uh uh you wash it 20 times and those are the only t-shirts that don’t shrink by the way I disagree the the the gray ones they used to have for the beam team run those shrunk so fast they do not shrink you ready to turn it into a cuto off for summer season are you ready to to wear your 2026 NBA playoffs because DeAndre Hunter’s on team Kyle who’s the next who’s the next trade let’s do it i think you’ve already decided you want that one but the second one is um DeAndre Hunter for Malik Monk and a a lottery protected first what deandre Hunter for Malik Monk excuse me and a first kyle you’re you’re in on this ah now you’re testing me a bit is DeAndre Hunter for Malik Monk and the the lottery protected first situation which by the way would put the Cavs I did the math this would put them $100,000 below the second apron so they would be at literally as low as you can get which I don’t think the Cavs would do this this is the second one is only a we just have to get below the second apron and we’ll take a a super sub for a super sub that costs $4 million less or $5 million less isn’t Tai and Malik kind of redundant i’m not even saying they would keep Tai i’m just saying this would get them below the second apron i don’t know about that one in the first to keep Tai Jerome they’re probably going to have to move Isaac Aoro if that if I can make it as simple as possible they probably have to move Isaac Aoro somehow some way in order to keep Tai Jerome i’m doing it but I I’m not I can’t look myself in the mirror i’m doing it because that’s how much I believe the Kings need somebody with DeAndre Hunter skill set but I it’s going to be hard for me to sleep at night you’re more so in on the we’ll take on $10 million of Isaac to get That’s right deard Rozan cuz I think you’re sleeping on him i think I think I I I’ve told you this before i think you’re sleeping on him deandre Hunter welcome to Sacramento and And by the way real quick Isaac Coro’s 24 and he’s 6’8 do that first deal do the deal he’s 24 and he’s 68 i think he’s got 2 years and like 26 million left on his deal which is He would essentially be more expensive but younger Trey Lyles if that makes it easier for people he would be younger more expensive trey Ly 37% from three where do I sign on that first deal when we return back to the Sam AI article but this time from the Pacers perspective what was the thought process behind moving the Mont Sabonis for Tyrese Hallebertton and Alan Sack on sports
