live bleacher Report simalcast tp the franchise in the building special guest he’s my guy representing the New York Post podcast in particular New York game our friend Dexter Henry is in the building on today’s show what is going on with the Knicks pursuit of Jason Kid do they want him do they not want him is Dallas going to answer we got to talk about it man call us up in the KFTV Discord we want to hear from you guys with with your thoughts on Kid Nick’s off season whatever you want it to be it is your show salute to our franchise channel members salute to the replay gang and remember that these shows are available in audio podcast format let’s get into it all right Dex how you feeling man feeling good man just uh I don’t I don’t want to say anxious but just kind of like man we need this coaching thing to like get done so we can know some other things i’m sure you feel this way in terms of content it’s just kind of waiting for this this shoe to drop and and seeing but I you know I I’m very intrigued though CP like how deliberate they’re going to be with this um you know I think there were some reports I don’t know if it was Begley or Bondi my colleague who said you know might not happen till July um they may go through the draft uh you know before that and start a free agency so that’s interesting to me uh but we’ll see well that would be interesting like if they don’t get this done by the draft like who are you going to draft you just going to draft a guy and not have the coach who you want to work with and and you know is is a prospect going to be happy about that to be coming into a situation that is kind of in flux so that’s a little bit interesting um but on the kid front the the reports are right now that uh that the Knicks intend to ask permission and then that Dallas intends to decline but there’s no concrete on either side so what do you what do you make of that man all right so I always tell people you got to watch how things are reported when they’re reported and who is coming from right not saying that any of the stuff isn’t true not my point but I think that the Knicks would want to make it known that they have interest in Jason Kid right CP and I also think that the Mavericks are going to want to play a little bit of hard ball because as the fans know watching this they’re going to need a little bit of compensation now what I do find interesting is and I’m curious what you think about this EP if you’re the Knicks and your cupboard’s already bare after the Muel Bridges trade right do you want to then give compensation to get a coach when there’s still talk out there about you possibly making other moves here to still improve this roster and you have very limited assets to do so so do you want to give this up on a on a coach uh I’m not so sure about that now maybe it’ll be a couple second round picks the Knicks have eight of them um maybe it’ll be the Washington first round pick but that seems like something you’d want to hold on to so I don’t know i I I think there is probably interest from the Knicks uh obviously gonna get the people that link this to Giannis uh but I think maybe the more direct link you should be looking at is that J uh Jaylen Brunson played under Jason Kid um and you know maybe Jaylen Brunson said “Okay if you don’t give tips this is a guy I would want.” I don’t know any of that for sure kid as a coach I am I’m lukewarm on it like I wouldn’t be mad if they did it i’m not also I don’t think I’d be jumping for joy the other way like oh this is like a no-brainer i think Kit is a fine coach the thing I do think is I think he could handle New York that’s the one thing I think if you’re looking for a guy that’s a little more innovative uh we saw what he did did helping the Mavericks defense two years ago could he be could he could he help this team defensively like look now I don’t they know if he’s going to make Karanty Towns his feet quicker or have him stop making dumb plays on defense i don’t know about that but I I do think he can handle New York this is when I say that I mean if the team is on a three-game losing streak with the expectations they will have next year in December how is he kind of coach that can handle that yeah I think he can yeah as opposed to maybe a first year voice but I don’t know if any I don’t know listen this is what makes it so interesting who moves the needle here i don’t know but how do you how do you feel about Jason Kid because I’m sure you respect him as a player and his mind and everything but how do you feel about him as a coach yeah I mean I think having seen him here as a player watched him as a player in this market having those coaching tendencies taking his team to the NBA finals there’s a lot to like in terms of relatability with the players because he has that respect and I think that is the path that the Knicks are trying to go down here the anti-tips this is why Mike Malone is not under considerations for multiple reasons so I I do understand the path and I like the path i just want to know if it is him is are we ch like how much are we going to change the offense because Dallas was a heavy isolation team now was that because of Luca being there or you know what I mean or does Kade trying to devise something that maximizes ball movement player movement because I think that is the ultimate direction that I want to see this Knicks offense go in i love Jaylen and and you know Derek Harper was just on the show and he made a great point like where would the Knicks be this year without Jaylen having the ball in his hands and being a high usage guard you know so it’s a it’s a it’s a two-headed it’s a two-headed coin in that regard but look I I um I’m all for the change i was indifferent in terms of the firing of Tibs like I wasn’t tight about it and you know I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m I’m thrilled about it but I am excited and enthused about the direction that that Leon is going to take this team in because I trust them so if they do believe in Kid then let’s go with Kid and and see where it goes man that the relationship with Jaylen is a is a plus so I’m with So you and I feel very similar to this because I think the relationship stuff matters i think that sometimes through team building when you we talk I’ve been talking with a lot of fans in the last as you have too in the last week or so um that stuff matters a lot in team building like how guys are not just getting along together in the locker room or how they’re with the coach do they feel like their voices are being heard i think this matters in any job i want to be very clear and I always say this about sports like sports is a job still a place of employment these are guys coming to work so that the people stuff matters to the other point you mentioned that I think is a really good one i think you and I feel the same way i don’t know what the Knicks need to technically need to maximize for next year it’s two ways of looking at do you think they need to get better defensively which I think they can a little bit i think there’s only so much they can get better defensively if they keep the same roster but if they do come back with mostly the same roster I think you need a coach that’s going to maximize the offense as much as possible so it cannot be laborious to score points that’s the one thing the Pacers had an advantage over the Knicks they could get points easily the Knicks play a lot of ISO ball i think I’m right i’m with UCP i think they got to move away from that it’s not sustainable to have heavy Jaylen Brunson iso ball for four rounds to try to win a title i think the Knicks know that i think the Knicks coach knows that that has to happen so I think that’s the thing for me if he’s going to do heavy iso ball like we saw with Luca that might not be a recipe for success for the Knicks i’m with you on that i think the next coach has to be aware of both those things the relationships yeah and improving the offense trying to get it to another level definitely need to improve the offense i think the defense will be improved when they upgrade their personnel both will improve also when they upgrade the personnel um because you know a lot of people want to sit here and in hindsight like man we on a bench the whole time and two things can be true yeah you had you had capable guys on the bench to do a certain job and it still wasn’t good enough so they need to add to their bench personnel and also you know have a coach that that they believe can maximize the talent on this team because it’s definitely there they were two games away from the finals no guarantees for next year but given the fact that you can you can guarantee them pretty much being a top three team next year again you want to see them get past Indiana and get past Cleveland to uh to to to get to to that spot which is the NBA Finals but I do believe that given the you know the the the the thing that where it’s like you know they’re interested and Dallas is expected to decline but you haven’t heard anything yet tells me it’s still hot to me it’s still hot and it’s either a leverage play on the Mav side to get the the draft compensation which I am nervous about i talked to MRI about that on Friday i am leerary about that depending on what it is because we we need it to for for players we need to either draft somebody and need it to trade for somebody so trading for a coach is tough or is it a is it a money play on the kids side but the fact that you haven’t had concrete a concrete request and a concrete um denial I think it’s still in play it it’s still hot man i think it’s still hot too i think it’s also interesting that Kid’s name is kind of surfaced more first and we haven’t heard a short list yet right we haven’t heard a true official short list that hasn’t been leaked we haven’t really even heard the thing that I think the Knicks have an idea of what kind of coach they want like I do believe that and I’ve been hearing that from people but I think also you didn’t hear the oh well we’re going to do an extensive search right you haven’t heard that either which is you know you go through a process and I think that generally happens more when you get bounced earlier in the playoffs but yeah I do think the kid there’s still legs to the kid stuff i think it’s really going to come down to does kid really want to come um how does he feel about everything that’s went on in Dallas recently and will Nico Harrison and company be willing to just either a let him go for nothing which I doubt um and what’s the cost of that now if we’re talking a couple second round picks you know I think the Knicks would do it if it’s a first round if you if it’s dealing one of your pick swaps which I don’t think you can do or the 2020 the 2026 Washington first rounder which is likely to convey the two seconds that’s kind of your last remaining good asset i I don’t know if you can do that even for Jason Kidd and that’s where I might lean to going with someone like a Johnny Bryant uh in terms of this head coaching search yeah good good points there um here was Wendy and his take on it this was on I believe this was Sports Center this might have been earlier today here is Brian Winhorse on the kid situation salute everybody in there’s mutual intrigue on both sides and also I know there’s this whole thing about asking for permission you don’t ask for permission to hire another team’s coach when you ask you’re going to hire them so essentially when the Knicks express interest the ball will be in the Mavericks court and they have three options as I see it one they can just say “No thank you very much jason will see you in the fall look forward to the season look forward to Cooper flag.” They can try to make Jason Kidd have zero interest in the Knicks possibly with the new contract they did just give him an extension last year or they can negotiate a trade and we have seen a handful of trades of coaches over the last 15 to 18 years including Jason Kidd being traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Milwaukee Bucks for two second round picks 11 years ago so it’s not like Jason Kidd hasn’t been in this situation before yeah so as you said kid did get traded from the Nets to the Bucks we’ve seen Doc Rivers get traded from the Celtics to the Clippers for a first is this Nico saying “Hey I already got fleeced on the Luca thing and they want my head on a chopping block here in Dallas let me slow it down a little bit and see what I could get.” How much do you want this guy Leon let me see what I can get here you know whatever you guys have left we got to look into that what with the Knicks uh bag is but is that Nico say “You know what let me slow it slow it down a little bit and try to get the most out of this thing what do you have to offer me Le?” I think this is a leverage play man yeah it’s a leverage play like you like you know the CP it’s all business it’s all a leverage play right and it’s about to see who’s going to blink first cuz Leon is looking at this and saying like “Bro you just got fleeced.” Like we we might try to fleece you again uh and and listen but that doesn’t mean you have to the the thing about leverage is you want to see who’s a little bit more desperate here are the Knicks desperate for Jason Kid that’s the thing wendy makes a fantastic point you don’t ask for permission unless you’re trying to get the guy he’s 100% right about that and I think him saying that matters a ton and explain to people this how it goes you don’t ask for per somebody unless that’s your top choice that’s a guy you want to go get um yeah I think it really comes down to like how unhappy happy is he makes another good point dallas could try to keep him there by saying “Hey we’ll extend you more we believe in you as our coach for the future we want you to coach Cooper Flag & Company for years to come so we’re gonna invest this money in you we’ll see but if there have been some reports and I think it was um there’s a couple I forgot Tim McMahon I think said said this on the Hoop Collective podcast he said “Hey J Jason K hasn’t been happy about some of the decisions or not being included in some of the decisions in Dallas including the Luca trade um including the Knicks trainer who’s his boy who now is you know over here uh they’ve got a very tight relationship so he might want to come to the Knicks who he thinks has more talent right now ready to go in 2026 uh than the Mavs do so yeah we we’ll see i don’t Yeah I don’t think this is dead by any means CP i don’t think it’s dead at all no I I don’t I don’t think so either man uh Dan from New Jersey dan no mute your mic k y’all hear me yep lad man how you doing man i’m doing well guys i’m doing well uh I just wanted to come and bear my thoughts real quick on uh the coaching uh idea for Kid if you guys don’t mind sure well I’m not really I’ll be honest i’m not really too familiar with Kid’s coaching style from what I’ve heard from like hearsay people that know a lot more than me like Dallas fans or like Milwaukee fans he’s he’s a little bit of a tib mild you know a little bit ISO heavy on the offense you know things like that but he’s got potential because he’s definitely you know he he definitely saw the floor at a higher level when he was a point guard so you always want to take that into account but you know I kind of don’t really want to go with the whole deplete the whole roster get Giannis get kid playing cuz I kind of feel like this team has a really solid foundation with Brunson we have a second offensive engine with Cat we have pretty good role players some of them are considered to be elite role players i think I would rather just go out there and get me a dynamo like who do you want who do you want i mean listen man i’m I’m I’m a Johnny I’m a Johnny Bryan advocate okay i’m Johnny Brian Hive all the way okay okay and listen I know he hasn’t gotten his coaching opportunity but if you want to make that jump I think you got to make you know a really bold move and hiring Johnny Bryant would be the bold move for me all right man rate rate that call in the chat one being trash five being facts uh he wants Johnny B man he he he wants Johnny B i I don’t I don’t think Johnny B is is is crazy i I think what you have to do if you go with a Johnny Bryant is I think you have to make sure he’s got a good associate head coach on that staff somebody that can help him navigate the waters a little bit the the thing about Johnny Bryant that works in the Knicks favor is he’s got he’s this is what I’ve been told he’s got good relationships with people on the team he was obviously within the organization i think there’s value in the fact that he was under Tibs he can see what worked and did not work with some of these players with Tibs and can make some adjustments from that and if you believe that he has got a good innovative mind if you believe he’s got good relationships uh with the players in within the organization you think he’s your guy go for it i think this is what the next the one point the caller just made i think it’s good if whoever you believe your guy is you got to go and rock with it right and you said this too whether it was Jason Kid if you think that’s the guy to lead him you have to stand on it and rock and you know and rock with it and you know we we’ll we’ll we’ll see cp you saw this you’re a Yankees fan you remember back in the day when they fired Buck Shaw Walter in 95 after that loss and then they went to Joe Tory joe Tory being the next guy was not a popular move that was not something a lot of people were like nobody knew who Joe Tori nobody know who Joe Tori was but he didn’t believe in his managerial acumen and the Yankees had the right guy with the right temperament for that team and and he took him to the next level and this is kind of the crossroads moment the Knicks are at and if you have your guy and you believe in him whether it’s proven or unproven you got to go rock with your guy and listen what no matter what people say about Leon Rose the one thing I think you can’t deny is in terms of hiring people around him in the front office and that and the support staff he’s made good hires in that so if you like that why do you think he won’t get this one right that’s that would be my only thing i think you kind of got to trust he’s put good people around him in the front office there’s no doubt about that so I I I think you have to like give give him faith on this one yeah that’s looks that’s that’s me man like Leon has hit on most of the right things and we got to trust trust the process you know we definitely got to trust the process the the one thing that has been now mentioned a little bit more that I do agree with and it’s where I question whether or not they would go the the Bryant route is the PR standpoint because and as you mentioned you know kid handling the pressure and what I mean from the PR standpoint is that the coach of the Knicks you’re the spokesperson you speak for the GM you speak for everybody because nobody else is talking and so you got to take those bullets for everybody else would they put that on a young upstar coach with no coaching experience at any level no head coaching experience at any level with the expectations would they put that on him would be interesting or would they depart from that and have Leon be more transparent that would be interesting yeah but see that’s that’s part of the coaching hire for the Knicks is that You’re right because we don’t hear from Dolan because we don’t hear from Leon Rose and doesn’t talk to the media you’re right when you’re head coach of the Knicks you’re going to take that job you were taking all the bullets yeah that is coming and look the Knicks are going to have a time next year where they have a three-game skid uh in the middle of the season and all the expectations going to be high everybody’s going to overreact and be like “What’s going on?” And there’s a lot of pressure on Johnny Bryant if he’s the head coach on that i’m I’m not saying he can’t handle it not saying that i don’t know i’m just saying it is a lot for a first timer that’s why I think if you do go with him and you believe in him you have to put the right support staff around him look we’ve seen coaches in tough situations who were young come in and get the job done even with some rocky moments joe Missoula did it in Boston boston is not in New York but Boston they expect to win they expect championships there there was a great expectation on Joe Missoula with the roster he had and listen he navigated some tough times and they stuck with it but if you go with your guy that’s kind of my point you got to believe in your guy and I understand fans are going to be fans and no matter who they hire it’s not going to be perfect within two weeks we’ll hear people saying “Oh we should have kept Tibs oh we don’t like this guy.” It’s you got to trust the process no Sixers but you got to trust the process right and and see this through and and really believe in your guy and I think you know despite I don’t like the fact that they don’t talk to the media and I do think it’s important for people like Leon Rose they should talk to the media um they have made good hires uh I I I can’t knock him on that and you know we we we just got to see but you’re right it’s a question is Johnny Bryant or some other first- time head coach Chris Quinn whoever you want to mention are those guys going to be uh ready for the firestorm that is the media here in New York yeah let’s uh salute some thought they extended him on a very friendly deal though let’s see what’s Lonzo Bull’s situation yeah we can’t be trading for a guy like that yeah well 2526 he’s got a $10 million uh salary and he’s got a club option for 2627 so he is signed he is under contract yeah I think he signed 20 or $20 million extension so that’s an interest that’s an interesting bring i haven’t heard anybody bring up Lonzo Ball that’s I’ve heard it the second time I’m hearing it it is not a bad idea if obviously health health being considered it’s not a bad idea man they they really need a backup point guard badly ball handler capable three-point shooter if you’re getting let’s say I’m just thinking this through off top of my head you’re not bringing back Cameron Payne who I don’t think is coming back uh you don’t bring back Precious Soula that frees up about the $10 million there that you could use for Lonzo Ball but you have to trade for him what are you giving up yeah no I’m not trading anything for Lonzo Baldman you want to give up a [ __ ] no you don’t want to get I know you don’t want to give up deuce no no no way no way i don’t know what the situation is with the knee you know i couldn’t do it i’m not trading anything for him no i I I couldn’t do it they’re going to want something back it’s it’s a smart signing by the Bulls when they extended him because I guarantee you even if he doesn’t get traded this off seasonason some point next season but close to the trade deadline with that it’s a team option or a player option team oh that’s a great that’s a friendly deal cuz you can get out of it i like the thought process i just think you’re going to have to trade for him and I don’t know what the Knicks are going to give up cp the franchise Dexter Henry here we are talking Nick Knicks coaching search what is going on with Jason Kid man if the Knicks hit a roadblock it’s just a leverage play what do you guys think leave us some comments in the chat uh shout out to Miguel Nooks he’s not talking coaches he’s talking trade he says “All right three-team trade knicks Rockets Bucks knicks get Giannis bucks get Jabari Smith Jr and Tyler Kick two Suns first round picks and the Knicks pick two Nick pick swaps rockets get Cat or Bridges and Doier i I don’t see I don’t see why the Rockets would why the Rockets do that why the Rockets would give up two good first round picks and not get Giannis in that in that move you know what I mean right that I I we just did a video the other day myself Brian Fana we went through the trade machine we tried to do all these Giannis trades and you know people want to check out the video check it out but what I would say to you to summarize it is a lot of the trades that you can make directly with the Knicks and the Bucks don’t seem realistic for the Bucks right like even if you’ve even if you’re giving up Cat you could I worked this out you can give up Cat combined with Cole or Dier with the 2026 Washington first round pick which again folks you got to remember it’s not that attractive is only attractive remember it’s top eight protected right so I think a lot of us that watch hoops will think the Wizards are going to be one of the eight worst teams in basketball next year and probably in the top eight right so that’s that pick is not going to convey it to be two second round picks so then you got to think about the fact that the Bucks are probably going to ask for all the Knicks pick swaps which they can do in 2028 2030 2032 do you want to do all that that’s that’s giving up everything for Giannis and I still don’t even think that’s a great deal for the Bucks because it’s not like they got a young player they could build around um whether it’s Kak or Dier it’s not that and they’re probably not getting high picks uh for the next couple years so they’re not getting immediate returns on this right i I I just I’ve also looked at it with Mikuel Bridges or OG Anobi who’s another large salary you want to bring in you’re probably talking OG and Josh Hart but now that cuts into your depth i don’t know how CP Where are you on do you want Giannis or No no because I mean you like Giannis for sure of course right of course you know if you’re talking about Giannis for cat straight up obviously but but I don’t again I don’t see like you said I don’t see a world in which the Bucks try to help the Knicks out try to help Giannis out they owe it to their fans and to their ad stakeholders to get the most for this guy if he asks for a trade and if he does you can expect 29 other teams in the NBA to be beating down their door with offers that will probably be better than what the Knicks can give so unless he holds him up by gunpoint and it’s like it’s New York or nothing and they still don’t have to do it because he doesn’t have much leverage he’s still in the contract yep i think it’s a long shot man yeah damen Lillard wanted Miami or nothing right and that didn’t go down right so we’ve seen places where players have wanted to go and it’s not happened because Portland ended up making what was the best deal for them so yeah Damen Lillard didn’t want to go to Milwaukee we all we all we all know this so I I I don’t think that uh I just don’t see it for the I don’t see it for the Knicks with the Bucks i just think that the Knicks don’t have enough that will entice the Bucks like Lift if anything that I just mentioned even if the Knicks gave up all their pick swaps which I think would be a little bit absolutely risky even if they did that in the trade I proposed I still don’t think it’s a good deal for the Bucks i think that’s a that’s a win for the Knicks it’s not quite so Luca Don’s fleecing and see that’s what I think is everybody going crazy they’re like “Look Nico got fleece for Luca so the Knicks could probably fleece the Bucks for Giannis.” I don’t necessarily think that’s going to work like that so no no no i’m I’m with you on that um salute to everybody in the screams like old Nicks old star chasing Nicks but in this time like regards to coaching it feels like we’re just chasing the big names and we’re forgetting why we fire tips were just like “Hey Emma Odoka led the second seed let’s just get him.” Hey Jason Kid was in the finals last year let’s just get him chris Finch Western Conference finals let’s get him and it’s not bad to look for coaches who are already hired it’s a very smart strategy that a lot of teams don’t too mhm but it feels like it’s just lazy it’s like is this guy the best fit for us or do we just want him because he’s Jason Kid he’s a great coach but is he the coach for us why don’t you look at like a Willie Green a Will Hardy a Quinn Snider a guy in like who might be not too happy with their current situation but is under contract technically that could be a good fit for us i don’t know i Those are just names I’m floating around i just feel like it’s just lazy the due diligence they’re doing well who I Well I I I can hear where you’re coming from maybe they’re looking at it from the Brunson perspective brunson was very high on him you know Jaylen Jaylen was very high on on Jason Kid and as a matter of fact this has to be the huge focus of that but what about the other names what if Dallas says “I don’t I’m extending we’re restructuring Jason Kid’s contract yeah we’re keeping him a Chris Finch you can’t get an Emodoka but there are other guys there’s a Quinn Snder there are many guys with experience leading successful teams that players rave about josh raves about Willie Green he’s been he’s had a record like backtoback really seasons but he’s still but he’s still a coach somehow so do you look into that maybe he wants to coach Bright Lights in New York things like that i don’t I feel like it’s just we have to look for some hidden gems already in the league if you don’t want to go the assistant coaching route yeah I I agree with you there i would just say that based on his track record Leon doesn’t fly blind man and West they don’t fly blind and the the the situation with Tibs in terms of being on the hot seat is not new you know we’ve mentioned this on this show a couple of times so in that regard they’ve had to had discussions in terms of if we do this who are we going to be looking at here who who are we going to be targeting i still think K is their top choice and I’m sure they have a plan B and a plan C just as they’ve had whether it’s free agency so on and so forth i don’t feel like they fly blind at least they haven’t made that impression what do you think yeah yeah i don’t I don’t think there’s I’d be stunned if they’re they’re flying blind here i do like some of the names the caller brought up i do like Willie Green will Hardy I don’t think is going anywhere i last off season there was any thought about getting rid of Tibs i I think this I said and I’ve said this I’ve been on record with saying this i thought this past season we just saw this in with the changing the starting lineup three-fifths of the starting lineup being different i thought the entire season was going to be a season of evaluation i thought the Knicks could be fringe contenders they got to the Eastern Conference Finals and I thought the team was going to evaluate everything and then see what they needed to tweak tweak from there i kept saying all season on my show it is much more likely the Knicks are better 2025 2026 season than they were in the 2024 2025 season i still believe that can be true so I think the Knicks evaluate everything as they should i think they looked at the moves now I think some people are also get caught up in less of the cat stuff and more of the Muel Bridges stuff and the five first round picks i will continue to say this the price is the price they had to pay the the Nets tax the Nets little brother in the city the Nets wanted to make sure the Knicks had to pay a little bit more the Knicks wanted to get themselves a good defensive wing who could be a good third option scoring did Muel Bridges have a strong season no do I think Muel Bridges can be a little bit more comfortable next season in New York yes I do i still would have wanted that trade i wanted Mikuel Bridges on the team before i brought his name up last offseason thinking there was no way the Knicks would get him i was told by somebody within the Nets that trade wouldn’t happen i was literally told that and the Knicks the Knicks still got him i still think that the jury on that trade is not out i still think you can things can change i just think people everybody wants tomorrow yesterday everybody wants immediate results cp I think people got to wait and let this team build and make tweaks not major tweaks minor tweaks and get to next level are there concerns absolutely but I think one of the things I do agree with this team and this organization are doing is it would have been easy for them to stay complacent and say “Oh we’re going to run this back with everybody.” And they looked at it and said “Okay Tibs has his flaws here’s what we need to tweak.” Now that doesn’t mean it’s easy to find the next coach because in some ways I could also say it’s the the the easy part of that process while it is challenging it’s done you fired the coach the hard part is finding the right guy we’ll see if they could do it did Listen I don’t know if Johnny Bryant could be the best coach for the Knicks to go forward it could be Jason Kid it could be James Rego could be Mike Brown somebody else I mentioned on the show could be Terry Sts i have no idea you just got to hope you got to trust your process to try to get the right guy in and see what happens there’s no bonafide answer look I’ll ask you this CP you probably Some people thought Phil Jackson was going to come in here and be a great uh coach or G a GM for this team and then that didn’t work out we had I thought David Fdale was going to be thought Larry Brown was going to bring us to the chip yeah that’s what I’m saying the worst coach they had in the 20th century yeah so you don’t you don’t know there’s no like guaranteed answer for this like there’s no exact science for hiring in regular jobs people make bad hires all the time i’ve seen it I’ve seen it we’ve worked with people everybody watching you’ve worked with people you’re like “How did they hire this person how is this person my boss?” This stuff happens so it’s not easy you just got to hope that they have a good process in place and uh somebody that fits the culture and the vision of the team and and that it works out well you can’t let him walk for free this next off season so I was wondering what your opinion is on that and also do you think it’d be more likely that Mitchell Robinson will resign an extension or get traded this uh next year because you know he has so much uh injury history and I feel like he’s at his peak trade value at this point because of how well he played in the playoffs so I don’t know what would be more beneficial for us but yeah I just wanted your opinion on those two yeah with with Muel and you let me know what you think Dex i think with Bridges unless it’s in a package for a significant upgrade I think he will get signed i think he will get signed i I don’t think you you trade him for you know three or four role players three role players or or a role play and a couple picks i think they sign him i think they sign him too i do not to the call i do not think he’s going to get the max cuz I know that he’s available for a max session that’s close to what Brunson extended for i don’t think he’ll get the max i think he’ll get slightly less than that so if he gets somewhere around 35 millionish I could see that somewhere between 33 35 million on a you know annual average i could see that i think Bridges is a fine player there’s Listen do I like the fact that he doesn’t always go all the way to the rim no he shies away from the content i thought his defense got better as the season got along i thought he was really good defensively in the playoffs so that’s big part of why you brought him here i think he’ll be more comfortable in year two i trust the process with Bridges i have a feeling with the Bridges deal next year nobody’s going to be talking about the picks we might finally quiet that now the Mitchell Robinson question I think that’s a really good question I think the Knicks are at a very interesting place with Mitchell Robinson Summer for what the caller just mentioned you’re right his value is is as high as it’s ever been because it was low at the start of last year now it’s high with how he’s played right CP can you flip him into a couple of role players that also would depend on how you feel about Ariel Hawkport maybe then stepping up into the backup center role that’s always interesting now the Knicks have had some history in the last couple years of developing some bigs and I don’t think they get enough credit for that listen they made Nerland Noel work out pretty well he has Stonehands we saw that uh Isaiah Hardenstein we see what he developed into right mitchell Robinson if you look at his development from being a second round pick so they’ve done a good job with some bigs and maybe Hawk Pro is the next guy they could think of and they don’t want to invest as much but can you trade Mitch into maybe like a bigger wing off the bench or I’m just spitballing here the Knicks I think are going to think long and hard about that the problem is if you keep Cat on the team you kind of need someone like Mitch that’s good defensively bro you need Yeah you need that security blanket right that that’s what you need CP you need somebody that good defensively and that good you saw impactful he was on the offensive glass so I think the Knicks will look at options i do um also you still can’t fully trust his health but they might look at it and say “Man he’s as healthy he’s ever been his value is as high as it’s ever been maybe we move him.” I could see it but I think a lot of it depends on what they decide to do with Cat again this all goes to what does a new coach want which we still don’t know this is this this this helps answer a lot of those questions what does that new coach want and if that new coach is like “Hey I’m going to work I’m going to work with Cat here but I need some I need a security blanket as CP just said then I think u Mitch is safe.” But I do think let’s I’ll put this other here let’s say they start the year and things are starting to look good better with Mitch and Cat and some of the line the different lineup combinations they’re playing and you can see the value of Mitch and Mitch is healthy you might hear some talks mid-season about an extension i think I think you could hear that to keep him part part of the part of the crew um you know I think talks for him and like uh D still has another year before we get to that you’ll start to hear that come up but yeah I think it’s likely that Bridges extends this summer uh I would say it’s more likely that that Mitch would get traded but I I don’t I I think the Knicks it depends on what the what they want the roster to look like really depends on that depends on what they could get for him but I just think right as of right now he’s so important to their defense you know now if they go into the draft and they feel like they they found a nice diamond in the rough that could come in and play right away hey maybe he does get traded for some more rotation you know you might have to sacrifice but I just think he’s so important for their off their second chance opportunities their rebounding and as a signal call on that defense man you heard him miked up in that playoff series he’s he’s been for a team that that was not talking enough and communicating enough and effective in that regard defensively i have a hard time seeing them trading him off the rip like that but again you know for a team that really needs a lot of bench depth you just never know i No nobody’s untouchable outside of Jaylen Brunson on this team right now i I I mean I don’t disagree now that doesn’t mean I think that they need to make sweeping changes you You know what CP you know what i feel like we’re dancing around you know in the whole thing i think the big issue is going to come down to be the coach that they hire do they do they realize the facts i’m talking about facts and numbers here do they realize that you you are likely not going to be able to win with heavy minutes of Brunson and Cat on the floor at the same time and what do you do about that right so it kind of makes sense either you got to move off of one you’re not moving off for Brunson obviously so you know we’re talking about Cat um what could you get for him could you get an upgrade defensive play i know some people in the chat are going to bring up KD i understand that i got my concerns with his age and his own health but I understand the vision of what people see of of him with somebody could come in you could put him at the four he’ll be better defensively than Cat even at his age that’s the crazy part but what what are you doing that’s the thing i think a lot of it is going to be about how a coach looks at that can I win with both those guys on the floor because are you going to play with more lineups experiment with more lineups so you can stagger their minutes and h kind of hide try to hide the weaknesses of Cat right i mean is do I think there’s a coach that could turn Cat around defensively probably not he’s in year 10 no it’s probably not happening it’s not happening he is who he is could he look a little less lost CP maybe maybe because that’s my thing with him he looks lost out there it’s not Stephan Bondi about this uh right after the season I said who do you think is the most likely young player to make an impact next year in the rotation he said I thought he was going to say actually proteier yeah and Yeah people in their organization are high on Dier it’s Dier definitely um they’re high on Dier i was high on him uh I did a pre-draft show last year with Chris Persian from Nicks Film School and we talked about Daddy i like his skills i think he’s got a lot he’s got a ways to go defensively but I like his skills i think people will see what his skills are i’m very intrigued to see what he can do in summer league i’m definitely intrigued to see what he can do in Vegas it’s Dier has the tools to be a two-way player um very young 19 you know party’s been a pro before he’s what how old is Py 20 something years old so um I I think he will still be an adequate backup five kick has a long way to go but he could still potentially be a backup point guard i want to see him be a bit more aggressive this summer league i’ll be watching that see how his offense progresses like you look look at how McConnell move moves with that Pacers unit if you want to compare him to McConnell you know a lot of people want to make that kind of lazy comparison but if you want to look look at how aggressive McConnell is in terms of getting into his bag he gets to that mid-range that’s his shot and that’s what I want to see Kick work on you know playmaking is all great he could do that in his sleep but they’re going to need him to be a bigger threat offensively and he has the tools three-point shot wasn’t falling for him a lot of times it was flat it was very short get inside get that get that mid-range zone and then become a threat there i think that’s the key for him and then just being competent on defense because you I remember that game against the Clippers this year where paint campaign went out and he came he had to play the second half and James Harden and Ty Louu did rightfully so hunted him every possession and he was lost and look I’m not going to kill him he’s a rookie you’re asking a rookie to go guard James Harden and put you in James Harden and Kawhi Leonard pick and rolls that’s that’s hard to do you know I just think the Knicks got to hit on the margins they got to make some smart signings they’re going to have to take some risks you just mentioned the word risk with Leon when you were responding to Chuck’s point um look you got to take risks to make a championship there’s no like I think people want like “Yo check this box right move check.” It don’t work like that like you got to make some risks along the way every championship team does you hope you hit the right moves right some pay off um and and it works out but you got to take some risk you can’t just sit back all the time i think one I don’t want to call it a risk but I think one of the philosophical changes is going to be getting some younger guys like Dier some more opportunities to contribute to the even if it’s seven to 10 minutes a night yeah I think Dier is great two-way ability i’m very high on his ability and so I I also think I have high hopes for Hawkport too i want to add I do think Hawky can has some raw talent um I think he could be developed almost in the way Hartinstein was i think that’s a guy you should look at his game he’s a He’s an underrated passer i think that’s what people haven’t seen about Horty yet underrated passer so when you’re watching summer league watch how they use him in a lot of high pick and roll situations uh high post Rocket side now here’s the problem do the Bucks want to take back that salary and how does it help him so they’re ideally going to want young players yeah the problem is you’re probably going to have to add in a Dylan Brooks which I got to look at his contracts he has left probably Fred Van Vleet right just to get the money to start working close to what KD makes which is about 50 plus million dollars yeah um who’s another high price guy in the Rockets that’s making some money well look let look i’mma keep What’ you say that’s pretty much it cuz are you giving up Sangon in this deal i don’t see I don’t see it are you giving up i mean Jaylen Green hasn’t signed yet so you don’t might need a little adjustments i think this you know they don’t they don’t got the salary really to to fill it and you’re taking in a KD that’s the problem um and this is the challenge with these apron the apron situations is this is what makes it hard very hard um yeah you and the Bucks are only going to want to take back salary for them as they’re trying to rebuild that is expiring or close to expiring that they can control so that’s where Fred Van Vleet comes in as a good salary or Dylan Brooks but I still don’t think that’s enough you need one more player or players that to get you closer to the number of KDs so that’s a challenge in the trade yeah 100% uh shout well hey we This was a good I kind of sold him on some of the points that that we heard here is that Mike Brown’s been a good coach he’s won wherever he’s gone he got a raw deal with the Lakers we know this we won’t even talk about what they did out in Sacramento which was absolutely ridiculous here’s why I like Mike Brown he’s more I think he’s known as defensive guy he’s from the Papovic coaching tree um he’s but he’s been very adaptable i think his offensive game and mind expanded from being the couple of years he was under Steve Kerr and I think he’s he’s now sees and knows both sides of the ball i think he can handle coaching in a big market i think he’s a a malleable mind um and I think that’s important for this organization i think you have good relationships with players um I talked to some people last year at summer league on on the Kings coaching staff when he was there it talked about love working under him so yeah I I I think I think he’s a good name i actually like him i I’m not sure why he hasn’t been brought up more um I think people look at his stance and say “Ah it didn’t work there.” there but I think if you really look look at what he did in Sacramento and he was coaching a team that had a weak defensive guard in De’Aran Fox and a weak defensive big in De Manis Sabonis and he had that offense humming and I think he didn’t even have as good wings around him as the Knicks do so So if you give him better wings defensively I’d like to see what he could cook with i like Mike Brown i think Mike Brown’s a fine name what do you think intriguing definitely intriguing you know the the word I got is is that I don’t think he’s high on their list but he could be under consideration that that’s the word I got um not high but could be under consideration could be under consideration um in their you know part of the expansive list that That’s what I got i wonder I wonder if he’s a guy that would get a look or an interview but if he’s not high in the list that’s probably likely no yeah um do I think he’s a guy worth looking into absolutely yeah I think so agreed agreed so hey as the world turns Nick’s coaching edition never a dull moment uh Dax what what do you got coming up
