Miami Heat Advised To Circle Back On De’Aaron Fox Trade | Nikola Jović Is 22 – What’s His Next Step?
hey welcome on in guys toby here with you and thanks for checking out the channel hope you’re doing well out there if you guys could subscribe that’d be great and appreciate you stopping by so couple things that have been in the uh in the offseason ether today uh involve uh Kevin Durant uh more Spurs fodder that was out there by Bill Simmons who’s like the ring that’s basically the impression of it um which would reflect a little bit on uh John Gamadoro’s reports last week that Kevin Durant is intrigued by the Spurs um that that he has some interest in going to the Spurs there’s some mutual interest in going to the Spurs and um you know all of that being not great news of course for the Miami Heat if that were to happen um because certainly I think a lot of people look at Kevin Durant and say like hey if there is going to be a place if there’s going to be a move the Miami Heat have you know that’s the one now look to be fair to Kevin Durant it’s not like I don’t understand why he would want to choose San Antonio or prefer a San Antonio or be intrigued by a San Antonio more than a Miami let’s be fair about it yes you’re playing for a rookie head coach or essentially a rookie head coach um but you know you’re going into a situation where at the very least you’re playing with a former all-star in Dearron Fox and you’re playing with a an extraterrestrial who is coming off of the blood clots um and I don’t and and is also you know basically a 75 version of you a guy who copycats you who tries to be you now probably should be inside a little bit more but is one of these freaks that I think for Kevin Durant who being a basketball head the way that he is would be intrigued by something like that um it just it you know I think for the Heat standpoint you know the only thing they really have going for them right now they have Bam they have Tyler who are two tremendous players but they are in the the the bellow of like this Eastern Conference that’s a little bit bland right now and certainly somebody could look at that and take advantage and be like I want to stick in the East it’s an easier path to the title i would agree with that especially with Boston you know being on the ability to revamp some things and uh and probably you know tear their team apart a little bit uh especially with Tatum being done for this season but you know from the Spurs standpoint it is interesting because you know they they have the number two pick they could just skew very very young like they made the trade for De’arren Fox last year they have the number two pick they got the rookie of the year in Stfan Castle on top of women so they could do a an Oklahoma City type thing here where yeah maybe it takes them three years but it probably isn’t as vast a wait as long as when good coming back as opposed to like putting a jolt into it putting Kevin Durant in there to be your certified guy um yeah there’s been some Giannis noise as well around them but there was also an interesting thing today where um there’s an article in Yahoo Sports talking about the conundrum the Spurs are about to get into with the number two pick because they’re basically going to it’s likely they’re going to draft Dylan Harper that’s you know looked upon as the best guy at number two guess they could go Bailey i’m sure they could you know stunt some people and go edgecom but most people think that you would go Dylan Harper in that situation and there’s a piece by Kevin Okconor just basically talking about what a uh what a weird fit that would be because you have three guys in Fox Castle and Harper who are not very good shooters um and you know with a when there’s an element to you have somebody like that who could feast in the paint and likes to get up threes himself that you want to surround him with more shooting so the the part that references the heat here is they talk about a an option where they get to a point where they could trade De’arren Fox okay and he’s mind you owed an extension that’s probably going to be for like over 200 million um he wanted to go to San Antonio he’s from there and they traded a good amount of draft capital for him now not all of their picks they traded uh a Minnesota pick and a Charlotte pick but um they traded three first round picks for him and so he suggests the idea of like what if you just go with Harper you go with Castle and then you trade De’Aran Fox because you didn’t think you’re going to get the number two pick and essentially move on from the De’Aran Fox experiment before it really begins and he suggests the logical teams that would be involved in a trade and he mentions the Miami Heat mentions the Brooklyn Nets and he mentions the Houston Rockets he said “Trade De’arren Fox for Fred Van Vleet Jabari Smith the 10th pick in future firsts.” Um Fred Vanley gives the Spurs a vet while Smith would be a fascinating fit next to WBY he also mentions for the Nets Cam Johnson and draft capital and Johnson space the floor fits the timeline and then he mentions for the Heat which it seems for some reason like the biggest hall that you would get for De’Aran Fox which I’m just confused by but he says for De’Arren Fox trade Duncan Robinson okay logical he’s expiring haywood Heismith Nicola Yovic and the 20th pick and unprotected picks in 2030 and 2032 fox upgrades Miami’s point guard spot while San Antonio gets picks and three shooters including a young P piece in Yovic um I gotta tell you that seems like a a much more vast hall for De’arren Fox than the other pieces while yes you’re getting more proven pieces in Cam Johnson who’s obviously tremendous as as a shooter and then you just mentioned draft capital it’s kind of just like thrown out there so I don’t know what that means but when you said you’re essentially giving away three first round picks of your draft capital one of them being this year at 20 which is not like a a parade pick but also two unprotected picks for De’arren Fox which would essentially take away your any swing that you would have at anybody for De’Aran Fox who is definitely a player I’ve been intrigued about the Heat going after um in the past but I definitely think that where the Miami Heat are at right now what they have to figure out right now I don’t know if De’aran Fox is the type of guy where you’re like “Yeah that’s where we’re going.” And especially the idea that you already have a backcourt mate in Tyler Hero and I’m like “All right does that does that fit does that does that work i mean investing that much in that duo because you’re going to have to give him a big contract tyler a big contract bam’s already under a big contract and then on top of it you’ve eradicated three first round picks and to me it’s just like hey if you’re the Spurs I don’t know what other people would offer De’arren Fox right now but if you’re the Spurs and you know that he’s owed a big contract um and you’re the and you’re leaking out there and you’re like “Hey yeah yeah yeah yeah we want to get three first round picks back i’m like yeah no dice like you gave up three first round would I do it for a first round pick maybe two on top of this package i’d consider it i still don’t love the idea of throwing Yovic in here as far as a little sweetener for somebody who I don’t know is like the quintessential pick for Miami um I like De’ar Fox don’t get me wrong like it’s not it’s not like I hate the player it just feels it feels like a lot of young capital that the Heat are giving up you know cuz you’re not only talking about giving up this year’s pick but two f unprotected futures in what are we talking five six years i don’t know man i I feel like if you’re going to I think we’re starting to see and I think the Heat are kind of learning on this right if you’re giving up picks like that man you better be damn sure because the Heat they’ve gotten bit in the ass with this stuff um with giving up draft capital like they gave up the the draft capital for Goron Dragage understandable swing um and got some good runs also had some bad fortune with Chris Bosch you gave up first round picks to clear out the mistakes of Assan Whiteside and also to get Jimmy Butler understandable gamble the terrible move and give it up a first round pick for Terara Roier and the Kyle Lowry trade um but if you’re talking about like hey we want to have a year where we’re in the game for whoever make it Anthony Edwards make it Luca make it whoever the whale you think is that you need draft capital are you really willing to blow all that on De’arren Fox especially on a rebound deal for the Spurs where they’re like “Oopsy we don’t want him anymore.” I don’t know man to me like if that happens let’s just say this did happen and the Spurs were like “Hey guess what?” Tells Rich Paul “Hey guess what we don’t want to go there we We don’t We’re not We’re not keeping De’Arren right?” Which I don’t think is going to happen i think like I’d imagine that he is going to stick around um but I would imagine like all right and and and we already know he went where he wanted to go in the first place you don’t think Rich Paul’s going to steer him if he wants to go where he wants to go and that he aren’t going to know that and be like we’ll give you up to the we’ll give you the the the 20th pick and maybe a pick way down that is protected un I just like saw that like that seems like a hall for De’Arren Fox and I just don’t know if he’s at that level right this second and and certainly like my mindset has changed from the middle of the season how could it not like the way that the season ended and the way everything unfolded i I think that the Heat do have to be really cautious on where they go i’m not saying that I wouldn’t trade him for nothing i there’s a reasonable price there that just seemed like a a vast overspend between giving up Yovic 20 and two first round picks i’m like “Happy birthday Nicole Yoic by the way turns 22 which is look he’s also a fascinating part of this right because he’s going to be in any trade.” I think I think a lot of people would be intrigued by the idea of what Nicolola is going to be you know you could sign an extension this year i don’t know if that’s going to happen i think that’s uh that’s only one of those where it’s like it’s a healthy discount um and I don’t know where Nico’s at as far as like what does he want to because I think Nico probably knows like I could probably do better and get myself in a position to earn a much healthier deal even if that’s in restricted free agency um it’s essentially you’re in the spot where people with DV Mitch award it’s like yeah all right he went past his option year now he’s going into restricted free agency where the Heat have him and they got to decide like where this all goes but um you know for Nico man I really just love him as a player i love his attitude as a player i I acknowledge it’s a little bit of a weird fit like and let’s just say the Heat don’t do anything there is an element where you’re like well you already know pretty much what your starting unit’s going to be right like it’s going to be Da’Von it’s going to be Tyler it’s gonna Let’s see when DaVon comes back davon Tyler Wiggins man Kell you’re hoping for improvement from Kell you’re hoping for a more comfortable Wiggins um DaVon and Tyler with more chemistry together and then essentially you’re going into this with Nico being your sixman again which I thought he was really good at um and then there’s a part of you that’s like “All right well could the if they parted ways with Wiggins and could get I don’t know second round picks for him or whatever.” Um or maybe find more shooting for their team is there a world where the He go DaVon Tyler and then play all three bigs because I’d really I loved when the Heat tinkered with that that to me was really really interesting and I wouldn’t mind if this is going to be a year where the Heat [Music] uh I guess figure things out and and and and aren’t going to go all in they don’t see the the pathway they don’t see the chips like I do think it’s a year to get weird i think it’s a year to to try things i think it’s a year to really truly be invested in experiments like that so I’m just curious but like yeah that that deal was out there i think all of that stuff uh you know the Heat not exactly being feeling like they’re in the catbird seat right now and Durant possibly deciding on San Anton even you know I guess in you know Simmons like don’t we’ll see but that’s obviously noise that we have heard with the team um and I don’t know what that does for like if if Durant does go I’d assume that the number two pick or is going to be part of it i would assume that’s the big carrot that you’re dangling to Phoenix even if it’s but but even if it’s not like will they still be in a spot i feel like Durant’s going to want to play with some grown-ups right like he doesn’t want to play with all kids and you know no CP3 there like to me it would make sense more of like if Durant happens that Fox is going to be there this seems more like hey if Durant doesn’t and we take Harper we’re going to go youth movement and take some time to develop do we keep dear Fox around i I mean like from my perspective if I was the Spurs I would just keep him around and and you know let Harper slow roll it and see what happens um I don’t know like I don’t picture Webmanyama making a stink about it but if they do end up in a place where like De’Arren Fox is like “Well I don’t want to be here if my eventual I don’t want to be in another situation where like if my eventual uh replacement is here does he ask out?” I suppose that could happen but if he asks out like I’m if I’m the I’m not giving up three first round picks for a disgruntled De’Aran Fox seems like like insanity to me you know like I guess I put it like this there’s no way that in a scenario like this if the Spurs are flipping De’Aran Fox there’s no way it’s a pleased De’Aran Fox which to me would mean yeah your draft capital is going to go down and how much you get for him just from my perspective um and then on top like on top of it you’re out of Nico like uh uh-uh uh-uh uh-uh no i I that that to me is a no cell not not not for not for Fox i like him as a player um clutch we know about the BAM relationship not exactly you know not look we’ve done plenty of segments about the Heat acquiring Darren Vox um but there is a little bit of like all right once you’re out of the initial chase and you know then okay the next team is trying to flip him you know it has a little bit of like a a Victor Oladipo feel right like we all love Vic as a player like represented everything well but you kind of were like “All right are you getting this at like the peak of its powers?” And knowing that like nothing happened to De’aran Fox but it just to me wouldn’t sit well if it’s just like “Yeah they just traded him for three first round picks you’re now trading him for three first round picks and one of your most intriguing young players i don’t know that that to me just doesn’t I I wouldn’t stomach that one too well and and I am curious to see what is to come of Nico you know 22 years old got Euro basket coming up and it’s so unfortunate what happened with that injury this year i know that he had like the bad game uh in the playoffs but like he also was so huge in even making that a game i just love the things that he’s about and I understand it’s a weird fit because he is a tall player who is getting better defensively um has grown very strong but has to also take advantage of his physical gifts to punish smaller players like has to but you talk about like on this team of like willing playmakers guys who play with a little speed just guys who play different you know everything that everybody loves about the Pacers and playing with up and down you know pace and getting and going like he’s about those things and making plays for his teammates and making plays for his fellow bigs um it’s got to be something special for me to want to give him up and it’s nothing against Dearan Fox i just think that plus draft capital knowing even that he’s got a deal coming up I’m no sell on that i I I I can’t I can’t co-sign

LEEEE-ROYYYYY
That's a horrible deal… Only one benefit from those picks are the San Antonio Spurs😢
make jovic PG
Hell no for that fox trade given up too much keep jovic
3 1st and jovic is waaaaaaay too much
Just put Jovic at the 3 so he can play with Bam and Ware. Wiggins trade to get a PG.
Give me Collin Sexton, Jordan Clarkson, Demar, a back up big, round out that bench out & 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Any talk about giving up jovic im hanging up … he’s probably one of the few players on the team you can actually see progression
Trade him for Tyler straight up lol
0:30 Bill Simmons aka Swedish Chef 😂
That trade is a crime if Miami goes through with that 😂😂😂 that same package you can get Greek services. Fox isn't worth all of that, im sorry
We need more tall time!
try to get herb or markannen.
Herro for Fox straight up. Works for both sides. Spurs get a young shooter, Heat keep their picks build around Bam and Fox duo.
Jovic stays, period.
League is telling you what the Heat's players are worth and there we go overvaluing them
People love to overrate a role bench player
