you mentioned KD He’s someone that could potentially go to the Knicks right guys that’s where I want to go right now The Knicks shocked the NBA world when they fired their head coach Tom Tippido following the most successful season in 25 years We now know the Knicks are interested in Jason Kidd to be their next head coach Kid’s potential move move excuse me is fueled by a strong relationship with Knicks point guard Jaylen Brunson AK Wendy where are you uh where do things stand between the Knicks and Kid right now okay so here’s the thing I I know that there’s going to be this whole thing that you see and there’s this formality about permission to speak When a co when you have a coach who is coaching another team you don’t ask to interview them You ask to hire them Okay and you don’t ask to hire them unless you think you’re going to get a yes So you pre-negotiate the idea of what it would take to hire them And that’s the stage where I believe we’re at right now Okay the Knicks would not have begun this process unless number one Kid wasn’t the guy they wanted to hire They’re not interviewing seven guys and then picking him Okay and number two they wouldn’t have thought they wouldn’t have gone down this process if they didn’t think Jason Kid was at least somewhat interested in coming to New York Okay so let’s understand those formalities Now you said now this is why this is going to be in the Maverick’s court Okay this does happen It’s not unheard of for a team to come after a coach sitting coach It’s happened a couple of times in the last year in the NBA Some of them are known some of them are not known One that is known for example was last year Phoenix was really interested in hiring Chanty Bilips away from the Trailblazers The Trailblazers said “No we’re holding on to Chanty Bips.” And by the way they’ve subsequently given him an additional contract Okay so the Mavericks can just say “No Jason Kit is under contract we’re about to draft Cooper Flag We’re going to bring him in and have him play alongside Anthony Davis We think we’re going to get Kyrie Irving back They could just say that or they could say to Jason Kidd “We want to make sure you’re not even caring about the Knicks Let’s do something to make you not care about the Knicks and give them a new contract.” Or they could make a deal And historically making a deal for coaches is cheap The last few head coaches who have been traded but couple of second round picks that’s cheap That means nothing So if you’re the Mavericks you got to figure who we’re going to get to coach And if the answer isn’t great then you’re going to hold on to your man Stephen A do you think kids should leave Dallas considering all that they have and potentially getting Cooper flag for New York i explained this yesterday It makes no sense unless you have an issue with ownership It makes no sense because when you look at Cooper Flag when you look at Anthony Davis when you look at at the ultimate return of Kyrie Irving who has a very good relationship with Nico Harrison Nico believes in this brother and we all should The man is a champion and a marvelous basketball player okay who’s been a model citizen in Dallas Let’s remind everybody that with all the noise that was going on in Brooklyn that was not the case That has not been the case in Dallas with Kyrie Irving You couldn’t ask for a a better person and a better leader if you’re the Dallas Mavericks according to them and I believe them So you have that going on right why would you want to leave you would want to leave because new ownership is taken over Mark Cuban is no longer there And evidently you know what you’re not feeling good about the direction of the franchise in terms of its leadership up top because it certainly isn’t personnel It isn’t personnel especially with Coopa Flag coming there and what have you Also you got to take into consideration um you got Jaylen Brunson Jason Kidd is familiar with this kid Um you know Worldw Wild West and Leon Rose Jason Kidd has known these people And for better or worse Dolan ain’t going anywhere and Leon Rose ain’t going anywhere So the level of continuity that you’re talking about uh is something that you have to take into consideration And as as cool as Jason Kid and Nico seem to be it would also provoke questions about what Nico Harrison’s future may be in Dallas as well and how Jason Kid may be eyeing that because from a personnel standpoint there’s no reason for him to leave Dallas Yeah Speaking of personnel Keith I want to come to you on this Do you feel like Jason Kid puts New York over the top with this same roster is he that much of a step up from Tibido um being playing for JK I’m I’m not really sure if he’s that much of a Stephaner Tibido They both are great coaches but I think that the other side of the basketball like being connected to the players I think that side means a lot And I think uh what what Wendy said you know the relationship between JK and JB obviously he had him as a rookie and he kind of built him up I think that’s more important than actually like putting them over top cuz both of these coaches are great coaches Don’t get me wrong J kid you know uh was just in a Eastern Conference Western Conference finals last year He went to the finals Uh War Wendy like Wendy said the guys are both great coaches I don’t think that it puts either one over top but JK has all his all his tools in Dallas So for me I really don’t think the move would be smart because obviously you know everything You you’re comfortable with the system It’s your system You you’ve been there a couple years and I just think you push forward with that It’s a good reminder though that they had Jaylen Brunson as a rookie Go ahead That’s where I was going That’s where I was going Jason Kidd relationship Jason Kidd had Jaylen Brunson And you have to remember this very very important Luca got hurt that year in the postseason And it was Jaylen Brunson primarily who carried them to the Western Conference Finals I wonder who and Giannis would be more interested in playing with but we don’t have time for that right now because we have folks waiting for us Bobby Marks listed the 10 teams and you have to call a guy That’s the whole point uh to watch for the off seasonason Notable teams mentioned are the Celtics Bucks Warriors Lakers and the Spurs Stephen A which team’s future is most on the line in the offseason wow I didn’t know about this question I mean could y’all put that back up see that again i need to see that back up I didn’t know I was going to be asked this question but put that back up Let me see I’m just trying to keep you on your toes I appreciate it because a lot of changes could happen to watch this summer A lot of change should happen You know what i’m going to keep my eye Which team’s future is on the line Stephen A The most like we’re saying that Milwaukee Bucks okay You lose Giannis You don’t have a future You don’t really have a future unless you get some major assets I would tell you the Phoenix Suns as well because of what assets are you going to get in return of Ke Kevin Durant You’ve got to make sure Ishb has now hired a new coach First of all keep a coach for a change Don’t get rid of this one after one year Okay but I’m I’m going to lay off Ishbia All right we had a nice conversation I’m going to lay off him for now We going to look at what they do You look at Kevin Durant Call Ishbia and say good night Yeah I might do that Then you got to look at it You got to look at Kevin Durant and you got to say then call LeBron right now What are you going to never Well you got to you got to you got to sit up there and you got to look at what are you going to get for Kevin Durant it’s important So I would tell you Milwaukee and Phoenix are my two top teams with that question Wendy All right Wendy I want you to expound upon this Where are you let’s pull up the list one more time And this is not in any particular order obviously guys It’s just so much potentially happen uh this off season It’s actually an alphabetical order now that I look at it Wendy where are you are you Milwaukee Phoenix or or somewhere different yeah my answer is Milwaukee which is crazy Molly because it was the same answer a year ago because I thought if Milwaukee did not have a really good year this year that Giannis would be gone And not only did they not have a good year but they had a catastrophic injury to his running mate Giannis’s running mate with that terrible injury that Dame Willard had in the playoffs which is just still upsetting And so you would think that the Bucks would be in terrible position but Giannis has not asked for a trade yet and Giannis left and went overseas And look I don’t I’m not going to sit here and try to guess at his private thoughts but my guess would be if he was going to ask for a trade he would do it in person And so I don’t think a trade request is forthcoming in the short term And look at what the Bucks have on their plate guys They have Bobby Portoris who can opt out of his contract That’s a very important player they got to deal with They got Brook Lopez who’s a free agent They got Gary Trent who was a key player for them at various points down the stretch of the season Free agent They got to figure out who they’re going to bring in to replace Damen Lillard because they need somebody to play that position and they’re looking at an Eastern Conference where some of the other teams are having some issues right now So they are a fascinating team right now 100% Wendy let me switch gears here really quickly because what else is fascinating is the te the state of Texas So we’ve got three teams out there right but I want to focus in on the Rockets and the Spurs All are exciting Who has the better outlook next season would you go Rockets or Spurs today I’m saying Rockets They just finished second They have a terrific head coach They’ve got a bunch of assets I know who they’ve got They They will be a contender right with the Oklahoma City Thunder next year But ask me again on about July 8th Molly because the Rockets have a whole bunch of options that they can do between now and then to upgrade this roster And the same for the Spurs The Spurs have two lottery picks and a bunch of contracts that are very tradable They’ve got the uh they’ve got Stefan Castle who maybe they don’t trade at all but if they were willing to trade they could do just about anything in the market for him Plus they have flexible uh salary structure they could be a team that is dramatically better in the next four to six weeks So it’s a fascinating question that’s going to keep evolving Well most importantly about the Houston Rockets look at what’s happening around you just in the state of Texas alone The Mavs are coming back The San Antonio Spurs can improve Tieleman Fertitta and his crew cannot stand still Now Emma Udoka is one of the best coaches in the NBA this brother something special when everybody when Jay Williams brought up the you know brought up uh what about the New York Knicks reaching out to Houston right I got a text you don’t have enough they said you could you couldn’t pay us enough email you do ain’t going anywhere you said I I got that text message he’s not going away okay and damn right they should they should hold on to him for dear life because that man is a hell of a coach but to me Wendy it’s about that Jaylen Green listen the brother is young and ultra talented Molly he seems a bit distracted Okay the focus doesn’t need to You haven’t seen a focus on his game where he has gotten exponentially better They needed him in the play There was four games the brothers scored single digits with that talent Single digits Single digits against Golden State Really i mean that’s just panicking That’s just dear in headlights kind of stuff And you if you’re Houston with the changes that are going on with the Wild Wild West being what it is with the inordinate amount of teams that are in legitimate positions to compete you can’t afford to stand still They need a professional to they need somebody like KD They need somebody like Giannis They need some one guy one guy for Eay Udoka to evolve everything around Give him that one star That brother can get everything you need out of everybody else But the face cannot be Jaylen Green He’s just not ready yet He’s just not ready yet Wendy did you want to respond to that i think you look at the contract that the Rockets gave to Jaylen Green They gave him a big contract for a short period of time The reason they did that is they don’t know whether or not he’s going to genuinely be a star in this league Look at the actions over the words And so they don’t know whether they should construct half their roster around him And I still don’t think they know that They don’t know it Molly And they just they look at him Molly and they go like this There’s a difference between belief and trust They believe in his talent But you give people a long-term deal when you trust them Of course when you trust that they’ll be 100% Wendy before we go to break here really quick one of the areas I’m trying to work in my life is patience You know we’re all trying to evolve as human beings and I have no patience for this NBA off Like when are we going to have answers to this stuff the NBA offseason is going to happen faster than normal Okay Um she she’s she’s working on patience with you Stephen A That’s what she said with that Um no I wasn’t talking about you but when I did read the Mel Robbins book Let Them I did think of you Okay I think the majority of the action in this off season is going to occur around the draft Typically we get most of the action between June 30th and about July 3rd I think this year because it’s not really a free agent year It’s gonna and there’s going to be Molly potentially there’s going to be three or four picks in the lottery that might be available might be movable Teams moving out teams moving up teams moving back and so that’s going to be attached to bigger deals So let’s put it this way Shams has cleared his calendar and he’s preparing to work his hardest around the draft and and we are going to go right from the NBA finals into the free agent uh into the off seasonason headlong You’re gonna get your action very soon Trust me I love it Looking forward to it We’re gonna be live at the top of the hour You can say one thing Hold on With Shams and
