Celtics Trade Rumors: Is Jrue Holiday About to be Traded?!

Celtics Trade Rumors: Is Jrue Holiday About to be Traded?!

it’s time for Hold My Banner I hope you guys recognize the voice for episode 137 because Casey Hudson alongside Ae Campbell promised I was going to crash this party again And as a matter of fact I’m not only crashing this party today I’m crashing this party all week long So how excited are you to have me back me and all my flare and opinions and all the goods I’m I’m super excited And I already yelled at Travis last week and said when I’m on the show with Casey I’m going to give you a phone call and everything like that So I shouted you out cuz I was ready for this week It’s going to be a great week of Hold My Better for sure See and at least this time I’m not crashing the party and giving Travis a hard time I haven’t heard too many opinions where I feel like uh I got to harp on what he said or kind of negate anything that he brought to hold my banner But no I’m excited You guys make this show so much fun Yeah we do We have a lot of fun We last time we went off yelling about Tyrese’s Hallebert I think I’m going to keep it a little bit more civil this time Um you know I was out this weekend and he had to yell over some loud music So I’m going to try to keep my voice you know what I mean so I can talk to you on Thursday as well Protect the vocals Protect the vocals Although he’s done some things that we should probably get a little loud about but we’ll get to that eventually We’ve got that coming in Um but of course because it’s Boston because it’s Celtics here on Hold My Banner we’ve got to dive deeper into all things Boston Celtics We got to revive some hope We got to bring some clarity to some situations and this time of the year what’s the biggest situation it’s trade rumors Who potentially could be coming through that Bostononian door and who might be on their way out And I’ve heard you and Travis’s takes on this I’ve heard the hot takes I’ve heard the not so hot takes Travis likes to be Caliente as he puts it But um Drew Holiday is a big name outside of Porzangis that seems to be popping up on the chopping block Um look Jake love your last name It seems exotic I’m not gonna butcher it on hold my banner We wineback Wine I’m I’m gonna say Wineback I’m I’mma go with Wineback Jakey man So our dude Jake here mentioned the Clippers Kings Mavericks should be regarded as the top landing spots for Drew Holiday this off season There’s growing belief that the twotime NBA champion will be moved by the start of next season with Boston determined to reduce its payroll We know that this payroll has got the Celtics in a complete chokeold Yeah Um I was leaning more towards the movement of Porzingis but I can understand the flattery and potential in terms of picks and value of player in return if you move a guy like Holiday off the board but where where do you stand on this in terms of Drew Holiday being in the in the move yeah I mean obviously it’s one of those things that I’ve been saying second apron like I work in the like I’m a chef and I work in the kitchen Like I I’ve been saying it so often that it’s almost like I need to get a job second job doing that you know uh it’s one of those things where you’re looking at the roster and you’re looking at Tatum being out for the year JB still waiting to get surgery Is he going to get it is he not going to get it we don’t know You know what I mean playing this game And you’re looking at two guys who make $30 million next year who did not play extremely well throughout this playoff series You look at a Drew Holiday and you look at a Chris Esportzing Last episode Travis and I talked a lot about KP trade possibilities and possible you know landing spots and potential deals and guys we would get back and all that other stuff We explored that This episode you and I are going to explore Drew Holiday here And you know the teams that are coming up here Clippers Mavericks Kings could all be teams that give something back to the Boston Celtics that they really need Another thing that’s really been brought up during this time as well which I wanted to bring up to you is that the Boston Celtics are also reportedly seeking a first round pick for Drew Holiday in return in his return So it’s one of those things where you have to get something back that’s going to be young and vital and ready to play when Jason Tatum comes back in 26 27 next year Punt I I know Celtics fans are gonna hate hate me for saying that but if you really want to rebuild and be ready to win another championship you have to bring young guys in younger They don’t have to be 19 You know what I’m saying they could be Jason Tat south of 34 though right they could be Jason Tatum young You know what I mean they could be a 25 and we’re still calling him Oh my god I can’t believe he’s 18 You know how Boston did that for forever Oh my god I can’t believe he’s 18 You know what I’m saying times have changed Yeah exactly Tatum’s an older guy now but we could get a Jason Tatum young guy and get them used to Joe’s system and get him them ready to play with some of the other role players with the Peyton Pritchard with the Sam Hower if they end up keeping him with a Baylor Sherman you know what I mean those kind of guys you can get them ready to get the movement going for the future So I I am all for trading Drew Holiday It hurts me to say it It hurts me to say it Even my mom was like “Oh my god I can’t believe you keep saying a trade Drew.” And it’s like you know she’s disappointed Yeah Everyone’s disappointed because it’s it’s hard because he’s a veteran that’s gave so much to the city of Boston Gave them a championship in a 16-year drought You know what I mean did a lot of things from on the floor and off the floor to help this team mature and get better as a basketball team But at this point in his career he’s older He’s obviously aging having a lot of injuries hamstring injury He had the mallet finger towards the end of the season Um we want to be able to move forward and be able to be a team that’s going to compete for a championship and Drew with a $30 million contract next year just doesn’t make sense for this team Yeah Well we talked about it with Porzingis the last time I crashed the party here on Hold My Banner If injuries are something that seem to be maybe a reoccurring event or something that you can’t bring a a solve of solvable resolution to it’s better to make that money available and move on beyond that player And that’s just from the business aspect of it That’s not taking away from what they’ve meant to the team what they’ve meant to this city So that’s where I’m okay with the departure of Holiday I mean of course I’m new here but I’ve heard about the number of injuries that have taken place and unfortunately the timing of those injuries It’s taken him out of crucial games and moments where you needed a Drew Holiday in your lineup So I feel like from the business perspective it makes it more of like a we love you we appreciate you thank you for what you brought to the table but with the uncertainties we need to make sure 30 million plus is going to actually be on the court versus on the bench But I’m glad that you pointed out the first round pick potential because of course when I saw this in the notes I’m thinking to myself does this bring reality to I hate to do it you know I don’t want to do it Does this bring reality to the to the freaking Cooper flag conversation because one of those teams named there Clippers Kings and Mavericks We already know how I feel about the Mavericks and that’s just me trying to be dramatic with what little drama I have in my life But is is there a more re realistic path here if they’re looking for a first round draft pick in the mix of all this look I remember when I sat here at the same Well I was maybe sitting over there where you’re sitting right now It’s different stool but you know it’s one of those things where I sat there with you on Boston at the chat the day of the Luca Don and Anthony Davis trade and I told you that it was a lose-lose trade right and you know I look kind of right right now I look kind of right right now You know what I’m saying flowers But you know when that trade happened it opened up reason for Nico to look desperate He lucked into the first pick So now he has an opportunity to have AD Kyrie and a Cooper flag together I think he’s doing anything possible to keep that group together I don’t think a Drew Holiday moves the needle I think it would have to be a guy like a Jason Tatum and a Drew Holiday or Jaylen Brown and a Drew Holiday and not a Well maybe we do Holiday and Porzingis Just send them both there Yeah I wish But I I don’t think there’s going to be any validity to that I love that you’re asking me and having the conversation with me about that but I did want to talk about more of these other two teams that you were talking about the Mavericks I’m kind of washing them out of this deal only because I don’t think Boston really wants to help them out and I don’t think they’re going to come off of anything that’s really potent Yeah You know what I mean that would help the Celtics you know what I’m saying because they see themselves as a championship level team right the Kings and the Clippers also see themselves as teams that should be contending Right Right Um but the I will add though Kings don’t have a first round pick to offer which makes them a little less attractive in this conference Exactly That’s a big thing for them They don’t have that available to them And the Clippers look at themselves as a contender Right But they would be willing to part because they’re a team that’s desperate A team that’s a franchise that’s never won an NBA championship You know what I’m saying so when you’ve never won before and you have an opportunity like I said with the Boston Celtics to get Drew Holiday that same type of opportunity that the Clippers now have to get a championship pedigree two-time NBA champion at this point you know what I mean and the guy who was third or fourth best you know what I mean and every single champion with the with the in the I mean excuse me with the Milwaukee Bucks he was the second best player you know what I mean in that NBA championship run With the Celtics last year he was probably about the third or fourth best player But still when you have that opportunity to bring somebody in who’s won at that level you’re going to take that opportunity if you’re a team that’s never won So the Clippers do intrigue me a little bit I would say if I had to rank these three teams in terms of who I would want to get a deal done with and how realistic they would actually give us something good in return I would probably go Clippers Mavericks Kings So Clippers one Mavericks uh two and then Kings third All right I don’t hate that And I’m I’m glad that you pointed out the order in which is most appealing because kind of like you said it’s got to make sense with the Mavericks They’re not probably the most attractive team right now in terms of how to do business cuz of course certain moves speak volumes for where your head’s at but that can also put them in a better position to be pressure pointed differently sticking with the Clippers for a second because of course to your knowledge in comparison it felt like some of the guys that could be tradable in this sense or coming up on uh being a free agent this summer they were kind of up there in age So could this be a veteran presence and basketball IQ trade for veteran presence basketball IQ and health would that still make it make sense to kind of inject them into this Celtics roster and yeah you know and not shake things too much and not be too costly but we’re not talking first round picks We’re just talking about experience to kind of tip the needle a little Yeah I think we’re familiar with the phrase retool because the Bruins you know what I mean we love to say retool We never say rebuild Bruins you use the word you know use the term retool instead of rebuild you know and I think this is actually one of those cases where the Celtics are and should be retooling They’re not rebuilding They have Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown on the roster still and Derek White You know what I’m saying those three guys they’ve already said they’re not trading They will be here in the Boston Celtics jersey next season right two of them may or may not play at all One of them definitely will and Derek White Um and so I think when you have those three guys right who you expect to be at allar or budding all-star level going into that 26 27 season you have to be able to get some guys who are like I said earlier a little bit early younger younger but not young You know what I’m saying i don’t need a 20-year-old but maybe a 25 year old Maybe a 26 27 maybe a guy who’s already in their prime You know what I mean like a DJJ out of you know UNLV I’m talking draft I’m already thinking about the draft We’re a couple couple weeks away out of UNLV He hasn’t played at UNLV in years But you know having a DJJ or some guys like that maybe even a Norman Pal I don’t know how much you know the Clippers would want to get off a guy like that who had an all-star level season for them last year Um for a Drew Holiday Maybe they value you know what I mean some of the things that a Drew Holiday brings more than they do a Norman Pal and maybe they feel like they can get that elsewhere for somebody else or get that production elsewhere So if those guys are the ones that we’re talking about and available and maybe a firstround pick which I I think is overzealous I think we’re if we’re talking about a a developed player and a first round pick for Drew Holiday and 30 and his $30 million contract I think a lot of people are going to shut the door and you know click the phone real quick on that one Um so you know it is what it is But if I could get one of those two guys you know for Drew Holiday in return I might be excited you could entertain it a little bit more Yeah All right All right Well you perfectly put together a list here about potential replacements for the Celtics amid the trade rumors Um of course Ryan St dude Ryan That’s what I’m going to go with You’re right Right Right Everybody’s our dude Ryan Stano Yeah Some interesting names on this list and I I want you to lay it out how it would make the most sense I’m going to read out the list for a second So Marcus Smart which I’ve first of all his return to Boston I read and I heard there was mixed emotions There were fans that were just like “Ah he should have never not been here.” And other fans were just like “You can go bro Don’t forget to grab the last of your remaining items if you missed them.” Uh Mike Connley look North of 35 is not an appealing situation in my personal eyes Um but look Timberwolves you guys know I was rooting for them until I was devastatingly disappointed in them and we’ve moved on Damen Lillard that’s a no for me in all caps And Fred Van Fleet Van Fleet Um that’s where the highlighter came out for me and I gave that an extra marking And then Payton Pritchard uh who wants to be here clearly I mean he wanted a bigger role on this team He’s vocalized that he had some moments of stepping up where you could have entertained the idea of him being uh accountable for a larger role But we just have too many too many question marks in terms of when Tatum comes back can Brown be that guy and so on and so forth So out of this list what jumped out at you yeah I mean I’ll run through it as well with you You know the Marcus Smart I I quickly turned down You know I That’s how I thought you were going Well here’s the thing You know I love what Marcus Smart did here in Boston but there were also the times like you said which made fans conflicted where there was a lot of basketball moments where it’s like okay bro like JT and JB are the guys right you know like we don’t need you dribble dribble dribble dribble dribble for 10 seconds of the shot clock We need you to get the ball to Tatum and get in the corner and be ready to accept that role That’s what made Drew Holiday so special here in Boston that he was like I don’t got to play point guard I’m cool with that You know what I mean he gets in the dunker spot He stands in the corner and watches He’ll be involved in actions as well but he understood how to pick his spots Marcus Smart didn’t Then he went off to Memphis and he’s been hurt and not really playing winning basketball when he is available So I’m not sure where Marcus Smart is mentally If he would be gracious enough to come back to Boston and accept that okay this is JT and JB’s ship I’m not the player that I used to be Let me play some defense make a couple shots here and there and get out the way Or is he going to come back and he’s going to be in familiar territory and say “Okay now I can get back to playing my game because I don’t have John Moran I don’t have this and I don’t have that.” I love that point out right so it’s one of those things where you got to be really mindful of the psyche of a market smart Now Mike Connley it would be a a salary dump kind of deal right when you’re talking about an older player like that who’s on an expiring deal 10 million this would be getting under that second apron I know I’m saying it again put my chef hat on but get get back to cooking right getting under the second apron That would exactly be that move right is hey we’re punting on next year This is a guy that’s cheap We can help out um Minnesota Maybe they want to up they see it as an upgrade and they want to get that guard back with Drew Holiday as an upgrade we’ll take on the Mike Connley contract and we’ll you know go and you know let him sunset and then go off to wherever he wants to go or maybe trade him at the trade deadline for something else for a team that is looking to be a contender or something and help him out help that team out and they can help us out as well right then when you look at Damen Lillard no I’m I’m out I’m out I’m out Hard no I’m hard no on it I you know it would be a okay yeah we’re planning on next year but then we have that you know three-headed monster of Damen Lillard JB and JT and I just don’t see with two guys coming off an Achilles injury hoping that both of them can come back and be allstar level players again I don’t really see that one so I’m completely out that’s dead last dead last I know I haven’t been putting them in order but that’s that’s dead last then you got Fred Van Vleet I kind of like that I haven’t been a huge fan of what Fred has done with the Houston Rockets and that’s only because I felt like he was holding back their youth progression but with this he would understand his role like back when he played with Toronto with Kawhai and Pascal Seakum he was the third guy you know what I mean on this team he would be the third guy on this Celtics team and I think he would star in that role just like he did in Toronto and then Peyton Pritchard I mean I love Peyton I don’t know if he’s going to be on the roster because he is a positive asset and he’s making next to nothing in in terms of NBA contracts go at least So when you’re looking at a guy who’s six man of a year and he’s making 10 million or seven million a year you know it’s one of those things where hey if we got to get rid of a Drew we might have to package you know a Peyton Pritcher or if we’re getting rid of KP we might have to package a Peyton Pritcher to make the deal just a little bit more enticing for those other teams He would be a great player to you know see step up but I I never tracked him as a starting guard I think he’s really really good Really really good As a backup guard obviously the best six-man in the league but as a starting guard I think he’d probably finish dead last You know what I mean as far as starting guards go and and that’s okay You know what I mean so I if I’m going to rank the list really quickly because I know we have to move on I’m going to go uh Fred as one Yep I’m going to say Mike Connley as two because of the salary dump I’m gonna say Payton as the third option and then I would go Marcus Smart and then Damen Lillard dead last I don’t hate that actually I agree with you on that one At least we kept Fred at the top Look like I said Connley can bring something to the table but the the term how long he can bring something to the table would be the biggest question mark there Regardless you make the best point possible Somebody’s got to be able to plug into this especially without Tatum being in the mix especially trying to figure out what Brown’s going to bring to the table next year certainty in whatever pieces end up joining this Celtics roster Let us know who you would want who you don’t want who you think would be a fit who would know their role But it’s time for us to go to a quick break here on Hold My Banner On the other side we talk Thunder Pacers and some guys that truly know their role as they chase down a championship Don’t go anywhere Join us on the other side of this quick break Hold my banner Casey Hudson and Ente Campbell running through the potential Boston Celtics roster Some trade rumors being addressed putting to bed some of that Cooper flag conversation that some of us love to entertain so much but a great conversation that we want to get you guys’ scope and opinion on But moving on we’ve got championship basketball being played And I emphasize championship because we’ve got a Thunder versus Pacers series that is tied 1-1 Game three going down tomorrow night Okay we know that at this time of the year my life is consumed by hockey Yes But what I will admit here on hold my banner and not just for fans or flattery is that I have had to dip in and switch over to NBA to see what the heck is going on because I was entertained by the Pacers getting to this spot I was entertained by SGA and the Thunder And look of course I was rooting for the demise of the Knicks which is even more why I wanted to watch some of these finals But what have you made of the first two games thus far did you expect the series to even be tied off 1-1 um because I know a lot of fans didn’t have this going down through game three Yeah I was definitely not expecting a game one win from the Pacers If anything maybe a game two win Um I was under the assumption that the every single game was going to be a battle because of what I’ve seen from the Pacers what I know about their head coach Rick Carile and their ability to come back and fight and stay and claw in every single basketball that they game that they get into But you know the series I think is going to continue to go kind of like how the Stanley Cup series went I was going to say it’s mirroring it That’s why I had to watch Like you’re talking about clawing and coming back That’s been the identity of the two hockey teams right now So yes I saw the similarity Exactly So is it I was not expecting like you said not expecting at all 1-1 going into Indiana but you know I am sitting here and you know my prediction before the series started was Thunder and five Oh And I I was like I could see six I could see six because the Pacers and Rick Carile and they’ll have the game Hallebertton will have maybe I don’t know but he might have the one game where he scores 30 and 10 and you know whatever they just have that game where they’re clicking really well and shooting the basketball really well But I’m more thinking kind of like uh 2012 NBA Finals which is the one that the Thunder won game one against the Miami Heat and then lost four straight to LeBron James to that and uh Dwayne Wade’s team So I’m kind of feeling like after especially after I wasn’t nervous after watching game one Let me just say preface that I wasn’t nervous That didn’t change your mind Game one didn’t But after watching the Thunder finish it out the right way in game two and be in control of both games it’s kind of like how I was saying with the Celtics in the Knicks series I wasn’t nervous because I knew who the Celtics were and their pedigree and they were to lose to give up a 20point lead you have to be up 20 You know what I’m saying so for the same thing for the Thunder here for them to be up 15 and give up a 15-point lead you have to give up a 15-point lead You have to be up 15 So it’s one of those things where the Pacers are a really good team but the Thunder are just deeper and it comes down to that Yeah So okay let’s break this down for a second because of course game one came down to uh I almost saying Hallebertton again Yeah It came down to Hallebertton Hallebertton having that monstrous perfectly timed jumper 3 seconds left on the clock and then takes over game one Game two comes about SGA does what we’ve seen him do throughout the season You put up 34 points throw the whole team on your back with a smile on your face and you call it a W Game three how do we get a equally as as exciting game one would say but we know that the Pacers have the ability to come back We saw them kind of force the Thunder into their game structure in the fourth quarter regardless of what the score was by nearly a 10-point margin all throughout Yeah it’s those final moments that count the most And we saw kind of this flip and flop and we haven’t seen the Thunder be that uncomfortable throughout uh the playoffs So seeing as how the Pacers had the ability to create that discomfort in game one game two being what it was could they bring that back in for game three because they’re known for their pace Uh they’re known for kind of having that sneaky fourth quarter uh because we saw them do it a number of times leading up to this final So could we see a more interesting game three i think you know I was talking to some Pacers fans I was talking to some Thunder fans as I nor normally do in a series like this and you know what I came to my conclusion after talking to everybody and watching both of these games is that you’re there’s going to be that Pacers run at the beginning of game three Indiana’s going to be loud Everyone’s going to be wearing their shirts which I love that both of these teams make their fans wear their shirts right everyone’s going to be it’s going to be a sea of yellow We’re going to get that zoom out you’re going to hear that crowd pop a timeout from Mark Dagno or whatever The Thunder have to withstand that run If they don’t withstand that run they’ll lose game three But but I am predicting to you right now Casey Hudson that this Thunder team will withstand that run and go off to win this game Is there a way that the Pacers can make this one interesting yeah I just told you earlier they have to be able to make shots If they’re shooting the three at a 40 to 45% clip as a team this could be a game that can get really murky for this Thunder team because they’re a team that doesn’t really match up threes with the Pacers output of threes True But they did it in game two and you saw what happened They blew them out But 14 threes isn’t enough if you’re the Pacers If you want to win this game if you want to win this series you have to get into that 18 to 20 to 25 range if you want to know that you’re going to walk away with a win So if the Pacers can do that which is a tall task it’s not easy because this Thunder team is one of the best teams in the league defensively but if they can match that output which they did against the Knicks they did against the Cavs they did against the Bucks they can win game three Yeah See that’s okay Not to be like weird in terms of analogies here but like aliens just have or aliens pacers have this like they are they’ve been acting like that’s where I was going with that They have this alien nature to them Like you know when you see cloning happen after playing a team and falling short or being defeated no matter what the score may be You just have a tendency to see the Pacers come back and blueprint what just beat them Like am I exaggerating with that but that’s where I was going with the whole alien comment that just jumped out Right I mean it’s it has been you know a magical run I mean I don’t know you know what you call it I think a lot of people gave the Pacers you know hell last year and said “Oh the Celtics had a cakewalk and the Pacers aren’t this and the Pacers aren’t that.” But I mean I quickly had Celtics fans remind me of the fact that like Jaylen Brown had to hit a gamewinner in that series you know they they were down big in a game had to come back and you know win a game against the Pacers last year The Celtics had to do some dark voodoo magic or alien whatever you want to call it themselves to beat the Pacers last season And we just chocked it up as the Celtics being that great and the Pacers not being that good This year obviously they’re kind of flipping the script and didn’t have to run into the Celtics luckily for them because you know whatever They unfortunately lost to the Knicks But that I bring up that point because the Pacers are are doing special things and have been doing them since going back to last year So if they can keep that voodoo magic because we talked about Tyrese Hallebertton in the last episode and I was getting loud as I told you before with Travis Thomas yelling at him talking about Tyrese’s Halen ain’t this he ain’t that Lou Lou Dors going to do this and this and that Not and he he was that he was the guy that I thought he was for the first half of both game one and game two He was uninspiring But guess what tyrese Hallebertton has that clutch gene And in both game one and game two he just didn’t finish it out in game two He had explosive fourth quarters And even more so he really put the stamp on the final moment of the game in game one So if he is once again if you’re asking me about Pacers chances he has to be aggressive It’s been talked about from you know early on He can’t be one for five at halftime Yeah He can’t be two for five at halftime He can’t take five shots I don’t care if he’s five for five at halftime He’s got to shoot 10 shots in the first half of this game in order to get his team going Whether they go in or they don’t go in he’s been a special player for them on the offensive end and his scoring will really open up his ability to facilitate And when he had that game against the Knicks where he had 30 points and 15 assists and no turnovers it was all because he was aggressive from the onset Yeah And we’ll talk about his MVP potential performances and if his team has a chance he has to be the MVP for the Pacers But kind of touching back to something else that you just said because you mentioned the fact that shooters got to shoot uh Thunder’s edge defensively but we did see a big defensive effort at the end of that first game there And we saw a lot of great things out of uh Seakum a guy who was helping block shots I mean timely key shots and then more importantly grabbing rebounds that you just kind of saw OKC sitting back almost anticipating that it was their rebound and he made sure to let them know it’s not yours it’s ours and we’re going to add some points to this rebound as well Correct Say he comes in and come and and comes up strong with a performance like that yet again say that they can go toe-to-toe defensively and hold off the shooting Is it going to come down to who has the stronger defensive performance if these two teams kind of know that both teams can get shots off yeah I think it’s going to come down to the guy who won MVP Honestly they haven’t found a way to slow him down at all You know shout out to Shay but he’s been all world We talked about it You know the most points of any player in NBA history in their first two finals appearances right so 72 points in his first two games like you said 34 in game two 38 in game one They just didn’t happen to get the win If they’re going to be able to you know make this game interesting it’s going to come down to the fact that hey they shut down two If you don’t shut down two it’s going to be a long night once again So you know it is what it is You know what I did want to say about this whole entire game and this experience is man what like a special two cities to get this NBA finals in their building because like I said the fan energy the these people care deeply about their teams The if you go to Indiana you probably find a million Pacers fans out on the street just having a good time right now You go down to OKC and on their one main street that they got that runs down the middle of their city it’s a bunch of Shay jerseys check jerseys kids grandmas aunties uncles it don’t matter Everybody is outside excited and rooting for their team Two fan bases that have not really had any issues with you know being rude or anything like that Just basketball fanatics So I’m appreciative that both of these fan bases get an opportunity to see their team in the finals because it you know what happens next we don’t know but it’s been special so far I believe that I Good And good take too of the fact of like you can be a passionate fan without being an absolute insane fan And I feel like we’ve seen a lot of passion a lot of excitement and a lot of hope which I’m excited about the hope aspect I just I’m always here for more game So I’m here for this to go past five games Unfortunately against your prediction you What you saying you saying it’s going past five or what we talking Casey What you think i’m saying we could see six games here I think that the Pacers have to be able to steal one more because it’s just been their DNA leading up to this moment You know what I mean so uh basically what I was saying earlier too I was kind of crediting the fact yes I made a joke about the aliens and stuff but it’s more so the fact of like they have the capability of making the the game their own they have the capability of pushing you know one more game one more opportunity keeping things alive And when you have that that vibe about you it’s just like I don’t see the door closing as fast So just considering what they’ve done up to this point I I’m just Okay so let me get a let me get a score prediction What are you saying like a score prediction game three Yeah because look here’s the thing Yeah we’ll talk about game four next episode But game three can I get a score prediction cuz here’s my thing right m I think if the Thunder win game three and four it has you know they’re going to finish it out in game five I don’t think they’re going back to OKC and you know not celebrating on their home court right in their first NBA championship So I want to know for you like do you think they got a chance to win game three here then cuz I I don’t know if they go down 2-1 Pacers might you know shut down just a little bit especially if it’s another blowout like game two Yeah I So I do see hope for game three Okay And I’ll put this I’ll chalk this up to adjustments So their ability to make adjustments during the game were quite strong but to have that time to game plan and to make those adjustments ahead of time and to know how you would adjust throughout the game I think that they can keep this much closer than what we saw in game two There was obviously some some mess in game two Not taking away from SGA and company’s performance whatsoever but they kept it much closer in game one They have that capability The next thing and you could tell me if I’m wrong I feel like I saw the Pacers have the ability to mentally wear down and take out OKC in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter And when you can play that mental game it can swing any sort of way And when you’re closing out just as strong as you started so they’re not going to come into this focusing on putting up points and trying to dominate in the first I think that they’re going to try to go toe-to-toe knowing and being confident in their ability to take over in that second half of a game So again considering what they’ve done up to this point adjustments are everything when you’re talking about playoffs in any sport And that mental aspect that I feel like I saw at the end of game one I say 110 to talk to me I’m saying actually no no no I changed that 118 118 Okay Pacers 118 to one I almost want to say 118 117 I think one point narrow escape Pacers take game three So we’re getting more theatrics tonight or tomorrow night Fireworks right i want fireworks Okay I mean that’s fair I I’m pro I’m probably going back to blowout land Not blowout land But I think like what game two was I I I I’m going to go I’m going to go Thunder 121 Pacers 14 That’s what I’m going to go Okay I mean if it happened I don’t completely not blow out but I think they’re going to pull away Okay we’ll see I think they’re going to pull away We will see if if uh Hallebertton and his new shoes in those shoes can pull through clutch for game three Yet again let us know y’all’s opinion on whether or not the Pacers can continue to make this series interesting or whether OKC is just way too formidable And look SGA killing it with a smile on his face You can’t root against that I just want to see again the more games the better That’s what I always like and love when it comes to championship conversation But we’ll find out more about what and I like and love because we got wicked or kicked I feel like I always say that wrong Or maybe I need a better Bostononian accent on the other side of this break So don’t go anywhere Continue to hang out with and myself here on Hold My Banner Back at it with Hold My Banner Casey Hudson and Campbell We talked some Thunder versus Pacers Game three expectations Overall a great championship battle going back and forth as the series is now tied up 1-1 Um but look when we’re talking about greatness they say look good feel good is a big thing I can agree with it because when I feel like I look like a dumpster fire trash can um I actually don’t want to see people So it’s time for some wicked or kick it I want I don’t know why I want to keep saying wick it but it’s you know words whatever Boston now You got to you know you got a wicked nice fit on So I do And I thought we were going to be on the set where people could see my wicked nice fit because I was trying to fit in here um and try to show up and show out versus some of these NBA stars but they’ve got the money to have the closet I have the um Afterpay budget to try and make it work So walk us through some of this wicket or kick it in and outfits First up we got Lou Dort Uh shout out to OKC They’re in the finals We got a finals edition of Wicked or Kick It here Um shout out to League Fits for this photo Casey Hudson how do you feel about this fit is it wicked nice or are you kicking it to the curb this is wicked nice And I texted you immediately when I saw this and I was “Okay first of all anyone who hates it uh no We know how many times have I showed up in a denim tuxedo to work I think I have like 500 variations of a denim tuxedo So like just my pure love for this look alone The fact that you can go to my social media and see me trying to emulate this in a 100 different ways This is freaking wicked to me He’s got the studded belt to draw in some of the subtle jewelry If you don’t realize he’s got like three four necklaces on The one thing that I would kick though is like the purse You dude you don’t need the manag No I don’t even sponsored by Louis Vuitton So a bunch of these dudes give bread you know a little Louis V Okay Don’t care Don’t care That was too much Uh he tried to do Lenny Kravitz and I love me some Lenny but that’s too much Uh but the boots I think those look like suede You can always always always layer some suede on some denim So won me over with the denim tuxedo Lose the manbag All right So look the first day that you stepped into this office Travis Thomas and I told you that we were very musical very musical And so as soon as I see this fit it’s a it’s a almost a cowboy fit He is from Canada so this is a Canadian tuxedo He is from Canada so that is representing But when I see it I just baby lock them doors and turn them lights down low The fact that you got the lyrics on point soft and slow and Casey knows I don’t sing country no country songs but I do But I like this fit So yeah I’mma give him a This was wicked nice Uh I’mma give it a probably like a I like this one I’mma give it like a 8.5 out of 10 on the on the wicked scale I I I agree with you I probably dish the bag Um I personally don’t like studded belts and that’s why it didn’t get a higher level for me But I see how he’s trying to make it work You know it matches kind of with the pants The bag strap helps out to break break up some of that blue on blue So I mean he did he did a great job This isn’t a fit I could freak So I’mma just leave this one to Lou Dort but you know he’s been playing fantastic defense on Tyrese Tyler Burton too So he’s getting some extra points probably for that There we go The 8.5 I’ll give it a 9.2 but again I just got love for this If you lose the manbag maybe even the belt unbutton the shirt and then you’re giving me rugged cowboy which I’m all here for Uh moving on It sits in the cowboy category it being the flannel but this is very much not cowboy Run us through this look Yeah this is from Andrew Nimhard who actually we didn’t talk about much and we should have during game one because Well it’s my fault I He had that combo move that everybody was talking about Now every trainer is having the 5-year-old in the backyard working on the tween tween step back Yeah wait on that one All right Dad You can you can wait until he turns 14 for that move but you know shout out to him Shout out to the Patriots Shout out to League Fitz for this one Casey Husin what do you feel about this you know it’s very simple Yeah You know what I mean and I don’t I don’t hate simple He’s showing up ready to do his job I see the Louis Vuitton in in the mix again but you know what i’m a sucker for some Chucks and he layered it in with a flannel He said “I’m here to do work.” So I’ll give it a solid eight I don’t hate it I’m I’m on board for the simplicity of the look Yeah So taking you guys behind the curtain Casey Hudson knows I went back home to Los Angeles this weekend and um you know when I see this fit when I see the Chuck Taylor I see the flannel And Andrew Nimhard actually I don’t know why this must have just been pure coincidence but both of these dudes are from Canada He’s from Canada as well just like Lou Dort Um but he this is a very LA fit It’s a very Snoop Doggy dog I love that you can sing all the things I told you we’re very musical on this show Um so yeah I’m going to give this one uh Man this one’s got to be slightly better I can’t lie It’s got to be 8.6 out of 10 Definitely Wicked Nice Shout out to Andrew Nimhard for that one All right last up we got a non hooper This guy I saw him play in the celebrity game and it didn’t look very good But shout out to Kais that um and shout out to League Fitz for this fit He was courtside for game two wearing this one How do you feel about this one Casey dumpster fire I look I understand when we try to like make something fashionable right we’re seeing all kinds of things that at first glance you’re like “This should never have been a thing.” And it potentially grows on you as you look at it long enough I kept looking at it and looking at it and looking at it and I’m just like “No first of all something had to simplify itself here I would maybe be like okay with it between the furry hat the flannel around the waist uh the cargo pants but the Uggs dude like you really had to throw and not even like some cute looking Uggs Like you look like you got caught in the rain Maybe taking out the trash and something leaked on your Uggs but like you can’t be wearing monstrous Uggs on top of everything else that you have going on here So it’s just it’s too much He tried to do too much And unless you’re putting up numbers on the court this is a no in my book Kicking it Oh man it’s so funny that you say that cuz whenever I looked at this fit you know we’re in the world of terrible remakes of every movie Every movie that we love growing up is has a terrible remake now And I thought he was auditioning for a terrible remake of Full Runnings because he’s you know he’s got the dreads of course and then he’s got the hat on top I’m like are you getting ready i’m like are you getting ready to push the bob sled like you’re trying to warm up before you go out there to push the bobsled I know OKC ain’t that cold right now So I’m going to give this one a kick in as well I’m not rocking with it I’m gonna give this one like a 2.7 out of 10 And I’m only giving it that high because I like that you know I like the flannel that he has wrapped around his waist I like the pants but everything else is a no That tight shirt the dude behind him is like “Oh my god I can’t believe this dude wore this fit with him.” But I’m glad I’m in the picture Yeah it’s all bad This is kicky Okay I’m gonna sound horrible here but who would I be if I didn’t i’m gonna give it like a negative one And it’s because of the lady next to him That’s his girl I don’t care She should have brought correction to this situation See you and Travis are lock step You and Travis are lock step because Travis one time I showed off a fit of Gabrielle Union and um Dwayne Wade and D Way Oh no I think it was Chris Paul It was Chris Paul and his wife And Chris Paul was looking crazy And Travis was like “His wife should have got him right.” And you saying the same thing All right Go ahead Sorry lock and step because if if nothing else what are we responsible for sometimes not letting y’all walk out of the house looking crazy And they say in the beginning of every relationship what does a good woman do she teaches her man how to dress And I have been responsible for that in most of my relationships So yes he gets an extra notch down because she didn’t step in and correct this But guess what i took the negative to the next level because not only did she not say “Hey babe try again.” She tried to match him She’s got her tight white shirt and the tight tea and the flannel which has too many colors wrapped around her waist She failed him They failed each other And that is why they both are getting a kick it with a negative five But you know what i’m not even giving an A for effort Try again next time We got games to go and outfits to sort out But uh look I’m glad that you allowed me to be a part of Wicked and Kick It again We were in step for most of this for actually all of it Yeah In terms of what we liked and didn’t like Yeah It was just like to what extreme So Canadian tuxedo extra bump the west coast look You gave it the extra bump and then we both ditched uh the couple that maybe should have hung out at home But uh we got more on the other side of this last break coming up What guys what former Celtic players do and I think could be thrown in on this roster and maybe made a difference to help this Celtics team be in a championship versus a Pacers team i don’t know But you can find out on the other side of this quick break here on Hold My Banner Where did I go oh my god What What is this Casey this is terrifying That’s what this is Oh my god Uh can I can I get brought back to the show or I think production wanted to haunt me with my take on Kai The element of surprise is beyond surprise Jeez I still stand by what I said I said what I said Kai needs to go back to his closet and his lady needs to hold him accountable and not match him But speaking I’ll do the dressing He can do the talking He could take my job for a little bit No please don’t bring that man back in here Um speaking of accountability I think that when uh championships don’t run their course or do run their course you always look at the whatif moments and opportunities I teased that you and I were going to look at some former Celtics and see who we would plug into the lineup that could have potentially got us over the hump um and lifting and holding another banner So I’m going to make this quick We both picked three players My number one player Larry Bird I know I know my number two player Isaiah Thomas and my number three player Kevin Garnett My quick cases for each of these gentlemen First of all Larry Bird just did an interview Yahoo Sports picked it up breaking down the fact that he didn’t want to leave Boston He felt like his exit was early You guys know how I feel about players that want to play and be here and be ingrained and embedded into what their city and what their community is They play with their heart on the line They bleed out for that team for that community And I think that it speaks for itself Obviously too some comparisons to Larry Bird when it comes to modern day guys Luca Donic as well as uh Cooper Flag So when you’re considering the comparisons in modern day Larry Bird when you’re considering the comparisons though you’re talking about elite defense shooters that shoot We’ve talked about that when it comes to championship games So just kind of having that layer of accountability of a Larry Bird and what he brought to a team Look I’d bring him back inject him in and feel like there’s hope to be made for the Celtics going further than they did Isaiah Thomas my thing here there’s no quit in Boston I know that’s a song for a different city and everything else but this is a guy who is a dog and he bleeds for basketball to the fact that I don’t know when we’re going to ever see him stop playing basketball And when you talk about a guy right he’s never going to stop You talk about a guy that went through trauma and still decided to suit up and be there for his team and to put up freaking points like 25 plus statements uh on the back end of trauma a guy who bleeds for basketball We know that I love a gritty player We know that I love um an underdog you know not the most sizable guy on the court but he changed the game in terms of like what your frame has to be to make an impact in basketball And I know that too cuz I got two nephews that are big hoop heads And like look they’ve looked at the Stephen Curry and other guys to give them hope in that sense And I feel like Isaiah Thomas is a part of that conversation And postseason averages 17.7 assists You’re talking about a guy who knows his role dish it out or grab the points when you have the opportunity to get it And then Kevin Garnett I mean come on What do you have to say about this nothing Exactly It just speaks for itself So I threw that one in the pot Game six for his championship run 24 points 13 rebounds And look I love when you can do both rebounds and points You’ve got my vote So those are my three uh injected in my veins add it to the Boston Celtics roster and make an impact I I love those three I obviously have nothing wrong with your list I have a different three completely different do want to say before I tell you my three Larry Bird your accent was just at the right time Hey man I’m just He made a great case for Hey he’s a great he’s a great player Best Celtic of all time Top 10 NBA player of all time 100% But man his back was gone at at the end of his run and his knees and his Achilles or whatever He was out So I give you my quick three Shaq The reason that I say Shaq people are going to be mad at me because he you needed somebody in especially in that Knicks series who was going to just say “Hey throw the ball into me Slow this game down and I’m going to do what I going to do.” Shaq at the end of his career played for the Celtics but that one last year that he gave us those nine points a game in those 20 minutes that he played he was still a dominant force on the offensive end and he was getting one block a game That’s all I needed from a shack Slow the game down protect the rim That’s it That’s all this team needed They didn’t need that a lot You know what I mean just add a little spice in there All right So a old Shaq I’m taking it Two Raan Rondo One of my favorite point guards of all time This team needed a point guard We talked about Drew Holiday off the top and what his contributions did Rajan Rondo was that for a lot of the Boston Celtics team especially for the team in08 that ended up winning the NBA championship He would have brought that veteran leadership the defense the passing all of that stuff Obvious ad for him And then the last guy friend of the program Antoine Walker You want a guy who’s shooting threes at a high clip playing defense getting rebounds 69 fourman switchable This is KP in a smaller package at an earlier age right in an earlier time If he played in this era he would have shot the ball at an even higher clip than he did back then He was an elite shooter back then So Antoine Walker Rajan Rondo Shaquille O’Neal are my three Ooh I don’t hate it And aside from the fact that I see Shaq and obviously I see Orlando Magic where he got drafted to But that was the first I ever heard of his name around the time that I was born It was like Orlando Magic and Shaquille O’Neal But I do not hate it I’m here with it And um look I think either of these six would have helped the Celtics team because there was a number of times I felt like it was just too much focus on Tatum which of course your stars got to be your stars but you got to got that clutch gear out of a few other guys And we’ll see if the Boston Celtics can find that in the summer hunt working through uh their payroll issues and all the apron and cooking that will bring to the table Chef’s hat It’s a chef’s hat This has been Hold My Banner crashing the party all week but Casey Hudson alongside Campbell Until next time y’all we’ll see you back here on Hold My Banner Deuces

Is Jrue Holiday about to be traded… again? The buzz is real, and we’re diving into the top landing spots being rumored for the Celtics guard, including the Clippers, Kings, and Mavericks. Plus, who could Boston turn to if Holiday is dealt? We react to Sports Illustrated’s list of potential replacements, featuring names like Marcus Smart, Damian Lillard, and Fred VanVleet.

Then it’s all about the NBA Finals as the Thunder tie things up with the Pacers. Has the series been better than expected? Is Tyrese Haliburton showing he belongs among the NBA’s elite? And is SGA delivering the way a franchise player should? We break down Game 2, look ahead to Game 3, and revisit whether “Thunder in 5” is still on the table.

In Wicked or Kick It, we judge the latest NBA fits from Lu Dort, Andrew Nembhard, and Kai Cenat. If it’s fire, it’s wicked. If not, we’re kicking it to the curb.

To wrap it up, we each pick three former Celtics who could have made a difference on this year’s squad and debate how much impact they could’ve had on a Finals run.

All that and more in the latest episode of Hold My Banner, hosted by Kasey Hudson and Ountae Campbell.
