teacher talking sports what it does would do how we live the Philadelphia 76ers are scheduled to have the third overall selection in the 2025 NBA draft let’s take a look at the 76ers best draft picks in franchise history this includes their time as a Syracuse Nationals it’s not necessarily the 10 best players ranked in order as where they were selected were was taken into consideration the toughest omissions were Red Cerr and Ben Simmons uh I previously did this for the Mavericks who won the first pick and the Spurs who won the second pick um I’ll probably post the links in the description but anyhow let’s go in descending order starting with 10th Andrew Tony eighth overall 1980 tony was forced to retire at the young age of 30 due to foot issues during his eight seasons he was named to two all-star teams and averaged 18.6 points and four emphasis over a four-year stretch from 8182 until 8485 he won a championship with the 76ers in 1983 number nine Tyrese Maxi 21st overall 2020 still just 24 years old Maxi was named an all-star and the league’s most improved player in 2023 24 his scoring average has ri risen after each of his first five seasons up to 25.9 and 2023 24 and 26.3 and 202425 maxi is just one year through the five-year nearly $24 million deal uh for from when he signed resigned with Philadelphia eighth Andre Iguadala ninth overall 2004 iguadala played eight seasons for Philly and in five of the first six he played all 82 games in 2011 12 he was an all-star and the previous year he made the old defensive second team iguadala recorded eight triple doubles uh with the team seventh Cadet Walker 14th overall 1962 walker was a rookie with Syracuse and his next six seasons were with the Sixers he made three all-star teams with the franchise and average a double double in 6364 in 1967 he averaged 21.7 points in the playoffs during the Sixers Championship sixth billy Cunningham seventh overall 1965 playing nine seasons with the 76ers Cunningham was named an all-star four times each of those years he posted average of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds ducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1986 Cunningham was on their 1967 championship team fifth Maurice Cheeks 36th overall 1978 a superb backcourt defender cheeks made four all defensive first teams with the 76ers playing 11 seasons for the squad he remarkably averaged more than two steals in each of his first 10 years a four-time all-star cheeks won a championship with Philadelphia in 1983 fourth Joel Embiid third overall 2014 it’s unfortunate that Embiid has dealt with so many injuries in his career because very few have ever been as dominant as him when he has played he was the league’s MVP in 2022 23 and was a runner up in the previous two years embiid averaged more than 30 points per contest each season from 21-22 until 2023 24 howal Greer third 14th overall 1958 the franchise’s all-time leading scorer greer spent his first five seasons with the Nationals and last 10 with the 76ers he was the leading scoreer in the postseason during the 76ers 1967 championship run greer was named to 11 straight all-star teams and seven straight all NBA second team second Charles Barkley fifth overall 1984 known as the round mound of rebound Barkley spent his first eight seasons with the 76ers he made seven AllNBA teams while with them four first team three second team and finished top six in MVP voting six times he a le at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in each of his last seven years with Philadelphia and at top the list at first is Allan Iverson first overall in 1996 arguably the best pound-for-pound scorer iverson won four scoring titles with Philadelphia he was named MVP in 20201 a season he also helped guide the 76ers to the NBA finals iverson also led the league in steals three straight each seasons and his second in team history with 19,931 points so yes those are my top 10 76ers draft picks in franchise history let me know in the comments you agree disagree uh as I mentioned previously did it for Mavericks and Spurs who are picking first and second Sixers third you know we’ll see i’m probably not going to do every team maybe I’ll do more i just you know I’ I’ve enjoyed um doing the research involved to make these top 10s and they’re certainly not easy but I find them fun uh but you know we’ll see how many more I do if anymore uh but again really enjoyed it and you know 76ers had a lot of good draft picks uh each of these guys definitely welldeserving to be on here anyhow don’t forget to subscribe tell a friend tell a friend tell a friend to subscribe like the video share video hit the buff notifications amount
