NBA Cares + Thunder Cares Community Legacy Project | NBA Finals 2025 | OKC Thunder

as part of the legacy project that the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder and Emirates have awarded us with um we have a new wonder room and it is wonderful um the kids are already calling it the Thunder Wonder Room and um it has everything from a steam room to a mindfulness area a booknook um some games technology um just all kinds of things that our kids need and it’s it’s just colorful and fun and kid-friendly and amazing welcome everybody good afternoon my name is Journey i am the youth of the year here at the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County yeah I’ve been here for over 12 years the Boys and Girls Club here is not too far from my community i am you know born and breathe from the east side of Oklahoma City it’s not too far from them kids that might be in troubling neighborhoods and this could be a safe haven to them my mom she is a cancer survivor as a young child I wasn’t able to express myself and when I came here it was able to bring me back out you know to talk about how I was feeling express my emotions and everything 3 2 1 there’s nothing more important that the NBA does than these kinds of events a lot of our NBA players wouldn’t be where they are today and by the way that includes WNBA players if they didn’t have a community center like that not just as a place to play basketball but as a place to where there were adult leaders coaches teachers that strength of the community and you feel it directly here and having had the opportunity to look at a lot of these centers around the country this is an incredibly beautiful facility for many kids I feel like it’s just a safe space you know an opportunity to grow and learn you know I have relationships that have lasted a lifetime off of just you know spending time in a Boys and Girls Club during the summers i think everybody had something where somebody looked out for kids and gave them an opportunity to do whatever it is that they like to do and that’s what Boys and Girls Club is doing for these kids
