MAJOR REPORT: Miami Heat ENGAGED With Suns On Kevin Durant Trade via Shams Charania

[Music] folks is it going to happen after a lot of Kevin Durant trade speculation on the Heat’s perspective this off season we got our most juicy update yet from Sham Sheran came out today and one of the things that he said is that the Heat have been engaged with the Phoenix Suns on a Kevin Durant trade it all started with this report today at 12:24 Eastern time saying that the Suns and KD are starting to go through the teams that are interested in him on where he would prefer to be traded and the teams that have registered interest are the San Antonio Spurs Houston Rockets Minnesota Timberwolves Miami Heat and New York Knicks that is according to Sham Shirana but the part that makes it even more intriguing from Miami’s end is that Shams went on the Pat McAfee show today live from Indiana before game three of the NBA Finals and said that they referring to the Miami Heat have been engaged with the Suns on a Kevin Durant trade over the last week so I’m sure that they have been exchanging what it would take to get a KD trade and if this is a truthful report from Shirana then you would have to imagine once KD kind of goes through where he might want to go if he ultimately says you know what the Heat are number one or number two on my list and gives the green light to Phoenix well then the Suns may look at the Heat’s offer and take it or there might have to still be work to be done on the negotiating sides you would have known about this prior to this show if you followed me over on Twitter that’s my profile picture that’s my banner that’s me go give me a follower four followers away from 1800 let’s get there on today’s show appreciate everybody who joins me over on Twitter trying to grow a large family talking Heat basketball every single day we have talked a lot about tradeing for Kevin Durant whether it be at the deadline whether it be two off seasons ago i know I wasn’t making content just yet around the Miami Heat but you go back to 2016 free agency you go back to 2022 when the Heat could have traded for KD or Donovan Mitchell kd ultimately stayed mitchell went to Cleveland like this has been a longstanding pursuit for the Darula and although there has been like a tennis match in my head of if it’s a good idea or a bad idea to trade for Katie and go all in for the next three years it just like as a fan you can’t not be excited and you got to have a little bit of hope unfortunately and unfortunately for me as well the hope got boosted a little bit more when Stfan Bondi who covers the New York Knicks for the New York Post tweeted out just an hour and a half two hours after Sham’s report that the Knicks are not in the mix for Kevin Durant and this is actually consistent with another report that came out I believe within the last 48 hours from Ian Begley that said that he has not heard the Knicks have expressed interest in KD the national media has said that but the Knicks reporters are kind of shooting that down so I’ll trust the beat reporters that are around the team and have the better relationships with the front office in New York more than the national media at this point and that now dwindles down the teams in on KD to four miami San Antonio Houston and Minnesota but if you also take other reports around the league around Houston not being willing to kind of change their young core for a 37year-old KD we might really be down to three teams which is Miami San Antonio and Minnesota now I will say this i truly believe that KD is a Spur if the San Antonio Spurs want him they have the best package for him out of the teams mentioned including Houston in my opinion and they make the most sense because they aren’t completely a young team yeah they have a young nucleus with Stefan Castle Victor Webeyama Devin Vel but once you trade for Dear and Fox that started to speed up their timeline a little bit because Fox isn’t there to help them get out of a rebuild no he’s there to help them compete for a title and although KD is 37 years old in September you get KD as your third option potentially to WBY and Fox and you still have Stefan Castle in that number two pick well my goodness that’s a team that could absolutely be top four in the Western Conference next year but I do view Miami as the second best landing spot for Kevin Durant when you take into account the easier conference the fit with Bam and Hero and overall just living in Miami we’ll talk more about that here in a second but be honest with me what is the chance that he actually trade for KD scale it one to 100 for me let me know your thoughts it’s not zero because the Heat are on the list but scale it one to 100 today’s pin comment now if I am accurate in my assumption of who is really the battle and Ethan J sknick of Five Sports Network also said that this is a guess from him not a report so I want to make that clear when I say this but he also predicted and guessed it ultimately is San Antonio versus Miami for Kevin Durant and when you look at the two different packages it’s fascinating because I think San Antonio would be willing to offer Devin Val Harrison Barnes Jeremy Sohan and that 14th overall pick in this year’s draft miamiy’s offer is Wiggins Yoic Duncan and the 20th overall pick but maybe in order to seal the deal if they really wanted to get KD in the 305 maybe they would offer a second first round pick in the future that is protected or maybe they offer a pick swap in the first round with Phoenix as well now when you compare these packages up front I think San Antonio’s would be the best but here is a sneaky advantage for Miami in potentially trading for KD if the Suns are prioritizing getting underneath the luxury tax the Heat’s offer is actually more appealing for the Suns than the Spurs if it’s financially motivated that is the case if they want to still contend and create a young core well then it’s probably San Antonio but why would this be an advantage for Miami well it’s actually because Duncan Robinson’s contract he has one year left at $19.8 million that becomes fully guaranteed at the end of this month or early July if you trade for KD prior to the draft what Phoenix would be able to do is absorb the 19.8 $.8 million contract because that is what it is at face value they obviously it would get picked up and guaranteed by Duncan Robinson who picks up that guaranteed 9.8 but then the Suns could wave him and free up $10 million when you factor in losing KD and his salary of $54 million if they got Duncan and waved him and then they don’t pick up the team option on the $ 8.5 million contract for Muisich that Phoenix has that now frees up $20 million for Phoenix where they are $22 million above the first apron which means they could get underneath the first apron by making another couple moves in the off season now I do not know what Phoenix ultimately wants whether it is staying competitive whether it is retooling with draft capital but one thing is clear with Miami’s package they would get a solid player on the roster and Andrew Wiggins a young wing and forwarded Nicola Yoic draft capital and the ability to potentially get underneath the first apron and you have to imagine that is appealing to some degree for the Phoenix Suns now then you have to then turn to Kevin Durant and say is this the place that he wants to go well I really do believe that Miami is the best spot for Kevin Durant because he would be the number one option he would be in the Eastern Conference which if he cares about competing at the highest level it’s easier if he goes to San Antonio do I think they’ll be a top six team and guaranteed to be in the playoffs next year assuming everyone stays healthy yes I do but you have to still contend with the Oklahoma City Thunder the Denver Nuggets the Houston Rockets the Lakers are going to be better next year in the East all you got to do is contend with the Pistons Pacers Cavs and Knicks with the Bucks and Celtics taking a step back he’d be the number one option in the a weaker conference he’d live in Miami which no offense to San Antonio but Charles Barkley can attest is a much better place to live and then he’d be able to just have some fun with the Miami Heat and coming up here in just a second I do actually want to revisit what the Heat offered the Suns for KD at the trade deadline because they were interested and they did try to acquire him for Jimmy Butler but make sure you do subscribe to the channel for daily coverage of the Miami Heat whether it’s trade news trade rumors draft content live shows if something goes down we will have you with daily content so join the family 22,6556 subscribers strong appreciate everybody that’s already subscribed hopefully you join us i do want to just flash it back to last February because before Jimmy Butler was traded to the Golden State Warriors the Heat did try to pivot last second and deal Jimmy to Phoenix like he originally wanted and then have KD land in Miami now Jimmy probably wanted to go to Phoenix to play with KD and Devin Booker so I don’t know if he would have been happy to go there with Durant coming back to Miami but it is something Miami tried to do and the trade offer was I wouldn’t say leaked we’ve known this for a while but it was re-reported by Barry Jackson and Ethan J skolnick of Five Reason Sports Network that the Heat offered Jimmy Butler Nicole Yovic Josh Richardson and a first round pick for Kevin Durant and it was reported that Phoenix said no to this deal because they actually wanted much more from the Miami Heat which I don’t know how they could ask for much more but we’ll talk more about that here in a second but if the Heat do end up keeping their draft pick whatever player they select will likely walk the stage in one of these Miami Heat draft hats i think they’re really sweet this year like the logo on the side like the scripture there’s different options of flat brim with the white there’s the curved brim with the black heck they even got bucket hats baby and I’m really tempted to buy one i think I might buy one after I film this so if I’m going to be completely honest I think I’m convinced get yours today at chatsports.com/heat2025draft hats links in description and comments of today’s video grab yours today one more time chatports.com/heat2025drafts is the Phoenix Suns a delusional franchise i think they are and unfortunately for them in a good way but also it kind of hurt them their owner Matt Ishba botched his name don’t care really aggressive willing to spend you saw it with KD the book and the uh Beal big three it didn’t work out and he wants to remain competitive and I don’t understand how they could have turned down if they knew they were going to trade KD this off season why wouldn’t they have traded for Jimmy Yoic in a first now they’re going to get similar return i’m not saying Wiggins is on the same tier as Jimmy but it’s similar right it’s still draft capital like a wing veteran player and Nicole Yovic but his value right now is definitely no lower whether it’s for Miami or whether it’s for a different team because when you think about trading for a player of Katie’s caliber if you get him at the deadline well that is going to help your team then in the offseason it’s a little bit different plus with that deadline there’s more of a driving force to up the price point because there’s not many other options out there unlike in the offseason where you can really do anything in the four or five months before the season so Katie’s value is definitely a bit lower and I think it’s a little bit lower as well is because you have to pay him if you trade for him at the deadline like you can say like well maybe don’t we don’t want to pay him until after his final year of his deal but if you trade for him now you likely were going to have to extend him he is eligible for a two-year $120 million contract extension and I think that if you do trade for him you have to give it to him so if the Heat or any team ultimately traded for KD this is what the contract would be you would still have him under contract for 2526 for $54.7 million but then that two-year extension is 57.3 in the following year and then 62.7 million in that final year of 2728 he would be 37 38 and 39 and even though he’s playing really good basketball still you’d have to imagine that’s the last time he gets a max type of contract and you would be creating for yourself a three-year window to win a title and if you don’t win a title in that three-year window then you have potentially really screwed up your 10-year plan instead of like this short quick window and the reason why it’s a little bit concerning is well if you do extend him for that max you would then have Durant Bam and Hero and shout out to Matt for bringing this point up on Twitter which I want to show him and give him credit if you have those three 79.4% 4% of your cap this season is to those three guys and then when you go even further to 2627 it jumps up to 84.4% because Bameio’s max contract extension kicks in for $55 million a season because he’s still not to that $50 million mark this upcoming year and then if you extended Tyler Hero that $50 $50 million per season extension you would then have Durant at 63 Bam at 58 and Hero at 47 in 2728 that is a scary sight to be behold but with that being said if you get a championship in that three-year window I don’t really give two shits about the money but the question would be is Miami able to do that so let me ask you this before I give you my thoughts would you give KD that contract extension which ultimately is this three years in Miami type Y for yes type N for no let me know your thoughts down below i mean if you’re trading for KD I think you have to right like there would be no point to trade for KD and then not extend him now I do see some people with a counterpoint to where like if you don’t give up any future capital for Durant it’s only like the 20th pick in contracts for Durant and you let him walk well that’s then a $54 million expiring which would then give you a max contract in free agency next year like if Aluca Donic didn’t extend with the Lakers which he ultimately will but if he didn’t then you could potentially sign Luca because you would have a contract available for him in that max slot if you let KD walk but if you have this man on your roster he plays 60 games again or more elevates Tyler Herro and Bam and Abby around him because they are no longer guarded like a number one or number two option well then I think it’s worth it to keep KD on the team he is still without a question a top 10 offensive player in basketball and I might be underelling him based off what he did last season and I think you would make the solid argument he is a top five player in basketball when it comes to just on the offensive end he is as smooth as a and an efficient bucket getter as you can possibly imagine and the fact that he’s still doing it at 36 37 years old is just uberly impressive and I would love to be able to watch that on a nightly basis in Miami but as I always do mention it’s a domino effect as well for Miami because it’s not just adding KD to the roster adding KD to your team makes him the number one player that teams have to game plan against with their defensive plan which then frees up Tyler Herro to get a little bit more good looks it frees up Bam to go back to his natural role as the third best offensive player but second best overall player on a team like your team construction would just be significantly better in my opinion because everybody has just so much less pressure on them and hopefully your defensive infrastructure would be able to remain intact to have a top 10 defense which you have had each of the last five seasons but over the last five years your offense has ranked in the bottom 10 every year with most of those years being in the bottom five i just don’t see a KD hero BAM big three team being bottom 10 offensively anymore so if you can get into that top half offensive metric and still have a top 10 defense well then you will be a top five team in the East remember the last time that the Heat have had a top half defense and offense was 2021-22 what happened that year they’re the number one team in the East and we’re one shot away from being in the finals against the Warriors so can we get back there who knows but hit that sub button because we do have daily content and if anything actually happens whether Katie goes to San Antonio or comes to Miami we’ll have you covered with everything you need to join the channel [Music]

Pat Riley and the Heat front office tried to acquire Kevin Durant at the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline. Miami offered Jimmy Butler, Nikola Jovic, Josh Richardson, and a 1st round pick for Kevin Durant. The Suns obviously said no.

If the Miami Heat made a Kevin Durant trade; they would have to give a new KD contract. Durant is eligible for a two-year, $120 MM contract which would keep him in Miami through the 2027-28 season.

  3. I think our odds of landing Durant depend on whether or not Ware is included in the trade package. If he’s not included, our odds of getting him are super low, I’d be very surprised if Phoenix wants our young assets + picks instead of San Antonio’s or Houston’s. I’m team keep Ware but let’s see what happens

  4. Yea i see KD going to the Spurs or see a team like the 76ers getting desperate and jumping in to get him too. Unless KD says he wants to go to the Heat….they have no shot

  5. History going repeat it's self the heat going take to long worrying about getting kd miss out on good role players then it's bring the run it back gang

  6. I think the heat can have the best offer if they take Beal off of phoenix. Getting Beal off the suns would appeal them over any trade due to financial reasons

  7. And enough with this crap about the weak East. How many teams in the West beat Indy, the Knicks, Cavs?

OKC and maybe Denver at most?

  8. Lets gooo! If KD wants legacy Heat is the right choice…If he is a lame ass guy go to SA or Rockets he will be so called uncle drew he is old from both teams.
