replaced by the New York Nicks remains ongoing as we say hello here to our SH Shams What is the latest with the Nick search here Mica in the last 24 hours I’m told the Nicks have requested permission on Houston’s emuda Minnesota’s Chris Finch and this morning Dallas Jason Kid to request permission on speaking to them for their head coaching job But I’m told all three were firm and flat denials All three teams rejected the Nicks pretty quickly And for the Nicks they believe this is just part of their process that they are using this as part of they’re the only team with a vacancy right now so they can take their time Remember in 2020 they interviewed 13 candidates for hiring Tom Fibito So at this point until the Nicks are not in a rush But clearly after firing Tom Thido after he became the first coach in 25 years to take you to Eastern Conference finals three straight denials from teams with current head coaches is not the way to start ahad coaching search Yeah three straight denials is a very different tenor than the party that we’re hearing behind you right now Sh Oh there we go I know we can hear you a little bit better Let’s stick in New York here Shams because there’s another headline that could shake up the city you have got as of today You just reported here There are a couple of teams that have interest in making a deal for Kevin Durant What are they Malik right now I’m told that Houston San Antonio uh as well as Minnesota Miami uh and you know those are among the teams uh as well as the Nicks that are pursuing Kevin Durant and the Phoenix sons and his and Kevin Durant’s business manager uh Rich Clim are going to work together on finding a home and I would expect talks to escalate closer to the NBA draft And there could be some wild card teams involved here as well There are some teams in Eastern Conference I’m told that are looking at how the arms race is going there and wondering are we a Kevin Drant away from competing in this Eastern Conference race for the championship So uh this process will escalate between now and the NBA trick deadline later this sh thank you so very much for that information as the party starts once again behind you and is joining us here at the shs up they’re putting the pressure on blasting the show over the louder the party over the louder but clearly this is a party for Kevin Durant which team do you think should be most aggressive in going after him I know most people especially considering I’m wearing red would assume that I we’re going to shoot our shot because that’s what they’re doing Shooting their shot at Kevin Durant I’m actually going to throw a curve ball Another team with red Miami I’m sorry I looked at you I’m looking at Miami And again I think the emphasis here is the East cuz if you think about them and what KD brings I mean last year they were 37 and 45 They have the worst record since LeBron James left Miami Sorry UD 21st in offense They have a number of young vets that will understand what it’s like to play again play alongside a generational player in Kevin Durant So I’m looking at that as an opportunity But of course I’m going to throw my Houston Rockets into the mix I The only thing that the only reason I have cause for pause is if Yanis is on the board you don’t want to shoot your shot at Kevin Durant and miss out on Yanis I’m looking at that enormous championship ring that is sitting firmly and squarely on our desk right now Udon Uh the Miami Heat having interest here Listen I have nothing to say understood does not have to be explained There you go And there it is right there All right So the most important thing that Shams put in his report there was that those sons are working with Rich Climan his business manager on this When they attempted to trade him at the trade deadline they did not work with him and it came as a surprise to Kevin Durant and Durant made it very clear he was unhappy with that and ended up undercutting the trade And the reason Durant’s opinion matters here is he’s only got one year left on his contract What I not sure of guys is how robust the offers are going to be From what I am told the Suns are looking for a comparable package what they traded Kevin Durant which is impact players and multiple draft draft assets I’m not sure they’re going to be able to generate that because Duran is a couple years older and his contract is shorter So that’s going to be something going to watch in the next couple of weeks So much of the conversation when we talk about Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Sons really needing to trade him if they want to improve the roster is his age and how much money is left I feel like sometimes it goes by the wayside What kind of player Kevin Durant still is Bucket bucket One of the best we’ve ever seen do it And wherever he goes he’s going to get buckets But let’s be let’s be real Kevin Durant needs to go somewhere where he’s going to help a team win a championship He needs to put himself in a position where he can get a ring This is not just about playing basketball He wants to end his legacy as considered a champion A lot of people say he hasn’t been able to get that done the last couple times So he wants to have that opportunity Also a strong personality as a coach somebody he respects He’s been around this league a long time He’s seen the best and he’s seen the worst So he needs to go into a locker room where there’s a coach and you have a strong personality as a coach Ask some young players Also strong personality as a teammate And I think don’t sleep on Minnesota I’m not sure what the assets look like but if you’re thinking about contention twice you were in the Western Conference finals Twice you had opportunities to almost get over the hump But what was a big issue They did not have support And yeah this guy was this man Shadow Anthony Edwards was Kevin Duran Shadow And one of my favorite plays that we witness was when they went head to head and we got “Look I’m coming for you big bro There’s mentorship but it’s when you’re idols to your rivals right Now it’s rivals could be your idols and your teammates This is a place you should not sleep on Uh I look at Minnesota as an opportunity where if you get him maybe they are ready to get to where we are right now the NBA fight right It’s just about what they would have to give up and that’s where I’m looking at maybe like a Jaden McDaniels Do you want to do that I’m not sure Well they both are teams that are in the second apron zone which makes a trade tough But J you are not off base because the Timber Wolves tried around the trade deadline to pull off a deal for Kevin Durant because of their hurdles of the second Apron It was possible but now it’s the summer things are different Oh I’m not very The math part of all of this is where I start to struggle So it’s a good thing Bobby Marx will be join I’m not like superstitious or anything but I feel like just you just try to treat every game the same way honestly Um I still eat goldfish at 60 minut on minutes on the clock I still go to chapel I’m just try to treat the same cuz the minute that I try to switch it up or put more pressure on myself for our group than there really is or or that needs to to be applied then I feel like uh guys can you know get nervous or whatever cases Let’s just be loose play basketball Just be loose play basketball but do it in an important game Because historically game three winners of a series that’s tied at 1 they go on to win the series over 80% of the time However UD not all hope lost for the loser right Your Heat lost a pivot of game 3 to Danny Spurs in what 2013 that was Then you won the NBA finals in seven here So you’ve been to seven NBA finals you what is it about this game 3 that’s so all important I mean for me obviously you gave the statistic 80% of the teams that win this game wins the series but if I’m looking at Indiana I think it’s very important for them because this is the first time I feel like the pressure has been on them for the most time I think like they’ve been playing with houses money I feel like right now they come back home with the series ti 22 I think the series is I think the pressure is definitely being put on them now for the first time How do they respond I really see I want to see that Yeah I mean game 3 is pivotal and it said it doesn’t dictate the series per se Obviously they won in 2013 Um I got OKC tonight but I think the pressure is on Indiana But like Ty said you want to be loose you want to have fun You know the mindset doesn’t change the approach doesn’t change I love how he’s like looking at it You want to be loose And I remember there was times when I was too locked in and you know Timmy would send me a text Timmy would send me a text like two locked in just overthinking things You don’t want to overthink things You don’t want to overdo things You want to playing your best basketball when it’s pure and you’re being a is tried tested and true NBA players are the most superstitious athletes I believe in the world And for me I used to do everything the right way Starting with my right shoe putting my right foot on that’s something I did for 20 seasons in the NBA I made sure before every single game I had the opportunity to take time and go to chapel so just having that routine it calms you it puts you in a mindset it makes you feel like you’re doing something you do every day even though you’re playing in the finals it doesn’t happen every day Brian and I have combined to play in zero NBA finals games but we do always put our left shoe on before the show right we are locked in on that all right there’s plenty of story lines going into this game 3 Let’s just remind folks of some of the biggest ones here as we go back in this series showing you these highlights Game one it’s sort of just the thunder swarming everywhere Watch how they’re just all over the Pacers setting the stage right from the start This first half of game one they let the Pacers know how they were going to expect to be defended And then that enabled them to get going on the other side Shail just with 38 in this game midrange and then get into the basket It’s very hard to uh to stay with them but you know they didn’t separate enough So in the first half of game one right you see the turnovers here that the Indiana Pacers committed but it didn’t feel like the Oklahoma City Thunder fully capitalized on this here And that’s why we were able to see the comeback that we saw from the Indiana Pacers UD Yeah And then you see Ty first being aggressive getting down hill Now we look at Mil turn getting bank off the glass where everybody say did he call glass It don’t matter if he call glass a bucket Now we look at other guys This is what I love the others getting ball getting the ball to Nith NH going at his boy his Canadian buddy getting a bucket on him after he just push after he just pushed him against the A1 So the competitive nature of other guys getting involved is not just on him And then we see the shot hur all around OKC right there to finish him off And this is what it sounded like inside Gridge Fieldhouse right here where we’re sitting when they hit that shot Yes we haven’t been in this situation but it doesn’t mean our character has to change or what we did last time It’s it’s still basketball the game of basketball that we grew up playing Um the rules don’t change just because we’re in the finals This is where the MVP felt like he needed to step up and he could play better and he certainly did that 34 points five rebends but it was an efficient 34 Yeah he had fewer points in game two but he was much better 34 points on 21 shots eight assists That’s the MVP uh that we got to see for the regular season And he got everybody else going Danny Yes And these are the others These are guys that they need to lean on Especially like a guy like Alex Caruso who’s been there before They don’t have many veterans but they’re going to need those guys to step up From Aaron Wigans to Casin Wallace Chet he had a big game Game one he really struggled a little bit So game two he picked it up and that’s what kind of got them this win But here’s what’s strange Both teams have struggled in game 3 this postseason The Pacers they’ve lost all three of their game threes That’s despite going 12 and one in all other games during the Eastern Conference playoffs The Thunder meanwhile they’ve gone one and two Their only win coming after falling behind by 29 in the first round Now I caught up with Thunder Allstar JD not Jayen friends as I was reminded ahead of game 3 yesterday Take a listen Dominated at home It’s been a little bit of a different story on the road ups and downs as it happens kind of in these playoffs Game threes though they’ve all been a horrible Yeah they’ve been a little horrible for you guys How can you turn it around with this game Uh not overthink it too much And then I think just at the end of the day we get we get these little like two days which has been the first time we’ve had you know a long break in between So hopefully we can have a different who’s been put into that starting lineup mostly for defense but I think he’s going to have an opportunity to score some points and I look on the other end and OB topping was the guy last time but I think Benedict Math is a guy who’s going to get it going He’s a guy who average 16 points for them in the regular season he’s been averaging 10 in the postseason but he’s a guy even in a losing effort he kind of got his rhythm offensively last game but he’s going to have to clean up his defense cuz they’ve been targeting him and going at him So we talked about how the Thunder have struggled in these game threes and this is going to be so important coming out of the gate for the Pacers tonight Because in these game 3s where the Thunder have gotten off to problems is right out of the gate playing their first half in the visiting teams arena Even when they won that Memphis game that was the night that Jaw got hurt and that was you know they probably got bailed out cuz of that game 3 in the Western finals that game was over by halftime The first half is what’s killed Indiana Indiana has scored 132 points in the second halfs of games one and two Their first half they’ve got no offense going So you know that the that the Pacers are going to come out in this first half trying to set a different tone Can the Thunder handle this game 3 first half The X factor for me I love that you interviewed him was JD and I seen a lot from him in that Minnesota series I think it was game four or five where he was the guy that answered every basket that Minnesota had So he hasn’t he’s had a decent you know come first two games He hasn’t had a I’m here type of game This is this is his moment This is his time I’m expecting him in this game 3 to welcome everybody around the world No KC fans I’m J I’m the allstar you can rely on I’m here and this is my moment So you know obviously Ty they’re looking at Tyr to try to be aggressive on Indiana side I’m looking at JD on the OKC side to to let people know that he is an all-star and there’s a reason why JD has had a couple of huge road games in these playoffs He had a big game in Denver I think he had 32 in that game And then really the
