KD TRADE SWEEPSTAKES πŸ‘€ Which team will land the all-star? + Knicks’ HC vacancy search | NBA Today

burton to the hole oh my goodness indiana just playing a lot harder than New York indiana Pacers with a win and a birth in the finals there’s disappointment cuz you fall short of what your goal is sucks man simple as that it sucks so that was the last time a game was played in this arena the Knicks they were eliminated in game six of the Eastern Conference Finals and since then we’ve had some shakeups coach Tom Tippido he was fired but this was a classy move he took out a full page advertisement did you guys see this in the New York Times this morning yeah I love that you know I have a little affinity for newspapers he said in part quote “To the best city in the world with the best fans in the world.” Thank you when I was hired in 2020 I said “This was my dream job i am grateful that dream became a reality.” He said “I am proud of everything we’ve accomplished together and to our fans thank you for believing in me and embracing me from day one watching you support our team seeing the Garden ignite with that incomparable Knicks energy is something that I will never forget so Tibs is out but his search to be replaced by the New York Knicks remains ongoing as we say hello here to our Sham Sharan Shams what is the latest with the Knicks search here in the last 24 hours I’m told the Knicks have requested permission on Houston’s Emma Udoka Minnesota’s Chris Finch and this morning Dallas’s Jason Kidd to request permission on speaking to them for their head coaching job but I’m told all three were firm and flat denials all three teams rejected the Knicks pretty quickly and for the Knicks they believe this is just part of their process that they are using this as part of they’re the only team with a vacancy right now so they can take their time remember in 2020 they interviewed 13 candidates for hiring Tom Thibido so at this point I’m told the Knicks are not in a rush but clearly after firing Tom Thibido after he became the first coach in 25 years to take you to an Eastern Conference Finals three straight denials from teams with current head coaches is not the way to start a head coaching search yeah three straight denials is a very different tenor than the party that we’re hearing behind you right now Sham Sha oh there we go now we can hear you a little bit better let’s stick in New York here Shams because there’s another headline that could shake up the city you have got as of today you just reported here there are a couple of teams that have interest in making a deal for Kevin Durant what are they Malikica right now I’m told that Houston San Antonio uh as well as Minnesota Miami uh and you know those are among the teams uh as well as the Knicks that are pursuing Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns and his and Kevin Durant business manager uh Rich Kimman are going to work together on finding a home and I would expect talks to escalate closer to the NBA draft and there could be some wildcard teams involved here as well there are some teams in the Eastern Conference I’m told that are looking at how the arms race is going they’re and wondering are we a Kevin Durant away from competing in this uh Eastern Conference race for the championship so uh this process will escalate between now and the NBA trade deadline later this month sh thank you so very much for that information as the party starts once again behind you and Shane Gumay is joining us here at the desk really up they’re putting the pressure on i know we’re blasting the show over the loudspeaker the party over the loudspeaker but clearly this is a party for Kevin Durant cha which team do you think should be most aggressive in going after him i know most people especially considering I’m wearing red i would assume that I I’m going to shoot our shot because that’s what they’re doing shooting their shot at Kevin Durant i’m actually going to throw a curveball another team with red miami i’m sorry i’m looking at you i’m looking at Miami and again I think the emphasis here is the East because if you think about them and what KD brings I mean last year they were 37 and 45 they had the worst record since LeBron James left Miami sorry UD 21st in offense they have a number of young vets that will understand what it’s like to play against play alongside a generational player in Kevin Durant so I’m looking at that as an opportunity but of course I’m going to throw my Houston Rockets into the mix i the only thing that the only reason I have cause for pause is if Giannis is on the board you don’t want to shoot your shot at Kevin Durant and miss out on Giannis i’m looking at that enormous championship ring that is sitting firmly and squarely on our desk right now udonis uh the Miami Heat having interest here well listen I have nothing to say what’s understood does not have to be explained there you go and there it is right there all right so the most important thing that Shams put in his report there was that those Suns are working with Rich Kimman his business manager on this when they attempted to trade him at the trade deadline they did not work with him and it came as a surprise to Kevin Durant and Durant made it very clear he was unhappy with that and it ended up undercutting the trade and the reason Durant any opinion matters here is he’s only got one year left on his contract what I am not sure of guys is how robust the offers are going to be from what I am told the Suns are looking for a comparable package for what they traded Kevin Durant which is impact players and multiple draft draft assets i’m not sure they’re going to be able to generate that because Durant is a couple years older and his contract is shorter so that’s going to be something where they’re going to watch in the next couple of weeks so much of the conversation when we talk about Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns really needing to trade him if they want to improve the roster is his age and how much money is left i feel like sometimes it goes by the wayside UD what kind of player Kevin Durant still is bucket certified bucket one of the best we’ve ever seen do it and wherever he goes he’s going to get buckets but let’s be let’s be real kevin Durant needs to go somewhere where he’s going to help a team win a championship he needs to put himself in a position where he can get a ring this is not just about playing basketball he wants to end his legacy as considered a champion a lot of people say he hasn’t been able to get that done the last couple times so he wants to have that opportunity also a strong personality as a coach somebody he respects he’s been around this league a long time he’s seen the best and he’s seen the worst so he needs to go into a locker room where there’s a coach and you have a strong personality as a coach has some young players also strong personality as a teammate and I think don’t sleep on Minnesota i’m not sure what the assets look like but if you’re thinking about contention twice you were in the Western Conference Finals twice you had opportunities to almost get over the hump but what was the big issue they did not have support and yeah this guy was this man’s shadow anthony Edwards was Kevin Durant shadow and one of my favorite plays that we witnessed was when they went headtohead and we got look I’m coming for you big bro there’s mentorship but it’s when your idols your rivals right now it’s rivals could be your idols and your teammates this is a place you should not sleep on uh I look at Minnesota as an opportunity where if you get him maybe they are ready made to get to where we are right now in the NBA final right it’s just about what they would have to give up and that’s where I’m looking at maybe like a Jaden McDaniels do you want to do that i’m not sure well they both are teams that are in the Second Apron zone which makes a trade tough but Jana you are not off base because the Timberwolves tried around the trade deadline to pull off a deal for Kevin Durant because of their hurdles of the Second Apron it wasn’t possible but now it’s the summer things are different so we’re here at the NBA Finals but we’re also just two weeks away from the 2025 NBA draft the Mavericks I mean you guys saw me Chennai and Wendy’s reaction they literally hit the lottery they’re going to have the opportunity to draft Cooper Flag with the number one pick and after that it’s kind of anyone’s guess the NBA offseason it’s going to truly heat up as we approach that June 25th date and the conversation is okay that’s when the draft kind of starts at two or three and that’s why we have our front office insider Bobby Marks here joining us bobby which teams are you watching most closely as we inch towards the end of June malikica there’s there’s four teams from for me and I think it certainly starts with San Antonio who has the second and 14th pick in the draft certainly the likelihood of course is Cooper Flag going number one but this draft is wide open certainly the Spurs have options to add to with Victor Wmanyama or certainly move back in the draft the next team is Philadelphia at number three a rarity where a team with Joel Embiid Tyrese Maxi and Paul George can add a top three pick to that roster in Philadelphia the next team is Brooklyn brooklyn is the bingo board right they’re at 8,9 26 27 the only team that has four first round picks in this year’s draft there’s going to be plenty of options in Brooklyn and then finally Houston the rarity where a team that finishes with the second best record in the Western Conference can have a top 10 pick that pick of course is from Phoenix i talked to one league executive this morning he thinks we’re going to see the most activity as far as tradable picks in this year’s first round wow most activity so that means we’re going to all need to have our notepads open as caps are flying around from team to team from player to player here uh some other news today Bobby that I wanted to get your expertise on here shams reported just a couple of hours ago that the Rockets the Spurs the Heat the Timberwolves the Knicks right now those are the teams that are interested in entering the Kevin Durant sweep stakes for making a deal obviously Phoenix has to weigh who can put together the most attractive package here Bobby so out of those five teams who do you got who are you looking at as making the most competitive offer i I think Malikica if we’re ranking them it’s it’s certainly going to be San Antonio and Houston those two teams are on the top because they have the four things they check the boxes in a Kevin Durant trade when you look at controllable contracts when you look at financial flexibility when you look at sizable contracts of course we’ve got to make the money to work and then when you look at draft equity we just talked about San Antonio at 14 houston of course is at 10 minnesota to me is awfully intriguing they don’t have the draft equity but they certainly have the contracts when you look at Rudy Goar Dante Devincenzo and possibly Rob Dillingham who they picked in last year’s lottery miami of course they’ve got three first round picks we’ll see what happens there and then of course New York new York for me is interesting because outside of Carl Anthony Towns it’s hard to see getting the money to m to match unless of course you’re training a combination of Muel Bridges Josh Hart possibly OG Anobi bobby thank you so much for that insight really appreciate your time here so so listening to what Bobby had to say here Brian is there a team that you think makes the most mutual sense for both Kevin Durant’s abilities which we determined earlier are vast and the team that can make the best most attractive offer the two teams that stick out to me that are probably going to be the most attractive because on the other side of a Durant trade they still have a very competitive team the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets and I would say that about just about any star that’s available they have the draft capital they have the contracts they have the depth on their roster and they have the youth because that’s the key you have young players that you can match with these veterans but I just want to you guys to remember what the Suns traded to get Kevin Durant this is an important thing to keep in mind because what they gave up in terms of players and draft capital they’re going to want to recoup a significant amount of that this is going to be the starting place from where they were and this is going to hurt some Suns fans feelings when they remember everything they gave up here so many of those things haven’t actually conveyed yet when you look at those draft picks so the Suns are going to want players that can play right now because as you can see they don’t control their next three drafts see 25 20 28 27 29 they don’t control those drafts so they can’t go into a rebuild they’re going to reinvest I believe in Devin Booker try to extend him they don’t have the ability to trade Bradley Beal without his permission on the other side of a trade they need to be able to still be competitive in a very tough Western Conference so if you’re in the trade machine and you’re delivering stuff that’s going to lead to a rebuild in in Phoenix you need to restart often times when I think about trades of this magnitude I always think about which team has the fewest players that are untouchable right because if you think about the San Antonio Spurs you’ve got Victor you’ve got Stefon you’ve got the number two pick you’ve got a De’arren Fox you’ve got a really excellent young core that maybe you don’t want to touch not to mention Wimby thank you did I yeah yeah victor Wingama and now for the Rockets and I you guys know I’m the biggest fan of my city right but I do believe that there are some holes that we’ve seen beyond the offense right they were 12th offensively 21st in three-point percentage but now like okay Jaylen Green how do you feel about him you know Jabari Smith Jr how do you feel about him they would have to give up Jaylen Green right like he you would have to I don’t think so definitely most likely i don’t want to get in trouble here if the Rockets were to get involved in this I think Jaylen Green’s name would be involved but I think the key when it comes to Houston is that Houston’s players are all in their 20s they’ve got a runway kevin Durant is 37 so unless you think you’re ready to win immediately I’m not sure that actually fits with it but the same is kind of for San Antonio a lot of young players i mean the players that are listed are all under 27 most of them under 23 but like the reason I like Houston is just because Shangon and Amen Thompson and outside of that they have a lot of pieces that they can give up without having to give away their full core so does San Antonio so the Houston teams do make a lot of sense but the team that I would like to look at outside of the Houston teams is Minnesota i feel like they got to the Western Conference Finals in one piece of way they needed a closer obviously Houston needs a closer as well they’re looking at Jaylen Green he’s a young star he hasn’t proven that he’s that guy yet kd has but they can keep the core they have Cam Whitmore they have Reed Shepard they have a lot of guys and pieces and picks that they can use to keep their core together without having to get rid of so much that’s the toughest thing about trading for KD is that you have to deplete your roster to get him and the two Texas teams are the teams that can do that without having to get rid of so much this is something that’s going to be playing out over the next couple of days the next couple of weeks if not the next couple of months but again we expect as Bobby Mark said around the NBA draft this could be a wild wild ride and we’ll be with you for it every step of the way [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

  1. He should come to the bucks hear me out , brook lopez Bobby porter Damian Lillard πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚

  2. KD should Retire, he’s washed and distractions to the organization, whichever team he goes to that ream will be destroyed they wont even make it to playoffs ,unless that team has 3 other if not superstars at least 3 other all stars

  3. KD is as bad as lenbron… forcing teams to trade away the kingdom to get him and then leaving them in shambles after leaving… no player has had more help than lebron. KD is right behind him.

  4. Kd never plays defense. He only worries about the basket the score. I do not want kd on the New York knicks. Please don't do that to us. I'm kool with the core we ha e now. Just get a couple of bench players you can put out there that can score. Our whole bench is trash. Just keep Shemoet. Excuse me for misspelling his name. But that's the only one we keep. Get rid of everyone. Including bridges. He's a great player but maybe he would be better some where else

  5. Bro nobody want washed up Bus rider Durant. He could retire and the league wouldn’t even notice. He hasn’t been relevant since he left Golden state.

  6. What if everyone waits until his contract expires at the end of next season? Then KD will probably sign for minimum with a team that has a chance for the next two years, like the Lakers, or wherever Yannis will be, or Jokic? Or mabye with Wemby… He needs 2 or 3 more rings to at least catch up with Bron, Kobe, Duncan and Curry… KD could go anywhere at the end of next season to win a couple more rings. He knows who he is.

  7. Acting like 3 straight denials from teams where the Knicks want their coach is not a headline. Of course they're going to say no

  8. I wish Kevin Durant would just end his career in his hometown Washington D.C. that would be awesome. KD has nothing else to prove. One of the best players ever. Hell of a career. He'll be cemented as NBA Great when it's all said and done.

  9. Minnesota is the best team for him to win a champ in my opinion. New York is good too but don't think they can afford to trade OG, Bridges rn

  10. Go back to GS try SAS or retire.. your play style literally only works and has worked in GS system.. SAS is the closest thing he’s going to get to that

  11. KD is getting older and needs another generational player to pair up with.
KD is still better than most nba players, but he is old and injury prone.

  12. Is Jae Crowder in the league still?
mikal Bridges isn’t even an all star caliber player. He’s good nothing special.
Cam Johnson is nothing but a role player nothing more nothing less.

  13. spurs and rockets have a high chance on getting durant, they can offer young potential players + picks. That can save the phx franchise. And hopefully they can trade beal. hahahaah

  14. "I'm not sure what their assets look like" ~ Chiney Ogwumike. How is it fans with real jobs know what teams assets are, but these people paid to live and breath basketball and their job is to literally talk about it know less? Pathetic.
