Potential Sacramento Kings Trade Target: Jerami Grant
let’s see what you’ve cooked up today for Jeremy Grant who I look I’m not one to stick my nose up at players out here in Sacramento but the Jeremy Grant contract I don’t know I what spell a lot of us were under It was the Harrison Barnes wear a wear a suit spell where it was he’s got to be better That was the And this is no disrespect to Harrison Barnes I love Harrison Barnes but that was the He’s got to be better than Harrison Barnes but you’re paying him to be better You’re you’re paying him going back to the Darius Garland Colin Sexon thing You’re paying him more than Harrison Barnes to probably only be a little better than Harrison Barnes Yes Which in fairness is exactly what they did for Demar De Rozan Yeah But at least it was not 30 mil I think at the time Kings fans thought the Jeremy Grant contract was going to be about half of what the Blazers actually signed him for Like at $100 million we might do it At $160 million there’s no chance I think they thought Jeremy Grant was not going to get cashed out by the Blazers A contract that was immediately bad as soon as he signed it and everyone agreed that it was a bad contract All right Kyle what do you have cooked up let’s see Maybe you can maybe still convince me It’s not It’s not done yet I think there’s a chance I think there’s a chance So in deal number one we are doing Demar De Rozan to Portland and Portland can decide what to do with him later You know it’s like they’re going to have to pay somebody $20 million next year but their motivation is to get another expiring contract in this deal right so at this point they would have Eighton expiring D Rozan expiring Matise Thyel expiring uh Robert Williams time lord his contract would be up and they can just let them all go have cap space to sign a free agent a big time free agent like a Trey Young or something and then go from there right so they would get Demar De Rozan the Kings would get Jeremy Grant and his terrible contract a future seventh grader which is a 2031 second round pick Yeah And one Keegan Murray’s brother Chris Murray So Jeremy Grant on a three-year contract Chris Murray and a seventh grader That moves Keegan to the three I think Yep Jeremy Grant to the four Yes And you get Chris Murray Cool Maybe Hey Yeah Hey cool Pick up his team option and he’s got a one-year deal Great Great Got to do it right it’s just the thing that you do Yeah Get Just get Chris Murray And then an AAOU player to be named later What’s up Sacramento not a good one either just a a second round pick Well it’s a AAOU player that kind of flamed out a little bit but he still got drafted The next Ammani Bates Yes Don’t tell Chris Watkins that Oh is he a big Ammani Bates guy he was He was I I believe I if this is all Here’s the thing if this is the only thing that you can do and because this tells me that everything we’ve been talking about about Demar’s value has been kind of wrong right this is we got to do something with Demar because Demar is not going to stay in Portland He wants to be on a contender So if it was between this and bringing Demar back I would do it This would also be a trade they make if there is no intention of tearing it down ever ever because now you would have Sabonis for three years Jeremy Grant for three years Malik Monk for three years Zack Lavine for two years potentially sign Keegan to an extension Keegan would be for five years You sign Keon Ellis to an extension that’s two to three years there would be no expiring contracts and you’re locking yourself into a core seven of those aforementioned players which I don’t think would ever have a chance to compete for a championship but they would probably be fighting for the playoffs every year Yeah I would I don’t necessarily love the deal but like I said if it’s between that and bringing back D Rozan and the Blazers have something in place to get D Rozan where he wants to be ultimately I’ I’d like I said I’d do it instead of bringing Demar De Rozan back I I think Okay Well I mean again if this is if this is this or this or running it back I would do this There’s a case to be made for just running it back instead of taking on the Jeremy Grant contract I’m not saying it’s a a good one but remember Jeremy Grant’s more expensive than Demard Roen and a longer contract which is why the Kings would essentially be getting a first round pick in Chris Murray and a future seventh grader Here here’s a good question This deal or running it back let’s include Tyus Jones right so there is a point guard Chris Paul Taius Jones So yeah doing this or Chris Paul Tyus Jones run it back I would do Chris to your point I think I would do Chris Paul Tyus Jones run it back because I I don’t want to elongate the the best point you made here is I don’t want to elongate whatever this is I just want it to be over Yeah If we’re assuming Jeremy Grant has no trade value which in this deal he doesn’t They’re getting an expiring contract they don’t want and attaching young picks young assets and picks to move off of him If we’re assuming the contract will never have value and Zack Lavine’s contract has very little value then the Kings are essentially absorbing these contracts in order to then do a what I would call a slow tear down which is you get a young player and a couple picks You trade Malik Monk for a young player or a couple picks and then in a year or two that’s when you do the the full hey Sabonis isn’t coming back Lavine isn’t coming back Then we start to kind of do what the Jazz did in a way Like the Jazz have kind of slow burned this tear down Uh which is not a bad strategy The Jazz have a lot of really good players But it’s not the hey we just got rid of everyone and now we’re terrible type of trade What is the So yes if literally hey Allan you can’t do anything else You can’t even get Tyus Jones or CP3 Are you going to do this deal or not i do the deal I I and if you because that’s essentially okay what’s Keon Ellis or Devin Carter going to be as a point guard if it’s even as small as run it back with Tai Jones or run it back with CP3 or do this deal I would run it back because again it’s not about thinking that that team I don’t think either team is doing anything so at least then at that point you could maybe move tomorrow at the trade deadline you can move him because at that point he’d have what one year left on his deal One guaranteed year It’s weird cuz the last year is like 10 million guaranteed but not if you release him or something right and and there’d be a lot of calls for Demar at that point So you know what you might have even convinced me Kyle even if you don’t get Tai Jones I might just not do this deal But at the same time why get Chris Paul when you can get Chris Murray am I right sure Sure I Hey people like Chris Murray a lot because he’s Keegan’s brother I I don’t know I think we should kind of cool on the expectations as far as what he would do if he was in Sacramento That’s what I will say Sure Uh the second deal is a uh salary dump of Zack Lavine situation So this is essentially to get off of Zack Lavine’s deal for essentially stretch out the Jeremy Grant deal So in this one the Kings would send Zack Lavine and a lottery protected first round pick to Portland No No Even if they’re going to be bad No cuz the the lottery protected pick you know if they are in the lottery it doesn’t matter If they tear it down it doesn’t matter or you keep the pick Continue Uh they would end up with Jeremy Grant Matise Thybel on a one-year expiring deal and the aforementioned Chris Murray Hey maybe between Jeremy Grant and Matis Thyel they’ve actually played a full NBA season Let’s see if they actually have last year How many minutes how many games did Matise Thybel play um Matise I’m looking it up right now Matise as I said is expiring so doesn’t doesn’t matter He’s just kind of salary filler Kyle Jeremy Grant played 47 games last season And Thyel played 15 That is uh 62 games between them Uh did Malik Monk play more than those two combined let’s look that up I think the answer is yes It’s got to be yes I I get it It’s an expiring contract and Matise is 65 for Malik Monk with Malik Monk played more games than Matise thyel insanity and Jeremy Grant combined I understand it’s an expiring contract for Jeremy Grant So it’s all good there But yeah this is this is uh essentially the reason they’d have to include the first round pick is to make it worth Portland’s while right cuz they’re paying more in the short term and have to pay Zack Lavine for 2 years right which for some deals like if we did the Wizards salary dump it might be two seconds For other teams it might be a first I think for Portland because of just how truly terrible Portland’s team is constructed I would say that they probably won a first round You know there’s a part of me that just wouldn’t do the Jeremy Grant deal because I want the Blazers to own their decisions right the Blazers Lori Markin we’re about to talk about the Jazz here on the other side Laur you wanted to Cam Johnson on the Nets You wanted to No no no You want Everybody wanted to Danny A things Now you’re stuck Well I’m not giving you a get out of jail free card Now you’re stuck with your bad contracts and guys that don’t fit your timeline I simply wouldn’t do a deal with the Blazers just because of that You You had your opportunity We wanted Harrison Barnes to be replaced by Jeremy Grant You didn’t want to move him So now you’re stuck You know what’s funny is that because this is the Jeremy Grant uh episode of our trade candidates I had to put him in the deal Jeremy Grant isn’t even the most likely salary dump for the Blazers right because they could just send us Any Simons who’s also on an expiring deal and then it would be more worth the first round pick Jeremy Grant’s actually lowering the value of what Portland could get back on That’s what you get Portland for giving Jeremy Grant all that money Nobody is going to help you okay just nobody’s coming to save you No Just like your our parents tell us No matter how badly the Kings want to no one is coming to save you Don’t help them They got to learn from their mistakes On the other side another team I don’t want to help but I might Utah Jazz Everybody’s for sale All south I come
The Sacramento Kings will likely be aggressive in attempting to make roster upgrades this summer. Does it make sense for them to target Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant, a player they have been linked to over the years?
