“The Raptors CAN’T Afford To Risk Trading For Giannis Antetokounmpo” | Worth It or Not?

“The Raptors CAN’T Afford To Risk Trading For Giannis Antetokounmpo” | Worth It or Not?

please know Giannis is great I really do not want to sell the farm for him If it flops we are in NBA hell for the next 10 years Welcome to Amateur Answers This is a series on the channel where I read your comments and react to them If you want one of your comments featured on next week’s version of this series which comes out every Saturday then make sure you comment something down below And while you’re there give this video a like and make sure to subscribe for more Raptors content And there’s a lot for this video So not going to spend as much time as normal at least I don’t think on these ones But in this case here recognition from the user here at DCRBDH that yes Giannis would be great but the amount the Raptors would have to trade away it could be pretty risky It could put them in a situation where they’re in quote unquote NBA hell for the next 10 years And you’re not wrong but you could say that about like pretty much any decision the Raptors could make at this point Like you could say that not going out for this star type of player puts them in this purgatory situation where okay like obviously if you do that you have your draft picks for the future you can still recover from that a lot quicker But if you feel as though this is not a current group of players that is going to win an NBA championship and you have the opportunity to bring in a player that can vault you to that contender status I think it’s worth doing And in the case of Giannis I I very much believe it is worth doing This is under a video where I talked about the recent updates and the rumors linking Yiannis Kubo to a trade to Toronto That’s going to be the first batch of comments for today’s video But at some point you do need to make that step And I think you do need to make that leap of faith The Raptors made a humongous leap of faith when they traded Demar Rosen for Kawhi Leonard Ended up working out Obviously if that didn’t work out there could have been some issues But for me Giannis is a player that is worth it I can understand both sides of it but I don’t think it’s an it’s an NBA hell situation because I I’m I’m very confident in Giannis’s abilities For a player like Kevin Durant I think the conversation is a bit different but for Giannis I am I have such a degree of confidence in Giannis as a player that I do think it’s worth it but fair to disagree completely Next comment comes from Setown Akib I think this is too much to give up How do you think the Clippers feel about SGA taking OKC to the finals while Paul George is already gone so basically saying that the Raptors could be the next Clippers They trade away all this stuff in order to get Giannis First of all the trade in theory that I’ve theorized in that video to get Giannis was actually not as many picks as the Clippers gave away to get Paul George onto their team So that’s first of all Second of all the Pacers sorry the Clippers gave away a future MVP when they traded away SGA With all due respect to Scotty who could be in the trade and with all due respect to RJ Barman Quickley in this one I I very much don’t believe that a future MVP is being given away here Like the of those three players the player that is closest to getting to that status is Scotty Barnes I’m not sure he’ll get there Look crazy things have happened I don’t think he’s going to ever be an MVP Hopefully that’s not a like a hot take or anything I I think Barnes is absolutely good enough to be an all-N player MVP is quite a step I don’t believe we’re giving away an MVP in this scenario nor do I believe the Rad would give away as many picks as the Clippers gave away to get Paul George from Oklahoma City when they made that trade So I don’t think those situations are are comparable Like I said worth a risk for a player like Giannis Miveres 15 says there is nothing log logical about this trade if Barnes is involved So where some discussions have come up about the Giannis trade and sending Barnes to do it is like well what’s the point of sending Barnes to the Bucks like Giannis wants to come here to play with Scotty Barnes The the logic to me is pretty simple like if if Barnes is a player that is outgoing and obviously the preferences of that not to be the case but I struggle to see this trade happening if Barnes isn’t a player that is outgoing The logic in the trade is that Giannis shows up and he’s playing next to Emanuel Quickley RJ Barrett Brandingham Yaka Purle like four pretty talented players Brandingham I think is a fantastic co-star for a player like Giannis And I’ve said it many times but the Ingram fit next to Giannis reminds me a lot of the Chris Middleton fit next to Giannis which was impressive enough to win an NBA championship And honestly that team probably was good enough to win more if they had more injury luck on their side But regardless they still did win an NBA championship together They built up a a great foundation together So that’s the logic to me There is still a very good team here even if Scotty Barnes is the one to get traded Next comment comes from Eric T4807 saying “Any trade not involving Scotty makes no sense.” Yep what I said there The offer wouldn’t be appealing to Milwaukee and we’d have a completely we’d have to completely gut our roster and the fit sucks Anyways the whole idea is you get Giannis BI IQ Yak Obaji uh Troy Wall Grady Dick and all the rest of the young core let Messiah work with it Scotty Bi Giannis and the Backyard against won’t compete in this depth era So I I still think there is a chance of competitiveness with Barnes Ingram and Giannis I don’t think the Ravs are giving away as much as as Eric is suggesting with this one But there is a bit of validity to this is that if you have Barnes in the trade like first of all do the Bucks even do this trade if it’s not Barnes you can make that argument as I just did but you’re giving away a lot more of the depth The team is still good even if it is Barnes that is getting traded for Giannis And I can see the push back like you want to see how it plays out with Scotty You would feel like you’d feel like you’re missing out on that and you want to see it happen You want to see if this thing can get built up organically And I understand that completely Um I I have a different viewpoint but I understand that train of thought but I think there is and I believe I I agree with Eric there is a good team for Giannis to come to even if it is Scotty Barnes that is outgoing in this trade Iceman like Gervin says Messiah’s feet are to the fire given Seakum success in Indiana He’ll try to make a big trade this summer because he has to That’s his job to improve the team I’m not sure how much I wonder though how much Messiah is watching you know OG and Anobi have like an outstanding Eastern Conference Finals by the way for the Knicks I know they lost but OG was great I wonder how much he’s watching Sakum you know after his Eastern Conference Finals MVP I wonder how much he’s looking at these guys right now and thinking like should I have kept them i’ I’ve talked about it on on a stream on this channel where it’s like is there like a shadow of regret there the only issue I have with it is just like if we were gonna abandon the rebuild essentially half a season into the rebuild and acquire Brandingham like which look at the Brandingham I think like I’m not like upset with the trade That’s not what I’m saying here It’s just like if we were going to pivot on the rebuild so quickly Should you have just kept those guys and paid them maybe But I don’t think Messiah is looking at Seakum and defers thinking “Oh man like I’m so upset that I now I need to make a trade.” It’s his job to improve the team And I think that irregardless of how Seakkum is doing and how Indiana Pace are doing I think he regardless of Seakkum and and Anobi success in the playoffs he would have wanted to make an aggressive trade in the offseason Next comment comes from Oh boy Uh Ren Sinclings and I can actually piece together like a name This one I’m not sure Ren Sincl 5956 Anyways I’m just curious if Scotty Barnes were put on the trade block how many first round picks could he realistically be worth could the Raptors get at least three first rounders from another team for him so uh I really like this this question I thought it was really interesting The only issue with actually coming up with an answer for a question like this is that like first round picks are not equal Like three first round picks from the Washington Wizards unprotected Like I’d love that you know three protected first round picks from the Oklahoma City Thunder I wouldn’t like that Uh obviously like you know Washington sending three picks is is not realistic but the caliber of the picks coming back makes a big difference if we’re talking about like unprotected le let’s just let’s for the sake of it let’s say unprotected first round picks from a team that is in the mix for the playoffs and if you’re giving them Barnes they must feel as though they’re going to be one of the contending teams if if they’re making this trade I think in this scenario three is the floor for a trade Unprotected picks for a team that is likely going to be close to a contender if not a contender by making the trade three has got to be the minimum We’re probably looking at four in that scenario in terms of his worth But it’s a good question How much would a team like if Barnes was just getting traded i I think the minimum I think the start has to be at least three first round picks But I would love your thoughts on that one in the comments down below Next one comes from Windowman 9665 Uh and this is in reaction to the same video where uh the reports were from Brian Winhorse who said the Raptors are looking for a big fish in the offseason and he named Giannis specifically But Windowman wonders here could a big fish be a 7 foot2 18year-old in the draft maybe the rumors are we are looking to move up to ensure we get common Malawash Can’t get much bigger fish than a 7 foot2 77 wingspan Uh I don’t think so That’s kind of a funny way to look at it I don’t think so Uh the reports that are coming out suggesting that it’s not buzz to move up a trade It’s buzz to make the team better immediately and acquire big player But hey maybe they are looking at common malawage as well but the rumors are for a trade for an established NBA player for sure Okay the next three comments are going to come from the most recent video that I did on the channel where I talked about more trade rumors for the Raptors that included trade rooms associated with Kevin Durant Trey Young Lamelo Ball and Cam Johnson These are the three that we have from that one here Starting off with Nand 3596 says “Cam Johnson Trey Young are my two favorite players from the list Cam Johnson would free up almost 7 million in cap if the Raptor were to trade RJ Barrett to do it.” And that would give the Rap the opportunity to get a notable free agent in the summer Listen it would free up the chance to get a notable free agent in the summer But uh listen the Raptors we we can never bet on a free agent It’s just like we have the money to have more flexibility for trades It is we can never make a bet on free agency to add in talent But like I I like the idea for sure I still believe that Trey Young is the player the Raptor should go for Giannis absolutely crushes our depth and God knows how long he’d want to stay here with the roster surrounding him and LaMelo Ball hasn’t been healthy like at all to be able to gamble on him with this already unhealthy team So a few people said that in comments like it’s it’s tough to gamble on LaMelo knowing you’ve already got a pretty injury player seemingly in Brandon Ingram on the roster So I can understand that a little bit Uh Trey Youngo regarded as like the blue chip piece for this one here And that’s not the only comment that discussed this So I’ll actually pull up this other one here because the internet gav says Trey Young would be a huge get I think we can mask his defensive liability So a lot of people in the comments I was a little bit surprised because I feel like I’m in a bit of the minority of people who like really respects Trey Young as an NBA player So there were quite a few comments that did think like yeah if Trey Young can become available that would be a a huge get according to to people like this user here But yeah I really see the fit there for Trey Young I I can see Aaji sliding up into into the starting five You know if if RJ Baron quickly are outgoing um I could see Abji sliding starting five masking a lot of the defense there You’ve got Brandon Ingram Scotty Barnes Yaka Purle Barnes and Purle are terrific defenders Ingram release has some size Like I can see it working there and and other people are seeing it as well And that’s like the defensive end like on offense Oh my goodness How much does Trey Young unlock for this team but what if you could get Trey Young and keep RJ Bear we have Terry loves yogurt Great name Says if we trade for Trey Young I would like to see R.J staying in Toronto And I would as well The fit with R.J makes a whole lot more sense with a player like Trey Young who is such an elite floor spacer and such an elite playmaker that I think you can forgive a lot of the deficiencies in spacing and shooting with the rest of the roster Maybe part of it is still clunky but I think that there isn’t enough scoring pop there with RJ Barrett that it makes it worthwhile to keep a player like him But now I mean I guess a bit of the problem is you have four very high ball dominant players I’m not sure if this trade could happen if you don’t have Barrett involved in the deal as well for financial reasons but it would be a lot more interesting with this lineup if you were to say replace Emanuel Quickley for a respect I like I I like Emanuel Cookie a lot but respectfully if you take out Emanuel Cookie for a much better point guard Uh the the the roster does become a lot more interesting naturally of course Uh this is from now the comments for the rest of the video are going to be from the previous amateur answers which we did last Saturday We do these every Saturday So hey make sure you have smashed the like button if you’re enjoying this one and make sure you’re subscribed to keep up to date with the rest of these amateur answers going forward and all the rest of the great Raptors content on the channel The real foil says only 14 executives have won a title in the last 25 years Messiah Yuri is one of them That alone earns him more respect and patience So I think that there’s a wide level of respect for Messiah Yuri around the NBA I’m not sure if that respect exists within the hierarchy of the Raptors such as Rogers who have kind of taken over the operation here particularly Ed Rogers which is ahead of Rogers in this whole operation Ed Rogers did not want to bring Messiah Yuri back the last time his contract was up which was after the championship So tough situation here I think Messiah Yuri is good enough to warrant patience with this process We will see if the higher-ups of the Raptors feel the same way Next comment comes from ballers 980 says “The way the pace are built the Raptors would be the same with ball movement dribble drives passing and shooting It would work The Raptors are the only team to have every starter with a triple double So what kind of work for the Pacers is uh the pace at which they play which I’m not sure the Raptors share that same level of pace And I think part of the reason why is we don’t have as strong of a point guard as the Pacers do I like Quickly Is he the strongest of point guards not necessarily He’s definitely not as strong of a point guard as Tyrese Halbertton Spacing wise there is a definitive lack of spacing on the Raptors We saw that especially last season As of right now the only change to the roster for next season is Brandon Ingram coming into the team who can shoot and can space the floor Not at a super high volume So I don’t think the spacing has really uh been been upgraded by much So I I and not to mention like the lack of depth like the amount of depth the Pers have the level of defense they have in the guard positions with a player like Aaron Nesmith on the team Andrew Nemhard fantastic defender as well There’s a lot more there for the Pacers to work with So I don’t think that we should look at the Raptors like if the Pacers can do that shouldn’t we be able to do that as well i don’t see that comparison there Next comment comes from Keith Ball 6480 Says “The Raptors seem too stuck on having too many small forwards and shooting guards Not enough minutes for those players The Raptors don’t have enough point guards and centers One reason I don’t like the Ingram trade So I think the Ingram trade and this is kind of the point I wanted to make with this question here for the Ingram trade the fit obviously isn’t like fantastic Let’s be honest here Uh the fit with Ingram Barnes isn’t fantastic The reason that trade was made is that the Raptors saw an all-star caliber player available for not a really big hall in terms of a trade The Raptors did not give away much to make this trade happen They gave away salary and a 2026 Pacers pick The Pacers like I made a video talking about how the Pacers were like going in the wrong direction which helped that pick But as of right now that team is in the NBA finals that 2026 first round pick does in a weak east does not look like it is going to be valuable at all So for me like the Raptors didn’t really give much away to get Ingram So it’s more of like wow it’s so cheap you kind of have to go and buy it there for for Brandon Ingram So I do agree the fit isn’t great but that’s primarily why the Raptors made that sort of trade I do agree they’re missing centers and hopefully that is addressed and I do agree some extra point guard play would be nice to have for the team as well But that that was a thought process I believe with the Brandon Ingram trade Next comment comes from Alt Rock 17 says “I love RJ but the Raptors are in such a tough position because they have three other ball dominant players in the floor So Barnes Ingram and Quickley and uh and his defense is lacking So it’s just tough.” Yeah I that that’s that’s great way to put it That’s kind of what I kind of what I’ve tried to say as well with this whole situation on R.J why I’ve continued to say like put him in trades and mock trades and trade rumors and discussions It it it’s just as simple as that It’s it’s not a great fit It’s a shame cuz he’s good but it’s I can’t word it any better there Next comment comes from HBK Saints trade RJ for Matin and Walker Helps the Pacers get better after making the finals this year while helping our bench and a fresh start for Matine as sixman and Walker as our backup power forward So yeah I I I really like this Jarus Walker is a player I’ve been a bit pretty fond of with the injury history You know you kind of think like uh does it scare you a little bit yes it does scare me a little bit but Matin has come a little bit out of favor Like he’s still playing but he’s come a little bit out of favor the latter stages of the playoffs RJ Barrett’s a much more assured score I think he helps them a lot in the full court and with their pace I think they’d relish having the opportunity to have a player like RJ Barrett coming off the bench to help with their scoring I’m wondering if this is enough for the Raptors to say yes to but I think that there is like a pretty big level of intrigue here for the Raptors if a trade like this were to arise I do like Walker I do like Matan I worry about Benedict Math’s defense because he’s a very very poor defender and we can’t really afford to have that But the scoring punch that is available there for Matine I’m kind of interested in a trade like this and I thought that was really interesting from HBK Saint What do you think about that trade let me know in the comments down below Next one comes from chill minded Chill-minded Panther See I got there Chill-minded Panther 13 says “RJ at point Trade Scotty and Quickly for Giannis.” Uh Scotty and Quickly is quite a lot to make that trade for Giannis So for that I say no And especially like the point of RJ Barrett being a point guard I definitely say no Uh I don’t think the handles are tight enough for that position First of all the lack of a jump shot threat really makes it difficult for R.J Barrett to thrive in that position I I know there were some sessions of the season where RJ Barrett like looked good and like was playing essentially as a point guard for the Raptors but to do that for an entire season and to do it successfully for what is hopefully a winning team I just don’t agree and I don’t see that at all Next comment comes from uh TFRMDA6669 Hopefully I I’m not missing anything there saying “Why are we trying to trying to trade our best player?” This is Scotty Barnes I think he’s referring to We are not the Mavericks We came off a tanking season Give these guys some time with a new addition to cook up So making fun of the Mavericks for trading away Luca Donuch and the trade they got Anthony Davis So the difference is when the Dallas Mavericks trade away with their best player Luca Donuch they got Anthony Davis in turn As good as Anthony Davis is he’s not as good as Luca Donuch If the Raptors are trading away their best player in Scotty Barnes they’re getting Kian Attento who is much better than Scotty Barnes Not disrespectfully Barnes is like borderline all-star Giannis is an MVP candidate every single season If you’re trading away your best player and getting an even better player that’s why you do it The Mavericks trade away their best player to get an inferior player That’s why there was a problem there Last one we have for this video here J Bizzle fall J Bizzle Phall I don’t know J Biz Rap should trade Grady and Purle for Dalton Connect and Mark Williams We would actually start being a contender Purle is better than Mark Williams Number one Mark Williams is not a great defender Number two Um Grady Dick is uh Grady Dick guys is two years younger than Dalton Connect And I think he might be better than him but he is two years younger Uh I wouldn’t trade Grady Dick straight up for Dalton Connect I wouldn’t trade Yaka Pearl straight up for Mark Williams Not to mention Mark Williams failed a medical with the Lakers I’ll keep I’ll keep Yak and I’ll keep Grady Dick Weird one

The Raptors trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo would be too risky? Toronto could end up being the next Los Angeles Clippers? Masai Ujiri is ready to do something big after seeing Pascal Siakam help the Indiana Pacers get to the NBA Finals?

  1. As a raptors fan, this is going to be the best opportunity we have to have a superstar who wants to play and resign for us. Regardless of how much we all love scottie – we have to do it!

  2. I say stay the coarse , keep adding young talent and picks and assets and then take a run in 27’ free agency for Giannis. Raps would be near or at the top of his list.

  3. I looked at the thumbnail of the video and was like "who's this idiot?". Then I was like ….."oh wait…."

  4. Okay, having had some time to think about this past my knee jerk reaction. I don't want to give too much away for him. I actually am okay with including Scottie in the package for him. I think we're overspending for Scottie. He's a solid player, but he's not him. I'd love to have Giannis, but I hate to gut the team.

  5. @jakob gramegna comparing the bucks championship team to this raptors squad is laughable. they had defence and 3 pt shooting a great spacing. raptors have none of that lol. giannis on this raptors team is a 1st round bounce, if you dont realize that you are drinking the cool aid.

besides i dont see giannis in toronto, its just a means to drive up the price as giannis himself said he wants to be on a contender in a state with no income tax, and raptors are none of that.

and there will be no discounts for giannis. the bucks gm wants 4 picks 3 swaps to start the conversation.

  6. besides the rumor is giannis wants new york. and the nba likes it when big markets are successful cuz its better for ratings.

  7. Stop comparing the Demar for Kawhi trade…. Totally different situation. The Raptors traded DD and still had a really good team and assets to improve their team. They currently don’t have that.

  8. Guys. Father Time is undefeated. Gianni’s getting 50 million and dramatically falling off in performance. He’s not worth losing Scottie and Scottie. They have 5 years of growth ahead of them. We haven’t seen him with BI yet and I think you can keep your depth and build around those two. They just need a shooting big and some experience. Let’s not sell the farm yet

  9. Raps fans …how is the NBA commissioner will allowed Freak to come to Canada. Remember raise the “ Flagg”…when Raps are playing on tv only one state is watching in the USA . Eg Raps vs Boston only Boston fans will be watching . They loose money especially if Raps make it to the playoff or finals. So no it’s not happening ….I even betted my house on this same channel that Silva was not going to let Flagg come out of America .

  10. Gianni’s works around several good players,he don’t need 3 all-stars and won’t pass the ball, however the demand it would take guts one’s team he will demand the ball don’t think he will win another championship

  11. I think we should keep this team together and try to acquire Naz Reid (UFA) and Jonathan Kuminga (RFA). We would improve significantly and be competitive in the East without losing assets

  12. Raptor fans love their Drafted players way too much imo. Not trading Barnes for Giannis is dumb. It's the multiple years of 1st round picks that's most of the worry. Not Barnes and whatever bench players. If raptors drafted Paolo Banchero fans would say the same thing.

  13. I’ve been saying this since the rumours started. I’m all for trading Scottie for Giannis, but if he’s the piece going back you are only giving 1-2 firsts max.

Barnes is worth 3-4 firsts himself so I’m not then throwing another 4 firsts on top of a 23 year old all-nba caliber player

  14. Giannis is NOT worth trading Barnes + another good player + bunch of picks. Raps would have 2 maybe 3 years of prime Giannis before he really falls off. Players that rely heavily on athleticism like Giannis do not age well. I would rather go for old man KD.. who still is a top 10 player, will age well pass his prime and won't cost a lot like Giannis.

  15. We got a sweetheart deal for Kwahi. Will only do a Giannis trade if we got a similar sweetheart deal. I’m not moving true value for Giannis
