Phoenix Suns trade Kevin Durant to San Antonio Spurs — The most terrifying lineup in NBA history!
welcome to Hoops Insider where every dribble every trade and every locker room whisper becomes headline news the NBA never sleeps and neither do we let’s dive into the madness shop it or drop it because we could be gearing up for the summer of Kevin Durant here as his former teammate Draymond Green he went on the Jimmy Kimmel show and revealed that the Warriors they were actually very close Draymond said to trading for the two-time Finals MVP did you guys hear this apparently Joe Lacob the Warriors governor told Green that the deal was right there at the finish line this was obviously before Jimmy Butler was eventually acquired Chana so chop it or drop it kd almost sent back to the Warriors we got to chop this up we absolutely do because that is what What do you mean it’s It didn’t happen well I still feel like it’s interesting the fact that like okay we’re talking about KD going potentially to a new squad maybe in Texas who knows miami like the Warriors are in the mix but I think it just s sort of tells you like the Warriors understood that they needed more help i think it was going to happen and then Kevin Durant found out about it and said “I don’t want to go there.” And so the key is going to be as we go into this trade situation for the next couple of weeks how much of a role is Kevin Durant going to have as he deals with the Suns and potentially other teams on where he might go and the reason he might have a say not only because the Suns want to respect him but also because he’s got one year left on his contract and if a team wants him for more than just one year they may have to talk to him about a contract extension so Kevin is on the record as saying he wants to control the last phase of his career that’s the that’s the spot we’re in right now and that did not include the Warriors well if I’m the Suns I don’t have to respect his wishes you do not because I’m I’m at the point where I need to do what’s best for the organization i didn’t already tried this where I didn’t traded Kevin Durant and traded away draft picks and assets and all type of stuff and now I’m stuck not only with Kevin Durant trying to get rid of his contract but I’m stuck with Bradley Bill as well cuz I tried the big three so at this point since the they didn’t clean house they don’t have they don’t have to respect his wishes they get the best for the organization the ideal is they’re able to recoup some of those assets right the only path to do that because of the no trade clause that Bradley Bill has is through a Kevin Durant trade and the irony speaking of Golden State was that Jimmy Butler didn’t they say “Oh I didn’t want to go to Golden State.” But then he ends up going to Golden State because he got the extension so people change on different days the other thing is if Kevin Durant is more invested in going there and willing to extend in theory if you’re not trading him as a rental player right you can give more assets and that could be something that very much interests the Phoenix Suns who are trying to replenish Lair welcome basketball fanatics to Hoops Insider your ultimate source for the NBA’s most jaw-dropping news buckle up because today we’re diving into a seismic shift that’s rattling the league to its core the Phoenix Suns are reportedly trading Kevin Durantius the two-time Finals MVP the scoring machine the future Hall of Famer the San Antonio Spurs this isn’t just a trade it’s a cataclysm that could reshape the NBA’s future let’s unpack this bombshell and expose the chaos it’s unleashing but why is Phoenix pulling the plug on their superstar let’s dive into the Sun’s crumbling empire the Phoenix Suns are a house of cards and it’s finally collapsing under the weight of their own ambition after a disastrous 36 to 46 ease and 11th in the West missing the playin entirely the Suns are bleeding out kevin Durant at 36 still delivered an elite 26 points six rebounds and four two assists on 53% shooting including 43% from deep yet the big three experiment with Durant Devin Booker and Bradley Beal a colossal failure the Suns traded away their future draft picks assets hope for a dream that turned into a nightmare sources say the Suns tried to shop Durant at the 2025 trade deadline without his knowledge a betrayal that left him fuming arizona sports John Gambodoro dropped a bombshell durant told someone he trusts he’s headed to San Antonio why because Phoenix is a sinking ship and owner Matt Ishbia is desperate to salvage something before it’s too late their $25 million over the second apron suffocating under Bradley Beiel’s no trade clause and unmovable contract trading Durant is their only lifeline to recoup assets and avoid a decade of irrelevance this is a franchise on its knees begging for mercy the Suns gambled on star power and lost everything now they’re forced to ship out a generational talent to a rival in Texas shameful maybe necessary absolutely but where does this leave Kevin Durant let’s explore the power he wields in this trade saga kevin Durant isn’t just a pawn in this game he’s the king holding all the cards with one year left on his $54 7 million contract Durant has the leverage to dictate his future he’s made it clear he wants to control the final chapter of his career and guess what he’s not vibing with a Warriors reunion despite Draymond Green spilling on Jimmy Kimmel that Golden State was this close to bringing KD back before landing Jimmy Butler instead durant shut that down saying “I don’t want to go there savage.” Now reports from Hoopswire and Arizona Sports confirm Durant’s eyes are set on San Antonio why because the Spurs are a sleeping giant and KD sees a chance to cement his legacy alongside a generational freak in Victor Webbyama but here’s the controversial take should the Suns even care about Durant’s wishes they’re drowning in debt with no draft capital and a roster that’s a ticking time bomb respecting KD’s preferences is a luxury they can’t afford yet if they want maximum trade value they need him to commit to an extension with his new team it’s a high stakes chess match and Durant holding the board this is KD at his most powerful and his most dangerous he’s not just a player he’s a force bending the NBA to his will but will his gamble pay off or is he walking into another trap so why are the Spurs the front runners let’s break down the dynasty brewing in San Antonio the San Antonio Spurs are no strangers to dominance and they’re on the verge of building the NBA’s next dynasty picture this kevin Durant the unstoppable 611 sniper paired with Victor Webama the 74 unicorn who’s already a top five player on both ends add in De’Aran Fox acquired at the 2025 trade deadline and rookie of the year Stefan Castle and you’ve got a core that’s downright terrifying the Spurs hold the no Deer Duval two and no 14 picks in the 2025 NBA draft with mock drafts projecting they’ll snag Dylan Harper a 66 pick and roll maestro who averaged 20 points five rebounds and four assists at Ruters Durant’s fit is perfect the Spurs’ offense ranked a dismal 16th in points per game and 19th in offensive rating last season KD’s 26 six points on 53% shooting including 43% from three instant instantly transforms them into a top tier attack imagine Durant and Webyama in the front court two 7-footers with limitless range unguardable at their apex fox and Castle elite slashers feast off the spacing bill Simmons on his podcast dropped a bombshell i wouldn’t be surprised if KD to the Spurs is done already if true this deal could be announced by draft night the 25th of June 2025 sending shock waves through the league but here’s the spicy take the Spurs are getting KD on a discount because Phoenix is desperate a mock trade from SI Comm suggests the Suns could get Devin Vel Kellen Johnson the no making 14 pick the no 38 pick and a 2027 firstrounder from Atlanta that’s pennies for a superstar san Antonio keeps their no two pick grabs Harper and builds a juggernaut this is a heist and the Spurs are about to rob Phoenix blind but what’s the cost for Phoenix and can they salvage their future let’s dissect the trade’s fallout the Suns are staring into the abyss and this trade is their last gasp for survival by moving Durant they’re admitting defeat but it’s their only shot to climb out of the financial grave they dug a proposed deal nets them Deon Vassel a 24year-old sharpshooter averaging 17 seven points last season and Kell Johnson a 25-year-old forward with 12 seven points on 48% shooting plus the no 14 and no 38 picks in 2025 and a 2027 firstrounder it’s not a king’s ransom but it’s a lifeline for a team with no draft picks until 2030 here’s the brutal truth the Suns botched this they sold their soul for a big three that flopped and now they’re scavenging scraps vassel and Johnson are solid but they’re not franchise saviors the picks decent but not game changers phoenix is rebuilding on the fly and it’s a painful humbling process fans are furious and rightfully so this is a betrayal of trust the Suns must act fast before Durant’s value tanks further as his contract nears its end if they fumble this they’re doomed to a decade of mediocrity this is a franchise fighting for its life will they rise from the ashes or burn out forever as the NBA holds its breath what does this mean for the league let’s wrap this up with a bold prediction the Kevin Durant trade to San Antonio isn’t just a deal it’s a revolution the Spurs are poised to dominate while the Suns scramble to survive this is the NBA at its most cutthroat and we’re witnessing history unfold what do you think Hoops Insider fam is KD the key to a Spurs dynasty or is Phoenix According to various reports, KD to Spurs is a done deal.
If KD wants to go to the Spurs, then the odds are better he goes there than anyone else. Esp if he tells any other team other than the Spurs that he is not going to sign an extension. He could also make the locker room toxic if he isn't happy.
Mat Ishbia is a member of the tribe and screwed up the Suns. Proved he is a meddling owner, which is fine if you know wtf you are doing. But Ishbia is the Jerry Jones of the NBA.
Spurs are not going to give up a Hawks 1RP or the #2 pick. They would also make a mistake extending an aging Hall of Famer at $50mil/year. Spurs should hold fast at giving the Suns Vassell-Johnson and #14 pick.
