Miami Heat Trade Rumors: Kevin Durant Update + TRADE For Derrick White?

[Music] we got a loaded show with trade rumors around the Miami Heat i am Nick Rolloff host of the Heat Report here by Chat Sports we have a small Kevin Durant update that I did want to share with people that people might find very interesting plus Derek White the Boston Celtics guard could he be available on the trade market and should Miami pursue the alldefensive guard we’ll start with Kevin Durant because his teams and destination list could have been sneakily ranked because Eddie Gonzalez someone close to KD in that situation said on his playback stream during the NBA Finals the list of teams in order potentially of where KD could land it’s hard to interpret what he meant by this we’ll talk more about it here in a second but listen I love the Miami Heat i love talking about them every single day and if you want me to continue to put out videos every single day this off season hit the like button my bosses want to see the channel get more likes help me out i want to continue making daily content so just take one second and hit that thumbs up icon let’s get into what Eddie Gonzalez said he was on playback and kind of just said Spurs Timberwolves Heat ranked like it was so quick the way he said it i saw the clip it was on Twitter so you can go and search it if for it if you want but that to me was an indication of where things may stand as of June 11th which is that Wednesday night when Eddie Gonzalez said this now San Antonio has been the team predicted by most to land Kevin Durant and been the number one option but I do want to make this clear that it’s unclear if that is KD’s preferred spots ranked or that one two three list is ranked in terms of the most likely of happening i think you could look at it either way to be honest because San Antonio has been the number one spot where it’s been rumored that KD wants to play in the most likely that trades for Durant the number two team is the Timberwolves which I think that could make sense too they’re looking to upgrade around Anthony Edwards and get better from Julius Randall at that power forward position and Katie and Ant have a really good relationship so I could see the Timberwolves being number two on the likely and preferred spots and Miami being number three that doesn’t shock me either because we always know that he’s wanted to play in Miami we know the Heat want to trade for KD so it could make sense that they are that third team trailing the Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs in terms of likely landing KD or KD’s preferred destination so I think either way you look at it you can justify that being the list now I do think Miami’s trade package is better than Minnesota’s at this point so I would put them number two and maybe the most likely but I believe San Antonio is going to trade for KD that has been what I’ve been saying for the most part over the past couple of weeks that it just feels like it’s a matter of time until the Spurs end up packaging Devin Bell’s salary in the 14th overall pick to get KD alongside Darren Fox when Stefan Castle and potentially that number two pick but there is buzz out there maybe they can trade it to 76ers who knows either way sounds like to me I think KD is ultimately a spur but some Heat fans don’t even want to trade for Kevin Durant i would be very much open to it i have my reservations about him coming to Miami but we know the Heat are a team that wants to bring stars to the Miami to put butts and seats and Katie would make the Heat team better it would bring a lot of eyeballs to the team so I could see why the Miami Heat want to do it but do you want to do it type Y for yes type N for no let’s move over to the second trade rumor on today’s show could the Heat trade for the Boston Celtics guard Derek White i think this is a fascinating idea and I have long talked about Derek White being a perfect player for the Miami Heat he does everything that Miami wants in a basketball player and some of you might be surprised that the Celtics would even think about trading Derek White i actually agree with that but Sham Shiran shared some light on the situation saying “Are teams making big offers and calling about Jaylen Brown and Derek White?” 100% the Celtics prefer not to trade them from my understanding but listen if they get a big offer they have to look at everything and I think they’re going to get you know offers on the three guys they’re focused on they’re going to get offers potentially on Derrick White and Jaylen Brown and I think between now and the draft and free agency they’re going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective i find this interesting we’ve talked about how the Celtics are likely going to have like a gap year with Jason Tatum being out for all if not most of the 2526 season with that torn Achilles and there are reports out there that everything is on the table for the Celtics in terms of trading players away outside of Jason Tatum it is widely known that the Celtics are trying to trade Kristoff Sporzingis they’re trying to trade Sam Hower and they’re even trying to trade Drew Holiday i think Drew Holidayiday is the likely player to stay on the Celtics out of those three players I just mentioned but they are trying to get rid of all of them kind of get underneath the tax to save themselves in the future while they know they probably can’t compete for a championship next year due to Tatum’s injury so maybe they go a step further and trade one of their top three players because Derek White in my opinion is their third best player behind Brown and Tatum without a doubt and just ultimately say “Okay we’re not going to compete we’ll take max value in return on one of our guys like White or Brown and then just build around Tatum when he comes back.” Derek White would be perfect in Miami what is required and expected to be a player on the Miami Heat roster you got to be able to work hard value winning and defend that is usually what the three things are required the most from a Heat player derek White checks all of those boxes he has been absolutely phenomenal over the last four seasons he was traded during the 202122 season so he spent half the year with San Antonio half the year with Boston but has spent the last three full seasons on the Celtics and he has borderline become a folk hero in Boston the way they love this man and the way he plays basketball and based off how you just see how he’s been able to improve year after year in that Boston Celtics scheme it makes sense why Boston values him at such a high level when he’s able to shoot consistently 40% from three give you 15 points per game and play elite level defense like that is the thing that I think gets most overlooked with Derrick White and maybe overlooked isn’t the right way to say it but he is an allNBA level defender he has made the AllNBA defensive team two of the last three seasons as a member of the Boston Celtics he is so good in the role that he has as that third guy being perfect next to Jaylen Brown and Tatum who play that three and four for them derrick White at the two and obviously Drew Holidayiday has been the one but I think Derrick White could be a perfect two guard in Miami if you convert Tyler Hero to your lead ball handler and creator at that number one spot like he’s got that perfect size next to Hero sure is he a little bit shorter at 6’4 yeah but I’m not too concerned about that and based off what we’ve seen over the last three four years I don’t think anyone would be concerned about that because he’s been able to defend one through three on the perimeter due to his unbelievably long wingspan i mean a plus 10 wingspan are you serious Derek White are you kidding that is so damn impressive and I know it’s something you can’t teach but it’s nice and I’m always someone who likes the wingspan and and I just mentioned it on the video a second ago he has two allNBA defensive teams in the last three seasons both of them were on the second team so not a top five defender but he has been recognized as a top 10 defender on the planet in two of the last three years and he could have easily been on there again this season derek White is as good as it gets defensively as a connective piece and as a shooter and he comes up big in close games playoff games as well we’ll take a look Heat join the family today i alluded to it just a second ago but Derek White is a big- time player he shows up in the biggest moments whether it is the playoffs whether it is the finals whether it is late in the fourth quarter during a regular season game ever since he was traded to the Celtics he has been a staple in their rotation during the postseason so much over the last four seasons he has almost amassed a full 82 game season in the playoffs because Boston has consistently made deep runs over the last four years in 73 playoff games with the Celtics he is a career average of 13 and a half points a game while shooting 45% from the field when you round up and 40% from three the guy just shows up and makes plays and I don’t want to beat a dead horse here but this is also pairing up with all NBA level defense he is the definition of a 16 game player and if you do not know what that phrase means you need to win 16 games in the NBA playoffs to win a championship four and four series right and players are also always defined by their legacy by how much teams want to pay them in free agency and fee extensions based on how they play in the playoffs and if they can contribute to 16 wins in the postseason derek White has already done that once with the Celtics and he has helped them go on deep playoff runs multiple times we know what happened in the Eastern Conference Finals against Miami during that 22 23 run gives me PTSD bringing it up but what he did in game six with that put back buzzer beating layup thank god the Heat won in game seven because if they ultimately blew that 3-0 lead in that Eastern Conference Finals I don’t think I would ever be able to show my face in public again but what would it take to trade for Derrick White i don’t think Heat fans are going to like this but this is what it would cost in my opinion for the Heat to land Derrick White I think you would have to offer salary a solid young player and pretty heavy draft capital so the Celtics are currently a second apron team they cannot take more salary in than what Derek White makes which is $28 million this season they also can’t aggregate contracts in a trade to make it work so it would be Derek White for Nicoola Yoic that young player Duncan Robinson who makes $ 199.8 million which could be useful for Boston because if they are trying to get underneath the tax Duncan Robinson could be acquired for the full $19.8 million then due to his ETO and his contract they could wave him and save $10 million which could help them get underneath one of the two aprons and then in order to get the deal officially done because I don’t think Yoic and salary is good enough I think you would attach two first round picks and maybe even another pick swap you’d have to trade the 20th pick probably a future pick and I don’t even think that would be enough to get it done i think you’d have to add a sweetener potentially of a pick swap in the first round Boston Celtics choice and maybe 2028 or 2029 draft the truth is this Derek White is a very expensive asset he is beloved by the fan base he is beloved in that front office and he is the perfect third option to help Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum and as they continue to build around Tatum and Brown I do not think they are in the business of getting rid of Derek White plus you add in the fact that Miami and Boston are rivals in the NBA you’re going to have to pay an even bigger tax to acquire one of those top players from their team that is just simply how it works unfortunately in the NBA so I don’t think it would become a cheap trade if the Heat wanted to acquire Derek White so before I give you my official thoughts on trading for Derrick White would you make this deal yoic Duncan two first and a swap for the AllNBA level defending guard type A for accept type D for decline let me know your thoughts down below i’ll be honest even though I’ve spoken how highly and how good Derrick White is and how he would fit in Miami perfectly I am not trading for Derek White i’d love to add him to the Heat roster but the truth is adding him as your third option to Bam and Hero does that get you over the top in the Eastern Conference i think you would have to make a move alongside Derek White so maybe you could then trade a second round pick and salary like Rosier and Hawz for a Demard Rosen and maybe your off seasonason is that where you have a now lineup of Derek White Tyler Herro Demard Rosen Bam and KL Wear maybe that is what an offseason looks like for Miami and I then could be probably talked into that being at the top of the Eastern Conference so if you told me you got another good player on the cheap alongside White maybe but if you are making the trade for Derek White alone I don’t think giving up two first round picks plus control of your own pick in another year plus Nola Yoic is worth it for a player that is a really really really really elite complimentary piece but probably
