coached your your the WCK League team like Romans team uh you know was six and under this local say your young son and they’re just calling cuz they heard you know did a pretty good job coaching the team and I was like what was his what was his name she’s like his name is Leon Rose he’s requesting permission uh to speak with you but now she denied the she denied the request she said we’re we’re good I don’t I don’t want you to speak to him right now so uh we’re good we’re happy where we’re at and HB and uh yeah it’s pretty good so today’s episode we’ll talk about uh Kobe White for Daniel Gaffford potential trade our lockdown bulls guys Pat my buddy talked about it and uh they think Gaffford is one of the best trade targets they could go after we think Kobe White’s one of the best trade targets the Mavs can go after so we’ll talk about that we’ll also get into Kevin Durant how he could change the landscape to the West but let’s start here isaac Harris the Knicks officially requested permission to interview Jason Kidd and then the Mavs like many thought declined and officially declined and then you move on right it’s done right it’s over right no more here’s the thing james Edwards of the Athletic who covers the Knicks reported that he doesn’t think that it’s done he thinks that the Knicks will take that first no and will not take it as a full no and they will go back and and approach the Mavericks again at some point and so now where we are with this story is it’s on it’s on the Knicks if they want to try and do it again if they want to go after Jason K again if they’re really dead set on on getting Jason K being their coach then go for it and then we’ll talk about it then but it’s nothing it’s nothing it’s done now for now but we’ll see and this all happened because we do believe that Jason G did have interest in this job and that’s why this was the the quoteunquote saga that it ended up being yeah yeah yeah i’m just ready for it to be done so it could be but it could also not be either way if he’s in New York let’s just be done with it if he’s in here let’s be done with it it’s just it’s carried on too far and some of it’s just been unnecessary on Dallas’s side and yeah it’s just it’s just got it’s messy for no reason we have a a freaking Cooper flag coming to town next week and uh then we have him getting drafted in a Mavs hat in a couple weeks so that should be the only focus right now absolutely and so until the Knicks make it a story again we’re going to keep moving on bec until they hire coach it is what it is so let’s talk about Kevin Durant the big story that came out today was Sham Shirania posted an a report phoenix Suns and Kevin Durant’s business partner boardroom CEO great name drop there rich Climate have met multiple times over the past week and are sifting through trade scenarios sources told ESPN two sides are expected to work out a you know work out a deal on potential destinations they’ve brought up mainly feature the Houston Rockets the San Antonio Spurs the Miami Heat and Jason kids New York Knicks just kidding several wild card suitors have made inquiries under the past 7 to 10 days so I’m going to start by saying this I’m going to give the Mavs credit because a couple weeks ago even like a month ago or maybe more than that we were talking about Well the Mavs are going all in they’re going all in with Anthony Davis they made this trade they want to be a win now team they’re going all in they might as well just go get Kevin Durant and we talked about Kevin Durant for like a week when because that was a potential scenario he was getting he was getting traded around the deadline and we’re like “All right you might as well take some of your pieces trade for Kevin Durant Kyrie Kevin Durant Anthony Davis sounds fun let’s go for it you might as well you’re all in now.” And now the Mavericks have Cooper flag things have changed kyrie got injured and now we’re like “Okay this is a different scenario for the Mavericks.” And I’m glad that the Mavericks are not pursuing Kevin Durant they could still They have been a team that has worked in the shadows we’ve learned that the last couple of peers i’m not going to put anything past them but to to not be one of the teams that’s like “Oh the Mavericks are are desperately wanting to go after Kevin Durant,” I think is a positive thing because I think it shows how they’re focus what they’re focused on and it’s the right things yeah i mean and it on paper it’s like oh he fits everything that Nico would want to go after uh for this like win now timeline and all of that but yeah I mean Dallas not being on it you know we have these you know these teams that are interested um I think Sham said that Minnesota was part of that too um yeah Minnesota New York the Heat the Spurs and the Rockets oh okay okay um when you look at it just just out of curiosity you tell me like uh the we don’t know what the exact pack packages look like from these teams but try to take the like the rest of the rosters and teams out of it and I just throw at you these types of packages which one is like the most appealing to you like Julius Randall and picks Devin Vel and pick 14 you know there’s salary fillers and stuff in there but like the main pieces of this Wiggins We wear Andrew yeah wiggins Wear and Hakez and then like Jaylen Green some combination of Jaylen Green the 10th pick Dylan Brooks maybe i don’t know like these are the type of packages I think it’s going to be i don’t think that we’re going to get some crazy multiple first you know one or two young players i don’t know i could be wrong but that’s just the type of deals I think it’s going to take and I don’t know i feel like San Antonio’s the probably betting favorite right now yeah that they would just go for it and and go trade like you know they have Harrison Barnes they have Vel’s contract you mentioned like Vel and you know Harrison plus Harrison Barnes contract and I don’t know throw him throw him some seconds or something like that does it doesn’t feel like it’s going to take much because Kevin Durant is going to be 37 in September and he had a great year he’s he’s still a really great player this is not like Kevin Durant’s wash it’s just just how long are you getting this player you’re probably like a couple more years and Kevin Durant has moved moved around here the last couple of years too and so I think that is is Jaylen Green Dylan Brooks and Tan too much maybe because at that you’re keeping Shenon Jabari Tari Een I mean Reed Shepard however you feel about him mhm you’re still keeping a ton of your young guys so I I don’t know that I feel like San Antonio is definitely getting some type of like second lottery pick like they’re getting some I mean not San Antonio Phoenix i think they’re getting some type of whether it’s the 10th from Houston the 14th from San Antonio i think they’re they’re gonna get some pick through there and then everybody can hype up their Jace Richardson mock drafts as far as draft a Michigan State player yeah right but it it isn’t going to be a huge trade package like it has been in the past right i don’t but this could maybe drum up a bidding war right you get a little bit more from each of these teams but I think you’re right that I don’t think it’s going to take a lot and that being said I think it’s a better thing that the Mavericks are not in this because they would they could give up contracts they have some picks they could get there they could get to the to you know the asking price for Kevin Durant I think but I’m glad they’re not doing it because it takes depth you’re seeing right now with the Pacers and and Thunder it takes depth to get Yeah to the It takes depth to get through the finals and get through the playoffs it takes different kinds of looks it takes a different approach and they It also is very hard to build a team around multiple $50 million players and Kyrie according to to Mark Stein he may go after the the three-year 40 million a year deal which I think is is a positive we talked about that a couple times already but it’s just very hard to build a team around that and so I’m glad that the Mavericks are not going up that’s my hu that’s my big take away from the KD thing even before like what it means for the other teams yeah just salary salary-wise alone it’s not as much as like Katie the player Katie the fit and you know even if Dallas did go out and traded you know three or four players to get him there’s worst case scenarios I think for me you know there’s an easy path to like talk yourself into it and be like “All right like wouldn’t have done it we we did.” Yeah it’s like wouldn’t have done it i you know I disagree but it’s like I see it and it’s you know it’s one year it’s whatever but I yes I’m glad that Dallas isn’t like attached to that and I think that you got to value especially with the how the roster is made up you got to value this depth that you have right now or what you’re going to be going for this off seasonason it’s a good move that the Mavericks are not going after Kevin Durant but other teams are how will it change the landscape of the West the Suns will he go to the East will he go to the Spurs how does that change things uh will one of the Texas teams get better let’s talk other teams that are in it the Rockets and the Spurs let’s focus on them here for a second because they’re the two teams in Texas in the Mavs division if you even care about the division if you’re listening right now think about the division the Mavs are in and if you know it then you’re probably over the age of of of something because divisions haven’t mattered in a while but if the Rockets got Kevin Durant and they went after him how does it change the Rockets in the West i mean it sucks from a Mav standpoint because I I I just personally think that’s the that’s the next step for them that’s the thing that they miss the most uh going into the playoffs and coming out of the playoffs still feel the same way because I just didn’t think Shenun was that guy i didn’t when you’re when it’s the toughest moments clutch moments and you’re relying on Fred Van Vleet just trying to draw a foul or chuck up a three or something jaylen Green was just Dylan Brooks says it’s Dylan Brooks time it’s Dylan Brooks time baby uh no so I I just I feel like he’s he’s the guy that if you can if you’re Houston and you can go get him while still keeping you know your war chest of picks with you know the young guys and everything that I think it that’s you got to go do that and and from a man that I think it sucks because they already had one of the best records in the West last year what they finished the second seed or at 52 it was it it was they they were the second but but they but they had a top four seed in the West and had a really good regular season record so you know you never want a good young regular season team to get even better and I think they would get better with Durant so it would suck they would have the bucket getter they would have like a mature person in in the locker room too they would lose a little bit with you know they have to match the salaries so you’re you’re losing some players there but it probably makes room for some other players that you mentioned as well i think they would benefit from like just even talking about the the level of offensive flow that Kevin Durant would give them compared to what Jaylen Green gives them yeah you’re losing some athleticism but you’re gaining just so many more smart shots and better shots and efficient shots and man like they would they would have a go-to thing on offense and I think it would open up space for Shangon even more i think it would help Jabari Smith to just like hang around Kevin Durant every day because that’s that’s a player I think could he could get to a Kevin Durant kind of path not not to the level of him but he’s got a mid-range jumper you know long lanky all that but there Rockets would be tough yeah i mean there’s lineups you could throw out there with I’m in let’s say Van Fleet’s on the bench or something it’s like I’m in Tares and Jabari with KD i mean they just have a lot of defensive wing options they can throw around KD that he hasn’t had in a long time so it’d be interesting to see what happens with Shingun and stuff like what do they try to do something with with him and yeah but yeah it’d suck i think it’d be a great addition for him and honestly the same thing for like San Antonio we can move to San Antonio probably it’s kind of the same thing because it’s it’s like it’s inevitable that Wimby’s teams are going to start being pretty dang good and they traded for De’Arra Fox last year but it was kind of like it was the trade to set up for the next year and to start like being good with that and to form kind of like a little mini big three there of Fox Durant and Wimi uh with all the other pieces and stuff would be nasty too and it would it’s kind of the same concept uh but kind of worse because then you’re adding a team that was at the bottom that I think if they got Durant like it would be really hard for me not to say that they’re not in the top eight like in the in the West next year uh if they had if they had them and that’s the and that’s the framework too maybe not for the other like pieces and stuff like Vel and Castle and all this stuff like it’s hard to emulate that without having multiple years in the lottery but like that’s the that’s the path you’re looking at from like a Cooper flag standpoint of hey they can reverse it’s the reverse of that the Mavs are doing the reverse of what this Well like No no no it’s more of like what I mean like Wendy Wimby on that cheap contract but that good allows you to go spend this money on trade for you Kevin Durant and a de’arren Fox and stuff so it’s like that rookie quarterback deal that allows you to spend money a wrestling roster so uh that’s what Yeah so I was thinking you h you have the young players now let’s bring in the vet championship player to like solidify all of it around them and like okay the Mavs are doing the opposite they have the vets the championship vets now let’s bring in the young guy to like lift everybody up weird be weirdly be the opposite but yeah the Spurs would be and and just think about WBY and Kevin Durant the same front court dear and Fox you know pro they’ll probably keep Stefan Castle in that deal too and they’ll have Dylan Harper coming off the bench that team would be that team would be tough they put it all together obviously and of course you’re hoping when he comes back from the injury the blood clots some sometimes that can be tricky and all that are you worried about would you be worried about Minnesota they made the Western Conference Finals two years in a row they’ve changed their team drastically from Cat to now Randall then maybe they do Kevin Durant like is Kevin Durant the the final piece the one that gets them over the hump finally i don’t know i I’m more confident of like hey Houston would be better San Antonio would be better i thought Randall played pretty dang good for him and I mean I think Finch is a really good coach he’s one of the 82 coaches that New York has permission for i just don’t I don’t know how Timber will say no right away i don’t know how confident I would be of saying like “Oh they’re for sure better.” It’d be cool to see him and you know Ant play together i think Yeah i don’t know like I said Randall on picks but like do you trade like Rudy would Phoenix take Rudy for KD kind of type thing or Rudy and Dante or I don’t know but I do think Minnesota will try really hard to go get him yeah cuz they need they need that one more bucket getter they need like one more and and Randall for as good as he was for them at times that by the end of that series he was he just couldn’t dribble like they just couldn’t ask him to dribble at all or take jump or take shots and the offense just completely dried up because he he’s just not that type of offensive player then you ask him to do different things than what he’s used to on offense and you’re like “Okay well now he’s some of this playmaking stuff surprised me.” But if you could he’s been a good playmaker since his rookie year it just is not on the level of playing against the Thunder yeah if you could have a trio on the wing of Anthony Edwards Jade McDaniels and Kevin Durant I think I think that you’re looking at from Minnesota and be like “All right can who can match us on the on the wing from two to four in a in a starting lineup?” Uh type of thing and that’d be tough almost to a sense of like well what what do we have to put at the one and the five around these guys uh but yeah I mean they’d be good i just don’t know if it’d be like drastically better just go to the I just want people to go to the free like go to Miami look into our look into our mock draft that we’re doing we’re dropping it next week um our Miami team our Miami team locked on heat they traded for Kevin Durant with locked on Suns all all of our all of us act as the GMs and it was Durant to Miami and the Suns get Andrew Wiggins Duncan Robinson Khlo Wear they got a first round pick for Miami 2030 and a swap in 2029 it’s a It’s a pretty good deal for Durant for the for the Suns and then Yeah yeah the The Heat though they’re just like “All right now we have Tyler Herro Kevin Durant bam out of bio it’s interesting go check out the uh the mock the mock draft when it drops next week.” And uh hear their hear their talks about it i was on the desk with Raphael and with Wes Goldberg locks on Heat so we got to we got to chop it up about this trade because it was very funny because it had nothing to do with the mock draft but they still Yeah there’s no pick no no no pick i do think Miami’s I think Miami’s package is better than Minnesota what Minnesota will be able to offer uh because I do like wear and I think would be great to have some of those future picks and stuff i still think San Antonio and Houston would have the ability to outbid Miami it would take you know risk climate and them to say like we want to be in South Beach yeah for for sure which it sounds like Kevin Rant is getting some kind of say in this because he was nearly traded in the report he said he was nearly traded to the Warriors in February but he made it clear that he was not interested in reunion so like it’s not like the Suns are saying it’s our way or the highway he gets some kind of say in it so that is that is in effect and that that does seem to matter for them coming up also one one more thing also wonder what what the next contract will be for him and if that’s playing into it if a San Antonio’s like we’ll give you a two-year extension on top of that for 50 million he might pursue that over Miami so anyway in the in the report Sean says he’ll be eligible to sign a 2-year contract uh worth as much as 122 million oh so close 60 million if he were to wait 6 months after the trade he could sign a two-year extension worth up to 124 million which is two more million feels like that was an unnecessary added thing in there coming up the locked on Bulls guys think that they should about it but we also have a job and and we’re a day you remember the Luca trade yeah um that literally what we what we uh promote to uh listeners Mavs fans advertisements is like we bring the latest Mavs news every single day and this thing latest Mavs news every day so we’ll talk about the thing happening and that that was the thing happening we’ve been talking about all summer that the Mavs need to trade for another guard kobe White has kind of been our realistic number one option for that isaac wants it so bad because he’s a big North Carolina guy and he would work he’s a 6’5 guard that can score that can handle the ball could also play next to Kyrie come off the bench could start either way he’s been very good for the Bulls like they’ve talked about him very highly over on Locked on Bulls i listen to that show a lot and uh let’s hear what Pat the designer my guy has to say about they’re trying to decide all right we got three trade targets for us we have Daniel Gaffford Cam Whitmore and Jonathan Kaminga they’re like “All right these are the three different players that we could go after which one would he rather have?” And this is his rationale it’s who they are right now the name that probably helps you the most is Daniel Gaford um reason being is just he just fits in you don’t have to ask him to do much um literally he is the king of I’m not going out there looking for shots i’m just going to grab this thing off the glass what what uh what Shaq what Kobe told Shaq get it off the glass like like he’s the king of get it off the glass so you know I I think that um Gaffford is is the one probably who runs the floor the best um who fits in the best who’s willing I I think the thing is too right Gaffford is not looking to be a star jonathan Kaming you talked about how Kuminga and Cam Whitmore they’re looking to get their own shot they’re trying to do that they’ve already got a couple of guards and stuff there but to me I think the the Kobe White for Daniel Gaffford trade straight up it works the Mavs would save a little money on it so they could they could send somebody else in it if they if they wanted to but that one that one works and they’re both expiring contracts like there’s just a lot of parallel right here yeah i mean what gaffford’s a year older than than Kobe White it feels like he is probably it feels like he’s older more than that but uh being around the same age just different positions and uh I I mean obviously I would be fully down for this like you say Kobe White’s 25 he’s got the size and stuff um that you know Chicago’s got to figure out like are you going to pay both of of those guards they traded for Josh Giddy the famous Caruso trade in which everyone roasted Chicago for that trade i was like really wasn’t that bad of a trade um but they got to figure out what to do with Giddy this offseason restrict a free agent so if you’re going to dish out a ton of money to him are you how committed are you to that backcourt if you’re going to hand Kobe White a new deal because he’s going to be an expiring contract this coming season so or next season uh h I don’t know how to even word that this coming season next season we’re still in this season i know as soon as the soon as the financial year turns over yes and then then they have the 12th pick and they could they can pick another guard there’s a bunch of guards in that range right you’re you know Yakonis from from Illinois Jeremiah Fears probably in that range like you know Jace Richardson maybe even uh Jaor Demond like there’s a bunch of guards in that range too it’d be funny if they went with Jor Demon and had Josh Giddy they’re like very similar very similar players spider-man meme yeah it’s like we want to play the exact same way no matter who’s on the floor josh Giddy or Jagor Deon let let me let me ask you this question at Kobe White cuz I think I’ve seen some people throw out there like “Dude I don’t want to pay him like this massive deal once you get him because obviously if you’re trading for him you want to try to commit to to pay.” Now I will say if it’s just a straight Gaffford for Kobe White straight up I think you make that deal even without a commitment to like I’m going to pay him like a big deal uh because either way you’re gonna have to like figure out if I think if you’re attaching a first round pick you’re attaching more stuff to Gaffer to get Kobe it feels like you got to attach something more for with G Daniel Gaffer to get Kobe White but could be wrong i’d be happy to be wrong in this scenario u but let me throw at you some things i was looking at other guards um in the range of like money that I feel like if you’re his agent you’re going to Chicago with or other teams and saying this is what we’re going for like you’re not on the Tyrese Maxi Dear and Fox level like you’re not going to get that type of money right no no okay so then after that it feels weird because this Emanuel Quickley contract is like this like outlier that New York gave him and he makes like $32 million a year and I was like dude I haven’t even seen a Quickly highlight it feels like in two years well he’s been hurt a lot for the Raptors and then he’s been quote unquote hurt for the Raptors where they like take him out uh but it but you start looking at a couple of these other players here that I think his agents probably going to look at and say “Hey this is the type of money we want.” Um dear Derek White is at 28 um but Dererick White I think is a better player than him but like Dererick White’s next contract starts in next season at that 28 and then goes up but it’s like I’m looking at Anthony Simons who’s around is right at that $25 million number i’m looking at Terry Roger that’s at 24 million so if I’m his agent I think he’s looking at like that bump up to that 20 to 25 range and I think he would be worth it right like I’m not I don’t I’m not paying Kobe White 30 million a year but you’re not going to get Kobe White at 16 million a year either so I think it’s going to be at that like 20 to 24 range and honestly with how the salary cap’s going and everything I would do it i would like I would obviously I would I like Kobe White the player and everything so uh I would trademax for him yeah yeah i’d put that that would hurt you personally though i feel like it’s true it would but I just for another I’ve said this before but I think Kobe White’s the perfect type of guard that you can go get right now in the offseason that he bridges the gap for Kyrie to come back he’s he has been used to like he can come off the bench too he can play with Kyrie he’s big enough to play with Kyrie like I think you trust him in playoff games and stuff you have a reliable better younger version of what Spencer Denwitty is in a Kobe White so I I just I think he just fits every bit of the bill that you’re going that you could get this off seasonason and it’s a guard long term right that you could play obviously play with Cooper Flag could make him better and Cooper Flag could make him better and all that like you need to start investing in a longer term guard you know player here because the Mavericks have Kyrie who’s going to be 34 coming off of the injury and all that he’s going to be good for right now but they need to start looking into the future for that for sure and then the Mavs like if you look at their cap sheet Gaffford and PJ Washington come off the books after the after this year gaffford you’d be sending in the trade but PJ Washington you have to figure out what to do with him could you pay 20 million to both PJ and 25 to Kobe White probably not you’ve also got Klay Thompson’s klay Thompson would be $17 million expiring not this not this upcoming season but the next one and so maybe dump that contract so you can keep those two like there there are ways I think that they could make it work as well oh yeah for sure with this and so yeah this is this is the one I’m all in on if they if they can do this and get this done again would would hurt to lose Gaffford but you got to trade somebody good to get somebody good back and it sounds like the Bulls are interested in Daniel Gaffford because they need a center too got V and that’s like kind of it they got he’s going to be what 36 no I think Gaffer would be great in Chicago yeah he’d be the starting center and it’d be going back to Chicago and stuff and I think you know I think you mentioned it the other day stein said it at DLS of about the they their preference is to keep PJ and you know and and Gaffford it’s like well yeah of course i think they would love to keep him how how good of a guard do you want to go get because yes you can keep Daniel Gaffford and PJ Washington but the replacement you for Kyrie until Kyrie comes back is going to be minimums is going to be Brandon Williams and whatever minimums you can bring in yeah yeah dante Exom Malcolm Brogman something like that uh if now I could see them going that route it would surprise me a little bit but you could go that route and still keep those two guys but if you want something better than that a Kobe White or a step up from a minimum you’re gonna have to trade probably one of one of those guys that’s right that’s a trade that I’m totally down for i’d be I’d be so excited it would hit very hard on this show
