Mavs Face Roster CONUNDRUM with PJ Washington’s Extension | Dallas Mavericks Podcast

on today’s show a lot changed between the Luca trade to the Cooper flag draft lottery but no single player’s life changed on the Mavericks more than maybe PJ Washington we’ll explain why in today’s locked on the house stop it stop the number one pick will go on the Dallas Mavericks cooper flag will fly in Dallas you are locked on your daily Mavericks podcast of the Locked on Podcast Network your team everyday i’m going to get a city like back and welcome you are locked on at the Dallas Mavericks your team every day my name is Nick Angstead media member covering the Dallas Mavericks for 10 years thanks for being an everydayer making lock on Mavs your first listen today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel right now new customers can get $200 in bonus bets and your first $5 bet wins joining me as always my co-host medium member cover the Mavs for 10 years right alongside me the PJ person the one more thinking what you got for me Isaac Harris so I was talking to my son before this he was like “Do you have to record?” And I said “Yes I do.” He said “Why?” I said “To make money.” And he was like And then he says You didn’t even just say “For the love of the game.” He just went straight love after this no and then he goes “Will you share Will you share that with me and my sister?” I was like “Where do you think this money goes this money always freaking goes to you and uh but then you know I play it along i say “Hey uh what do you need the money for?” He’s like “Legos.” Oh I that’s what I need the money for that’s why that’s You need to call Uncle Nick i was going to say that’s why I’m doing this is for Lego money so me and your six-year-old son have that in that in common for sure today’s episode we’re going to get into PJ Washington i want to talk about his contract his extension we’ve been talking about his kind of like amorphous his new contract extension what’s it going to be so I want to give some numbers on it and kind of put into perspective what it could look like we’ll also talk about his role and what the maps need from PJ now that his world has completely changed and that’s where I want to start is that maybe from the time of the the Luca trade to the draft lottery nobody on the on the Maverick current player on the Mavericks life changed more than Luca Donic be than PJ than PJ Washington because he went from this player on the finals team and through the playoffs that was so essential he was third on the team in minutes he had to play so much he had had to start games close games he was a swing player in that Thunder series you’re seeing right now if you can have a player that can hit a bunch of threes or can hit a bunch of shots like like like a Benedict Mathan right now if you have that type of player you can beat this Thunder team and PJ was that guy we have many people who said “Oh the Mavs are just PJ Merchants and all they did was just PJ just hit every shot and then they beat the Thunder.” It’s not exactly what happened but PJ swung that series absolutely i agree with that and so you’re looking at PJ who was that important of a player was adding to the culture the mentality of this team the toughness with the Clippers series where he was standing on business and that started and everything and now you bring in Anthony Davis and so okay PJ normally plays the four anthony Davis really wants to play the four the Mavs already have two centers so PJ moves down to the three then they get Cooper flag now what happens to PJ Washington is he coming off the bench is Cooper Flag playing the two like Jason Gidd has suggested that that he may play the two probably not full-time pj’s not playing the two either and so now honestly I’m looking at PJ Washington as a bench player for this Mavericks team even though he’ll probably close games and he’ll still be an important part of this team it just doesn’t seem like he’s as essential as he was like five months ago yeah it’s crazy when you think about it of they bring him over in this trade and it was basically the the botched Grant Williams signing you know and it was everything that they were wanting in that spot is like “Hey we need the we need a guy to play this um I might say small ball but like this the smaller Ford role.” Stretch like a stretch for a stretch four there you go play the stretch four role hit some threes um be another source of offense the Grant Williams signing did not work so that’s why Nico went back to the drawing board at the at that trade deadline two trade deadlines ago and it’s why Sautu left and this was this was the Kyle Koozma deadline too right dallas goes after Kyle Koosma first they get word that Kyle Kosma doesn’t really want to come here thank god and so they kind of shift their their focus to Charlotte and was like “All right we’ll attach a pick to Grant Williams to to swap him out for PJ Washington.” And PJ at that time had a couple years left in his deal kind of like a a weird like what type of player is he in Charlotte everybody you know Mavs fans immediately went to this 40 you know point game that he had a few weeks prior it’s like that could be the guy that you’re getting who was that the what who was that against i honestly don’t remember it was the Thunder wasn’t it no oh was it really no way yeah I’m pretty sure so you know that’s getting referenced but it’s also Charlotte so then you’re like well how what do you take to be true it was what do you take to be true for a guy in in Charlotte and it is also like at that point everybody well I think everybody is now too is looking for the Aaron their Aaron Gordon they’re looking for the guy that’s maybe miscast in a different type of role that’s in this like kind of losing type of situation but if you brought him to like a defined role on a winning team he would be a missing piece and excel in his career and find the right fit so they make the trade that’s the Gaffford you know deadline too and it just fits great like that he is exactly what they needed and he he brought defensive versatility hitting threes standing on business he had playoff moments captured everyone’s hearts and even going into this season and you know you go into this season this past season and it’s like there was injuries with Luca there was a little bit with Kyrie uh you know obviously Dererick Lively when secretly like if you talk to the right people they’re like “Hey PJ’s like kind of the most irreplaceable guy on this team we don’t have another guy on this team that’s that gives you what PJ is omax just wasn’t ready.” And you know you look at this past season he has shot 38% from from three uh grabbed almost eight rebounds a game 14 15 points a game like it’s everything that you asked of him and envisioned of him making $15 million a year so he has this season or he’s going in I mean think of it he’s going into Christmas January Luca’s on the team at Christmas obviously Luca gets hurt but you know they’re like pretty confident of like hey we just came off the finals he knows that the next season is going to be this like contract year and it’s like all right I’m really excelling in my role in Dallas like I’m I’m kind of hitting it out of the park they love me I love them I’m fitting this role next to Luca and then bam the Luca trade happens so like you said it’s like you get this Anthony Anthony Davis and it’s like PJ’s been excelling at the four so that was one hit and then the lottery stuff with Cooper Flag so you can’t imagine i mean he’s such a cool dude and you know he like he’s never going to probably post some video like this sucks you know or something like that but it’s like going into a contract year and now not only are you like changing positions in a way but you might change positions again like you like people want to do the whole like is Cooper Flag going to play a two PJ Wash play a three like it could be PJ at the like if they’re going to play Cooper Flag and PJ together with AD and Lively on the floor then PJ would be the two it would be hard to distinguish like who’s the two in that scenario because it’s a matter of who’s going to guard the opposing point guard that’s the biggest issue and so it is kind of it’s a huge bummer for him individually that this situation that he had the love in he’s excelled in and helped the team go to the finals that now it’s kind of like well what’s my role here moving forward so then I take the question should PJ want to stay with the Mavs now right like that’s that’s where I kind of go next with it because you start to think through that you said it’s you said it like it’s kind of a bummer for him personally but I don’t know like I still I still feel like he can this is still a winning situation for him he was in Charlotte for all those years he had never played in the playoffs he was excited to play in the playoffs this was his team growing up he loved the Mavericks grew up around here and like if it if it’s not sentimental value like I don’t know if it’s the if if it’s the best professional like choice for him to want to stay here sign some kind of extension and if you’re the Mavericks how do you sign him to an extension knowing that you’ve got Cooper Flag for that long you’ve got Anthony Davis for at least the next you know two years after after this one and you also still have you know you still have Naja Marshall under contract you got Clay still you got Cayla Martin you’ve got Max Christie you’ve got a bunch of guys signed into the like that are signed for a little while it’s just an interesting it’s an interesting spot for for leverage for either one of them like all right so it’s like PJ Washington lost a lot of leverage with the Mavericks over this span of time I guess is what I’m trying to get at yeah and it’s it’s a bummer because well I’ll just say this if I’m Dallas I’m bringing him back at all costs on extension i I think the bringing AD in and that trade and shift you know swapping out Luca for AD and then winning the lottery and all that if I had a number that I was going to give PJ Washington if I was the Mavs I would not deviate from that number i am comfortable and willing and I think you see because you see teams like OKC you see teams like Indiana you see I mean you can never have enough of these guys i would invest the money into him and I would say right now whatever extension numbers that we I don’t know if they possibly talked about him in the past under the table or whatever i’m not I’m not going away from that i’m willing to to pay him and that’s where because I think his position and what he brings even if he has to come off the bench but I don’t think like I think you have to you have to have players like PJ Washington to win at a high level and he’s fit here and done everything you can you’ve asked of him and I just he’s 20 he’s going to be 27 next year i I’m not giving away PJ Washington i’m not even trying to trade him over the next coming weeks or this off season i want to lock him up for an extension yeah you you close with PJ Washington if you lose PJ Washington it’s lock down it’s Anthony Davis a thing a Thunder couldn’t do it’s Anthony Davis it’s probably Flag it’s PJ it’s Kyrie Irving and then it’s whatever other guard is fit for for that specific thing do you need more shooting okay bring in Clay okay do you need more perimeter defense you bring in Caleb Martin or if you need more attacking you bring in Naji Marshall you you that’s that’s the rotating spot if this is going to be the roster that is playing in a playoff series next year and PJ is absolutely part of that and so he he is still like an essential part of this group it just is less essential than it was coming up what does that mean for a contract extension what kind of numbers could he get talk about that and more coming up [Music] today’s episode of Lockdown Mavs brought to you by a new one lollipop it’s a new kind of soda I got the crisp apple right here isaac you got the you got the grape classic grape baby it is so good i’m not going to lie i had never tried these before i’m loving them i’m I like them so much and the things that I like about them first of all the taste i started to look through some of like the macros the numbers the nutrition and all that kind of stuff and I was like there’s no way I’m going to like this all the like usually these health these health brands you don’t like right two to five grams of sugar in each one of them you get like 44 grams in like a Coke or a Mountain Dew or something like that nine grams of prebiotic fiber as well in every can if you’re if you’re out there trying to get your protein trying to get your fiber two lollipops give you like 19 like 18 grams of fiber that’s absolutely insane i love them they’ve got the crisp apple the cola honestly to me like doesn’t taste that different from a Coke i’m not like a soda connoisseur so So come after me if if you’re somebody like that but I love the apple love the love the cola the root beer one is good which ones have you liked oh grape crisp apple um I think when you start to get older you care about your digestive health% and listening we have the text line 2146438637 and to all that celebrate our version of Flag Day Flag Day is is tomorrow it’s th is is Saturday so shout out to Cooper Flag Day that’s what that’s what I’m going to call it i don’t know i don’t know how anybody else is celebrating out there there’s some there’s some some ways people are celebrating down there but we’re going to celebrate by appreciating Cooper Cooper flag cooper flag on Saturday all right we’re talking about PJ Washington because I don’t think anybody’s life at least a current player on the Maverick’s life changed more over the course of the the big trade to the lottery than PJ Washington and so I started to think through his contract and like all right what what’s he going to get so here are some players that are kind of in his wheelhouse in his in his range i think remember he’s at around 15 right now he’s making 15 right now again like Isaac said he’s going to turn 27 so he’s right in his prime so he’s right like primed to get like a three-year fouryear type deal and like that this will be the the bulk of of the you know the deal that he gets he’s not going to get OJ Anobi money that’s the one that he signed last year five years,$ 210 million he’s making $39 million ne next year like that’s a that’s a wing that he’s just not going to get anywhere close to you mentioned Aaron Gordon four years $133 million deal recently he’s going to make $31 million next year i don’t think he’s getting anywhere close to that one either okay do you agree no yeah no yeah i agree i Yeah i don’t think he’s making over 30 so then you start getting to This is the This is the the lane that I think he might be in trey Murphy signed a four-year $112 million deal i think it was his rookie extension he’s making $25 million a year on average basically or a little bit little bit more but next year he’ll make 25 miles Bridges signed a threeyear $75 million deal making exactly$2 million each year jada McDaniels for the Timberwolves signed a 5year$136 million deal he’s making 24 million next year and then we also mentioned Kyle Kosma signed a fouryear $12 million deal I think in 2023 he’s making 23 million next year and that’s I think the range that he’s in because you start to go a little bit below that and here are the guys the wings that are kind of in that next class like below Harrison Barnes recently signed a three-year $54 million deal that’s 199 million that he’s going to make next year and then our boy Dorian Dodo Dorian Finny Smith signed a four-year $55 million deal he’s making 15 million next year like that’s what PJ’s making right now and so you see him in that Trey Murphy Miles Bridges Jaden McDaniels Kyle Kosma tier where he’s gonna make 25 million a year or Yeah I’ll add in a few more names than that deandre Hunter money and you’re looking at that 24 25 number i’m just I’m looking at guys that if I was PJ’s agent that you’re going in I mean you’re making the case for an OG type of deal right like you want like you’re going to start there good luck but but you look at those type of players like DeAndre Hunter you know he got that deal in Atlanta now he’s in Cleveland obviously but uh the Aaron Gordon deal but the Aaron Gordon’s you know a little richer for that but Cam Johnson is that around that like 23 number uh for for next year but it’s those type of guys that if you’re PJ I mean that’s a that’s a huge bump up from 15 up to 23 25 mill years so I think I’m going in realistically I’m expecting like a PJ type of an extension if it’s a um and you can see kind of two ways right if you’re PJ you can see one way of saying “Hey I want long-term I want long-term money that I know is locked in um and I don’t because I I don’t know what like my role is going to you know be and stuff so I like I want to go ahead and secure that money.” So there there you could get a four-year deal you know 115 or you know whatever it is uh total but I would expect it in that like 25 range or you could look at PJ and say if he was in a situation like imagine the the trade didn’t happen and imagine the the lottery didn’t play out like it did if I was PJ I would be saying “All right I want big time money or I’m going to sign a like a short-term extension.” Uh because I think I’m going to be so valuable i think I can prove that I’m gonna like be an Aaron Gordon type of player an OG type of player so I could see either way on that but I I’m expecting a 23 to 25 mill year type deal for him and I think that’s and I would be okay with that i would hand it to him right now if he’s willing to sign a three-year 75 just for the simplicity of it here um sign me up like I’m down i don’t care if we know if he’s starting or not i I want PJ Washington on this team you need him so I’m down to pay it yeah and and I think he’s part of the culture he’s part of the toughness of this team he’s part of what made the Mavs good in the in the playoffs and what makes them hard to to guard in the playoffs and what makes them you know switchable on defense too which I guess Gaffford’s going to or uh Cooper Flag’s gonna add to that anthony Davis is going to add to that but you need that type of swing tweener wing type and and I I know that you know this front office has has shown that they don’t really care about the fans that much but if you if you do now then if you’re talking about players that fans have a connection with right now and like feel something for and have some memories with oh this is a bold point by you no I’m just saying PJ is on that short list right like we have the standing on business and helping knock out OKC and you know just these like big mo he’s guarding the other teams you know best player a lot of time on the wing like we’ve had a couple playoff moments that helps solidify when you go on a finals run win or lose like you help solidify some some guys that is going to be getting highlight videos and standing ovations when they visit later on their career when they retire or something like these Pacer guys even if they even if they lose lose the series like every time TJ McConnell visits visits Indiana after he retires it’s standing ovation okay like he helped win them a finals game in Indiana all right so PJ had some of those moments and stuff in Dallas and I think he’s one of the few players on the team that Dallas has a or the fans have a connection with too it’s bold that you think the front office would consider that oh I thought you were saying it’s bold for like PJ take i’m like fans like him a lot no bold that the front office would would take that into consideration when I said that they’ve shown that they haven’t cared about well but hoping maybe they have not coming up how does PJ Washington’s role change now how does he fit with Cooper flag and Anthony Davis what do the Mavs need from PJ Washington more we’ll talk about that in more [Music] this episode of Locked on Maps brought to you by FanDuel is like a must-win game for them too so check out that uh they still have the Thunder favored to win the series minus 230 i mean I feel like a lot of people I feel like the Pacers are going to have to NBA please gamble responsibly shut it down let’s go home all right Isaac we’re talking about PJ Washington it’s PJ Day did you love PJ Day when you were a kid yeah that’s my like spirit week type of thing yeah spirit week you crazy hair day hat day PJ day the thing But the thing nowadays is like I feel like any you could wear PJs any day like when I was in school like we kind of had like a little bit of rules on things it it it started it started when I was in high school people would wear PJ pants to to school all the time and also PJ day you always had that one kid in the back of the class that’s like “I sleep in my underwear can I wear underwear to school?” Yeah that you you always had that one kid what an original like every generation had that kid we’re talking about PJ Washington what do the Mavs need from PJ Washington now let’s talk about the fit between him Flag and Anthony Davis we already kind of talked about I think they’re going to start like a center and Anthony Davis and Flag you can’t bring Flag off the bench there’s just I just there’s just no way so PJ probably comes off the bench to start and then he comes in and I think the center sits and then AD goes the probably the center spot and then you have the three of them what does that look like yeah I think it’s tricky i see I think um I’m pretty confident that I think PJ and Cooper Flag start together and I think just they try to do one of those two at the however you want to classify and then Clay doesn’t Yeah and Clay comes off the bench i think that’s I think that’s where I go to go because I always I hate that i feel like I always go back to this who’s going to guard the opposing point guard i mean it’s a good point who’s going to be the point of attack guy you’re not going to ask Cooper Flag to do that on day one that he steps in there he’s they’re going to get him in foul trouble so fast and that’s not the best use of Cooper Flag like one of the things that makes him so elite and special is his impact around the rim and all this stuff like you can’t say “Hey guard chase around Kyrie Irving.” Now whoever they go get right like whoever they go get to like replace Kyrie until Kyrie comes back then that could be a defensive oriented guard and stuff but like you’re not going to ask Kyrie to do it or Clay or Cooper flag you’re not going to ask a like so I think you almost have to have PJ out there to take on that point guard assignment i just can’t I for some reason I just can’t see him sitting clay do who’s guarding the point guard clay klay I guess and they just It’s a tough ask for him i I know it’s there’s there’s a lot of like Hey guys we’re playing zone every night i mean they play some type of they play some type of zone to your point just say Clay go have fun with it we have this back line behind you we we don’t care if you get torched every time we have Anthony Davis back there we also have Lively and we also have have Cooper Flag hanging out behind you like go for it get beat off the dribble we’re fine it almost be better like let him go by do the sunshine move move from remember the Titans and just be like “Hey just let him come through let let the guy come through i’ll flip him over.” Like sunshine are you suggesting Are you suggesting a team would scheme a blowby i thought you were about to say something else i was like “Oh god.” Um yeah you could scheme it yeah you It’s in the scheme sometimes yeah that that’s going to be an interesting That’s one of the like one of my big burning questions for the off for the the whole season is like first of all how does a roster shake out and then how does Jason Kid manage these minutes i started to go through it recently and it does it does feel like they’ve just got one too many guys especially up front because you start going through it and you’re like all right well if we try if we give Lively like 24 minutes or 20 minutes and then you give Gaffford like 20 minutes that get at least like three or four minutes for Anthony Davis at the five so like only spot minutes and him at the five so then Anthony Davis playing like 30 minutes at the forward spot cooper flag probably playing like 30 minutes the forward spot you just you just don’t have a lot of but that’s and I know I I know our comments light up the Gaffford hive comes out of um you know the caves and be like why do you want to trade Gaffford so much and it’s like guys in it’s because we hate it’s because we hate him personally we really don’t like him as a person it’s like he’s amazing keep Daniel Gaffford i would love to keep Daniel Gaffford would love to but if you have if you’re gonna go out and get another point guard like to help for Kyrie come back like he’s I’m just I’m 100% trading Gaffer before I am PJ that’s just not even a debate for me and I know some people try to do that like which one which one are we going to do i don’t even think it’s a conversation because of how the roster lays out because the importance of that wing spot in a guy like PJ and I get the injuries to AD people want to remind us that all the time on one like wow no way I did not know that Anthony Davis is injuryprone at times or Lively just came off an injury but still it’s like you got to have guys like PJ so that’s why when we do when you do the minute breakdown the 20 minutes marked in for Gaffford I just I just don’t see I don’t think that’s going to happen but like honestly okay you ready for this is how it break I started I really I went through did the chart you get 96 minutes per guard forward and then 48 minutes at center you play Lively 24 you play Gaffford like 19 play Anthony Davis five at center you like what you get like one shift with Anthony Davis at center what about Dwight ad plays uh Dwight is playing a great classic role off the bench okay in huddles AD plays 30 minutes at at forward so then he plays 35 minutes total cooper Plss 30 minutes at wing pj Washington plays 30 minutes at wing that’s all their minutes that leaves six minutes left in the wing total so Naji plays those minutes then you get like 18 more minutes of Naji at guard that gets him to 24 wait what about Max Christie you get So then you get Max Christie he has to play 18 if he gets about 18 minutes he plays that at all at guard because there’s no forward spots left clay gets like 20 minutes those are all at guard because there’s no forward spots left caleb Martin plays like 18 minutes at at guard because there’s that’s all that’s left and he plays like 18 minutes there then you have Brandon Williams playing 22 minutes at guard and that’s all your minutes and we haven’t added the new guard yet like it is it’s just twofold like either one of these guys is playing less than an actual rotation spot but that’s a good problem though right like you almost definitely Oh it’s a good problem especially for a team that’s going to be injuryprone right like Yeah like I’m not trying to go out and say “Dude we have so many dudes i want to combine these guy to bring in like a a big salary guy.” I’m not trying to do that like Yeah they have their their best players are at wing would you say like healthy maybe their three best players are or not with Kyrie out their three best players are at the wing right now anthony Davis PJ and Cooper Flag i mean well if you count then yeah I mean I think it’s a it’s probably a runaway at that point but I mean it’s just like you look at the wing rotation now after the trades and after all the stuff and it’s like solid like this is what you this is what you want like that is I am the most confident in that of Cooper Flag of PJ and Clay and Naji and Max Christie and and Martin it’s like dude sign me up for that like all of those dudes can play solid minutes in the playoffs i think every playoff team would love to have any of those guys it’s just now you got to find you know the the rest of the pieces there that’s why it’s like man I love a lot of these pieces on paper so how do you how do you figure that out with the guard spot who’s going to initiate offense that’s the biggest thing because none of those guys you’re throwing the ball to at the top of the at the top of the key and saying run an offense through all the time like you need creators you need those glue guys you need the um there a term called connectors you need the connectors out there the TJ McConnell’s of the world that’s going to just connect everything and keep everything going see if they had gotten Dalton in that trade from the from the Lakers like this all would have worked don’t connect us they would have had their connector connect forward i go through the rotation thing because I think it just it just shows how much of an issue this is and you also look at the teams that are playing right now you’ve got you’ve got OKC they have two centers and then they have the Jaylen Williams that that you know that comes off the bench he’s not even playing right now you get to that that finals or you get to the Western Conference finals or even the second round and like you only get to play your your two centers and hopefully they can play together and then but like look at you look at Aaron Wiggins he’s had good moments another wing that’s buried on the bench at times Isaiah Joe like they just have wing after wing you got to have that flexibility do you buy the if you trade G this is a thing I’ve seen a lot if do you buy the if you trade Gaffford it changes their identity because they want to be big No no you still have Lively Anthony Davis Cooper Flag and PJ so there’s going to be times because I think I think you can you’re going to be able to make a case that when you close games at times or on certain matchups your best lineup is going to be AD at the five Cooper at the four PJ at the three and figure you know Kyrie at the one and then who’s your defensive guy it’d be awesome like Max Christie could could you know go and you know build into that type of defensive guy or whoever it is um I think that’s going to be some of their be their best like go-to lineup in these clutch moments but it’s also matchup dependent too so if they could trade Naji for a guard and a good enough guard then like then they keep both of them and I think that it can I think it could still work out yeah you could obviously they could do that yeah I just once again P Gafford’s also in the same position as PJ to where you got to figure out over the next six months eight months what what you’re going to pay him on an extension so what if they traded Caleb Martin for a guard that could get his own shot that’s also a pretty good defender that’s young and still had some upside and maybe they got a second round pick as well in that in that trade like what if they did that the more I think about it there was this guy that played at Houston like right down the road right down the road yeah you um Quinton Grimes but I don’t know if he’s like a I’m not going to lie i’m still mad about the Quinton Grimes trade i’m not losing that much sleep over it i know but I’m going to be right about it i mean it it is what I He would overshadow the Luca thing right now for me all right oh come on obviously but all right that’s I’m a believer in Martin though like I think I think Martin has the size and also like that contract and stuff too like are you great quinton Grimes had a good end of the season so like are you signing up to pay Quinton Grimes like 16 17 million a year i don’t know maybe he’s the guard that can play without Kyrie and with him like would you be I’d feel so much better about the guard rotation if he was on it start Quinton Grimes he would i don’t know how comfortable I’d feel saying you’re the point guard i I think this offense is going to be has to be so much different than what we’ve seen in the past they cannot do the Luca Kai rerun the offense everything runs through them everybody else get the hell out of the way you just you can’t do that anymore so I think they’ve got to change that and I think that you you could run that thanks for hanging out with us on locked on abs we’ve got more flag day watch out for Flag Day we’ve got something coming for that as well and so check out wherever you’re listening watching this guys thanks so much for listening to Locked on Mavs peace out boom it’s great it’s 1. If they plan on using Flagg at 2 & 3 like Kidd mentioned then PJ is still going to play minutes at the 3-4. Yall making this out to be an issue especially since Naz Reid & Alex Caruso play heavy minutes off the bench without any issues

  2. For me pj can go both lakers games he play like a bum pretty much quite on the team . Pj don't let the door hit u

  3. Don’t quote me, but I remember hearing from somewhere that due to the extension PJ received w/ the hornets, he’s only eligible for a certain amount of money. I think he’s max eligible for a 4 year contract at an AAV of 22.5.

  4. Keep PJ, trade Gafford for another pick late 1st round and get a point guard, sign Kai Jones to a regular contract.

  5. PJ is a must keep, its harder to find a verstile 4 who can shoot and be a POA defender, than a rim running shot blocking big. I don't want to get rid of Gaff but the Mavs must stay under the second apron. I think 4 year 22 APY + player option is a fair deal for PJ, I doubt he gets more than that on the market. He wasnt always a full time starter with Charlotte, pay him and guarantee him 30 min per game. He doesnt need to start, the Mavs main line up will be, whatever PG, Klay, Flagg, PJ, and AD.

  6. Good thing these guys are not GMs. 25 million for pj Washington is insane. He had 0 points in the elimination game and turns it over almost every time he dribbles and he's likely coming off the bench. He needs to be traded
