NBA TODAY | ESPN latest on BLOCKBUSTER Kevin Durant Trade after Suns hire Jordan Ott as new HC

conference Shams what is the latest out of Phoenix liga sources tell me the Phoenix sons are hiring Clean Cavaliers assistant Jordan as a franchise’s next head coach that will be their fourth coach in the last four seasons and he beats out fellow Cav’s assistant Johnny Bryant for this first head coaching job for him after being an assistant since 2012 and son’s leadership agreed on after interviewing over 15 candidates for the job and obviously and Johnny Bryant worked under coach of the year Kenny Atkinson this past season the most interesting part though is really over the last 7 to 10 days Devin Booker the Suns franchise cornerstone was involved late in this process for the H and I’m told Jordan was his top choice as well we know Devin Booker has had a ton of coaches over his 11 seasons in the NBA eight coaches to be exact he’s on now and that partnership will be critical to the son’s future between Devin Booker and Jordan interesting so as interesting to me as it is that Devin Booker was involved in choosing the next coach for the Phoenix Suns it’s equally as fascinating the name that you didn’t mention Kevin Durant what is this signal for his future mil conversations will now begin to pick up on a potential trade of Kevin Durant out of Phoenix over the next two to three weeks conversations will begin to heat up i’m told the Sons will work with Durant and his business partner Rich Clim on a trade home there’s expected to be a robust market for him 4 to 16 seriously interested in Durant potentially ahead of the NBA draft but between now and that NBA draft later this month in June there’s going to be serious conversations about moving Kevin Durant and still one of the great players in the NBA right now an all NBA caliber player still at the prime stages really of his of his play in terms of as a score so we’ll see where Kevin Durant ends up this offseason ok so in between now and the NBA draft certainly something that we’re going to be keeping an eye on and I agree with you is we have all these conversations shams about who is a superstar in the league kevin Durant firmly solidified and still is one of those superstars i want to bring it back here to set though for just a second we’re going to go back to you Shams in just a minute perk hearing all of this your reaction phoenix has hired a new coach and it’s Devin Booker here we are again y’all everybody going right defending Suns going left here we are again and I don’t care if Devin Booker was had anything to do with the hing of the coach damn it they need to blow it up not only trading Katy but trading Devin Booker and this is going to tell me a lot about Devin Booker here’s why he has been activated you know why because he’s 28 going on 29 so that means you what he’s just starting his prime his prime has been activated this team is not going nowhere this team ain’t going nowhere no they’re not even going to be a top six seed in in the West i don’t care who they trade for right now right now and I’m just going off right [Tiếng cười] now lakers Nuggets OKC OKC Minnesota that’s five hilston that’s six and we could really keep going so Devin Booker I don’t want to ever get to the point why I look at him and call him a loser but if he come in a if he comes to to a place where he’s okay with being there and not leveling up to go to organization you actually could compete for a championship and you ready to just stay there basically for another rebuild i got a problem with that waa I need you to clarify devin Booker and and loser is what I did not I did not call I said I don’t want to go there but I said if you look at the direction that this organization is going in well maybe losing benefits them by picking a direction right but like to me I differ from you and that Devin Booker you said he’s 28 going on 29 who’s still dropping 28 going on 29 like he’s someone that no matter what happens is like a cornerstone that you can sort of build off of my issue is that like it’s the pick a direction you are no longer in the middle right now like you either are pursuing championships which we found that they are not going to be in that class of especially with Katie leaving and they’re restructuring or you’re going to actual restructure and rebuild but they don’t control their picks we have to remember they do not control their picks yeah 32 and and one thing and I get what you saying Perk because it’s so easy in this league to come in and just to fall into that that trap of playing 82 games and not winning the championship and going into your summon before you know it five seasons have gone by you’ve done nothing but Devin Booker has taken the first step getting involved in the coaching search secondly it doesn’t matter who coach that team until you figure out what you’re going to do with your players chemistry you look at all those coaches that came before those guys those coaches are guys that have won in other situations why aren’t they winning in Phoenix are we going to keep saying this to coaches or we going to keep saying that you’re not putting the right guys in a locker room and that’s why I go to are you going to put the right guys in the locker room because one thing about the NBA now today it’s so easy to go out and say the coach ain’t doing this the coach ain’t doing that are you putting the right pieces around to really compete for a championship first and foremost I don’t think Phoenix had the right pieces to really say that we’re going to compete for a championship this year and that’s because the game has changed when you think about like the big threes trying to win right like that was a microwave version of trying to find success the slow cooker we’re watching in NBA finals where we see a slow cooker and that is probably the most beneficial there’s two teams that really are showcasing what can happen if you just stick with it and wait sort of for the long route which is what James Dolan said that he wanted to do with the New York Nicks which is why yesterday’s move was so was so fascinating so let’s shift back to New York a move that stunned the league the Nick fired head coach Tom Tibet less than two weeks after leading New York to its first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 25 years i want to bring Shams back in here how are the Nick Shams approaching the search for their next head coach and and what direction do they want to take to move this team forward mik I’m told Nick’s president Leon Rose is still going to take several days here to start that head coaching process i expected to be a methodical one and several candidates potentially in the next few days that Leon Rose and that Nick’s front office will turn to but you think about the qualities that the Nicks have laid out in their release they talked about the singular focus on winning a championship and ascending to the next level i’m told that the belief within Nick was they simply had reached a ceiling under Tom Thbito that they felt he exhausted the most he could out of this team and they want a championship caliber upgrade now and so you think about coaches with title pedigree you think about coaches that are adaptable that are flexible as a head coach and so what coach out there has all those qualities as far as having championship experience the adaptability as head coach that they just felt they did not have with Tom Thbito so we’ll know more in the coming days and weeks ok so we’ll check in with you as we continue to know more on this but I can’t tell you Shams as you were talking as you were reporting on everything that’s going around New York you had UD and Perk over here throwing up their hands a whole lot and a little bit of confusion as to what is going on in New York City but let’s get back to the NBA finals shall we stay at UD yeah I I agree with him 1000% and this is what I talked about last week what Rick Carl does is and if anybody knows baseball cuz he us the baseball analogy a fast ball can look like a changer and you don’t know it until you get ready to swing and fall over the plate because it didn’t come 99 this time it came 76 and that’s what they do offensively when you look at the Indiana Pacers they w pace and space but a lot of their lineups look the same and they’re very difficult to guard yeah and I love that they’re giving respect to their opponents because all season long we’ve been talking about how the Thunder are the greatest defensive team and now the Pacers they have the third best offensive rating in the play by play era in NBA history this is one of the best offenses that we are witnessing before our eyes in real time and so they’re respecting what is real and what I love about this situation here is you see the opportunities for people to scheme and tinker i know Homegrim will be a factor but overall I like the mindset they’re not playing around it’s just so easy when you see I’m sure you the ESPN is on and all these TVs rocking walking around the arena and you look up and you see something like the Thunder have a 76 chance of percent to win percent chance to win the NBA finals and if you’re Indiana even if you’re OKC trying to put on those blinders perk and tune out that noise in order to reach that next level when you’re four wins away it’s so easy to say you know what we’re here we got here and let go of the rope a little bit but why would you want to put on the blonders you know what I mean like if you’re the pacers I actually want to see this i want this to motivate me i want to see I want to see everybody count me out pascal said it in one of his interviews after the game in the uh conference finals he said “We’ve been the underdog in every series.” Here we are again you’re the underdog in the finals everyone is calling you out including me so take a video take take the clip of me saying that I got OKC winning in six that I don’t believe that the pa me wrong again right because this has been one of the most improbable runs seen to the NBA finals let’s just take a look back at how exactly the Indiana Pacers got here because it’s pretty remarkable when you look at their season ch I would describe it as a roller coaster i don’t know about you they they only went 16 and 18 in their first 34 games of the season and they headed into 2025 as the E seed yeah and then they turned it they flipped the switch because if you think about it what they were able to do was really sync up offensively i mean Pascal Siak with every game with every month has blossom to someone we’ve seen as the Eastern Conce Finals MVP everyone they’ve got shooters everywhere mal you got Ty Hberton not even being selected as a 2025 allstar and he spoke about his struggle saying I got caught up in the outside noise i allowed myself to think negative thoughts about myself internally and it was the first time in my life I’ve had real self-d vulnerable thing to say to admit uh to tell the athletic he said “I feel like my personal struggles were leading to team struggles.” But then UD once the calendar turned to 2025 things also turned around for Hallton and the Pacers they finished the regular season 34 and 14 since January 1st that’s the fourth best record in the NBA yes and I love how vulnerable he was and I think when you talk about that part of it a lot of times we don’t get into what our personal struggles do to our team and I think the fact that he was able to identify what his personal struggles did for that team I think is no coincidence that only he’s playing better but as a unit they’re playing better collectively and that brings us to the playoffs right where HBT carried that momentum first you game 5 game winner against the Bucks in round one and then you got the step back against the Cavs in game two of round two and then of course the kind of bounce in the garden getting to see the ball drop in the Eastern Conference finals to first overtime and when the dust finally settled perk Indiana back in the NBA finals for the first time since Regie’s Pacers did it 25 years ago so this really is a season to remember even if it had twists and turns for Tyrberton who spoke just moments ago at Media Day i’m excited to be here um obviously the finals is a a very special thing and some I’ve wanted to be a part of you know my whole my whole life and so to be here means the world and I’m just you know taking it all in soaking it all in and uh really excited you know for this moment uh as far as yesterday we took off um and I slept the whole the whole plane ride which I don’t normally do and we landed and I was ready to get up and they said we were in Tulsa we sat there for another like hour then we took off again and fell we were in the air again for like hour and a half we didn’t land here until time we land like 7 which normally would be like 8 back home so it’s like a 5h travel day we might as well just travel to Portland or something uh but yeah was a long travel day but what can you do you can’t none of us can control the weather uh there’s worse problems in life we’ll be fine so somehow in case you missed it the pacers were diverted because of thunderstorms in the area and a tornado warning in the area but they got here they got a good night sleep and now they are getting set for this game one of the NBA finals i was going to ask you Chine what the Pacers have proven by getting this far but I have a feeling if I pose that question in the locker room they would say “We haven’t proven anything we’ve only proven that we’re four away.” And that’s the right mindset i mean talking about weather they have captured lightning in a bottle and it is a beautiful thing this Pacer squad it shows you that if you have chemistry synergy you have an amazing coach you can win and you have a shot and I love that Ty Hberton is a selfish type of guy first of all he’s tired on that flight because he’s like you know let me hibernate i know this defense is going to come at me but what you see from their squad is a selfless nature because that’s his game he is a guy that’s leading the postseason and assist per game you guys and so you look at how he approaches it with vulnerability guess what on the other side of that is accomplishment and he’s showing them he’s what is it uh leading by ex and as much as he’s smiling on that podium right now just understand these guys understand the situation they understand the assignment not a chip they have a boulder on their shoulder i was set I was passing by a lot of those guys and they’re sitting there saying we love this underdog ring underdog and like Perk said don’t quiet the noise listen to it and I used to tell all my guys if you just pay attention to all the interviews and all the media they’ll tell you exactly how they feel about you they’ll tell you exactly how they feel about you don’t you don’t have to read between the lines they’ll be honest how they feel about you take that and use it i feel like this the NBA finals of the Unknowns right like cuz it’s so many matchups and I’m trying to figure it out right you you got OKC went and in in the series in a regular season but Chet didn’t play right and then Pascal has been a problem and I’m one uh coach Diagn is going to make adjustment and switch up starting lineup and start chat at the five so he could Alex Caruso to the starting lineup i’m wondering what the paces are going to do who they going to put on SGA who’s going to be going like it’s all these but that’s what makes it fun right and this is why these teams are here because none of the other teams that they beat could figure them out right right so now we now you’re you’re to with the best of the best iron Sharpen who’s going to figure who out first that’s why I got so much hope and belief in the uh Oklahoma City Thunder because of their defense and I figured they only take a quarter and I can tell you sitting here don’t listen to anything that says that oh well the small market series this and that this feels the electricity since we have touched down in OKC has been huge teams are locked in pun intend mũi tiếp theo tiếp nha 2. WTF is up with this sewing class Really not interested in watching half of the video and then a lady teaching us how to knit or so whatever the fuck she’s doing

  3. Booker is just a stats guy. He is not a Superstar that will carry a team to a Championship. He is an accessory piece that should leave Phoenix and be content being a 2nd option.

  4. Kendrick not everyone wants to ring chase. He loves Phoenix and there's nothing wrong with him loving his town. Phoenix is his

  5. Suns "Wet Dream Team", Suns should hire Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris and Russel Westbrook to accompany Bradley Beal.

  6. Poke Mr. Perkins, if a man decided to chase the rain you’ll get mad at her about that if a man decide to stay on a team that ain’t going nowhere as far as championship is concerned you will go out at that man you are a wishy-washy kind of a dudeget a brain get a brain
