[Music] it is no secret that the boston celtics are looking to make moves this off seasonason to shed salary off of their books and on today’s edition of celtics today by chat sports we’re going to discuss the latest celtics trade report from this man right here sham shirania over at espn as some new names might be on the block for your c’s before we get into his big quote i got to make sure we manifest the good vibes for the offseason if you want brad stevens to make the right moves because moves are coming go down below and hit that thumbs up icon we should have everybody who watches this video today liking the video because we all want brad stevens to make the right decisions this summer all right let’s get into this sham shirania quote when he went on the pat mcafee show and said that the primary focus from my understanding with the celtics offseason has been drew holiday chris porzingis sam hower their trademarks that’s no you know new information to us but here is the kicker he said “now are teams making big offers and calling about jaylen brown and derek white?” 100% the celtics prefer not to trade them from my understanding but listen if they get a big offer they have to look at everything my instant reaction to this is kind of like whoa this is the first real report this off season about a jaylen brown you know potential trade or a derek white potential trade it seemed like from every quote that we’ve heard and look brad stevens and anybody talking uh from the celtics you know mouthpiece isn’t going to say “yeah we’re looking to trade jaylen brown or derrick white.” but this is kind of interesting that this is coming out here as we’re less than two weeks away from the 2025 nba draft i mean who knows things could get absolutely wild here more from shams he said “and i think that they’re going to get offers on the three guys that they’re focused on but they’re also going to get offers potentially on derek white and jaylen brown and i think between now and the draft and free agency they’re going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective and that’s where they’re going to move if i’m confident in one thing brad stevens is going to do what makes sense for this basketball team time after time after time he has put the seeds in the best position to win he traded away a franchise pillar a heart and soul of this celtics team and marcus smart to make the basketball team better and it resulted in a championship so i have full faith in brad stevens to make the right decisions and this shams report that we got you know on the from the mcafee show feels eerily similar to a report that we talked about a couple weeks ago here on celtics today from our guy per sources who i have followed for a long time as an nba insider and really a celtics insider as well who he noted a source saying that the celtics yeah their goal is to get under the second apron but it’s really also potentially to get under the luxury tax entirely and that could mean a jaylen brown trade is coming so if you want to take a look at this report it’s on his twitter at per sources he’s you know also made a couple other tweets about the celtics exploring a jaylen brown trade also threw in that al horford is likely departing and that makes me very very sad but look man what’s going on in boston if i know anything about the celtics front office and their history and making you know different transactions it’s that a lot of things are kept under wraps like when derek white got moved to boston that wasn’t a name that was being floated around too frequently in honestly a trade that kind of went under the radar um at that trade deadline back in 2022 so like brad is is one of the smartest basketball minds that i know if he thinks that a deal for a guy like a derek white or a guy like a jer jaylen brown makes sense for boston then you know what maybe he’ll just go out there and pull the trigger but to be honest with you i i don’t really see much of a scenario where derek white you know gets traded and the celtics see better value coming back to them you know than sending derek white away like he has been so invaluable to multiple finals runs at this point he helped the celtics get over the hump back in 2022 when they made that finals run and obviously he was an integral part to the 2024 title run and he has gotten better every single season he’s a 16 17 point per game guy and when boston has a jaylen brown or a jason tatum sitting out or you know a drew holiday porzingis he was able to step in there and contribute 20 to 25 points any given night when he got the opportunity so derek white as far as being a two-way player goes and on the money that he’s getting it just seems like it would be idiotic for me to trade derek white like he is getting paid pennies when it comes to what his production is for boston less than 30 million next year this is a 4-year $118 million contract and with him being 30 years old a player who doesn’t really have to rely on too much of athleticism i feel like boston would want him to be a part of the next contender that they build centered around jason tatum and who knows maybe jaylen brown as well i i feel like it would be silly to trade derek white and a package that you would have to get back for him for me personally would have to be something in the realm of like that muel bridges package that the knicks sent away to the brooklyn nets last offseason like if you’re trading derrick white it signals to me that this is going to be a rebuild not a retool not a reboot like derrick white’s a core foundational piece on a good contract that you do not you know send away if you’re trading d white i’m looking for a hall of future draft picks and what brad stevens’s you know kind of mission would be at that point would be rebuilding and looking towards the long long-term future of the boston celtics and i don’t really think that they’re in that position right now so what do you guys think is derek white untouchable in trades to me he feels like after tatum the most untouchable celtic but you let me know what you think in the comments section yes or no would you be open to trading derrick white for the right package or not let’s move on to jaylen brown here who i feel like is a little bit more of a realistic trade candidate for boston however the market for jb i’m not so sure can be that big at this point with the money that he makes and then the news that we got yesterday about jaylen brown undergoing knee surgery to repair the partially torn meniscus that he played through in the playoffs so is his market all that big i’m not so sure especially when you consider how big his contract is uh i mean $60 million player isn’t exactly you know you’re not able to pay multiple guys $60 million on the roster that’s the problem the celtics are facing at this point so it’s going to not it’s going to be pretty difficult to move off of a jb deal but look this is a finals mvp one of the best two-way talents in the league a top 20 player in the nba so yeah there’s absolutely going to be massive value around his name but how many teams are really going to be in the market for a jaylen brown trade like if you’re trading for jaylen brown like what that signals to me if you make a jaylen brown trade is you’re making him your best player or at least he’s your highest paid player and how many teams in the nba really want to make that you know kind of the focal point of their organization jaylen brown has never been a number one option in his career he’s primed to do that next season with the absence of jason tatum but he’s never had that opportunity and how much faith are teams around the league willing to put into that when they haven’t seen it in his entire nba career so far however um chris manx of sports illustrated did link the spurs to a jaylen brown trade and i thought that was pretty interesting considering that they’re kind of in the giannis and kevin durant sweep stakes at this point giannis trade rumors are kind of cooling down but the kd trade rumors are only heating up and the spurs seem like the most likely destination that durant ends up in so that would kind of take them out of a running of a jaylen brown trade but who knows if it falls through and kd goes elsewhere maybe they revisit this and you know make a call to the celtics and end up you know maybe mortgaging a stfan castle or the number two overall pick i would honestly you know at least entertain those phone calls if i’m brad stevens in the celtics we’ll three right here or you know any anybody that we’ve talked about cannot be sent away in a trade so you’re going to have to make a holiday trade solo you’re going to have to make a porzingis trade solo and then maybe even after that you got to make a hower trade to get under that second apron so this is the most likely outcome but it is going to take a lot of maneuvering and a lot of negotiating between brad and probably three four five teams around the league because these deals could end up being multi-team as well make sure you get hooked up with a player that i don’t think is getting together but chris maddox said this after he linked the spurs to this k jaylen brown trade he came out with this quote today and said that porzingis i think is available but i think that they would like to get porzingis back longterm or at a lower price on his next deal and that’s entirely possible because of the way that chris has porzingis tanked his value um playing on the basketball court facing that mystery illness in march and into the postseason but is it worth it to bring porzingis back he is on a expiring contract $30.7 million and that’s going to have some value around the nba as the money is going to come off the books after next season but when i’ve been kind of mulling over whether or not to trade porzingis like the celtics probably don’t want to make or take on too many more long-term deals if they’re sending porzingis away like they’d be looking to move off of money not you know trying to necessarily get a monster value back as far as immediate players who can get on the court um so i don’t really see um porzingis staying longterm but i i think it’s possible if he’s willing to take a smaller deal um i i just don’t know what player you’re going to get at this point in his career is this illness kind of be in the rearview mirror is it going to creep back up and is he going to be healthy physically as well as that’s been a concern for his entire career as well so i i like kp a lot when he’s been out there on the floor for boston healthy he has been awesome and it might be difficult to trade him if you’re going to have to attach a first round pick or something like that this offseason so who knows he could be back for the long term i would like to see it but who knows if that’s all that realistic what do you guys think what to do with chris dabs
