Worst Case Scenario for Charlotte Hornets Draft | The Drive with Josh Graham
we are a week away from the 2025 NBA draft and while there seems to be disagreement about which player would represent the best case scenario for Charlotte with the number four pick it’s becoming clearer and clear that Rutgers guard Ace Bailey is the worstc case scenario at four there is no prospect in this draft slated to be taken near the top who has soured more amongst scouts among experts on the draft than Ace Bailey has don’t forget on lottery night Hornet fans were getting upset at the fact they got the number four pick not just because they didn’t get the number one pick with the chance to take Cooper Flag they were saying “Of course we only get of course we get the fourth pick in a threeplayer draft.” That’s what a lot of Hornet fans said saying that the top group was Cooper then some distance then Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey and Charlotte wasn’t going to get Ace Bailey they weren’t going to have the opportunity to take him and maybe they won’t maybe Philadelphia still takes him with the third pick but when you look at places that pay a lot of attention to the draft that pour a lot of resources into the draft the Ringer has a long list of draft rankings jake Kyle man did that the Athletic Sam Vicini’s been doing this for a very long time ace Bailey is not in the top four of either of their rankings sixth on Sam Facini’s ranking fifth by the ringer espn hasn’t done a true mock draft in a little while and frankly he doesn’t make sense given the Hornets current pieces who are the top two pieces on the Charlotte Hornets right now let me ask Will Dalton our show’s resident Hornet fan brandon Miller LaMelo Ball here’s what’s interesting about Ace Bailey ace Bailey has Brandon Miller’s build 6’7 this guy plays guard you could put him out there a little bit of length he’s got Brandon Miller’s build but he doesn’t have Brandon Miller shot a lot worse shooter four or five% worse in college versus Brandon Miller’s year at Alabama and what we saw from Mace Bailey he’s got LaMelo Ball’s shot selection he’s got LaMelo Ball’s maturity level these are not compliments to Ace Bailey do you know what he doesn’t have of LaMelo’s law lamelo’s though lamelo’s handle he doesn’t have that the handle is a big concern by NBA teams it’s hard to imagine Charlotte keeping LaMelo and Miller then adding Ace Bailey to that mix having that be your back court you plan to roll with moving on if they take Ace Bailey odds are they’re probably moving off LaMelo Ball because you’re not moving off of Brandon Miller and LaMelo Ball is a better version of Ace Bailey it would seem like and you’ve already committed to him long term ace Bailey didn’t interview well his height two and a half inches shorter at the combine than what he was listed at at Ruters listen people always fudge the numbers of how tall they actually are but usually it’s not a 2 and 1/2 inch difference if it’s a 2 and 1/2 inch difference you have the right to be upset you’re trying to deceive somebody if you’re on Tinder and you’re a woman and you show up to a date with a guy who says he’s six foot and he shows up and he’s 5’9 you have the right to be upset with that person you said you were 6 foot you’re 5’9 ace Bailey listed at 610 67 and a half at the combine so there are red flags here so that is the worst case there seem to be similarly talented prospects who fit better for Charlotte when you’re picking fourth and you’re the Hornets who don’t have any pedigree of winning you shouldn’t be picking by fit you shouldn’t be unless there are a lot of guys who are pretty close to each other like for example if Cooper Flag was available to Charlotte at what at their pick wherever they were picking you don’t care about the fit we’re taking Cooper Flag you take the best player if you add the two pick you’re not thinking about oh how’s Dylan Harper fit in with Brandon Miller or LaMelo Ball no you take Dylan Harper but those are the only two guys like that in this draft where it’s so obvious where this guy needs to be slated where this guy needs to be taken the next group it’s closely compacted it’s not consensus but most people seem to agree that Ace Bailey is in the group but now towards the bottom of Conanipple at Duke Trey Johnson at Texas and VJ Edgecom at Baylor those three this is when you talk about fit when you’re trying to separate between four players that are close and given how good of a contested shooter Trey Johnson is and Khan Canipple how steady he was on a very good team at Duke and how he fit in along stars that were on that roster and Balor’s VJ Edgecom who probably has the highest floor of the three defense defensive ability probably the best pure fit of any of the three players any of those three players you should be okay with Charlotte Di if it’s Ace Bailey there are some real questions that need to be asked if it’s anybody else oh boy you could probably be very upset but it seems over the span of a month Ace Bailey’s turned from perhaps the best case scenario when first looking at the board and first knowing your pick to maybe the worst case scenario for Garlic
With the NBA Draft less than two weeks away, Josh breaks down what would be the worst case scenario for the Charlotte Hornets at the no. 4 pick.
