Perk calls the Knicks’ coaching search a disaster 👀 ‘malpractice at its finest!’ 🗣️ | SportsCenter

to the NBA where the Knicks are still chasing that elusive finals appearance but first they’ve got to find their head coach most recently they were able to slate some discussions with a couple of candidates former Kings coach Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins who most recently coached in Memphis according to Sham Shirania this marks the first set of formal interviews since New York fired Tibs last week so let’s bring Perk back into the discussion here on Sports Center we saw more about who the Knicks weren’t going to be interviewing than anything over the past few days man what do you make of the process thus far to fill that head coaching vacancy uh a dis a disaster malpractice at his finest here’s the thing right if you’re going to fire a coach of Tom Tibido status a a coach that helped you make this franchise relevant again one of the you know elite coaches in the game then you have to replace him with a championship level coach and you should have had a plan in place they didn’t you know we’re sitting up here watching the Knicks search around the NBA and try to visit with other people coaches like what type of stuff is that so you’re looking at it right now and we we were we’ve been praising the Knicks for you know making them making them uh you know the way that they’ve go about going about doing things and being relevant again they took five steps forwards and 10 steps backwards with this move because there’s no other coach out there in my opinion besides Michael Malone that’s available that could step in and fulfill this role what they’re trying to do and that’s ultimately bring a championship back to New York now they did mention that Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins will be interviewing with him over the course of this year which of those two candid candidates do you believe will fill that void in a better sense well I like what Taylor Jenkins did with the Grizzlies but he’s not the answer if I had to go with somebody it would be Mike Brown right mike Brown has a lot of experience you talk about won a few championships as an assistant coach we saw what he did with the Sacramento Kings winning coach of the year a few years ago he shouldn’t have got fired from that job he’s great with personality so and he can handle it right he can handle everything that comes with being the head coach of New York the media right the different personalities that’s in the locker room and I believe that if they do keep Carl Anthony Towns depending on you know if they try to go get a Kevin Durant or Jiannis out that he could bring the best out of Carl Anthony Towns on both ends of the floor i actually like Mike Brown because he is the best available outside of Michael Malone well Mike Brown was certainly one of the impressive candidates in their eyes back in 2020 before they went with Tibs in that instance perk we appreciate it we’ll try to figure it all out as they do as well take care man appreciate you [Music] [Applause] give me [Music] a feeling

Kendrick Perkins joins SportsCenter to discuss the New York Knicks’ search for a head coach and react to the teams plan to meet with Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins next week.

  1. I like Mike Brown, Jackson, Mike Brown but I don't think players will like him as much as Jackson, because Brown you know, Brown is going get some players trader, Jackson this roster will embrace

  2. Man all we need is Mike Brown and James Harden, same squad . We need James to beat Philly, Celtics, Miami, teams gonna turn up this year

  3. Who says that after a team fires a coach, they must have the next coach on speed dial?
The media's hate for the Knicks is too evident. Their front office is doing their due diligence.
    Their inquiries don't harm anyone.
The Knicks head coaching position is the only one available. They should exhaust all possibilities before settling on a new head coach.

  4. Nobody coming to the Knicks because we don't have a identity anymore, Thibs was the identity of this team and we played his style of basketball, we grind, we fight, we don't give up.

  5. Stop talking about the Knicks. We gone be aight.
The Knicks are the only coaching vacancy in the entire NBA. We have the pick of the litter.
The 2024-25 season isn't even over yet, so why rush to interview 4 coaches when we can take our time and interview 14.

  6. Hot take is Brunson wouldn’t have ascended like he did without Thibs riding him and pushing the most of out of him.

  7. lol this is such an exaggeration. I think the Knicks are just trying to be thorough. I’m sure they have an idea as to who they want.

  8. People laughed at me when I said this was a mistake. Now if the Knicks end up like the Suns, Bucks and worst of all, Sixers then they'll know that the grass isn't always greener

  9. You have to learn how to cook Fried potatoes with corn beef and macaroni and cheese for your children. No snacks

  10. This might be the dumbest media cycle in sports history. You don't hire someone for such an important position the day after you fire the coach, especially as the only franchise in the NBA with a vacancy.

  11. We know perk you big mad we beat Boston you’re comments don’t matter who you will go for we don’t care
