Knicks Make MASSIVE TRADE Decision! Leon Rose’s MASTER PLAN Revealed | Knicks News

[Music] this is massive According to the latest reports Kevin Durant would have chosen the Knicks as a team he would like to be traded to However New York decided they did not want to trade or pursue Rose has a master plan For weeks now the Knicks have been linked to Kevin Durant in a potential trade However in the last few days multiple Knicks insiders shut down the Knicks actually trading for Kevin Durant And for me that was a little confusing because we all remember during the trade deadline the Knicks actually tried to trade for Kevin Durant So clearly the interest is there However according to the latest reports we finally have a reason why the Knicks are not trying to trade for KD And we have to thank NBA insider Mark Stein for giving us this following information here Shout out to New York basketball and Mark Stein on the app X for giving us all of this information here According to them Kevin Durant’s list of preferred teams to get traded to would have included the Knicks except the New York Knicks made it clear that it’s decided against pursuing a trade for KD This is huge New York was the one to make the decision here It wasn’t Kevin Durant If it was up to KD the Knicks would be listed there and potentially he might have been traded to New York We all saw those potential trade packages three team deals four team deals So clearly if New York wanted to get a trade done for Durant they probably could have done so But according to Mark Stein they chose against trading for KD And that is music to my ears We do not need to gut this roster for Kevin Durant 37 years old still has to be paid Likely have to gut your team to get him And once you do how many years does he have left in the NBA playing at this level a top tier level a level that can actually help a team win a championship Let that sink in Is it two years three years at max Because if it’s only three years you’re not making that deal You’re not making that trade It doesn’t make sense And I am so happy that Leon Rose and this Knicks fun office thought better about this trade and have decided against it But now that opens up a whole new realm of possibilities If it’s not KD that the Knicks are looking to trade for to help improve this roster then what other superstar could potentially be available that New York will look to trade for That is going to be the main question headed into the off season But speaking about the off season there seems to be a little confusion When can some teams make trades When can trades be announced When can New York start signing free agents Well thankfully I’m going to go ahead and break down all of those things for you today Shout out to Keith Smith with NBA.com for giving us this following information here According to him since there seems to be some confusion let’s clarify a few points here NBA teams can make trades in their current league year as soon as their season ends provided they are legal and pending free agents aren’t being traded Some trades have to wait to go official until the new league year but can be agreed to now Teams can negotiate with their own free agents one day after the finals end And all other free agent negotiations open at 6:00 p.m Eastern time on June 30th So if you were wondering when are the Knicks likely going to make some free agency moves in the off seasonason it’s going to be on June 30th because clearly that is the day that you can start conversing with different free agents and signing them to your team And New York will be active heavily active this off season trying to improve the roster the bench and potentially making that superstar trade But we’re always talking about improving the roster In order to do that you need money You need cap room But a lot of people don’t understand what the Knicks cap situation is Let’s go ahead and break down exactly how much money the Knicks have right now and how much under the second apron they are Shout out to NBA insider with ESPN Bobby Marks for giving us this following information here As you can see this is the New York Knicks 2025 offseason roster The starting five Jaylen Brunson Muel Bridges Josh OG and Obi Carl Anthony Towns Likely all of them return However if a superstar trade is going to happen it’s likely Carl Anthony Towns will need to be involved Regarding reserves we have Deuce McBride and Tyler Koh Then we have Pakcom Dier PJ Tucker Mitchell Robinson and Ariel Huckport And that right there what we’re all waiting to see the salary The Knicks are currently at 200 million So obviously they’re over the tax threshold of 187.8 million The first apron is 195.9 million and they are over it But the second apron 207.8 million They are underneath that Very important to understand They also have the following exceptions A tax mid-level exception of 5.7 million second round exception and a veterans minimum as well too They also have the 50th pick in this year’s draft And the following players are currently free agents Precious Aua Cameron Payne Dylon Wright Landry Shamut Ariel Huckport Anton Watson Kevin McCuller Jr Marjan Bochamp and PJ Tucker And out of all of those players I can guarantee you that Landry Shamut Ariel Huckporty Kevin McCuller Jr They’re all likely to return Everybody else on that list is uncertain When you take a look at how much salary the Knicks have to work with you completely understand One of the main ways New York can upgrade this team is by making a trade Another way to upgrade this team is by elevating the bench We don’t have that much money guys We are this close to the second apron We’re going to have to make a lot of moves this off seasonason to make sure our bench is better and to make sure we’re utilizing our bench and starters a lot better than we did last year Now obviously that’s going to have to do with coaching but part of it is going to have to do with personnel We have to sign the right players and one thing New York can do is make sure we elevate the rookies That means Ariel Huffport has an elevated role next year Pakcom Dier same exact thing Maybe Tyler Koh as well maybe Kevin McCull Jr but utilize the rookies because they’re low cost and great options Already have chemistry with this team as well too Now that doesn’t mean you don’t go out there and add great free agents You still do that but you are limited with the amount of money you can give those free agents And that brings me back to the entire point of this video Leon Rose and his master plan Everybody sees what I’m seeing right here 200 million New York in order to really improve this roster needs to make a trade And given all the things we just reported the fact that New York is not pursuing or even targeting Kevin Durant it tells you they are holding all of their assets to go after one player Now in my heart in my mind I want that player to be Giannis But I know I see you guys typing out the comments already You can stop Giannis said he wants to stay in Milwaukee A number of NBA insiders have already confirmed that So fine No Giannis maybe Even though Leon Rose has the ability to make the impossible possible but let’s just say Giannis is not on the table anymore That means New York can go out there and look at other stars Maybe not superstars but still stars And if they’re stars that means the cost to get them may not be as high That means we keep the core together still add the players that we need and become a better team for next season But I don’t think any of these things are going to happen until the Knicks hire a head coach first So number one find the new voice to lead this team into the future Number two find out the free agents you want to sign by June 30th And number three figure out what blockbuster trade you’re looking to make to improve this team because not going after KD is a very strong sign that New York is not done yet In fact they haven’t even got it started yet The trade they’re going to make could be a move nobody is expecting And I’m not going to see it You’re not going to see it Nobody’s going to see it coming Only Leon Rose and this Knicks front office every single time That’s how they’ve operated So
